Cheese and Rice!! This conveniently located Five Guys sits quietly amidst other storefronts and buildings in a small shopping plaza off of HWY 111. At first glance, you would never know people are even inside this joint, but as soon as you walk in you realize you were greatly mistaken. You are witnessing, first hand--the burger apocalypse. Here's what I observed off the bat: The line to order snaked around the hot and steamy, greasy smelling interior. There were huge white sacks of potatoes lined up for the frying against the side entry wall. While seated were(what felt like) hundreds of hungry people grubbing down on what could be the last burger of their lives. The menu is pretty simple although they offer 5x's as many toppings as most burger places (exaggerating, of course!). The french fries are hand cut, deep fried and come in 2 sizes. (We got 2 orders, but based on how many they dumped in the bag as a bonus, we should have just ordered 1). Topping selection I think, could either make or break your experience. Feedback from the house was that they were good and juicy and the ratio of all the add-ons is a perfect balance...minus the relish. *Downside- No milkshakes, but the bathrooms were clean :) read more

This was our pre Los Angeles drive home lunch. The location is convenient, on the corner of a major 4 way intersection, in a strip mall, by Vons. They offer outside seating as well as inside seating, but with the midday heat we sat inside. Kudos for their music selection: The Clash, Pearl Jam, B-52's, Billy Idol, lot's of rocking 80's stuff, it added a smile to my face. The first thing you notice is how great they think they are. Signs adorn the walls everywhere from various reviews around the United States which proclaim Five Guys THE BEST burgers and fries. THE BEST... which in the end I didn't feel, but who puts up signs that say, a really good burger and fries, which is how I did feel. In any event, to drink we all had shakes ($3.39), which were solid (A-). The vanilla and strawberry had a good consistency and came with your choice of whip cream on top - those were slurped down with big smiles. For me, the burgers ($6.69) lacked three key elements which for me (subjective) might distinguish a burger as THE BEST. First, the bun was just normal, so I found nothing amazing about that. Second, the meat patty was good, but the size was too small. It's bigger than a fast food patty, and the meat is certainly quality, but it's also not big like a backyard patty, so the size was odd. Finally, and this is a preference thing, the patty was not salty enough, which you can easily reconcile with a salt packet, so it's tough to let that serve as a knock. Overall, it was a solid burger (B+), all the accoutrements; lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes were super fresh. I guess I just take issue when someone forces the idea of them being the BEST. The fries are fresh and plentiful (B+), I looked around and did not see anyone, or any table finish their burger and fries. CAUTION: Five Guys uses peanut oil to make their fries, which was a potential problem for one of my daughters who has allergies, thankfully we did not need the EpiPen. They claim the oil is refined and not bad for people with allergies - but who wants to take that chance? Final thoughts... our experience was a solid 4 stars. The service was friendly, and they also offer free peanuts, so, for a REALLY GOOD burger, fries, and shake experience, don't miss this location. read more

After 6 people told us to go taste this amazing burger, my boss and I went to 'five guys'( we work in the food industry) Cool concept! 'Restaurant design'..meh ive seen better. I ordered an iced tea(you get your cup and self serve at the soda fountain) I chose the sugar free one....and tasted it an literally spat it out. IT WAS FOWL. tasted like water with that fowl saccharin. The guy behind the counter came over when he saw my gag reflex kick in and said he would check the machine. I opted for a diet coke. When the burger arrived I was ready to have a great yummy burger. One bite, it was ok [whats everyone ravign about/] two bites and the bread is starting to fall apart. My boss got some black char off the grill on his burger. by the time I got to 4 bites my burger was lying in pieces on the plate. We were both so deflated, we filled a bucket of free peanuts and snacked on that for lunch like two parrots. I will never go back. All the posters about best burger, best under $5, best eat out, best foodie etc ......I can definitely not agree with. If this place can win those titles, then Carls' Jr deserves a gold medal! I was so excited when I pulled off the freeway on my way to La Quinta and saw a 5 Guys. I have heard about this place for some time and heard it is the East Coast's answer to In N Out. Being an In N Out fan, I figured to give it a try. Let me just say this, In N Out is WAY BETTER. The Burgers here are ok and the toppings are nice, yet the fries are not anything special. I first heard of Five Guys from a coworker, who told me it was similar to