I've passed by this gem everyday for the last 2 years going to work. They're not open until 8 am and by the time its lunch I'm not in that area. I happened to stop and try it the other day for the first time and now I'm regretting not coming here sooner. Their burgers are delicious, their whole potato fries are perfection and the shakes are to die for. The best part about this place is that their food is EXTREMELY cheap. I can't wait to come back here again and try a breakfast burrito or the pastrami sandwich. They've been here since 1954 and I think they'll continue to be here for a long time to come. Super simple menu with good prices. The burgers come with just the bun, mustard, pickles, and patty. One can add ketchup if they wish. If you're looking for anything specialty, this ain't the spot! These are modest meals. The burritos are small with the tortilla being fried, almost like a chimichanga. They're filled with bean and cheese and they kind of taste like a little bit of hot sauce has been added. It's so simple, but still good! Burger Box established in 1954. The original owners may be long gone, but the BB still keeps chugging along. It has a great frozen in time feel & look. Probably hasn't changed in over 60 years which, to me, is a good thing. I keep feeling as though girls in poodle skirts & guys with "flat tops" will come up to the order window. However, the ladies working at BB can't or don't show any awareness, enthusiasm, or appreciation for the 1950's feel that the Burger Box embodies unlike the welcoming, warm reception of Joly Kone in Wasco, another 1950's oldie. Understandably, the ladies are probably just paid workers. There is a little outdoor patio with rudimentary fast food seating. No air conditioning, of course, and no indoor seating so in eating there, the ambient temperate would depend on the prevaling weather at the time. Perhaps a mister would help on those 115℉ torpid, desert days. It seems that more people of that era were made of sterner stuff than our present day generation who act like wussies when it gets too cool or hot. Such are the coddled lives many of us lead in the present day. I only had BB's Date Shake which is soft serve vanilla ice cream & was great tasting a bit like Japanese Azuki Red Bean ice cream with bits of ultra puréed dates where you can sense tiny bits of dates sliding up from the straw. The dried dates gave it a slight taste of caramel as noted by Yelper Jim W. BB may be the last of the old school fast food stands serving date shakes in Indio which is still the center for date production. Shields on Hwy 111 is a good place to get the low down on all things Dates in their informative movie, "Sex Life of the Date". For now 3+ Yelp stars just to sample the nostalgia & the old school ambiance. read more

Everytime I come down to Indio/Coachella, I make sure that I stop by at Burger box before anything else. You can get a Cheeseburger, fries, and a drink for $4.59 It always hits the spot because it so simple that you can taste all of the flavor. If you beer come down here please stop by. It's been here for over 40 years now and it's still going strong. 10/10 would recommend! read more

This is one of the many hidden gems of the Dez that I hesitate to write about but am also very happy and proud to share. This is not a spot with a possible IG background kit picture station with a snazzy neon lit phrase hanging above for folks to post and share. This not a place where you're going to be greeted and treated like a kang, no no but you will eat like one. Burger box does it legit. Tiny old school burgers wrapped in paper, floats and shakes served in styrofoam cups, nuggets stuffed in feel good paper bags, and fried chicken that fills a room with its great stank, all from this little truck stop hot box off the boulevard of Indio's gut. I have wanted to check this little place out for quite a while. Finally stopped by yesterday to take a break from the 10 westbound annoying Saturday traffic. Very easy access. Parking in front and also outdoor seating. I was able to have my dogs sit with me. You order at the front, no indoors. The 2 ladies working were friendly, helpful and efficient. Didn't get (outwardly) annoyed at our questions. I am rating 5 stars because they are perfect as they are, for what they are: a simple, clean, no frills burger place. I was a little disappointed there was no lettuce because I am an able to eat bread, but a suggestion was immediately offered. I got to patties with cheese and pickles between them. The fries they sell are actually huge wedges of potatoes and I was able to use them as "mini buns" for my burger! Also to be noted: CRUNCHY, SLUSHY ICE! Yay!! We paid $20 for 3 meals. I will return :). We met a couple there having an anniversary lunch. They have been eating there for something like 40 years and hope they never change. read more

This place tastes horrible and their customer service is even worse. I tried ordering a burger and shake special, which was supposed to cost 6.99 but they ended up charging me over 11 dollars. However, because they don't charge you until after the food is done cooking, I couldn't just cancel my order. The burger was worse than McDonald's and it started tasting rancid after the first few bites. The hotdogs were also terrible. I don't understand the hype, this place is objectively bad. read more

The Burger Box cheeseburger is similar to McD's, but with a slice of onion and pickles.The fries are half slices of deep fried potatoes and are delicious -- cooked perfectly. The chocolate shake was very good too. The service is as good as you can expect when you have humans working their butts off in the heat. Can't fault them. Love this place, it has been an Indio fixture since the 50's. The food is always fresh and delicious so it's worth the wait. Service is always friendly and do the best they can so since this place always has a line. The ambiance is old school and great, reminds me of my childhood in the LBC getting food with my grandma. This is the most amazing burger spot in the entire valley. This historic landmark is nuzzled right near the railroad tracks: the employees told me that conductors would stop a mile long train just to get burgers from The Burger Box which I think is so cool! The food isn't terrible, but it isn't appetizing. It's a bit below average. You'll have a better experience in McDonald's, sadly. These burgers are not worth waiting outside on during the summer heat. They never added any modern modification to better to customers' experience. The seats are very much noticeable to be there since the opening of the restaurant, which must have been decades. The amount of time, they make you wait for simple meal is non call for. Off of Indio Blv this restaurant has been there for years. I'm astounded by the amount of positive reviews. This place is dirty. Oil is never changed and meat sits out in room temps for too long. Burgers are freshly made with onions, pickles and mustard. Good flavor I would order a couple since there about the size of Mickey D burgers. Burritos are nice (just be carefulll if they are just made) as they will be HOT. Order 2,3,4 or as many as you can eat they are tasty as hell when they are fresh.
