Hot Damn! - now that's a tasty burger! If you've been reading my reviews for the last few months, you'll know that I just relocated back up to Seattle after living in Southern California for the past several years. And since moving up here, one craving I have not been able to substitute or quench has been my craving for word famous In N' Out Burgers - a Southern California institution. That is - until today. I think I may just have found the closest thing to In N' Out outside of California. And it's name is Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Stopped in here today while running some errands in Renton - a neighborhood I find myself in next to never. I'd been reading about Five Guys for a while, and when I saw the sign decided to check them out. First off, the place was PACKED! (always a good sign). I waited in line, ate my free peanuts (a nice touch) and ordered up. I like the simplicity of the menu. Not as simple as In N' Out - but simple nonetheless. Ordered up my single patty burger with lots o' fixins. To the best of my knowledge, I did in fact receive said burger. However, only seconds after unwrapping the foil off of this beast, I was licking my fingers in completion. Wha? Where did it go? Did someone take my burger? Have you seen my burger? I asked around - everyone thought me a little odd. I was that crazy guy in the corner talking to himself. The guy everyone tries to ignore and pretend they don't see. Someone eventually passed me a napkin to wipe the ketchup from corners of my mouth. I think they felt sorry for me. I just sat there bewildered. I think I very well may have inhaled this thing. It was that good. One second it was in my hands - the next, in my stomach. I think Five Guys must be an east coast chain or something. There were all sorts of signs on the wall referring to press releases in East Coast newspapers about how good their burgers are. Well deserved praise. Thank god for Five Guys - knowing that they're a short drive from my house makes those nostalgic longings for In N' Out a slowly fading afterthought... I'll be back... read more

Looking for the best french fries that can be found? You are going to want to check out Five Guys. This newly opened franchise (and a favorite of a certain President Obama) is a HIT in the Renton Landing. The burgers are flavorful, delicious, done (but not overly done), and come with a variety of make-it-your-own condiments. It is really fun to try new combinations... The burgers are all made to order and I'm told that the meat is never frozen. Lets be honest though. The burgers are good. They are. But, the shining star of awesomeness is the pomme frites. They are the perfect amount of oily crisp flavor and perfection (I already used that word, but really, they are) that makes a fry french. I smother mine with the provided apple cider vinegar and then liberally scoop up ketchup. Bliss. Five Guys has a philosophy of doing a few things but doing those things really well. So, no shakes, pies, salads, etc... will be found here. You can get burgers, fries, and that is about it. In good news. Their philosophy works. Come on down, grab a handful of peanuts while you wait in line and decide if you want a little (one patty) or a regular (two patties) and don't even THINK about skimping on the fries. read more

If I were lazy, I would just say I agree 100% with Kevin W's review, but I'm actually just semi lazy, so the following is my own half-review. The burger is messy, really messy, half of the ingredients fell out with my first bite, including the buns. I recommend getting the "little" burgers, which has single patty, and easier to "handle". I suggest you skip the fries all together; the portion is too large for one person so you end up throwing at least half of it away, plus they're "wet". For my "quick" burger lunch alone, I spent $12, which is quite expensive for a burger meal. read more

