    Cajun hotdog Bacon Cheese hotdog
    Lori D.

For those craving a real dog (not beef), stop on by this cool food truck attached to a taxi. It's right across from Cumberland Farms. This truck is seasonal, so catch them while you can! They have a few hotdog choices, but take notice, it is cash only. I went with the bacon cheese & the Cajun. Yes, if you're a full grown adult, you will need to purchase two for a fill up. The dogs are on the skinny side compared to a grote & wiegel (I'm showing my age). Nonetheless, they are satisfying. At first when seeing the sliced deli cheese, I was disappointed but hey, I do the same thing at home, so I knew it was still going to be good. For the Cajun, I went for the mild relish instead of hot, & it was great! Kinda wish I had more. The bacon was sliced not bits. That's a thumbs up for me. Each bite consists of bacon. I did notice condiments aren't readily available...I'm addicted to Ketchup. There is seating outside with umbrellas, but no tables. Do you really need them though. When I have another hankering, I'll be sure to head here.

Oh man, there are no words to describe Top Dog. Actually there are... just an awesome simple steamed Thumann's hot dog, with a snapping casing that pops when you bit into it, with all the fresh homemade toppings, plus your choice of beverage served from a hot dog shaped trailer towed by a vintage yellow cab. You can put that into a TV ad jingle! However, if you are looking for a fancy hot dog with all the frills & glamour, toasted bun, bunch of toppings to choose from, etc... then this won't be the place for you. Top Dog keeps it simple by having a very limited menu with limited toppings to choose from; but everything here is homemade and fresh. I have not had a hot dog here I did not like. My favorite is the Cajun Dog all the way and the Kraut Dog with spicy mustard. This place is cash only! Make sure to bring bills $20 or smaller as they tend not to take larger bills.

The sauerkraut here is homemade and you can tell...its great.

One of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had! I placed a very simple order (french…read morefries), and paid immediately upon doing so. As I stood on the sidewalk, waiting to receive my food, several other groups of people walked up, place their orders, and receive their food before me. I noticed that the cook who was working inside the food truck repeatedly pointing me out to his companion, and indicating that I needed to be served. None-the-less, my order was not called until the three couples behind me had received their order. When my name finally was called, and I walked up to the window to take my order, the gentleman taking orders immediately told me that I owed him five dollars. I informed him that I had already paid him, to which his response was "Me? Oh, you didn't pay me!" I had, in fact, paid him immediate;y upon placing the order, as previously stated. I reminded him that I had paid earlier, which he continued to deny, very rudely I might add. I even when so far as to check my pocket for the five dollar been I had been carrying when I placed my order... Just to make sure I didn't still have it. It was gone, as I had indeed given it to the gentleman in question when I placed my order. I received no apology from the man at the window, no did he offer me a refund. However, because I prefer to set a precedent that is beyond reproach, I told the gentleman he could keep my money and the food, and walked away, five dollar out, and hungry. My suspicion is that the gentleman working the window was being discriminatory. I an an LGBT student at Wesleyan University (the truck was on campus that night), and I am gay in a way that is one might describe as "overt." The man working the order window was clearly uncomfortable serving me, and as a result he all but refused to do so, until the gentleman he was working with insisted he give me my food. I also feel that he either forgot I had paid him (because he took so long to give me my food in the first place), or simply felt that he had the right to give me a hard time. I would never again patronize this business, and encourage others not to do so either. It was a terrible experience, and jarring to say the least.

They have their takeout service down to a science. This is one of those pizza places where it would be best to go with a large group of people order several different styles of pizzas and kind of do a tasting? However, I went solo and thoroughly enjoyed my Mamma Mia. Great pizza, cool bar and very old school pizza joint vibes inside.

That's how I first learned about @brickandbasil in Yantic. I visited several months ago, but forgot to post my review. There was a bit of a hiccup when I visited. I drove about 40 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, I learned that they were closed for their first ever private Baby Shower party. I was crushed. But this story has a rated PG Happy Ending. I called the restaurant and spoke to Amy. I explained that I had driven a ways and asked if they could make me a pizza to go. They didn't take long to tell me that they would make me the first pizza of the day before the shower got into Full Swing. I was grateful for their hospitality, and terrific wood-fired pizza. I was inside briefly. They have plenty of seating and a bar that with decor suggesting a love of music. I ordered the Mama Mia and ate a couple slices outside. It had sliced meatball, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and ricotta on a good chewy Wood Fired Crust. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The red sauce had bright flavor. The ricotta was creamy and fluffy. Brick and Basil is well respected in pizza circles, and I can see why. It started as a food truck. But a food truck that starts with the word Brick, was bound to have a Brick and Mortar. And we're lucky they do. 5 Stars
