Updating my SECOND review of this wonderful classic Burger(and much more) Stand. I went today and met Alex-- the affable son of the kind owner Yolanda. Again, the service is awesome!! I tried a Grilled Hot Dog and the corn dog. They were delicious. Of course I had to go back to Alex and order the paper thin French fries with their malt/pickle sauce--- I was in Heaven!! If you are visiting the Valley ( Listen up Coachella/Stagecoach visitors)-- BURGER BOX IN INDIO is a MUST-- for the best burgers, dogs, pastrami, chicken, fries and shakes in the valley!! I was excited to hear that The Burger Box opened again, under a new owner. First, the young man working the front was very personal and excellent at what he does, and that's the only reason I gave two stars and one star for how nice the person was who gave me my order. But Quickly, I was let down as I had to wait approximately 15 minutes for my order. There were many flies flying around outside, making it non-desiring to eat or even wait in their patio. Mostly everyone went back to their cars to avoid the flies. When the food came, I was so disappointed to see that the burgers looked horrible, and the fries were extremely oily and floppy. The double cheeseburger had only the two (frozen tasted-rubbery) meat, cheese, and pickles (They offered onions which I declined). No lettuce and tomatoes! Looks like I won't be coming back here soon. Maybe once they get enough people expressing their disappointment they will do better. read more

I'll start by saying I love this place. I eat here all the time but this place has no consideration for the customers. They let people blast music in their cars so they can't hear the orders, people just standing in the parking spots and just being overall not considerate to of the other people there. If you guys want to be seen as ghetto by all means do it but don't be surprised when your customers are all ghetto too. read more

Friendly staff. I ordered two doubles for my wife and I. They reminded me of the McDonald burgers you could get on a Tuesday for .20cents. Back in the 90s. These have to be the. Most bland burgers in the Coachella valley. I don't know what the hype is about this place other than being around since the 50s. read more

We had the fried chicken Box and the cheeseburger Box . Both were very tasty and their fried potatoes were not what expected they were freshly cut in circles like at home. Service was nice and friendly the young man that took my order was very helpful I couldn't make up my mind on what to order and told me to take my time . It's old school ambiance apparently this place has been here for years but it was closed and just recently opened again . It's part of Indio history . I will be back . I've grown old and have to restrict my diet but will continue to visit you from time to time. One suggestion, examine the bread to meat ratio on the burgers, seems to me like a bit more bread than in the past. What could they improve, the food for one. The service if good (or least the young Hispanic kid that works there). I got the fries, fish & chips, nuggets, pastrami sandwich and a burger. I like the concept of the potato wedge fries but they are way too greasy. The fish was decent, good size but a bit greasy too. The nuggets are clearly Walmart cheap nuggets. The pastrami was okay, clearly could use a lot more or thicker and more flavor with cheese. And finally the burger (hence the name), it's not a great burger at all, cheap and poorly done. I make better burgers at home using Costco premade bag burgers in a pan. These should be ground hand rolled patties and smashed with lots of seasonings and flavor. Buns should be toasted and the burger put together better (not just slapped together with no thought). The salsa has a good taste but it's pure liquid with no chunk to stick to anything. Overall avoid wasting good money on crappy food, hell, go to McDonald's for better. It was a waist of swapping owners to get worse. The old burgers were better and cheaper for what you were getting. Step it up BB and maybe you'll draw me back. read more

The people were amazing! The hamburger was plain and didn't feel it had any flavor. The fries were different, could have been good but again no flavor. The shake was surprisingly good! Very much a local landmark in Indio Over all, the box in my opinion was not worth $10.99 Side note: You need to come up with a way to keep the flies away. My first time experiencing this burger place was about five years ago. Fast forward to 2025 , when they re-opened I don't remember it being this way at first I thought the prices were reasonable. Saw this burger, it lacked tomato,and lettuce. Very small burger. I also ordered fries, they were very greasy. It took awhile to get our food. Very disappointed in the service. You can eat outside , there are several tables. I know they just reopened and I'd like to give them another translator. Maybe they can improve on the wait time the quality of their food even if they raise their prices a little but for now I wish I had a lot more positive things to say. read more

Old school since 1954. This hole in the wall should stay open longer and not close down before the evening dinner munchies hour. I ordered the cheeseburger combo, with potato fries, deep fried burrito, and a small date shake. The place is beat up but is full of that old school nostalgia and it's a very popular restaurant. My burrito reminded me of the foster freeze ones since they fry them. My husband got a pastrami sandwich and said it was a good size loaded with meat. My sons had burgers and freezes. I was a first time customer and ordered chicken strips with a burger. I bit into the chicken strips and wondered why it was chewy. The chicken was completely raw. I thought maybe it was just the one out of three, trying to be optimistic. Tried the others and the batter fell off by just rubbing it away due to it being raw. Don't believe me, check out the picture. Burger wasn't bad if you don't mind a McDonald style type burger. Definite bummer. It's a small location but you can't miss it the big sign. The place reminds me of a movie filmed a long time ago when they use to wear shakes to delivery your order. When I pulled up there was a line, I was able to order quickly though. The ladies behind the window was very nice. I placed my order and the price was shocking, not bad for 2 order of fry chips and 2 burgers 1 with pastrami, it came out to be $16 with change. After getting home I see why. If you're looking for a clean spot with top quality ingredients and a menu that screams modernism, this ain't it! Burger box sells old school McDonalds style burgers, meaning it's thin patty pickles onion, mustard and ketchup, that's it. That being said, Burger box is beloved by locals for their no frills simplicity that I can completely stand behind. Our side order of fries were by far the best thing we had. These potato slices were cooked perfectly and had a perfect fluffy pillowy texture on the inside. My girlfriend's date shake, a local delicacy, was creamy and sweet, definitely something worth trying if you've never had before. As long as you come in without the highest of expectations you'll find Burger Box to be a good spot to try. Three stars. read more

