No decor outside of the Five Guys posters everywhere and bags of the potatoes, which I feel is a clever way to have storage out amongst the customers. So, remember I'm famished, right? First ten toppings = all the way. I got my bacon cheeseburger all the way and it was all the way GOOD. The freshness was resounding. They have Gold Peak tea for those that feel their burger is enough calories on it's own, 4 different choices, as well as the usual soft drinks. Don't believe the hype. Hearing from many people who told me that this place has the best burger's in town. One night, I've decided to try it. I went in around 8 and it was not that busy. It was a pretty simple menu, order any burger with a variety of condiments. Of course, there is no combo meals, so every thing is separate. I've walked out of there with a cheese burger and fries, total cost without a drink around $10. The burger was just OK, nothing great and not worth the $7. I had ordered bacon cheese burger and when i got home the burgers had mushrooms on it. Lucky I checked the burger before eating it because I'm allergic to mushrooms. when I called to have the remake my burger again because of thier error, I was put on hold and when the manager person came on the phone she said they were closing at 7pm and were not going to make the burger again and that I can come back tomorrow to get a new burger. So I called a couple of Five Guys to ask them if they serve Halal Burgers because I heard a rumor that they have halal/kosher burgers. When I can, I prefer to eat Halal/ Kosher meat because I believe it is more healthy and purifying to our digestive track. Most people assume kosher or halal means that it is permissible by their respective religions but the practice of making a meat halal consists of killing through a cut to the jugular vein, carotid artery and windpipe. Which in turns, drains the blood of the animal in a specific type of way. Anyways, I called one Five Guy (not disclosing location but DM me to find out) to ask if the burgers are halal and the employee was like, "what that mean?" I wish I could have recorded the next three Five Guys I spoke to because the responses only got worse. As an employee of Five Guys, you should be knowledgeable when it come to the understanding of the type of meat served by Five Guys. The employees not only represent the company but also the products. Anyways, out of all the places I called, only this location knew to tell me that they do not serve halal or kosher hamburgers but that they do have kosher hot dogs. I appreciated their knowledge and their ability to answer my question quickly and precisely. We ordered two cheeseburgers, regular fries and a Oreo shake. I was drooling over the cheeseburger and the shake. The cheeseburger was SO good- I had grilled onions (finger licking good), tomatoes, lettuce and very well cooked burger meat. If it weren't for the calories, I would have gotten another shake. It was so rich and creamy, I really loved that the Oreo pieces were so big that they got stuck to the straw as you were grabbing a drink. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. Love the peanuts! I had a cheeseburger with Cajun fries, and it was the artery clogging deliciousness I thought it would be. Between the two of us we had two cheeseburgers, a reg fry and 1 drink and it costed $18. A little pricey, but I assume one won't cone here often (heart attack!!!). Walking in, this particular layout reminds me of good 'ol In-N-Out back home, minus the lifetime-supply sacks of potatoes in sight, and the loud music.... oh, and the fun little paper hats they wear! But that is neither here nor there... Anyway... $4.60 for the mini bacon cheeseburger seemed a little steep for me, especially with $3 fries on top of that. But I did like the fact that the burger came with "premium" toppings, whereas most other places would like to charge you 25-50 cents more for say, grilled mushrooms. I waited and waited for this location to open - I walk by it nearly every day, and I sort of stalked it, because I was so excited something new and yummy was coming to my 'hood. Then, finally, it opened. Angels sang. I walked over. And.... Is it wrong that I just didn't love it as much as the Clybourn location? Methinks they are just still working the kinks out. The burger (by god, go for a little burger - it is plenty) was just meh - it wasn't as flavorful as I remembered. Plus they use iceberg lettuce - did I just not notice that before? The fries are also meh and come in hefty portions - definitely split these. I ordered a regular (the smallest size), and as usual they filled the cup and then kept on filling the bag. Let's just say I didn't touch the fries in the cup and there were still plenty left in the bag. Yeah, that's a lot of fries. Service was outstanding - the cashiers were patient with people in line who were new to the concept and kept smiling. Food was ready fairly quickly, and as I waited a sweet older guy wiping down tables came over to wipe down a table I was leaning on. He smiled at me and said, "we like people to be mesmerized when they sit down to eat!" He made me smile. :) The dining room is pretty big, but the place is busy - they do take call/fax orders and have a special spot to pick those up, so try that if you're pressed for time. They are open late on the weekends, so all the