In-N-Out and pretty popular in his hometown. Well, for the past week, I've been staying at a sumer house in La Quinta and we happened to see a Five Guys on Highway 111. I hate to compare it to their rival of In-N-Out, but the interior of Five Guys is very similar, with the white and red color scheme and tile. The menu is simple with burgers, dogs, sandwiches, and fries. I went ahead and ordered the Little Cheeseburger and shared some Fries. The damage for two burgers, fries, and two drinks was $18 and some change. The food is cooked to order and the open kitchen allows you to see the cooking of your food. The order took 10 minutes or so, which is totally fine with me whenever food is cooked fresh. I did it find it a little odd that they bag your order even if you're dining in. Off the bat the food looked great. The burger was thick and piled high with all the fixings. I took my first my bite and it was perfect. I'm not a huge burger guy, but I like to think I can spot a good burger. The fries could have been cooked a little longer, but were good nonetheless. A few of the optional toppings include jalapenos and their hot sauce (Frank's), which really made a difference. I try not to put too many condiments on a burger, but the hot sauce was the perfect compliment. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with Five Guys. I never thought my first time would of been 10 hours from home, but I'd like to think their consistency is across the board. Although In-N-Out would have been cheaper for two people, it was a nice alternative and who doesn't like trying new food. Five Guys has tons of quotes from newspapers and one that stuck with me is Five Guys found success by making a simple burger with quality ingredients and prepared fresh. OK.... I'm not going to compare this to In n Out because they have been making outstanding burgers and fries consistently for decades. That wouldn't be fair. So lets start with 5 guys - the burger itself was good, i got mine with mayo, BBQ sauce and grilled onions. The onions were barely grilled and they forgot the BBQ sauce. Kind of a simple burger to mess up in my opinion. I can see how people think the burger is soggy, maybe because they wrap it in foil. I ate mine within seconds and it was fine but if i waited a few minutes the steam would have turned the bun into mush. Now the fries were much better than I expected. They cook them in peanut oil and that goes a long way. The are thick cut and very flavorful. They serve burgers. Hot dogs. Fries. And peanuts. The burgers are decent. They're priced a bit high for what they are: slightly larger than fast food with slightly better quality. What bugs me the most is their insistence on plastering their accolades on every surface in the store, from the windows to the cups. It's one thing to be proud, but this seems desperate. At times I'll marvel at the tasty burger, and at other times I'll wonder why it's so dry and boring. As a big fan of In and Out I was skeptical to try this new head of the pack in the fast food burger race. Well, I LOVED it. The Burger looked homemade rather than pressed out of a mold. The lettuce and Tomato seemed hand cut making this burger look like something someone made at home. The flavor was excellent. The fries were great. A large was enough for 4 people since they not only fill the cup but dump in extra fries. The menu is a little deceiving since the regular burger is a double patty and the "little burger" is the same size just one patty of beef. I wish they had Shakes and onion rings but I guess I will save a few calories. The red and white tile inside was very similar to In and Out. I didn't mind waiting for my order since it means someone is actually cooking it instead of pulling it from the heat lamp. I also like the peanuts. Something to pick at while you wait! read more

I avoided the "opening" and each time, driving by, seeing the lines. BUT, HERE IS THE SECRET: if you CALL, you just walk PAST the line and to the register and the food is waiting. You can even call and tell them what time you are going to be there or be sneaky and call from the parking lot.. That all being said I don't get the foil wrapped burger idea as it just creates a soggy burger. Mine had EVERYTHING on it which probably added to the "sog factor." I was pre-warned about the giant portion of fries. Yes, it is GIANT and a bit soft for my taste. The consistency of the meat patty was somewhat crumbly and dry as a bone. I mentioned that to the manager...who immediately replaced it, however, the same poor results. In my opinion, you could have put in a ABC Burger Joint there and it would be crowded. With BUNS, in LQ, gone..there isn't a decent burger place to be had. I'll take Grill-A-Burger in Rancho Mirage (a bit pricey but worth it. I'm not going to waste any time here. This is downright the best fries, yes I said fries. The burger is good. It is a massive step up from other 10$ fast food burger places. But not the best. But the fries. First off its served correctly. Like chips in England its salted a little soggy and u have