Burger box has excellent food. The food is cooked to order. The restaurant has an old school McDonald's vibe. The ladies cooking make the food good, and cook the food as fast as they can. I would not consider this fast food. This is more of an in-between as it does take some time to make the food. Only improvement would be to add fans and misters for the outdoor seating and ordering area. read more

This place is definitely a valley gem to try out. Its obvious that its withstood the test of time because it's still around after decades serving out affordable feel good food. Its not a 5 or 4 star spot but don't think it was ever intended to be but the burgers, circle shaped fries and deep fried bean n cheese burritos will leave you with that good home made feeling of fullness. Located in an older section of Indio, The Burger Box is old school all the way. From the parking around former gas pumps to the dining room repurposed into storage and the outside patio providing the 'charm', please don't come for the ambiance. But DO come for the food. Simple but delicious! DH enjoyed the deep fried burrito. Well cooked with a good creamy bean filling. 1 was great but 2 would have been better! Followed by a double cheeseburger which was cooked perfectly and dressed simply in catsup, mustard, pickle and onion. Nothing fancy but definitely hit the spot and tasted like a good beef burger. The fried chicken box rounded out our lunch. Very good, well cooked and meaty pieces of chicken served with their fries. The fries were more of a deep fried chip than a fry but, boy o boy, they were great. Crisp and hot. The real stars of this place are the lovely ladies who take and cook your order. Big smiles on their faces and so helpful with whats what for us newbies. This place has been around forever. Please do yourself a favor and check them out. New owner, bad service. We ordered 3 double cheese burgers and a chicken nugget basket. We received 3 cheese burgers (not doubles), and a chicken basket combo. They ended up charging us for 4 cheese burgers, and gave us 2 pieces of chicken with fries instead of the usual 3 chickens with bread and fries. We ended up going back and received a refund for one of the cheese burgers. read more

I've passed by this gem everyday for the last 2 years going to work. They're not open until 8 am and by the time its lunch I'm not in that area. I happened to stop and try it the other day for the first time and now I'm regretting not coming here sooner. Their burgers are delicious, their whole potato fries are perfection and the shakes are to die for. The best part about this place is that their food is EXTREMELY cheap. I can't wait to come back here again and try a breakfast burrito or the pastrami sandwich. They've been here since 1954 and I think they'll continue to be here for a long time to come. Super simple menu with good prices. The burgers come with just the bun, mustard, pickles, and patty. One can add ketchup if they wish. If you're looking for anything specialty, this ain't the spot! These are modest meals. The burritos are small with the tortilla being fried, almost like a chimichanga. They're filled with bean and cheese and they kind of taste like a little bit of hot sauce has been added. It's so simple, but still good! Burger Box established in 1954. The original owners may be long gone, but the BB still keeps chugging along. It has a great frozen in time feel & look. Probably hasn't changed in over 60 years which, to me, is a good thing. I keep feeling as though girls in poodle skirts & guys with "flat tops" will come up to the order window. However, the ladies working at BB can't or don't show any awareness, enthusiasm, or appreciation for the 1950's feel that the Burger Box embodies unlike the welcoming, warm reception of Joly Kone in Wasco, another 1950's oldie. Understandably, the ladies are probably just paid workers. There is a little outdoor patio with rudimentary fast food seating. No air conditioning, of course, and no indoor seating so in eating there, the ambient temperate would depend on the prevaling weather at the time. Perhaps a mister would help on those 115℉ torpid, desert days. It seems that more people of that era were made of sterner stuff than our present day generation who act like wussies when it gets too cool or hot. Such are the coddled lives many of us lead in the present day. I only had BB's Date Shake which is soft serve vanilla ice cream & was great tasting a bit like Japanese Azuki Red Bean ice cream with bits of ultra puréed dates where you can sense tiny bits of dates sliding up from the straw. The dried dates gave it a slight taste of caramel as noted by Yelper Jim W. BB may be the last of the old school fast food stands serving date shakes in Indio which is still the center for date production. Shields on Hwy 111 is a good place to get the low down on all things Dates in their informative movie, "Sex Life of the Date". For now 3+ Yelp stars just to sample the nostalgia & the old school ambiance. read more