drunktards have somewhere to go to soak up the booze.... so that's a plus. After a night of over indulging on the cocktails, I decided to wander down the street for some greasy grub to cure the slight hangover blues. As soon as I walked in I felt like I was in some choreographed commercial. The counter guy was super pleasant, explained the menu to me, warned me about how huge the regular burgers are, etc., he had this spiel down. One of the prep guys chimed in to tell me how excellent the Cajun fries are, so I had to get them, of course. I also had a cheeseburger with jalapenos for a little kick. The grub was decent. I dont eat very much red meat so I am no expert, but this hamburger was better than the average fast food joint's. I suppose I would go there again if I had a hankering. Thanks to my mom, I'm a burger and fries kinda gal. I mean, come on, who doesn't appreciate a great burger!? After hearing all about the hype of 5 Guys, I decided to check it out for myself. I came here on a Wednesday night, about 6ish, and there was really no wait. Order the junior cheeseburger, with a order of fries. Got my number, got my coke (cause, let's face it, burger+fries=have to get a coke!), and waited for my number to be called. Cheeseburger was good, and the fries were enough to feed an army!! wow!! Why the 3-star review, I think it's just a little too pricey. Although, it is worth it being everything is made fresh, from fresh ingredients. I'll be back, just not on a regular basis. I feel like I must be the only person on the entire planet who had never heard of Five Guys before they popped up on the corner of Clark and Fullerton. And I feel like because of that, my review seems more negative than others, because I do not have a prior history with the chain. That being said, the food is mediocre at best. They have very large portions (and very large prices to match) of mediocre ingredients with a great topping list. The fries are the thick, soggy type. So if you like that, you're golden. If not, these are some of the worst soggy fries I have ever had, so save your $3. The burger were definitely better than the fries if surprisingly flavorless even with all the toppings. I like the free peanuts and I appreciate the effort they make to keep the peanuts inside the restaurant for safety's sake. I think it's probably a hopeless cause though. They have a very, very large staff at the moment, but it still takes 10 - 12 minutes to get your burger. I think that is pretty excessive, but maybe they're still training? Overall, it seems like the kind of place you love if you grew up on it, but if you didn't you just ask why there are so many damn signs lauding their food?! read more

So the menu only has like, 8 things on it. Four are "regular burgers" and four are "little burgers". The difference here is that "regular" burgers have TWO patties. And "little" burgers have one. I was not aware of this and was NOT prepared for the monstrosity that was handed to me. That said, it was a DAMN good burger. And OMG there are crayons and paper because nothing says awesome like coloring while eating a burger the size of your face. This place only gets three stars because a regular bacon cheeseburger and a drink was like, $10. And for $10, I could buy some Kraft singles, ground beef, and bacon. And! Five guys strikes me a great compromise between the all-too-familiar fast food burger joints, and the $12.00 gastropub burgers. Price-wise, it's right in between. For $6.49 at a Wendy's, you probably get the whole meal with fries and drink. Here, you get a two-patty half-pounder which included your choice of many toppings or condiments. But everything else is "a la carte." Two of these big burgers, a shared large order of fries and two bottled waters ran about $23.00. Not too bad, but I was expecting less than $10.00 per person, not knowing what else to expect. The place is clean. The staff is friendly, and the service not so fast. That said, the burgers and fries were very old-fashioned delicious. With this style of burger, there is no deciding on rare to well-done. They're just all prepared the same way, as they would have been in an old burger joint. There is the choice of a 1/4 pound burger, too. But I think I'd always want that half-pounder myself. All the topping choices add some fun to the experience, not to mention the flavor of the burger. We were topping piggies.We pounded down those burgers in that no-frills eat off the wrapper ambiance, wiped our mouths with the single paper napkins, and savored the fresh and tasty fries dipped in ketchup. I was delighted to find out that the day's potatoes were from Sugar City, Idaho. I put a note in my calendar to drive there and thank the potato growers. The fries at Five Guys are greasy and delicious and abundant. They fill up that little bag so much that it spills into the paper bag. I couldn't even finish them. The burger, however, left something to be desired. I ordered a Little Bacon Cheeseburger. It was almost five bucks and the patty was so small I could barely taste it. The saving grace was that the condiments were free and you can stack them up as much as you want. Theoretically you can pile it all on until your burger reaches for the heavens like the Tower of Babel and it will still be less than $5. I piled on the lettuce, tomato, pickle and barbecue sauce, but the taste of the burger wasn't really that much better than Wendy's. