I really wanted to like this place as I was pretty hyped up from the positive reviews. Unfortunately, it was a total let down for me. To start, it seems that recent reviews have been a little more rocky due to new management? I should've done deeper research, but let the 4 almost 5 star rating fool me. When my boyfriend and I stopped by at 6:30pm the dining area was completely empty. I ordered the falafel bowl (with sides of onion, lettuce, cucumber, and banana peppers). I also made my bowl a combo for an extra $4.75, which would give me fries and a drink as well. My boyfriend ordered a chicken special. This is actually what originally caught our attention, a flyer posted on the window of a chicken platter special for $12.99. We were originally on our way to a different spot for dinner and spontaneously switched gears upon getting drawn in by this advertisement. The food took about 15 minutes and everything seemed fresh made to order. There was only one worker behind the counter, who was in charge of cooking and taking the orders. It's a self order establishment, so there's no table side service. To start, neither of our plates looked anything like the pictures. Especially my boyfriend's platter. My "bowl" was essentially 90% rice, with a tablespoon of each side I chose. My meal was also missing the fries I ordered and when we inquired about them, the worker claimed we never ordered fries. We had to further explain we made my bowl a combo. By no means was he rude and after a brief back and forth he admitted he made a mistake and rushed to cook the fries immediately. This took about 5 minutes. The bowl itself was underwhelming. The falafel balls themselves were moist and star of the plate, but lacking in much flavor. The rice was also bland and the sides were so minuscule in comparison to the rice ratio. The white tahini sauce drizzled on top was also flavorless. Halfway through my meal I realized I was missing the hummus that it was supposed to come with. When I inquired about this, the worker claimed my bowl did not come with hummus despite it clearly stating "all bowls served with basmati/lentil rice, hummus, up to 4 toppings, and pita bread). He informed me that since I got lettuce, onions, cucumbers, and banana peppers I used up my four sides and wouldn't get hummus and said I would have to order hummus as one of my sides. So, they should probably take off hummus from the listed ingredients as this is misleading. I felt this was poorly indicated by the menu. He was kind enough to just give me a cup of hummus for "free" and said it would've otherwise been an additional $0.75. After tasting it, I was probably better off not asking for it in the first place. Again, totally bland and devoid of any flavor. It just tasted like mush with a hint of chickpea flavor. If they make this in house they do not use an ounce of seasoning for it. I want to also add that I do not know the difference between a platter and a bowl. As under platter it still lists "all bowls...." information. I felt my "bowl" was more of a platter. As for my boyfriend's special platter. The chicken was dry, but wasn't flavorless. The chicken was well spiced, which was a pleasant surprise in comparison to everything else. The fries were standard restaurant style fries. I would say the sauce selection was lacking and poor. In my experience usually these types of plates come with sauce, which I think would've really help combat the lack of flavor and dry chicken. As we dined, no other dine in customers joined us, so it was pretty quiet with some background music playing. It seems this place makes most of its business off of take out. Also random side note as we were wrapping up, I noticed these manicure scissors wedged in one of the dining chairs. The place looked clean, but this was off putting. I'm not sure why or how my experience differed so vastly from the majority of people who seemed to enjoy this place. Everything was edible, but I will definitely NOT be recommending or returning.

Delicious food, big portions, and reasonable prices. We ordered takeout and were pleasantly surprised by the large portions and unique toppings we could add to our bowls like the grape leaves and hot giardiniera. The baba ghanouj was so delicious and was a great addition to my bowl. I also love how the bowls come with a pita. Can't wait to go try out the food at the restaurant!

Varied selection of food - sandwich, pita, platter, kabobs, salads, rice bowls. Mediterranean food served with Chipotle model of being able to pick the toppings to go with your selected protein (chicken, steak kabobs, lamb, falafel.). They have 4 tables for 4 to eat inside, but many picked up or ordered to go. We found the food tasty, and fresh. Great alternative to fast food. It appears to be family owned but not sure. The staff was friendly, and patient with questions about options. I had the falafel bowl, and my husband had they gyro. See pictures. Both were excellent and everything was fresh. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Falafel platter, hummus, baklava cheesecake and lentil soup.

In typical fashion I ordered a bunch of random side items a la carte, while my husband ordered the falafel platter. The falafel are huge balls (ha!) which are fried to perfection, and come with a side of tahini for dipping. The lentil soup was good, but I've had better if I'm being an honest Yelper. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad, just a little lacking. The hummus, on the other hand, is probably one of the best I've had. Super creamy and tasty!!! Last the impulse buy: baklava cheesecake. Soo delish - not too rich or sweet but certainly satisfied the sweet tooth. Great local family owned place, serving up fresh (like the name!) and yummy food. Can't wait to try some of their other offerings, including the shawarma.

FIVE STARS HANDS DOWN. Absolutely outstanding food. The Jordanian owner cooks the food himself and does so with extreme precision. If you're in a hurry call ahead and pickup - unless you want it uber fresh then wait and you'll be pleasantly surprised. A friend treated myself and another friend to sandwiches. I got the falafel sandwich and it was devine. The owner even threw in a comped lentil soup to try and it was a little on the chunky side but loved it! Friend got the beef kifta sandwich and he was super impressed as well. Outstanding food and if you have to wait a short while for it; it's absolutely DELISH! THANK YOU!

