AMAZING.... and nothing less. My girlfriend and I come here at least once a week because of the customer service alone! The customer service is by far the best I have received in awhile! Not once... twice... but every time we come to Five Guys we are always greeted. The people behind the register actually seem like they want to be at work. They have a smile and are very patient. They truly go above and beyond. Being in the customer service industry I make sure to only go to companies and places that at least give out the minimum customer service. Which even that is hard to find these days. However, Five Guys here in Burlingame destroys that bad juju and goes way over the top. In the battle of fast food burger joints, this one is a strong contender. They have a laundry list of toppings which can be added regular, lite or extra to their double patty burgers. I tend to go with the little burger (single patty) with bacon, lite bbq sauce and grilled mushrooms. The drink machine here is a trip - had no idea I could flavor my coke zero in so many ways. This review is solely for the Cajun fries, because that's pretty much the only thing I ever get at a Five Guys. I stopped by here with Mr. Piano because he had never had Cajun fries before, and I mentioned this to the register--he said he'd make them "extra special" for him, which I think meant extra seasoning :P Of course, I loved that, but Mr. Piano has low spice tolerance, so that didn't work out so well for him. (More fries for me? LOL!) The fries here are good, but I think they weren't as crisp on the outside as my usual Five Guys, and for some reason the soda machine here completely baffled all four customers who were there at the time (but we did eventually figure it out). I recently ordered here 3 times within the past week after not having been back in over 2 years. This was a great way to see how they measure up on a consistent basis to see if I would place them back in my rotation. My first visit last week I ordered in store. There were 4 young men working and they acted as though they were short staffed. It was a weekend. They appeared to be behind in their orders and I watched as several orders were backed up on the table either waiting to be wrapped or for burgers to be done. Fries tended to come out a bit slow and for most of the staff there seemed to be no sense of urgency to get the orders completed and customers out the door. I ended up waiting about 30 minutes for my burger and fries. My second visit I ordered on-line with the hopes of not having to wait so long for my dinner. From my last visit I decided it wasn't as bad as I remembered and tried to change some things with my order. When I arrived to pick up my food it was ready and they placed fresh fries in my bag. Much better experience, different staff was there, and all was fine. My third visit was ordered through their iOS app. I waited about the same time as my on-line order before heading in but this time my order wasn't ready. Just like my first visit a few days earlier they seemed to be backed up and I watched as certain items which were prepped and ready to be wrapped seemed to be dieing on the table. I watched items sit there for at least 5 minutes before they were wrapped by the next person. I watched in eager anticipation as a patty slowly started to slide from it's perch waiting for it to hit the floor but alas it never did. After standing there for about 4 minutes the grill guy asked which order was mine and confirmed it was coming up shortly. Again, they appeared to be short staffed with no sense of urgency. The first two visits my food was prepared correctly and I was actually pleasantly surprised by them. The third visit my burger was missing items I requested and not prepared properly (ordered grilled jalapeño's but received fresh ones). I also ordered a hot dog this time (which tasted horrible) and they must have been out of hot dog buns because it came on a burger bun. The food here is just 'meh or ok. I'm not a fan of the fries and it tasted like they needed to change the oil. From having worked in similar environments in my younger years I feel they would be better off employing a manager or assistant manger to be there at all times directing traffic and ensuring things are handled properly and efficiently. I'm so glad they finally brought a Five Guys here. Its been in Fremont and Hayward for awhile I believe but not all of us can afford the bridge toll just for some delicous five guys. Now they're finally on this side of the bay!! Everytime I come here I either get the deluxe burger (double patties Yummm) or just he small chesseburger. Burgers are around $5 but worth it. No fast food burger chain even can compare to the quality of the buns and meat of Five Guys. So glad this East Coast chain can finally make it here to the West Coast. read more

