    Grape Leaves (6) Starters
    Marian X.

Ordered once from Oasis, the food was alright, not overly amazing. Grape Leaves: first time trying this, I didn't expect this to be a cold dish. I loved and enjoyed my first few bites, but couldn't finish the rest. I love sour things, but this was REALLY sour. Sour + cold was just not right for me. Grilled Shrimp platter with extra chicken: the portion was big and came with large amount of ordered proteins. The grilled shrimp and chicken were perfectly seasoned. The hummus was nice and warm which went well with the warmed pita bread. The salad was refreshing. Baba Ghanouj: I ordered a small and the portion was huge! It is a cold spread, but still paired well with the pita bread. This is also very sour, especially near the end. This is good, but not the best I had. Hummus: ordered a small hummus with pita bread (starter), it came cold unlike the warmed hummus in the platters. Cold hummus didn't taste as enjoyable and delicious as the warmed hummus. I'm not sure how this is served for dine-in, but it would be great if this spread can be served warmed (or have the option to be warmed). Overall, this place gave me a lot of surprises. Affordable pricing for a standard Mediterranean meal. The packing for my order was kind of rough, could be improved.

I really wanted to like this place as I was pretty hyped up from the positive reviews. Unfortunately, it was a total let down for me. To start, it seems that recent reviews have been a little more rocky due to new management? I should've done deeper research, but let the 4 almost 5 star rating fool me. When my boyfriend and I stopped by at 6:30pm the dining area was completely empty. I ordered the falafel bowl (with sides of onion, lettuce, cucumber, and banana peppers). I also made my bowl a combo for an extra $4.75, which would give me fries and a drink as well. My boyfriend ordered a chicken special. This is actually what originally caught our attention, a flyer posted on the window of a chicken platter special for $12.99. We were originally on our way to a different spot for dinner and spontaneously switched gears upon getting drawn in by this advertisement. The food took about 15 minutes and everything seemed fresh made to order. There was only one worker behind the counter, who was in charge of cooking and taking the orders. It's a self order establishment, so there's no table side service. To start, neither of our plates looked anything like the pictures. Especially my boyfriend's platter. My "bowl" was essentially 90% rice, with a tablespoon of each side I chose. My meal was also missing the fries I ordered and when we inquired about them, the worker claimed we never ordered fries. We had to further explain we made my bowl a combo. By no means was he rude and after a brief back and forth he admitted he made a mistake and rushed to cook the fries immediately. This took about 5 minutes. The bowl itself was underwhelming. The falafel balls themselves were moist and star of the plate, but lacking in much flavor. The rice was also bland and the sides were so minuscule in comparison to the rice ratio. The white tahini sauce drizzled on top was also flavorless. Halfway through my meal I realized I was missing the hummus that it was supposed to come with. When I inquired about this, the worker claimed my bowl did not come with hummus despite it clearly stating "all bowls served with basmati/lentil rice, hummus, up to 4 toppings, and pita bread). He informed me that since I got lettuce, onions, cucumbers, and banana peppers I used up my four sides and wouldn't get hummus and said I would have to order hummus as one of my sides. So, they should probably take off hummus from the listed ingredients as this is misleading. I felt this was poorly indicated by the menu. He was kind enough to just give me a cup of hummus for "free" and said it would've otherwise been an additional $0.75. After tasting it, I was probably better off not asking for it in the first place. Again, totally bland and devoid of any flavor. It just tasted like mush with a hint of chickpea flavor. If they make this in house they do not use an ounce of seasoning for it. I want to also add that I do not know the difference between a platter and a bowl. As under platter it still lists "all bowls...." information. I felt my "bowl" was more of a platter. As for my boyfriend's special platter. The chicken was dry, but wasn't flavorless. The chicken was well spiced, which was a pleasant surprise in comparison to everything else. The fries were standard restaurant style fries. I would say the sauce selection was lacking and poor. In my experience usually these types of plates come with sauce, which I think would've really help combat the lack of flavor and dry chicken. As we dined, no other dine in customers joined us, so it was pretty quiet with some background music playing. It seems this place makes most of its business off of take out. Also random side note as we were wrapping up, I noticed these manicure scissors wedged in one of the dining chairs. The place looked clean, but this was off putting. I'm not sure why or how my experience differed so vastly from the majority of people who seemed to enjoy this place. Everything was edible, but I will definitely NOT be recommending or returning.

    Falafel Bowl Bowls

Delicious food, big portions, and reasonable prices. We ordered takeout and were pleasantly surprised by the large portions and unique toppings we could add to our bowls like the grape leaves and hot giardiniera. The baba ghanouj was so delicious and was a great addition to my bowl. I also love how the bowls come with a pita. Can't wait to go try out the food at the restaurant!

Varied selection of food - sandwich, pita, platter, kabobs, salads, rice bowls. Mediterranean food served with Chipotle model of being able to pick the toppings to go with your selected protein (chicken, steak kabobs, lamb, falafel.). They have 4 tables for 4 to eat inside, but many picked up or ordered to go. We found the food tasty, and fresh. Great alternative to fast food. It appears to be family owned but not sure. The staff was friendly, and patient with questions about options. I had the falafel bowl, and my husband had they gyro. See pictures. Both were excellent and everything was fresh. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Falafel platter, hummus, baklava cheesecake and lentil soup.

