Doogie's is a blast from the past joint, with quick and friendly service! I swung by here during my lunch break for a quick bite, and thoroughly enjoyed the hot dog I got. I purchased the 10 inch Doogie Dog, a perfectly grilled hot dog with horseradish and caramelized onions. The crunch of these dogs was AMAZING. I've been to quite a few hot dog places around the Berlin Turnpike and the dogs of this place by far take the cake. They're exactly what you want from a grilled hot dog. The fries were lovely too--seemingly unseasoned unless you add salt and pepper yourself (which Doogie's offers packets of), so you can season them to taste. The coleslaw was very scrumptious too--$2.99 for a nice container of homemade slaw. They offer a food challenge--for $40 or so, you can get 2 2-foot long hotdogs, an order of fries, and 4 toppings on your dogs. If you finish in 20min, you get a coupon for a future purchase ($20) and a shirt. But the 10 inch dog, slaw, and fries was already enough to fill me up! Speaking of 2 foot hotdogs--they offer hot dogs in 3 lengths. 10 inch, 16 inch, and 24 inch. It's awesome! While I only got a 10 inch one, the novelty of the 2-foot dog is enticing and I will hopefully return sometime to try it out.

2-Foot Man Vs. Food Dog w/Sweet Potato Fries and 12" Cheesesteak

(Last visited August 24, 2023) Wife was craving a cheesesteak and we ride by this place called Doogie's almost every time we come south on the Berlin Turnpike. So today, we decided to try them out and see why they've been in business for so long! Atmosphere/Appearance: It's very simple. No frills, just a brightly lit dining room, very colorful and decorated with memorabilia of events that have occurred here throughout time. It was lively and I can here the kitchen enjoying themselves in the back. Lol. Service: It's pretty straightforward. You go to the counter, you order then you sit down until they bring it out to you. No big deal. The people were friendly though. Food: Of course... I got the 2-Foot Long Man Vs. Food Hotdog with some sweet potato fries. The fries were straight. Crispy, crinkle cut and nothing crazy. They could've used some salt. Now for the hotdog. They are a mixture of beef and pork. On it is chili, cheese, onion, peppers and bacon. This sounds absolutely perfect. The flavors were comforting and reminded me of hotdogs from my childhood. The dog didn't have the "snap" from the casing that I really like, but eh. So be it. The chili was standard and all worked together. I liked how the bread was lightly toasted on the outside while the inside was still soft. This was one of the better hotdogs I have had in a while to be honest. I also got to try their cheesesteak which is 100% angus beef (unsure of the cut). On it is American cheese, peppers, onions and mushrooms. It was delightful! Very flavorful, but could've used more salt, more cheese and a little more heat on the meat for the Maillard reaction to create that umami flavor. However, on my second bite I had a better ratio of ingredients and it was much better. Value: My 2-Foot Long Man Vs. Food Hotdog costed me $21.00. the 12" cheesesteak was $19.99. This stuff isn't cheap anymore, but... you do get sizeable portions and high quality food. It's totally worth it. In conclusion, we loved it here, it's just not the healthiest food so we don't frequent. We have been here multiple times though and I do recommend this place! Check it out if you're in the area or are up to tackle their 4-Foot Hotdog Challenge where you eat 2 2-foot longs, some fries and other stuff. Lol.

Good dogs, good sides, little but fun sass Doogies use to be an old college haunt for me. Tasty dogs and good prices. It's been a while since I've come to this location, and coming back was a nostalgia trip. The place is small, but the servers are kind and the food comes out quick. The dogs are a good quality, have a snap and are proportionate to the bun and toppings. It's simple flavors but done well. The fries were crispy and sweet, the Mac n cheese barrels actually had a good amount of cheese sauce to them. It was surprisingly good. As a hot dog place, it's good but simple. The buns also needed to be a little crispier. Make no mistake though, doogies is a great spot for a dog. Just don't go in expecting amazing. Go in for a good dog done right.

Have wanted to stop by for a long time and finally made some time to go. Went there around 530pm on Sunday and we were the only customers. So we took our time ordering. Had to try ghe 24inch hot dog, but I laughed as everyone else with me wanted a cheeseburger. Everything seemed made to order and came out hot. We wanted to try the fries and onion rings and both were good. Burgers were juicy and the hot dog was like a typical one. Although it was a little small, and wished it was larger to fill the bun more. But for all the hype, I can say I tried it. Restaurant has plenty of tables and seats. Mostly set up for parties of 2, but you can move them together if there are more of you. Private parking lot with plenty of parking. There is a wall of fame for a hotdog eating challege, so come check it out. Lot of pics of winners.