This establishment does not even deserve one star. Came in half and hour before closing, ordered a burger and a grilled cheese, asked for fries but was told they were out. Twenty minutes go by with no food. We ask about the food, they say it's not ready yet. We watch several more people who were in line after us receive their meals, WITH FRIES, we can literally see the fries in the kitchen but they won't let us have any. Thirty minutes later they finally give us our food. While all this was happening I noticed the entire floor is covered in peanut shells and of course the incompetent staff has been chatting it up and taking their time in the kitchen. They also have the soda machines here that have hella flavors, I wasn't expecting that but it's a cool plus if you want something other than the normal fountain drinks that they have at fast food places. Responding back to me when I had questions about the menu with an attitude as if I did something to her. Then when my boyfriend and I were eating she was cleaning the lobby mumbling things out of frustration under her breath. Almost as if she was upset that she had to clean the lobby. Please teach your employees, especially if they're the ones speaking with customers, how to be articulate & respectful when customers are coming into their place. Wow, I liked it a lot more than I expected. Been wanting to try Five Guys for the longest time. Since my favorite haircut guy is in Burlingame, I was searching Yelp this morning for a good place to have a late lunch afterwards and was happy to hear that their newest location had just opened in Burlingame. Upon walking in, was disappointed that there was no bathroom, but found out after ordering that there is indeed a nice detached bathroom outside and to the left. The free peanuts were a nice touch, but nothing like the fun bars I've been to in Texas and Arkansas as well as across the nation where people go wild with the shells. As always, timing is everything and since I went later in the day, I missed the crazy lunch rush that everyone is talking about. By 2:00PM, I had totally missed the lunch rush. As always, Yelp was most helpful going in since I already knew that a (regular) burger was two patties and what they call a Little burger has only one patty. I went ahead and ordered a Cheeseburger with two patties ($6.69) with bacon, no veggies. I also ordered fries ($2.89) and a medium soda ($2.19). Total with tax came out to $12.75. I don't always put pricing into my reviews, but hey, it's fast fast food so cost is more of a factor than usual. The young girl who helped me was really nice and pleasant. Sharp and efficient too, she was great! While waiting for my food, I had a chance to use of one their two high tech soda machines and was confused for a second until I pushed the Diet Coke icon on the screen. All of a sudden, a bunch of Diet Coke icons popped up...Diet Coke w/ Vanilla, Diet Coke w/Cherry, Diet Coke w/ Cherry Vanilla, Diet Coke w/ Lime, the choices went on and on and that's just under the Diet Coke heading! If this is a glimpe of the future to come, the future looks bright! When my number was called, I was happy to see that my burger in wrapper looked taller (no veggies, remember?) than I expected and that both the burger and the fries were piping hot. Both were almost too hot to hold...a first for me in any burger place, especially fast food. A really good sign! As always, your mileage may vary. The fries themselves were good and perfectly cooked with a flavor reminiscent of the Kennebec potatoes used by the better burger places and In & Out. I wasn't in the mood for spicy today, so didn't have the Cajun fries this time, but will try them next time for sure. Seen mixed reviews for those, some rave about them while others say they are too spicy. Anyway, the portion of fries that I received was huge, way overflowing the cup into the bag...that was a lot of fries. I was impressed. I think the key to these kind of fries is to eat them hot. After cooling, I don't think they would have been nearly as good although that's true with most fries. As for the burger, it was really good! No complaints at all, although if I really wanted to be picky, it could have been cooked a touch less, but otherwise real good and size-wise, imminently more appealing than the little burgers at In & Out. Nice, tall, big double burger with good cheese and once again, just like with the fries earlier, a generous amount of crispy bacon. Nicely done! I actually enjoyed it, way more than I had expected to after reading some reviews beforehand. Fast food burgers are a funny, highly subjective thing. Half the people seem to go crazy over the goodness of In & Out burgers, while the other half just can't understand what the fuss is all about. The main thing to ask oneself is...did it taste good, was it satisfying, and most important of all, did it make you happy? For me, this visit was all of the above. Obviously, I am reviewing this as a fast food burger and not as a high end restaurant burger (Comparing a foil-wrapped fast food burger to a burger with foie gras and truffle sauce is not a fair comparison), but all in all, I was pretty happy with my meal. It's all about expectations. As for those crazy peanuts, I was too full afterwards and ended up taking that little paper tray of them home. As I drove off, full and satisfied, I peeked into Burger Joint just down the street. Perhaps it was the late hour, but was surprised that I could see only one person in there on the customer side of the counter and almost felt sorry for them. That was really something. I'm sure it's far more crowded at noon though and am curious to see how they both fare after the newness of Five Guys wears off. God help me, I'm a Five Guys fan! The first time I tried them in St. Louis, they were hyped up to be the best burger ever. Not exactly sure what I was expecting, but it was just OK. Fast forward a few years... gave them another shot 'cause they're within walking distance from my house. Color me impressed! A few pointers that make the experience much more enjoyable: 1) Don't come here during peak hours, especially on Saturdays. Full of screaming kids and there's nowhere to sit. 2) Even a normal appetite can be satisfied with the smaller hamburger or cheeseburger. And consider sharing a regular sized fry - more than enough food for two people! 