In typical fashion I ordered a bunch of random side items a la carte, while my husband ordered the falafel platter. The falafel are huge balls (ha!) which are fried to perfection, and come with a side of tahini for dipping. The lentil soup was good, but I've had better if I'm being an honest Yelper. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad, just a little lacking. The hummus, on the other hand, is probably one of the best I've had. Super creamy and tasty!!! Last the impulse buy: baklava cheesecake. Soo delish - not too rich or sweet but certainly satisfied the sweet tooth. Great local family owned place, serving up fresh (like the name!) and yummy food. Can't wait to try some of their other offerings, including the shawarma.

I cannot believe I haven't already written a review for Oasis Fresh. It's truly a gem in the community. I was always very meh about Mediterranean food- just never really liked it much. But one trip to Oasis Fresh (unwillingly) completely changed my world. I think I went back every week for a month after my first visit.. Food is fresh, consistent, so so so well-seasoned. Staff is always warm and accommodating. I'm obsessed with the chicken shawarma with basmati rice platter and it's a plus that the serving size is big enough for two meals. Long story short, if you like Mediterranean food at all- or even if you don't, just go and try it. You can thank me later.

3 Pieces Falafel with Tahini Sauce and steak shawarma
    Liz M.

My friends discovered this place early last year, and on their recommendation, I tried it. I am picky with my Mediterranean food, but I am so glad I tried this place. I cannot believe I had been living so close to there for so long and not gone in, but I am a frequent customer now. Everything I have tried has been delicious. I have had the chicken shawarma, falafel with tahini sauce, and baklava for my first order. I was very impressed -- the price is amazing, the food was fresh and well seasoned, and the portions are large, so you basically get two meals. After that I've had the falafel sandwich, the beef and gyro platter, and the best meal there (in my opinion), the steak shawarma. My go to order is the steak shawarma and falafels with tahini sauce. Everything is delicious, and I especially like that you can choose how the steak is cooked (I usually get it medium). It's been tasty each time. The restaurant itself is nice and charming, and it's almost a little hole in the wall place, and it's an absolute gem. It's very clean, and staff is always kind and accommodating. To top it off, the prices are fantastic, especially for the area. It's pretty cheap in comparison to a lot of places in Lakeview/Lincoln Park, and you get two meals out of one order. I'll be a frequent customer for years to come!

We were walking across the street and wanted to have a quick bite. Everything in this place is perfect. Food, Service, Quantity and Ambiance all of it. We ordered two Sandwiches and the cook with a great humor made our food awesome. Loves it. Do not miss this place if you are around. We will be back.

Though unassuming on the outside, this place serves yummy Lebanese food at high ROI. Of the two shawarma plates I tried, I fancy the beef, but I tend to lean beef. The chicken was clean and flavorful. The hummus is creamy and delicious and the plates are served with a balsamic fresh salad on the side. Whether I'm grabbing a quick lunch or stopping in for dinner, the food has always been fresh, the service has been welcoming, and the overall experience has never disappointed. My order rarely changes because the patty melt is just that good. The burger is perfectly cooked with a flavorful sear, topped with melty cheese and caramelized onions that add just the right amount of sweetness. Everything comes together on a toasted sesame bun that's crisp on the outside while still soft enough to hold everything together. It's rich without being overly heavy, and every bite reminds me why I haven't felt the need to order anything else. The fries are equally deserving of praise. They're consistently served hot, crispy, and well-seasoned, with a fluffy interior that makes them impossible to stop eating. They taste like they're made fresh to order, and they're the perfect complement to the patty melt. I always tell myself I'll save a few for later, but that never seems to happen. Beyond the food, the staff has always been friendly, patient, and genuinely appreciative of their customers, which keeps me coming back just as much as the food. It's also in a convenient Uptown location that's easy to get to, making it a great option whether you're a local or just exploring the neighborhood. One thing I really appreciate is that Ragadan doesn't feel like it's chasing trends. Instead, it focuses on making high-quality food with unique Jordanian-inspired influences while still delivering familiar comfort food that anyone can enjoy. It's the kind of independent restaurant that's worth supporting because they consistently get the fundamentals right. Between the two, I prefer Cava for both the wider selection and seemingly higher quality. Before I get into the meat of the review, a word of caution: One of the keys to enjoying Naf Naf is not overdoing it by adding everything to your bowl. That said, my experiences at Naf Naf with both the food and the service have been hit or miss. Sometimes, the service is perfectly pleasant for a fast-casual eatery, but at other times, I've found it rude and unfriendly. As for the food, I feel the quality of the veggies, meats, and other ingredients is fine, but nothing to write home about. However, I think one issue with piling on too many ingredients is that too much liquid seeps into the bowl, which interferes with the overall experience. It's worth mentioning that even though I do go overboard at Cava, I've never encountered this issue there. Finally, while Naf Naf isn't the cheapest place around, considering the downtown location and portion sizes, I feel the prices are reasonable. Final verdict: Naf Naf Grill is a solid, respectable choice for a healthy-ish, reasonably priced lunch. At the same time, I feel there is room for improvement, and there are places within a five-minute walk that outperform it.