I cannot believe I haven't already written a review for Oasis Fresh. It's truly a gem in the community. I was always very meh about Mediterranean food- just never really liked it much. But one trip to Oasis Fresh (unwillingly) completely changed my world. I think I went back every week for a month after my first visit.. Food is fresh, consistent, so so so well-seasoned. Staff is always warm and accommodating. I'm obsessed with the chicken shawarma with basmati rice platter and it's a plus that the serving size is big enough for two meals. Long story short, if you like Mediterranean food at all- or even if you don't, just go and try it. You can thank me later.

Oasis fresh is best in town for their food n customer service. Everything is freshly made. Highly recommended

3 Pieces Falafel with Tahini Sauce and steak shawarma

My friends discovered this place early last year, and on their recommendation, I tried it. I am picky with my Mediterranean food, but I am so glad I tried this place. I cannot believe I had been living so close to there for so long and not gone in, but I am a frequent customer now. Everything I have tried has been delicious. I have had the chicken shawarma, falafel with tahini sauce, and baklava for my first order. I was very impressed -- the price is amazing, the food was fresh and well seasoned, and the portions are large, so you basically get two meals. After that I've had the falafel sandwich, the beef and gyro platter, and the best meal there (in my opinion), the steak shawarma. My go to order is the steak shawarma and falafels with tahini sauce. Everything is delicious, and I especially like that you can choose how the steak is cooked (I usually get it medium). It's been tasty each time. The restaurant itself is nice and charming, and it's almost a little hole in the wall place, and it's an absolute gem. It's very clean, and staff is always kind and accommodating. To top it off, the prices are fantastic, especially for the area. It's pretty cheap in comparison to a lot of places in Lakeview/Lincoln Park, and you get two meals out of one order. I'll be a frequent customer for years to come!

They also have a few cheaper lunch specials. Had to get the Falafel Platter. This is the place's signature item after all, so it had to be good, and it was. I came with eight pieces of falafel. Quite a lot for a platter at this price. Lots of good ass stuff on here. There was hummus, Jerusalem salad, pitas, and rice. Falafel is the main thing it seems, but there's actually plenty more. There's side items like salads and soups. Have to make a return trip over here some time and get some more of the falafel and some other items. It's the best at lunch when there's some specials. There's more than just falafel, with a few meaty choices, and lots of choices for vegans and vegetarians.

What are the odds one restaurant can be a serious contender for the best falafel AND the best burgers in town? I've been there a few times and I'm in love with the ka'ak patty melt burger. Its not only melted cheese and grilled onions. It's bacon and jalapeño and za'ater mayonnaise. And it's two burgers. Served on an amazing sesame loaf. We split it and fries (also delicious with za'atar seasoning) and that was plenty.. But the onion burger is also pretty great. And you have to get the falafel. Also the onion rings. We were talking to this dude with his girl and he was from Italy and he seemed to have enjoyed his burger as well. We get double protein as much as possible as we're big eaters and the double pattie OK smash cheeseburger was excellent. The Ragadan salad was different with kale and it was pretty good (bright, fresh, and colorful) with extra kefta beef patties. This year I was so excited to bring my family and Ema was the only restaurant in Chicago I couldn't wait for them to try. I booked it as our final meal in Chicago and lay awake at 4am being so disappointed in my choice. Our server's greeting was monotone and emotionless, which I realize now, would be foreshadowing the meal to come. Ordered the following 1) Smoky eggplant- arrived appearing as an unappetizing curdled purple grey mush. This was the worst tasting baba ghanouj I have ever eaten. It was acidic and had the texture of cottage cheese. The only redeeming thing about this appetizer was the warm naan. 2) house made stratciatella with side of green falafels- The stratciatella was bland and stringy. I would not order this dish expecting the creamy interior of typical burrata. However, if you like string cheese mixed with heavy cream- you may enjoy this dish. The tomatoes and basil were good. 3) chicken kefta- kefta was bland, rice even blander . 4) short rib with polenta- bland and the meat and polenta had the same texture, which seems impossible but somehow the plating was over complicated by the addition of mushy dates and grapes. 5) buttered noodles- my 8 year old ordered this. It was decent with a good amount of Parmesan and cooked perfectly al dente. By the end of the meal, I was so shocked by how terrible the food was I didn't even want to order the sticky date cake that was my main purpose for returning to this restaurant. Between the two, I prefer Cava for both the wider selection and seemingly higher quality. That said, my experiences at Naf Naf with both the food and the service have been hit or miss. Sometimes, the service is perfectly pleasant for a fast-casual eatery, but at other times, I've found it rude and unfriendly. As for the food, I feel the quality of the veggies, meats, and other ingredients is fine, but nothing to write home about. However, I think one issue with piling on too many ingredients is that too much liquid seeps into the bowl, which interferes with the overall experience. It's worth mentioning that even though I do go overboard at Cava, I've never encountered this issue there. Finally, while Naf Naf isn't the cheapest place around, considering the downtown location and portion sizes, I feel the prices are reasonable. Final verdict: Naf Naf Grill is a solid, respectable choice for a healthy-ish, reasonably priced lunch.