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty, just not that special. The atmosphere was simple, red and white tile, potato bags that I was tempted stand on and run along the stack. The food was quick and I ate it accompanied by loud oldies music, reading all the newspaper articles framed along the walls and the bulletin board covered in crayon drawings created by little kids proclaiming that Five Guys is better than McDonalds, which is true. I'm still not seeing the hype with Five Guys. It's not bad or anything, but I basically look at it as Wendy's plus five bucks. The free peanuts are nice, but I'm not taking time to shell peanuts after more than three drinks. They do have good hours--i.e., they're open late, but this isn't as big a factor as it would have been a decade ago. There are plenty of late night burrito spots, for example, that seemingly don't ever close. They get a nod for good fries, which come by the boatload, as well as a digital pop machine and good late hours. I think there are better options, though. read more

First time to check to see if they have milkshakes (they don't) and the second time to get a burger and fries. I think that the burger and fries were ok (not awesome), but M complained about them the whole freakin' time. I think that there are definitely better places to get burgers. The space had lots of chairs and tables. I won't comment on the cleanliness because they were cleaning while we were there. I guess my review can easily be summed up with one phrase: "What is all the fuss about?" I can't tell you the answer to that. The burger was just OK and the fries were good. I do have to say though that I am used to getting some fries with my burger... not a burger to the side of my massive amount of fries. Come on, they were good but I didn't need that many of them. The customer service was a bit lacking. "What do you want?" is just a bit more aggressive than "Can I help you?" or "What can I get for you?" But hey, maybe I expect too much nowadays... And what fast-food-esque burger place doesn't have a combo menu? A "LITTLE burger" with fries and a drink cost me 10 dollars because everything was listed separately on the menu. Long & behold, I finally worked up the courage to enter Five Guys. Having heard the legend of their heart-attack worthy burgers, mountain of cajun fries, and unlimited supply of pop you can consume.... I've decided 4days of workout @ the gym justifies for its cheeseburger. Firstly, I was grateful for the lack of queuing out the door. After all, there was a 45min to 1 hr wait for this join when it first opened! I've held out long enough that on a Sat afternoon (~4pm), there were only a handful of people + 2 person ahead of me in line. At the counter, I was confronted with a dilemma - should I go all-in or chicken out with just a couple of toppings? I decided to skim on the sauces (A1 + honey mustard + ketchup? ew!) and only got the A1 sauce, with all of the other trimmings =D Brought my sisters in for support and we each got a burger! It worked out to around $26 for 3 people, which is a bit pricy but I figured the burger will more than make-up for it. After a short 15min wait, we got our burgers. They were juicy, pumped out between the 2 buns with double-patties and all of our toppings! The fries were frighteningly HUGE - you know how you get a small / big cup for the fries? Well, if you order their "large" fries, you will get 2 large + 2 small cups worth of fries... I am not kidding you! We were honestly buried in a mountain of fries....! The burgers were a-ok, not particularly juicy and the toppings just average. For the price & heart-attack value though, I think Burger King actually fill my cravings more! Visited yesterday and will most definitely be returning. Although their burger options don't beat Hamburger Mary's, they're still the best in the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area. The clincher for me is that the place isn't pretentious in the least, plus service is very fast while the food quality is excellent. Be aware if ordering for the first time that if you get what they call a 'hamburger', it's actually going to come out with two patties and be around 5" thick, gooey, and (if specified) absolutely laden with extras like mushrooms, onion, tomato, lettuce and condiments for no extra charge (so take that, Counter Burger!). You can order the smaller version (I think it's called a Jr. or a Little or something diminutive) that has one patty, which I'd really recommend if you're not absolutely starving to death. Also, the order of large fries is big enough for two people, and you get free refills - so no need to order a large drink if you're staying there to chow down. As far as price goes, between two people we spent $20 on 2 large drinks (with free refills), 2 (ridiculously large, and dressed all-the-way) double cheeseburgers, and a large order of fries, plus free peanuts while we waited for our order to come up. If we had ordered smaller drinks, regular cheeseburgers, and a small fry to share, it would have still been more than enough to eat and would have been right on par price-wise with every other grill in the area, except for the fact that in flavor and quality of ingredients, Five Guys has all of the local competition clearly beat. read more
