The Roadside Dogger is the best lunch bargain in Downtown Hartford. For a few bucks you get a tasty…read moresammich, chips, and a drink with fast, friendly service. "But I don't eat at trucks," you say. "Your loss," I say. It's time for a little culinary daredeviltry and to boldy go where you've never gone before. Normally I review based on ambience, service, and food. Obviously you're not going to have much ambience at a food truck, so we'll bypass that one. Though, honestly, in the shadow of the Wadsworth Atheneum is as good a place as any to grab lunch. If you go Wed-Fri, you can eat on the Atheneum steps, and then visit the museum. Dogger's open on Mon and Tues, too, but just sayin'. The service is top-notch. Mr. and Mrs. Dogger are good people. They enjoy what they do, and it shows. The food is prepared to order, it's quick, and even a first-timer is made to feel like an old friend. The food (which is why you're here, after all), is excellent. I've never had a bad meal here. Pulled pork, buffalo chicken (with extra buffalo), meatball or meatloaf grinder, and, of course, dogs; they're all great. The sandwiches are tasty, they're fresh, and I love the bread. There's a certain establishment kitty "corner" to the Dogger, a "stone's" throw away, shall we say, that shall go nameless, which no matter how much I want to like it, I just can't get past the crappy bread. That's why I mention the bread at the Dogger: it's really good. I suppose my one grouse is they don't carry coleslaw for the pulled pork, but that's not for a lack of trying. For some reason, you philistines who inhabit the Connecticut River Valley don't top your pulled pork with coleslaw (really people?) so Mrs. Dogger got tired of throwing it away. Apparently I was the only one who kept asking for it. It was good coleslaw, people! Ah, well, there's always got to be one little niggle; nothing's perfect. Do yourself a favor, get over your thing about trucks and head to the Dogger. You'll get good eats cheap, from two really nice people and before you know it you'll be saying to your friends "Hey, let's head to the Dogger for lunch" as they all give you funny looks for going to the truck.

The husband and wife duo is amazing they are very friendly and conversational I did not feel rushed like they were there to just take my money. The steak and cheese that i choose to eat was wonderful topped with onions peppers and cheddar cheese. For $6 this is a steal it included a bottle of water (my choice) and a bag of chips. I will be back... also if you call ahead they will make your food so it is ready when you get there. A must have.

Since it is a hotdog stand I'll try to get right to the point. Pros: - Alex (a.k.a. the hot dog guy) is extremely friendly and always willing to customize your order no matter the amount of people behind you - He is one of the few hotdog vendors that I have observed wearing gloves (and changes them when they get dirty) which after observing some vendors touching trash and scratching themselves then proceeding to making food is a plus - He is dependable meaning no matter the weather he'll be located right outside of The Russian Lady - I once dropped my got dog right after I got it and he was kind enough to make me another one right away (free of charge) Cons: - Due to hot dog stand stand being located right outside of The Russian Lady you are guaranteed to have to deal with extremely drunk and loud people - Drunk people will try to skip the line or get really close to your food to see what you ordered

After a night of dancing, dripping mascara, and sore feet, you wander the streets of downtown Hartford looking for a quick bite to eat. You're tired of the mediocre pizza at Aladdin's and decide to grab a bite at a street meat stand. You go to the first cart outside of Blackbear and witness the hot dog man stuffing garbage into a trash can with his bare hands. Slightly disgusted, you crawl your way to the entrance of Russian Lady and witness the holy grail that is Hartford late night food. Alex the hot dog man stands in his newly bought hot dog truck wearing a set of plastic gloves, topping hot dogs with cheese, chili, and potato chips. He's always welcoming to everyone and especially so to his frequent customers who eat way too many hot dogs (me). Open 10PM-3AM Thursday through Saturday, you can always expect excellent service and delicious late night food after your night out.

I haven't tried Hot Taco's dinner food yet, but after trying breakfast, I just bought a ton of stock in the OG Breakfast Burrito. If you don't know, Gastropark is alive in the mornings from Wed. through Sunday now. Perkatory Coffee has morning and afternoon hours on those days. Hot Taco Street Kitchen has been on the Schedule for each of those days this week. Small State Provisions Bakery has morning and early afternoon hours Thursday through Sunday. These types of clusters are important. The fact that each of these places was open this morning encouraged me to visit. I ordered the huge OG Breakfast Burrito. Taking authenticity out of the mix, I'm not aware of a better breakfast burrito in the area. The flour tortilla was great and had a nice grilled texture on the outside. I'm not sure my pics captured how great it tasted. It was filled with awesome eggs, sweet and savory chopped bacon, melted cheese, great avocado and chipotle aioli. It was a lot of fun to eat, with its crispy bacon and jolts of flavor from the bacon, chipotle aioli and fresh avocado. I'd highly recommend the OG Breakfast Burrito. You may not need lunch if you eat one. Since Hot Taco is a food truck, you should confirm its schedule before visiting Gastropark. Five Stars