Gross, greasy burgers and tasteless fries. Five Guys is not at all like In and Out, in my opinion. We live very close to the Landing, but hadn't yet checked this place out, so my husband ran down to get us a burger today for lunch. I had my doubts that I would like the food as soon as he walked in the door, because the take-out paper bag was soaked in grease. The burgers were wrapped in foil and as soon as I pealed it back, I could see that the bun was glistening with oil. (Pictures in other reviews are very accurate, so if that looks tastey to you, perhaps you'll like it better than I did.) We went here awhile back because we had heard RAVING reviews about this place. I have to say, I'm not a huge burger fan in general, BUT I'm always willing to try something new. My boyfriend LOVES burgers, from our point of view, it was OK, but the grease factor was a little out of hand... I could feel my inards SCREAMING for help lol. I've been hearing about 5 Guys for a few years now courtesy of my internet friends and had always wondered what the hoopla was all about. Suffice to say, I now KNOW what the hoopla is all about. What a fantastic burger!! For the money, and even compared to expensive restaurant burgers *cough*Palace Kitchen*cough* 5 Guys delivers. Thanks to my buddy Dan A. for thinking about hitting it up one day when we didn't know where to eat. All the ingredients are so fresh, jeez the huge sacks of potatoes picked specifically for the establishment are lying stacked on top of each other in the dining room. No frozen freezer fries here folks. I will honestly say that this place rapes In N Out's anemic patties, which heretofore were my favorite "fast food" burgers. You know something, I don't even care anymore that there is no In N Out in Washington. That's how strongly I feel that 5 Guys is the best burger I've had in a lonnnng time. Another reason why I like it here is that there is no ridiculous wait after you order, it is less than 5 minutes which is impressive for a busy made-to-order burger spot. Really good fries too, can't forget about the fries. I got the spicy ones and they make you really thirsty, so next time i'm just gonna try the regular variety and see how that goes. If you're going to mess up an order, don't hang up on the person calling to correct it. I was calling to say the fries were not included, and when I asked was told if it wasn't on the receipt (son called on the way home), then you weren't charged for it. Really? Then hang up on me? Does this mean you corrected it, and will have the fries ready? You didn't ask how many, what size, say I'm sorry, Just we'll have it ready? What are you going to have ready? You're not a drive through, people don't just drive right back. If you've corrected this, then I will repost a good review, but right now this is totally unacceptable, and we won't be back. It is no Red Mill, but if you are looking for a burger joint in the Renton area then this is probably the best restaurant you will be able to find. Everything here is made to perfection and it is hard to spot any sort of imperfection and the service is friendly while the atmosphere reminds me of those stereotypical burger joints that you would see in late eighties movies. Got the burger with two patties and basically everything on it and, although I wish there was egg as an option, the taste of the ingredients was beyond what I had initially expected. Is it better than In-N-Out? Pretty close comparison in my experience, but it is nice to see a burger joint pop up so close to home for once since the only other place for a burger would be McDonald's or Burger King. Also, get two orders of cajun fries; one for the actual meal and one for the drive home. read more

I've been to the one up in Northgate a couple of months ago and just recently been to the new one in Renton's The Landing. I have to say that I'm a big fan. I'm a huge burgers & fries guy and I certainly love their combos. The burgers are made to order (with a ton of choices for toppings, all included) and you can tell they're pretty fresh. It comes served up all juicy with the cheese just dripping off the burger. They have a small size and a regular size. The regular size is actually two patties and it's well worth it. The fries are what makes me come back for more. The Cajun fries are definitely some of the tastiest fries I've tried. Not only that, they serve a generous size portion of these carb sticks. They say a regular order can feed two people (or half a Nerick). They pretty much stick this cup in a brown paper bag and throw in the fries until the cup fills up and spills out into the bag. Seriously though....go Cajun on the fries! I have yet to try their hot dogs, but it's going to be hard to get something else now that I'm already hooked on the cheeseburgers and cajun fries. read more

oh man...From the moment you walk in and scoop up a handful of peanuts to munch on to the moment you dive into your burger and fries is burger joint bliss. The staff is super friendly, the menu is crowded with options to pile on your burger, and the fries are heavenly. Seriously, handcut fries cooked in peanut oil fresh when you order....it's a mouthgasm for fry lovers who've had their palettes abused by McDonald's pre-cooked re-heated fries. Betsy and I got our standards when we hit burger joints. For me thats a bacon double with cheese. It was greasy the way real burger patties ought to be, the bacon was right in the "not too crispy, but not too limp" catagory, and the cheese was piled on. Even the buns are better. I would say that I savored my burger, but really I devoured it without pause or mercy. I have lived across the street from Five Guys for over half a year and I just now tried it - I am glad that I did. I think the place gets more hype than it deserves, but I do think that they have better burgers than other chains. I got the little bacon cheeseburger with grilled mushrooms and hot sauce. It was the messiest burger I have ever seen in my life. I definitely enjoyed it, but when it comes down to it, it is just a cheeseburger, not filet mignon. They have a small menu, just burgers and fries - I really wish I could have gotten a yummy shake to go with it! Overall, it was a good burger (especially the bacon!) and the service was quick and friendly. The best part of my experience happened while I was waiting for my food. The restaurant offers peanuts, and a young guy ran in, grabbed a handful of peanuts, and ran like hell out of the store. bahahhahaahah. One thing that I am entertained by is all this talk about "free toppings". People are freaking out about getting free toppings, but people do not seem to realize that lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, etc. are things that come standard on burgers at any other place. I generally don't review fast food chains, but there's so much hype about Five Guys, that I decided that I should, because, well, I'm in the minority- I didn't think they were all that. First off, there's nothing wrong with Five Guys. They're slinging out some decent burgers and you do get to order it the way you want it. PS don't order the large fries, the regular size is enough for 2-3 people. In fact, I think that maybe why so many people gush over this place, they're being bribed with excess carbohydrates. My main problem with Five Guys is with all the hype and price differential from other fast food places, that I was expecting more. The beef is pretty flavorless and cooked dry. Plus I don't know how, my burger was mashed up into a ball. I guess the little gal packing those bags was feeling a little aggressive that day. It's been a while since I've been back and I don't remember these prices. They have no kid menu so I paid $5.29 for a little plain cheeseburger. The burger was juicy yet tasteless but all the extras made it a little better. The fries are the best. To me not worth the amount of money for just an okay burger. read more