It has been quite a few years since I have been in Newington, so when we were up the road for go karts, I jumped at the chance to revisit Doogies. This place is like a time capsule to a simpler time. The decor is dated, but that is the point. It is clean (restrooms too), and the staff are welcoming. They are known for their 2ft hot dogs as well as a 4ft challenge dog. They were also shown on season 2 of Man Vs Food (not the challenge). My son ordered the kids fish and chips, which came fries and a drink for $9.99. The fish was fresh and the portion was generous. My wife and I split their Tuesday special, which was a 2ft dog with fries and a drink for $14.99. The dog was great. It had a good snap, and the condiments were fresh. The spicy relish had just the right amount of kick to it. If I had any complaint at all, it would be the choice of bun. I feel like the bun would be perfect for a philly cheese steak, or a loaded dog to hold more toppings. With a basic dog, there was close to an inch of extra bread over the dog. On a foot long (or 2 footer), that is a lot of bun. When in the neighborhood, we will be back.

2 x 2 dogs with chili cheese bacon and another 2 foot wonder with chili cheese and sauerkraut !! With tots and a wimpy 10 inch dog !!

I'm going to just say wow !!! Insane .. was worth the trip and totally insane 3 foot hot dogs ! A staple on the Berlin turnpike if you know you know . Small hot dog stand with your typical standards of dogs / burgers / fries and shakes. Have a few tables fountain sodas and the people behind the counter are fantastic . Small interior can get a little warm like an old style soda shop but comfortable . So if you want to take on the challenge then be my guest you get like 30 minutes man v food !!

    Lobster roll $24

Soo, this place looks a little scuzzy inside. Visible things like the garbage can looking dirty on the outside and bugs in the florescent light covers. Worse, you can see guys working on the food-line with no hairnets and lots of scraggly head and facial hair. One of the guys had a bandana, but I think that was more for sweat collecting. Also, I heard one of the 'cooks' yell,' I need a f---ing name [on the orders].' From the back of the seating area where I was sitting with my kid. The hot lobster roll was like $24.00 and it wasn't great, could have had more meat, and it was tough and not very flavorful. Also I think you're supposed to use salted butter in the melted butter cup for the lobster roll. The hot dog seemed super salty.

Loved my First visit Will be here many more times Can't wait to do the challenge LOL

I stopped at Doogie's for a quick dinner. They're open for take out and outside picnic table dining. One of Doogie's things is oversized hot dogs. I got a 10 inch (which I think is the smallest dog you can get) Martin Rosol Kelly dog with Kraut and mustard. The Kelly dog is like a kielbasa/frank hybrid. It's tasty and denser than average hot dogs. It was well grilled and the bun had a nice crisp. My issue with Doogie's is that the dog doesn't fit the bun so you have to eat a few bites of the dog without bread or toppings. I prefer everything to be in proportion.

Went here on the way to taking our son to a concert in Hartford. The food was great and we all loved it. I had a bacon cheese dog, my son had a Caveman burger, and my wife had a junior fish & chips. Everything was fresh and made to order. And the fried dough with powdered sugar was heavenly. Coming back soon.

Even the bathrooms were noticeably nice, particularly for such a fast-paced lunch spot. I had the Chicago Dog and the House Dog. We've been on the hunt for a good Chicago dog that's, you know... closer than Chicago, so I was glad to see one on the menu. It was quite good, but not what I expected based on the ones I remember from Chicago. This version leaned heavier on the relish and toppings, didn't have the bright green relish, and ended up a little messier overall. It did match exactly what the menu described, though, so that part's on me for not reading it more closely. All that micro-complaining aside, I'd get it again--though I may first try to work through the extensive menu a bit. There are some great options, and you should expect to struggle deciding (maybe check the menu in advance). The House Dog was delicious, but also pretty messy--definitely grab some napkins. Prices were a tiny bit higher than I'd expect for hot dogs, but the quality, presentation, and overall vibe seemed aligned with that. Overall, Riley's is a great option if you want a nicer sit-down hot dog experience with lots of choices and a comfortable atmosphere. I'd go back, especially to try more of the specialty dogs.
