Five Guys brings back so many college memories for me, and when I randomly drove by this location and saw it, I had to rekindle that love. Rumor was Five Guys had never made it out this far, or at least no one had though. The line was practically out the door when I got there, but the food is always well worth the wait. The hot dogs are always my favorite, and the fries do actually vary in taste based on where they came from. The peanuts are great too. A lot of times when a chain migrates across country, the food can change. But once I bit into the hot fries and delicious hot dog, I felt like I was back at school. Since there seems to be a lot of points being hit again and again, I think I'll take my stab at them: Decor - I agree with the others who said that all the stuff on the walls touting their brilliance was a bit much. It built up hype and I don't think there was quite enough there to back it up. The chairs are oddly low and shallow and being pure metal with a laminate to make them look like wood very uncomfortable to boot. The music is too loud and they seriously need to invest in a loudspeaker system. I went at 11 so it wasn't too bad hearing the caller, but I can imagine it being nigh impossible during peak dining hours. Besides, this is brand new construction - not putting one in just feels cheap. One other thing: the menu board definitely needs an overhaul: new diners need to know what the difference between a regular and a "little" burger is, not to mention cajun fries and fries "five guy" style which is really just nothing more than plain salted fries. Someone going in completely blind is going to be lost - it was only thanks to fellow Yelpers that I knew to order a little burger instead! Food - I'm not going to compare the food to In 'n Out because I don't think it's a valid comparison: the price point puts this place squarely into Habit/Fatburger/Fuddruckers territory. The burger was pretty good: Better than the Habit and Fatburger, but not as good as Fuddrukers. The fries were fresh cut, but in the Five Guy's style, they just tasted bland - there was some salt on them, but you could barely tell. None of the food was remarkable: better than average fast food grub, but you can still get better at a real sit-down place. Price - Yes, it's expensive compared to In 'n Out, but I like said - this isn't in the same category. It's roughly the same price as Fatburger, if not a hair more expensive. I got my little cheese burger, regular fries and a drink for $10.30. Overall - If you're not in the cult of In 'n Out i think you'll appreciate the place more. It's a solid, if unremarkable higher- end fast food joint. Go in expecting that and you'll be okay. As for me, this is a bit out of my way. I don't know that I'll make a habit of going there. If it was closer, I'd definitely pick it over Fatburger/The Habit if given a choice. read more

I heard a lot of good things about this place so we decided to venture out on Black Friday and get a couple of cheese burgers. When we first stepped up to the counter, the guy taking our order wouldn't even make eye contact. He just kept looking around like he wasn't even interested, so I wasn't sure if I should start ordering. This guy was just a big dumb lazy ass. When our number was called, we got our bag of food and opened our burgers to find that they weren't at all what we ordered. So back it went. I would have just scrapped off what I didn't want, but for $23.01, they better do it again. Had to wait, but finally got the right order. The bun was cheap and soggy, the burger had no flavor, and the fries tasted undercooked. It was like eating a burger in a wet napkin. Won't be going there again. I've been a fan since trying them out in Thousand Oaks before the Northridge store opened. The burger is better than In N' Out's, though you are paying more for that burger. I'm typically getting only lettuce and onions. Mushrooms on occasion. The fries are great and I love the cajun fries. You can also grab some peanuts while you're there, a nice bonus. I LOVE In -N -Out always have, but their fries always sucked!And yes they come cold too. I will be brief today as I just finished this meal. First of all, I did not think it met all the hype and stood out too much. Also, expect to pay about $10 for your meal alone. The burger part was awesome. The ingredients and choices were fresh and vast. Everything together in the smotheredness was delectible. My Cherry Coke was syrupy and sweet. I don't think they do milk shakes there or had lemonade? The real bummer, which I thought was going to be the highlight, were the french fries. Loved the customer service. Stopped here to get the burger to go since I had to go to the Costco gasoline station anyway. Underwhelmed by the burger itself but blown away by the fries. Cannot wait to go back and give the burger another try. It will probably be better to eat it right there than to take it home and stopping on the way home to get gas. And also getting a bit more imaginative with the toppings may make it top notch. But again, it was the customer service that made the big difference. Have grown tired of the blase kids at In N Out. I like it. Its a differrent kind of burger than in n out. Its meatier and the meat crumbles like a home cooked burger. It is more expensive but the place is worth it. The restaurant isnt loud and overcrowded and they have one of those awesome coke freestyle soda fountains. My one complaint is their bathroom handsoap. I always wash my hands prior to a meal and their soap is so strong smelling that when you try to eat after all you can smell is the soap on your hands. read more