"it's a fusion of Dick's & In-N-Out". If someone says that, you know it has to be pretty darn tasty. It's a chain that I had heard of many times - and you know when they don't have the restaurant or store in your area, it makes you want it that much more! So far, there is only 1 location in the area at The Landing in Renton, and I saw that one is coming to Thorton Place by Northgate - (too sure when though!) Some education: -The "little" burgers are one patty, the rest have two patties -You can get your fries cajun - but i don't think it said that on the menu -You can order your own fixins' - its nice that they have jalapenos! This is one of the few places where I've been able to order a meatless burger and it's not a big, greasy, soggy, mess! When I say meatless, I don't mean with a veggie patty. They don't have those. So it's basically the burger without the meat. Most places think they have to make up for the meat by plastering 20 pieces of cheese to the bottom bun and what results is a cheesy/bready mess with some veggies piled on top. Another great thing is the any/all toppings are included deal. I love that! Who wants to pay an extra for more veggies? I sure don't! You just tell em what to slap on that bad boy! The fresh made french fries are so delicious! I will admit that they are a bit on the greasy side. But the flavor is SO good! They are the only fries I actually enjoy hot or cold. I get the cajun seasoning, eat what I can, & take the rest for a late night snack. Mmm. The serving sizes are HUGE! So unless you're sharing - plan on having leftovers. Plus, 5 Guys gets major points for procuring locally grown potatoes. In the end - I removed one star for not offering a vegetarian patty. As much as I love a meatless burger, I want the option. Very messy - I expect some mess with eating a burger but this was too much, and I didn't have that many toppings on it. "Regular" fries can easily serve 2-3. Not advertised, and y'know, what if I'm going alone and want some fries? "Regular" burger was a double. I would have been happy with a single, but those are labeled as "little" which makes it sound like a kiddie burger. And - I'm sorry - the burger wasn't all that good. One word: Greasy. I like their approach to customize a hamburger, but is it really necessary to have scattered boxes upon boxes of peanuts laying around every corner? Sure, you get "all you can eat" peanuts when you dine here, but it just makes the place seem crowded and messy. The wait was not that bad. There were a lot of people behind the counter cleaning and cooking. Most of them were busy doing something. It took about 10 minutes for my order since they don't have old fries sitting under heated lamps. Instead, they make a new batch for every order. My burger was made exactly how I ordered and wrapped in a tinfoil to keep it warm. By the time I unwrapped it , the bun was all soggy, but it didn't fall apart as I ate it. I also had some of their fries with the Cajun seasoning (on the side). Those fries was a heart surgeon's nightmare. The whole paper bag was drenched with oil. Though it was hot and crispy, they could have done a little better of draining the excess oil before they throw it in a paper brown bag. This was about the worst burger I ever had. Me and 4 friends (I guess that made us five guys) decided to try the Renton location. One friend was pissed that they didn't have shakes and we were all impressed with the portions of food. However, with the taste being worse than any cafeteria we all stopped eating a few bites in. One friend said it best. You can't beat Red Robin (Which was across the street). I think the Robin is pretty much an average burger but on that day it would have been a welcome change. read more