3) The digital soda machine is bomb. Gives you the opportunity to try a new flavor every single visit. 4) Steer clear of the complimentary peanuts unless you're really, really hungry. The D.C. based burger chain has finally came to Burlingame. I came in on the opening day and the line was a solid 10 to 15 minutes which was okay but hopefully it will die down after the hype is over. I didn't think the burger was all that great, in fact, I thought In-n-Out was a lot better. The meat was cooked well, and the fries were just okay. I like the concept that they hand-cut their french fries but they were lacking in taste all around. The burger itself was a little sloppy because they jam pack it with all the fixings. Overall, I might come back. Just an FYI, a Five Guys cheeseburger has about 840 calories and around 55 grams of fat. A cheeseburger at In-n-out has almost half the calories less than FG. As you can see, FG & In-n-Out is not the place you would want to be at everyday, that is, unless you want to die of a heart attack! When ordering a burger, and the person behind the counter asks if you want to take it all the way, there's only one way to answer. Absolutely. I think I've got their east-coast based terminology down. At first, I didn't know that they'll always give you two patties unless you order the 'little burgers. I didn't know that there was a difference between a burger with everything, and one 'all the way, which meant you get all of the main toppings (Mayo, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, Grilled Onions, Grilled Mushrooms, Ketchup, Mustard) with cheese and two patties, but nothing else. I did know that the presidential burger is named after President Obama's favorite: a burger all the way with jalapeno peppers. That was what I ordered, and it was awesome. On top of all that, the service was excellent. There's always a guy there cleaning up the tables and making sure all the peanut shells (of which there were a plenty) were cleaned off the floor. I admit it. I'm a sucker for Five Guys. This fact alone officially makes me a fat ass. Some of the things I love about 5 Guys: all-the-way toppings, malt vinegar and a bag full of Cajun fries to go with a truly deliciously messy burger. And bacon. Of course the bacon. Some things that are kinda strange but kinda awesome: an open kitchen with an entire staff that seems perfectly content with flipping burgers and taking orders all day. And self-serve peanuts. Some things I can do without: Two patties on a burger. There's really no difference between the jr. burger and the large, except for the extra beef patty and extra cheese. What is with all the hype about Five Guys?! I'm not a huge burger fan but even I can say In N' Out tastes much better than the stuff they're making here. "Little" burgers have one slice of beef while the regular gets two. I ordered a little bacon burger and they messed up the order, so I ended up eating a hamburger. Stole the bacon strips off the BF's burger and lemme tell you, the bacon makes the difference! Crisp and crunchy, the bacon added tons more texture and flavor to an otherwise bland burger. The cajun fries were 'aight, still pretty bland. Pepper and ketchup were necessities. A regular size gives you more than enough so you might wanna share. The soda machine is cool - it has a touch screen so you can choose whatever soda you fancy. Oh and they really have to do something about the way it smells inside. It's my opinion this place is grossly overrated. Free shelled peanuts are mostly molded. Warning. So they have a120+ drink combinations. So you can be all nostalgic about your Fanta drinking days. Yay. BUT when you go to eat (since you came for food and not grape Fanta), your bun falls apart. Even if it didn't, the burgers are good but they are far from great. Had to send mine back because after 2 bites it was all over the foil it was wrapped up in. The guy who helped me apologized and said they'd grill up the bun on the re-do. I was lightweight excited that there was a Five Guys opening near SF. I've tried Five Guys before but I'm glad I don't have to wait to go back home to get it. I usually get their bacon hot dog and never their hamburgers. Also, a side of cajun fries nommy! I like their cajun fries here because the Five Guys I usually go to put hella seasoning on the cajun fries and I can never finish a regular size of it. This location I can finish the whole regular size cup. I love their soda machine. I always wondered when I was going to stumble upon one of those but who knew they would have one at Five Guys. I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews. Don't know what people are expecting. It's a fast food joint, plain and simple. Now, as far as fast food joints go, it's pretty good. They have some unique things to offer that may have you coming back and picking them over some other places. Their burgers are flame broiled as far as I can tell. It's the taste, you just know it versus a burger that was cooked on one of those stoves where the meat is not exposed to an open flame. I prefer the flame broiled burger, so this is a plus for them in my book. They come in two sizes: little and regular. The difference is one patty or two, respectively. The single patty burgers plus an order of fries are quite enough to satisfy a healthy appetite. The aesthetic quality of your burger may vary depending on how much of a rush there is when you visit (look through yelper's pictures), the burgers can seem sloppy at times, but the charbroiled flavor remains. Variable aesthetic quality, and sloppy presentation, that's