I am not the guy to complain much but the customer service was really bad I made an account on here. I went with my girlfriend and told the cashier, Jonathan R, that it was our first time. When we ordered, we both said we wanted cheeseburgers with fries, but when we got our order, I realized I had been charged an extra $2 and had gotten a larger burger with double patties, which I did not want. I told Jonathan R that I did not want this and he said that that's how they make cheeseburgers at five guys. But if that's the case then why did my girlfriend get a smaller, single patty burger? I feel like he just assumed what we wanted. What got me more mad was that he didn't even give me my money back, and he went to a group of employees and told them I didn't want the double patty and they all looked at each other and then at me like I was some sort of alien and said that's how they do it and they couldn't take the burger back. I wasn't trying to return the burger, I know you can't do that at any restaurant. I was just trying to get my $2 back and get a little cheeseburger instead because I had only taken one bite out of the burger before my girlfriend opened hers and I realized mine was different. I want go back here because 1.) the whole staff working tonight was rude to me for no reason. I'm surprised at the low scores here, especially on service and cleanliness. I went here two days in a row. I'm a big In n' Out fan, so I thought I'd see how their competitor did. I got a Small Cheeseburger, All the Way, and I loved it! Wrapping their burgers in foil is a bad move, but I hear they've been doing it a long time. They should change that policy. But the burger was still in the league with In n' Out, if not better. I loved the pickles. I also liked the fries better than In n' Out's. They are both made from fresh potatoes, but Five Guys' are larger and have the skin on. I watched the burger-making process while I waited for my order, and the employees worked like a well-oiled machine. Everything was on an assembly-line. Each paper order slip sat directly next to each actual order (on top of a foil paper) which the employees reviewed as they were making it. It was difficult to slip up. The guy who took my order left the register to clean after he was done with me, but the place was really clean anyway. The employees were all polite. People were coming up to ask for BBQ sauce and whatnot, and everyone was helped politely and cheerfully. I would have given the place 5 stars if it weren't for the prices. One regular fries is enough for two hungry people, but if you are only one hungry person, it is too much and too costly. Two small cheeseburgers and one regular fry was around $12.00 after tax. I wouldn't buy the regular cheeseburger or the drinks. They charge way too much. If they lowered the prices, I'd come here more often than In n' Out. My family loves this place. We eat here once a week usually on Sunday afternoon. We like that we order our burgers with whatever we want on it without raising the price. I like the Little Burger/Cheeseburger which is one patty. The food reminds me of the hamburger joints when I was little. The only thing I would add is to the menu would be a malt/shake. I love the peanuts to snack on while waiting on your food. The staff is very friendly and helpful. What other restaurant, without wait staff, have a worker stopping by asking if everything was okay and asking you if they can get anything for you. The place is clean as they have staff members who come about every ten to fifteen minuets to wipe down the drink area and the empty tables. Some of the reviews try to compare them to In and Out. That's like trying to compare a filet minion and a cheap piece of beef. In and Out burgers are so thin you need a double-double or a triple-triple to have a regular size burger. I've even gotten home and found the inside of the patties were raw and I had to cook them myself before I could eat them. I would recommend checking them out. read more

I had a burger and though I can tell the meat is fresh it did not have a ton of flavor or spices. The cajun fries were the revelation. If they had put the cajun spice on the burger it would have been a 4 star meal. The staff was friendly and efficient. The restaurant itself had plenty of seating. I really love the ambiance of this establishment. Great music. Great service. Perfect place to take the little ones, they provide crayons and cards for them to draw pictures while they wait for their burger or Hot dog ( all Beef) and if by chance your kids are real kids and they get peanut shells on the floor no big deal. I've seen a lot of negative stuff about this place. I agree that Five Guys is just WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. My wife and I like their fries -- I watched them make them, and they fry them once, then fry them again. This makes the outsides crisp, and the insides soft and puffy. It's the way Red Robin does their fries, and it's the way to make really good fries. What messes these fries up - in my experience - is that they're left to steam in the bag or in the cup that they're put into -- so -- if you want these fries at their very best, open the bag as soon as you can after you get the fries, and let them breathe. I see a lot of complaints about burgers being wrapped in 'tin foil.' I don't think that 'tin foil' has been available commercially for at least 60 years - probably much longer. And, if I recall, the stuff that the burgers are wrapped in is paper with an aluminum foil on the other side. C'mon guys - if you're going to review the burgers, and you're critical of what the burgers are wrapped in, at least get it right. TIN FOIL IS NOT READILY AVAILABLE AND IS NOT WHAT THESE BURGERS ARE WRAPPED IN. I've been at Five Guys during its initial growing pains, and it doesn't look as if their people were well trained -- I've seen employees dropping the 'F-bomb' when an order was returned, I've seen what appeared to be sanitation violations, and I saw what appeared to be some pretty clumsy operations. I attributed this to a new place opening up -- and I didn't notice as many problems in my last visit. (I DID have a major problem with online ordering billing my card without my approval, but FIve Guys made it right for me). IF I was making more money, I'd eat there more often. I've even resorted to buying the In-N-Out burgers (two double meat, for about the price of a Five Guys burger) and getting some Five Guys fries to take home. In summary - even though it's expensive, my wife and I like the burgers and fries, and usually just eat in the car or at home.