malt vinegar to splash on its golden crisp skins. These fries are cut thicker then McDonald fries. So it has a closer texture in your mouth to a proper roasted potatoes. U know those baby potatoes that take hours to make. Roasting in an oven in a pan of hot oil carefully turned and basted. Yes. Not like sticks. But much more like a crisp outer shell with a warm soft inside. Don't know what all the hype is about. The meat was gray -- like if it was boiled, not fried, but most importantly -- it had NO taste! So the most important part of the burger was simply bland! The assortment of burger toppings make this place unique, but not worth the price, IMO. The fries were very oily. They tasted OK, but maybe that was the ketchup talking to me? This particular restaurant was very dirty. There were about six people working behind the counter and about six tables in use, so not very busy. There was a break in the action (no orders to prepare) so why didn't those people jump over the counter and mop floors and wipe tables? The dining room looked like a brightly lit back alley! The walls, windows, and cups are plastered with propaganda from various (professional?) reviewers. Doesn't the burger chain have any humility? You earn respect, you shouldn't try to brainwash your customers for it. So needy! The drink machines are in a narrow passageway to the restrooms. It's difficult for people to squeeze by while preparing your iced tea, or whatever. Seems like a weird layout. I wanted to like this place, but it is so mediocre. Service was swift, friendly and polite. Parking was ample in the shared lot. Area was clean and tidy - tables were being wiped down immediately after a customer left. The really awesome thing about 5guys, is they will allow you to have some flexibility in how you want your burger prepared. Usually I'll ask them to make me a Big mac club style so they put an extra bun in the middle of a double patty and they cook it with heart. As far as the specific location goes and These guys are sharp, ive never had 1 error in my food and they know they're super stars. They move and function as a unit and i consider them to be an eilte taskforce of burger flippin success. IS 5 GUYS BETTER THEN IN-N-OUT. That is the question you will ask yourself every time you come into the building. Never fear folks, i have the answer for you. The answer is N/A. You can never say that 5 guys is better or in-n-out is better. First off its 5 to 1 so its just really not fair. There are times you want a burger, and then there are times you want Five Guys. There is no mistaking the two. If you want a burger, you can get a burger anywhere. But you can't get a Five Guys burger anywhere but Five Guys. We've put a lot of thought into what it is that makes the burgers here so freaking good. Fresh ingredients? Traditional preparation? Made-to-order? Could be any or all of those things. But secretly I wonder if a burger can be infused with fun? Everyone at this establishment seems to be having a blast. This restaurant is always clean, always well stocked, and we adore the soda machines. ALL THE FLAVORS! There is rarely a long way to order, and always plenty of seating. Some people complain about the price. My perspective is this: this is not fast food. Yes, it is pretty quick to get your food and yes, you order at a counter. If you want a burger, you've got to go to the La Quinta Five Guys. Best burgers I've ever had in my life, amazing fries - super fresh and non-greasy, plus the custom soda fountain is pretty cool. Last time we were there I had a vanilla Barq's - where has that flavor combination been my entire life? But the burgers... get them any way you want them with whatever toppings you want. Juicy, cooked to perfection. My fave is the little bacon cheeseburger with mayo, A-1, grilled mushrooms and grilled onions. They also have amazing hot dogs - they split grill them and then you can put whatever toppings you want on them. The staff is SUPER friendly. We hadn't been there for about 2 months and they remembered us! Now THAT'S some pretty amazing customer service that you just won't find anywhere else in the valley. read more

I've visited this 5 guys a few times in this last year since discovering it, and I've found that it's really tasty! The burgers have customization, and perfect for the picky tastes of me and my husband. We love the cajun fries, too! The staff are friendly, and pretty quick about making our meals. It has never been made wrong for us yet. I would love to give this place 5 stars, but I had to take two off for a few glaring reasons... First being the simple fact that we just don't want to go there! It feels so small inside of the place because the line goes right through the dining area. If you decide to carry out, there is no real place for you to wait, so instead you have 5 or 6 tables taken by people just waiting to leave with their orders. It feels crowded and really mushed together, and the chairs are a bit uncomfortable, at least to me. If you need to move around the dining area, say to leave, the tables are pretty