Given the festival atmosphere happening nearby, I expected crowds. Instead, I walked in and had the place entirely to myself. Fantastic! The woman working the counter greeted me right away and had exactly the kind of friendly-but-slightly-snarky personality that I absolutely adore. She made ordering fun without overdoing it, which immediately scored points in my book. After looking over the menu, I kept things relatively simple and ordered a chili cheese dog with onions, no bun, served on a bed of French fries, plus a can of Diet Coke. Total damage: $10.07. When she asked if I wanted the hot dog cut up before everything was assembled together, I enthusiastically accepted. Someone who understands that sometimes food is supposed to be a glorious mess is my kind of person! While waiting for my food, I took a look around. Future visitors should know that indoor seating is extremely limited. There's one high-top table just inside the door and about six barstools along the counter. However, that's not really where this place shines. Outside, there are several picnic tables, plus a beautiful covered side porch with another six to eight tables. If the weather is nice, absolutely plan to eat outside. If the weather isn't cooperating, I'd probably recommend takeout. A few minutes later, my masterpiece was ready. I grabbed my food and drink and headed straight for the covered porch. It was approximately 92 degrees outside with a heat advisory in effect, which most reasonable people would consider a terrible time for an outdoor picnic. I am apparently not most reasonable people. The meal was exactly what I hoped it would be. The chili deserves special recognition because it was actual chili, not the mysterious meat sauce that sometimes masquerades as chili on hot dogs. This stuff had real texture, generous chunks of ground meat, and just enough spice to keep things interesting without setting your face on fire. The diced onions were plentiful, the cheese was perfectly melted, and everything was assembled exactly the way I requested. It was messy. It was delicious. It was absolutely worth eating with a fork. For my first visit, this was a solid win. The food was good, the staff were great, the prices were reasonable and the porch made for a perfect place to sit and enjoy a summer evening. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu! Stumpy's offers several specialty dogs that caught my attention, but I wasn't quite brave enough to try their Strawberry Dog during Strawberry Jam. Maybe next year. Maybe.

They had the full toppings bar with most items you could want on a burger, and several sauce options. Beverages were Coke products, but they did not have Coca-Cola Freestyle's. The medium was delicious and the fries were perfect. My friends chicken strips were fresh and not overly deep-fried, so they took a little longer to be ready. Until one Friday evening, and Friday nights are well-known as Friday Night Date Night so this seemed like serendipity! I saw that AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union was celebrating America's 250th Anniversary by partnering with Lucky Penny Burger Company for a voucher-only community event. Best of all, you didn't even have to be a credit union member to participate. I swung by an AmeriChoice branch, picked up vouchers for my Adventure Buddy and me and suddenly my long-awaited Lucky Penny adventure was officially on the calendar! On a beautiful Friday evening, we headed to the food truck for our weekly Friday Night Date Night. Even though the event was busy, the Lucky Penny crew couldn't have been friendlier. They took our order, answered a couple of questions and had our food ready surprisingly quickly considering the line. For my meal, I ordered the Lucky Penny Burger, swapping cheddar for the standard American cheese. It came topped with bacon, lettuce, crispy fried onions and their signature Lucky Penny sauce. My Adventure Buddy chose the Copperhead Burger, featuring pepper jack cheese, jalapeño popper spread, lettuce and homemade candied jalapeños. For our sides, we split things up. Regular fries for my Adventure Buddy. Garlic Parmesan Fries for me. And let me just say...that upgrade was the correct life decision! The Lucky Penny Burger was fantastic! Everything worked together beautifully, but the real star was the signature Lucky Penny sauce. One thing I found a little odd is that none of the meals come with a drink, which feels unusual for combo meals. The chicken tenders come with dry rub seasoning levels. We tried light, mild and hot flavors. The meals come with a slice of white bread, pickles, and a dipping sauce that tasted like a sweet mayo based sauce (possibly a ketchup/mayo blend). The food itself was fresh, hot, and seemed good quality overall. A couple small issues though. The pickles were placed touching the chicken tenders, which made part of the breading soggy by the time we got home. Also, when we were leaving the store, an employee came out to tell us we had forgotten one of our tenders in the bag. When we got home we also realized one order of fries was missing, so we almost left without a whole tender and did leave without one order of fries. For the amount of food we got (no drinks included), the total was around $29, which felt a little high considering the missing item.
