There's not a whole lot to be critical about. This location is really clean, the staff is amazing in just about every way, and the food is consistently good. I have gone here on multiple occasions both for lunch and for dinner. I snack on complimentary peanuts while I wait, and by the time I finish one cup, my order is ready. The hot dogs seem a little expensive, though - they're just dogs. But the burgers are brilliant, and I highly recommend trying this place if you haven't been to a Five Guys. read more

We have eaten here before many times. But online ordering is disappointing. The menu is confusing and its isn't easy to add to an exiting order. We ordered today, arrived at the prescribed time and waited 10+ mins than phoned the store. The guy told us that the kid was bringing our food out as we speak, except it didn't come out for an additional 10-15 mins and the food was warm at best. He just lied to us I guess, because none of the food was hot, so they had cooked our order long before. This is an ongoing problems with these type of places. The pandemic was a time to shine for takeout places like this. Hot food delivered quick and easy, but so many, including most restaurants have dropped the ball and delivered poor service, missing items and cold food. Even expensive restaurants have been mediocre. The food industry as a whole has really blown a golden opportunity for income. Poor management during this pandemic has cost food establishments, including bankruptcy, when all they had to do was sense the new economy and offer first-class delivery. Most places have a clientele, but refuse to market directly to them. They had a captive audience trapped at home for a year and blew it. They have caused much of their own demise. New warming containers that keep food hot, a regular customer list with a nightly menu that goes out on a scheduled basis, hot and fresh, would have made big profits. I order from farms stores that can do to customers on a schedule, many miles away, so why can't the local restaurant that is supposedly desperate? read more

Perfectly decent-to-good burgers, fantastic cajun fries and a friendly atmosphere makes 5-Guys a good place to have around town. The place is kept practically spotless by a crew who keep smiles on at all times and work pretty darn hard. Waited ~15 minutes during dinner rush one Wed. night, but the place was swamped and the counter only had 4 people there. 1 taking orders, 2 grill cooks and one guy bagging everything together. Weird note - this particular location has a completely computerized soda dispenser. Customers order their drinks via a selection screen of small icons. Great selection-- over 15 different drinks, but watched at least 10 people spend over 20 seconds each trying to figure out what the heck was going on with those screens. However, the burgers themselves are overly greasy and don't hold up well while being consumed. Compared to a place like In-N-Out, whose burgers are well constructed and juicy without the grease, 5-Guys is perfectly average. Order a small fries and get enough taters to feed a family of 4. Cajun seasoning is not spicy, just Old Bay + Lawry's or something similar. Tasty, quick, better than average fast-food burgers. read more

After hearing about this place from a friend in NY I did some resarch and found out I had one close to my house. I decided to head over to Madison and try out the Burger for myself. I lived in California for a few years and was pretty die hard with in-n-out burger ad had my fair share of trips there. I would sort of compare the two and after my 2nd 5 Guys Trip I would have to say I enjoyed the burger there more then IN-N-OUT but what they do need is milkshakes to accompany the meals. The fries are plentiful and so tasty. They even had vinegar to use which I found as an extra awesome compliment to my large bag of fries. I made a mistake the first time and got the big hamburger which is a "double double" (2 patties) at In-N-Out Burger. I went with the single the 2nd time and it was more then enough especially with a regular fry. The bad part about my experience was the wait. Granted it was a Friday night it took about 20 minutes for me to get my food including time on line. So I wouldn't exactly call it fast food. I will definitely be back though! read more

Yummy yummy yummy. If you're looking for good "homemade" greasy burgers and fries, you have to try this place. The menu is really small so they only focus on a couple of things - burgers, hotdogs and fries - but they do them well. I really like the idea of the unlimited toppings that are all included in the price, so each time you come in you can have a completely different burger. The fries are also really fresh and still have the skins on which I really love! My only complaint would be that the buns don't hold up very well. They get a little mushy and half of the burger and toppings ends up all over your hands. I can't wait to go back and and get another one!! read more