Five Guys was a really unpleasant experience for us. I barely know where to start... As mentioned, the atmosphere was plain, open and noisy with bags of potatoes and boxes of peanuts and oil in the dining area. But, we really came for the burgers, right? We had barely looked at the menu, when we were called to the second register. Before I could even glance at the menu, the cashier asked if it was our first time here. When I said yes, he said that he needed to help the next person in line. (wtf?) The three of us hastily ordered two regular burgers, one little burger, two fries, and two drinks. The order came surprisingly quick, but the paper bag was soaked with grease before we even set it down on the table. (blargh...) My little buger was stacked with goodies, but fell apart after the first bite. The buns were soggy and flat. The only real flavor I experienced was the A-1 Sauce and sauteed mushroom "freebies." I don't understand the hype behind the FREE aspect of this. If you order a bacon cheeseburger at Red Robin, Carl's Jr., Red Mill, or any other burger joint, they don't candy coat the toppings, bragging that they're free. They just come with the burger. There are a few out of the ordinary, like jalapenos... but I'm sure if you asked, they'd cough some up at any other place. The fries left so much to be desired. Soggy, limp, potatoes with a hint of soil flavor are not what I look for in a good fry. Quality over quantity, please. Not to the fault of the Five Guys, but we were also hit with a barrage of noisy, ill mannered kids, ( one was even practically naked) playing hide-and-go-seek or something throught the place. I've eaten at many burger places but i never expected Five Guys to be this great. Today was my first day going to Five Guys Burgers and Fries and i honestly wish i could have stayed around for another 4 hours to eat dinner too. I couldn't believe that the burger toppings were ALL FREE. I haven't had grilled mushrooms on my burger for quite a while. I did notice that if you don't get any toppings and just get it plain that the price for the burger seems a little high. The potatoes come from different places and there is a sign that tells you what area they come from for that day. This is a great way to know that you are really eating local ingredients. But why does it matter with the crazy amounts of fries that are served. I got a small cup but there ended up being more fries in the bag than in the cup. It's like getting three times the amount of what you paid for. For me an my friend we shared a thing of fries and our bill came to around $16. I totally feel the price is worth it for the great selection of toppings, the portion sizes, and the atmosphere. The price may be high for those that want a cheap eat but remember that if you like Red Mill, you know the burger is worth the price. If you ever are down near Renton take a stroll on by Five Guys for a great burger... and FRIES!!! Went here with the hubby. Heard about the great burgers. Burgers are meant to be greasy, juicy, and delicious. These burgers were dry, tasteless beef, and very very heavy. WOW! This place should have been called Eight Guys and three Girls Burger and Fries!! I was there on a very gorgeous Sunday Morning at about 11:30. I must have just beat the lunch rush because I was the only car parked in the row of spots and when I left all the parking on the side street was full. I had never heard of the place until a couple weeks earlier at the Landings' block party and was in the neighborhood, so I had to give them a shot. I had a "Mini-Bacon Cheese Burger" (mini because it only had one patty, regulars are double burgers) and it was delicious, and to justify to myself for going there, I did not get any fries so I can't review them. The first thing that I noticed when I stepped in the door was a sign warning everyone there is fresh, shelled peanuts inside!! The next sign was a listing where the potatoes that make up "today's fries" were grown. Then there is the condiments list. I can't think of anything else anyone would want to put on a burger!! It was all there, and all free. From the grilled onions to the sauteed mushrooms and the jalepenos, the list was as long as my arm!!! All in all, I had an awesome experience and would recommend it to anyone!! read more

Burger bowl. Need I say more? Look, for a burger stop this place really kills it (in a good way). They are one of the few restaurants that happily accommodated my whole30 needs and god I had no idea how desperate I was for that juicy burger. I never thought I'd enjoy a cheese-less, bun-less, sauce-less burger as much as I did. If that doesn't tell you how delicious the food is, I just don't know what does. Listen- for fast food, this place is the crème de la crème. The only reason I knocked it down a star is because I wish they'd add some other exciting toppings- an egg, avocado, or pickled jalapeños would be amazing. 5 Guys makes a decent burger. I would not however say it's phenomenal, or anything to write home about. It's better than most fast food joints, but doesn't measure up to Red Mill. The cajun fries were good, and they give you a very large amount. The soda selection is better than most places, as the fountain has Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Caffeine Free Diet Coke, Sprite Zero, Mello Yello, and a couple others. The price is comparable to most mid-range burger places. I spent $14 on lunch, which is a bit more than I'd like, but not terrible. The people were friendly, and if you get there when there isn't a rush, it doesn't take too long. If there's a line at all, prepare to wait a while. read more

