A Target team member directed me to the area and I later found a few vinyl ones in the Magnolia section but they were too small. The store is pretty quiet now and I found the ginormous candy bars for my white elephant exchange! Lots of candy, feathery friends, so many gingerbread houses (even a Target one - how meta!), and plenty of ornaments, etc.

It's been a very long time since we stopped in any Target, and the inside seemed pretty much unchanged. Super Targets have a full grocery (minus a bakery and full service butcher shop). We were looking for pet supplies....they have a lot around cats and dogs but nothing beyond that...so the visit I did see something that I've never seen before...somebody handing out free samples of food (two different types of Potato chips in this case) It was the lone sample display in the entire store, and of course there was no easy place to throw away the plastic cup after eating....simple souvenir I guess.

I am a big fan of their ladies' casual dresses and my husband likes their selection of dress shirts. They had a fairly large selection of shoes for women with enormous feet (me) when I stopped in, and I ended up buying a couple pair. I was really surprised to find a pair of ankle boots on clearance for $17-18--if only they had fit! Lots of what they had (at this time anyway) were heels or wedges which I don't mess with but I found a couple pairs of work-appropriate flats that I could also wear fairly comfortably with a dress if I want. I haven't seen Clarks in Nordstrom Rack in some time, which is a bummer since they're my favorites (so comfy!!), but I'll keep looking. Lots of parking here since it's part of a shopping center.

This is my rating based on the potential that I'm seeing with the redevelopment of this mall. Over…read moretime, this mall has generally been a good spot to gather with a quality set of stores, though there's definitely a lot more competition nearby with good options in all of the surrounding shopping centers that cover all the different varieties of shops and restaurants. With lots of indoor malls closing nearby, this setup has become a bit more of a rarity, and personally I still like having a large spot with furniture to sit down at when I need to rest, a climate controlled area for when it's too hot or cold outside, and lots of fun spots to do seasonal pictures. With Hawthorn 2.0, I'm quite excited for what is to come. It looks like there will be a fresh set of solid anchors like Perry's Steakhouse, AMC, Dave & Busters, Macy's, etc. If this develops similarly to Randhurst, this would be a great spot to gather in Vernon Hills. Even before this is complete however, Hawthorn Mall has retained more quality tenants and has an overall cleaner and more modern look than some of the other indoor malls nearby. With the next closest similar offering being Woodfield Mall, this is still a fairly unique offering.