a minus. Their Cajun fries are pretty good, and unlike any fries I've seen at other fast food places. Another plus for them. Also, they aren't stingy with the fries. The regular order of fries is enough to share because not only do they fill the cup with fries, it seems they throw in an extra helping in the bag for good measure. Good value, plus for them. I also like the variety of beverage flavors they feature. They have a couple of those hundred flavor soda dispensers (at this location at least), always fun for the kids and those of us who never outgrew flavor mixing at soda fountains. Five Guys burgers joints have been popping up every where. They have a huge crate of free peanuts that are up for grabs near the counter. If you're allergic to peanuts, this is the wrong place for you to be at. They have a really cool all in one coke dispenser. It's a touch screen machine that mixes in flavors and the such. These workers are trained to flash a smile at you. I have never seen a place with some many employees flashing a smile before. It's downright kind of scary sometimes. The menu is a bit hard to figure out since the portions here are pretty crazy. The regular burger is actually a double patty burger while a little burger is a single patty burger. The regular fries are like a large size fries. Try not to go overboard with their selection. The burgers tasted pretty good. It came out still hot and the burger meat tasted like it wasn't cheaply mass produced. The Cajun french fries are pretty much the same as the regular fries except they have some spices sprinkled onto them. It didn't really make a big difference in flavor since the fried potato flavor was already overwhelming. Overall, the food was pretty good. I would say it's a 3.5 rating kind of place. I wouldn't go out of my way to grab Five Guys, but I would definitely choose them over other fast food burger places. read more

Elsewhere, I mentioned that I would never be a full Five Guys convert because I'm a California girl through and through, and one must owe her allegiance to a Cali brand -- that, of course, being In-n-Out. That said, there are plenty of reasons to enjoy Five Guys: They are always friendly. (Yes, just like In-n-Out.) They keep the line moving and they do so cheerfully. Even the burgermakers look peppy most of the time. The burgers: generally tasty, though a little heavy for me (this is where they most differ from In-n-Out, for me at least.) Everything tastes fresh and you can get a whole bunch of stuff on your burger if you like. Fries: eh, not such a fan, but it's neat that you can choose either standard fries or Cajun fries. Yay free peanuts! Yay Freestyle machine! This was the first place I encountered one, after seeing it in Atlanta at the Coke museum. Sadly, if you hit the place up later in the evening, they're often out of one or two sodas, but it's not as though you're left without a choice. My only real issue is this: they put the cup opening-side down on the counter when they give it to you. Why? Why, why, why? I don't want counter germs on my cup. What if I wanted to enjoy my soda sans lid? Please, place the bottom of the cup on the counter. So - yay burgers. And don't miss Yogurtland before heading home. read more

I don't know what all the hype is about. The burger was... a burger. Really nothing noteworthy about it. No special sauce or seasonings or anything. Just a very greasy burger with a slice of Kraft American Singles on top, and grocery store buns. The fires were plain and boring, and somehow I paid $9 for my meal. I didn't even get a drink either. Definitely should have gone to In N' Out. The service was great, but I just feel like a paid way too much for a sub-mediocre burger. This is a totally subjective observation but i think that the reason people on the east coast like this place so much is because they don't have In N' Out over there. Simple burger menu and free peanuts. Good price and double scoop fries. I haven't tried this place because I have been too lazy to drive down to the South Bay, but thank goodness they decided to open shop in Burlingame. What a great location choice! Ordered: * Bacon Burger with EVERYTHING [3 of 5] - Cost: $5.89. Meat and basic toppings nicely piled high and wrapped up for you. Everything was fresh. Unfortunately, meat was a little overcooked. And I learned my lesson, I can order the Little Bacon Burger (Cost: $4.69) because it is better sized for me. * Cajun Style [3 of 5] - Tasty, but not as well seasoned like Burger King. But fresh cajun homestyle sized and I liked it way more than In and Out Burger's fries. Glad to have tried this place. If you are looking for a quick burger bite and want an alternative to In and Out Burgers, try this place. It is not gourmet burgers, but it fills the burger cravings. read more

I've heard about Five Guys for the past year and through a friend's Facebook post, I found about the new location in Burlingame. The first time I went there, it wasn't too busy (helped that I went in the early afternoon). The person behind the counter was pretty friendly and helped me with the menu. Got my burger with everything & didn't realize that their regular was 2 patties (not that it was a bad thing). It was a good mix of flavors, a little greasy and good melted American cheese. The fries were great! It's true when they say you get more than you expect. Oh and that crazy soda machine. I had picked the strangest concoction of peach sprite, vanilla mr pib and orange coke that just hit the spot! Until they open up the one in Tanforan, I'll be coming by here every so often. read more