Went to lunch today, the food and service was excellent. The manager(?) went above and beyond to make sure everyone was enjoying their lunch by walking around to each table asking how everything was and if there was anything he could do to make their meal more enjoyable. If you're in Madison between 11:00 am and 10:00pm and want a good burger then this is the place to go. It just opened up, and they seem to be having some kinks in the time it takes to serve up the burgers. The food menu consists of Burgers (plain, cheese, or bacon cheese), hot dogs (plain, cheese or bacon as well) and fries (Normal or Cajun). The normal burger is two patties and the small is one. The hot dog is sliced in half and cooked on the grill. I don't have all the toppings down, but the "All-The-Way" burger comes with at least grilled onions, pickles, lettuce, mayo, Ketchup, and grilled mushrooms. There are many more items you can put on for no extra charge. Last I was in, there were 14 people behind the counter, but most were waiting for the cook to complete the burger. This may be because they are still new. Will have to see how it goes. For true speed, you have Burger king, but who wants that? This isn't bad even if you wait between 7 and 15 minutes for the burger. The decor is white tile with some red checkboard patterns around, and peanuts. read more

God for bid if you want just a shake here. I stop inside because I was waiting on my uber. I just wanted shake on my travels. Then the employees look at me like why am I just ordering that. I come hear all of the time. The fries are the best and they give you way too much, make sure you people to share them with. The hotdogs are cooked perfectly. The burgers are designed to be made how you want them, so if you do not like your choices then it is your own fault, I like mine with lettuce, tomato, onion, relish, and bbq. After moving to the area in July, I have been to Five Guys 10 - 15 times. The burgers, dogs and fries are consistently good. I usually order all three, and on my last visit after I paused after ordering the burger and fries, the order taker said, "No Hot Dog for you today?" It turns out that he had recognized me (I always ride my REI Rivet bike to Five Guys, usually just before or after my shift), and he remembered my regular order, even though I have not been there that frequently. The Five Guys chain, with stores that are cropping up everywhere like dandelions in the spring, is touted by many as having the *best* burgers and fries money can buy (reportedly even President Obama is a fan). I finally made it over to the store in Madison to see what all the fuss is about. This is definitely a no frills operation. The restaurant has all the charm of an industrial warehouse -- a big, drafty, harshly lit room with a concrete floor, plain tables and chairs, and an open fry station. If it's a cool day, be sure to wear a sweater. Clearly people don't come here for the ambiance -- it makes the average McDonalds look like the Four Seasons. You place your order at the counter, pay, pick up a receipt with a number on it, and wait for your number to be called. On a weekday at noon with a sizeable lunchtime crowd, this whole process took less than ten minutes. But then, unless you get stuck behind someone who's terminally indecisive you wouldn't expect to have to wait much since the menu is quite limited. Other than what size burger you want ("little" -- one patty -- or regular -- two patties) and what size fries (regular or large) there isn't much choice involved, except I guess for the burger toppings (pickles, onions, etc.). Your food is handed to you in a brown paper bag, which soaks through with grease pretty quickly from the fries, so best to get to a table or out to your car in a hurry before it tears. The burgers (regular size) are not huge. I'd say the combined weight of the two patties was probably about six ounces, and they're sandwiched in a normal, unremarkable bun. If you like your burgers rare you'll be disappointed -- the company's policy is to cook everything well done, no exceptions. But they are piping hot (assuming they're eaten in the store), and despite the gray interior they're extremely tender and juicy, if a bit underseasoned for my taste. The fries share many of the same characteristics -- hot, tender, and underseasoned. A regular size order is over half a pound -- you'll finish the burger long before you finish the fries, which lose their appeal quickly as they cool. Ketchup is available in those little foil packets that are maddeningly difficult to open with greasy fingers. So what's my verdict. Well, to be honest, I actually prefer a McDonald's Quarter Pounder. I'll concede that Five Guys uses fresher, higher-quality meat, but a McDonald's burger tastes better to me (it's probably all the chemicals they put in it). And I think McDonald's fries (when they're hot) are every bit as good as Five Guys'. I also think the prices at Five Guys reflect the cachet the chain currently seems to be enjoying, meaning they're a bit high for what you get and how it's served. read more

Went here tonight with hubby and two grown sons. They thought it was fabulous. I was hoping to not wind up with terminal indigestion. The music is what I call "guy"music (loud and screamy). The bacon on the burger looked like something you would find at an architectural dig. The cheese was cold and not melted on anything. I was so afraid to eat the fries that I only ate 3 of them. I had gas-X as soon as I got home, and hope to make it through the night. There was nothing remotely exceptional about this food, which took a while to get. The soda machines that look like washing machines from the future are interesting to look at. Just writing this is making me queasy. If you have a tough stomach, have at it.