I usually don't do this- especially if there is so much hype around a place but bowing down to all the hype I decided while in town to give this place a try- and I'm sorry to say man was I disappointed!! I give it a star for it's simple menu- and a star for how quickly the food was served. Overall though it wasn't as nearly tasty as an In-N-Out burger as it was touted to be on the same level. Not even as good as a Dick's burger which it was similar to. The peanuts are a nice touch, but overall my burger was dry- the bacon was left out, and my husband who loves burgers like there is tomorrow didn't even finish his burger- which LITERALLY NEVER HAPPENS- he'd finish a burger if the house was on fire- that's how much he loves burgers. and his burger didn't leave much to be desired. I really wish someone would redesign their branding. It looks like it was made in Word. But I'm sure that is their schtick. Five Guys and a Burger. Not Five Guys, A Burger, and a Graphic Designer. And you won't feel like a pain in the ass for being picky, it's just how they do it. The fries are handcut, and the burgers are hand-formed...or whatever you call it. Finally tried Five Guys after seeing a nice photo from Jessica C. and also because they are right next door to the movie theater where Henry L. and I caught the first part of the last Harry Potter... Free. They have unlimited peanuts in the shell as soon as you walk in. I was told that this is Five Guys' theme, but given that I've only visited this one, I can't confirm. Tasty, but of course, if you have a peanut allergy, you should probably avoid this place. Cheap. They are essentially a fast food chain. So the prices are very, very reasonable. I especially like that all their toppings are free, I love the grilled onions and the grilled mushrooms -- must get! Tasty. Henry L. told me to order the small -- he was right, it was pretty big as is! We also got the cajun fries to share, but were not able to finish a regular order of that. I think it'd be a perfect size for 3 people to share. Anyway, I enjoyed it tremendously. Maybe cuz we were super hungry. Ironically I've been to the Renton Landing movie theather many times, but I never really noticed this place! Perhaps that is because my heart has always belonged to Red Robin, NOT ANYMORE! This place was amazing! The burgers was HUGE, the fries were fresh potato fries with a choice of plain or cajun style(added spices little spicy) and for a fraction of the cost I would pay at Red Robin! FYI I am not saying I would completely zone out Red Robin, but for most cases with all the pros there will be couple cons. I've always had this philosophy with eating a burger the messier the better, but I didn't really mean it! Talking about burger, I would say this burger place "Five Guys Burgers & Fries" is my champion. My date with my husband is not complete without stopping this place. First of all they are using real meat to their burger. My husband and I always like the cheese burger with light mayo in it. Sometimes their staff member made a mistake in serving our food like giving us the wrong burger or giving us too much mayo, just tell them nicely and they will replaced the order asap. Their burgers are pricey but their service and their food is very satisfactory to me. THE FRIES are so delicous here, because I can taste its freshness. I still can't figure out what makes it so delicious..is it because it is cooked with peanut oil? I don't know... The music they play are all from the 60's and 70's. Are these burgers supposed to be bland? Ordered a Little Hamburger and loaded it up with toppings, and for all the messiness it didn't deliver on flavor. Maybe bacon is necessary to bring flavor to their burger, it was my first time trying Five Guys. I think seasoning the burger patty on the grill would go a long way, because the meat itself is definitely better than regular fast food joints. Their approach to toppings is genius, kudos to them for not nickel and diming customers on ketchup and pickles. Fries were a letdown as well, they looked great but were dry and short on flavor. I ended up dumping most of them, the smallest order still is a huge pile of fries, as everything on the menu is huge. The price is high for fast food, but the portion size is very large - nothing like getting a "little" hamburger that shows 800 calories on the menu with toppings. Good, greasy burgers. Fries are cooked hot to your order and use fresh potatoes. Yes, the burgers are kinda pricey ($8) but they're huge and come with a crap load of toppings. The wait can be a while around dinner hours, so I recommend calling ahead or ordering online to speed up the process. They have open boxes of peanuts everywhere in this location, which is nice to munch on while you wait, but beware if you have food allergies. I only wish they made shakes... read more

Best burger you can get for $5 in the Renton/Seattle area. This place has a "Johnny Rockets" feel to it. Minus the comfy chairs and the retro diner atmosphere. The people here are both friendly and helpful. Since it was my first time at the establishment, the cashier spent a few minutes to explain the items on the menu. "Little burgers" are actually normal sized and the "regular ones" are huge (2 beef patties). The best part is they come with FREE toppings. Mushrooms. Onions. Jalapeno peppers. Everything! The hand cut fries are great too (either the salted or cajun-spiced ones). Perfect for snacking and perfect for sneaking into the movie theatre next door. read more

Downside: - Too far in the boonies where Renton resides. Though I have to say the Landing is lookin' pretty nice. - Need to add EGG as an option to their unlimited toppings! Even President Obama made a stop at this burger joint, how can you not?? Don't be fooled by the "little burger", it is of decent size and will fill you up. But do get the regular size if you want to pack on more delicious patties! Be sure to specify what you want on the burger besides the patties, even things like lettuce and tomato (all toppings are free), or else it will just be the bun and and the meat and it might not be pretty. read more