close, so much that you might bump into folks if they are seated. Second, getting drinks is just a mess when its busy. The drinks are off to the side, where employees need to pass you, people using the bathroom need to pass you, and people are waiting for others to move to use the second machine. It's just a small, cramped area that feels like it's just people rubbing up against other people. No thank you!! Lastly, the price is just a bit high for my tastes. When we want to grab a quick bite, we expect to spend a little less than $20 for two adults. This place gets up near about $25 if we both decide to get a drink, and that's sharing the fries. Because of the price, it's not a place we can go to more than as a once in a while special outing. Okay, I'm back. So my girl ordered a little cheeseburger because she was craving a burger from five guys with her specifics and it came out incorrect, of course so she takes the burger back to let them know, and instead of making her a new one like normal people do and good customer service they offer her all the stuff they forgot in a tin foil. What was I supposed to do it myself? Meanwhile her burger still has the tomatoes on it and she's allergic to tomatoes. After all we just paid a measly 26.00 for a little burger, a regular fry, two regular drinks and a hotdog. I guess the new policy is if they make a mistake it's up to you to fix it. Not sure where the heck customer service has gone not coming back to this five guys. This business is still going strong. We met the owner a couple of days back and she is so nice and friendly that we chatted for 15 minutes. We go here regularey, more than any other burger restaurant. The burgers are second only to In n Out. And the fries are the best, easily topping In n Out and McDonalds comes up 2nd. For friendly service, free peanuts, dog friendly patio (with a water dish), great hamburgers (and hot dogs) and excellent hot and seasoned fries, this is the place. Went over to Five Guys like me and my boyfriend usually do. The only difference was the staff. When we go there usually the same guys which are phenomenal staff always helped me out and never had issues. This time we went around the evening tine there was this girl who for some reason had issues with the way we were ordering and kept getting what we asked wrong to the point when we finally fixed the problem and after ordering my boyfriend didn't feel comfortable eating due to all the issues ordering that they might still somehow mess it up and with mushroom allergies didnt want to risk it and wanted his money back only I kept my meal. He told me as a manager i Of a local business to write a review but I didn't. I'm writing this now because i went to another location and had no issue with the way I ordered as well as other burger joints. She really made me feel like I'm some idiot or something. I was so happy when I spotted Five Guys in La Quinta! :) I told myself we would stop here for lunch before heading back to LA. Last time I had Five Guys I was in NY. The burgers are soooo good! I ordered a kids cheeseburger because I only need one patty. I also LOVE that they have the calorie count right on the menu - this is great! It really helps you see, you don't need that extra patty kids ;) I should have had the grilled onions since I love them so much but I didn't. My son had the bacon cheeseburger (single patty). These burgers are so tasty and the buns are so soft and fresh. A small fry is enough for literally 4 or 5 people. The fries however, were a little to salty for my taste. The prices are kinda high for fast-casual for (2) guys: burgers/fries (split large)/shakes = $27....but it tastes like better quality than typical fast-food. Service was stellar (gotta love they gave free bacon because they had too much on-hand). The peanuts provided while waiting for order is an unexpected nice touch (what other burger joint provides a free snack while waiting). To-go order so the burgers overly wrapped in foil, which trapped moisture = smooshed buns. The buns used are cheap run-of-the-mill. A better bun would go a long way. The shakes are excellent and the Cajun-fries are spicy and tasty...the portion is huge....but limp (maybe they started out crisp when first bagged?). Maybe dining-in is a better way to experience Five Guys that I have read and heard about. Bottom-line: Better burger but not the best. Shakes are great. read more

After hearing about five guys, I decided to try them since they are located across the street from my work place. Walked over to five guys while on my lunch hour. When I walked in, I noticed that there wasn't any combo orders, everything is sold individually. I ordered a hamburger, regular fries and a regular drink totalling over ten dollars. You get to choose your toppings. Also you could snack on some peanuts while you wait. When my order was ready. Everything that is ordered is severed in a to go bag. When looked in to the bag, it was loaded with lots of fries. When I took a bite of my burger it was just as good as In and Out's but a Lil bit more grease.
