I really had an amazing experience with an esthetician by the name of Ashanti who really educated me in skin care. There have been so many times where associates in stores like this, where employees are just throwing everything at you but, the kitchen sink with selfish interests only thinking of sales! Many times I've gotten things that I never really needed or worst product that wasn't good for me at all and I ended having to throw away everything. This time I came in the store after having done some research of my own and when Ashanti approached me to find out my needs, she heard me first and addressed my caress and concerns while educating me at the same time & it was only because I had an appointment with a dermatologist that I didn't purchase anything yet however, after I speak to my medical professional I will be back to shopping with Ashanti‼ Finally, an associate that really listens, hears, understands and cares about the clients needs over their own desires to make a sales quota or the like‼ I'm excited to shop with Ashanti in the future because of her wealth of knowledge, and ability to go above and beyond the call of duty! This was easy to drop in and pick up products -- blonde revival (lol) and brilliant spray -- that make you look good, feel good too. I booked a complimentary 20 minute facial here for this past Saturday with Paige. I weathered the beginning of hail and snow to make it and I was glad I did! The appointment started with a slightly warmer than room temperature aromatic tea and a 5 minute conversation about my current facial routine. Paige took the time to listen to me and tailored my mini facial to address problematic areas with 5 different products. My skin was glowing afterwards! And at the end of it, she offered me another cup of tea and that was that. There was no sell and I loved it! I hate being pressured to buy when I'm not familiar with a product and this was by far the most comfortable and educational experience I have had. Thank you to both of the ladies that helped me! I've been patronizing this store since they opened. Giselle and her staff are the absolute BEST! They are not just friendly, but they are very knowledgeable about the products and application. At another location, if they don't know an answer the go-to is that the product is discontinued. The Old Orchard location is always well stocked and all they make recommendations based on what you need. I don't work or live near this location anymore but it is always worth the trip. I am big fan of Aveda products I love how they smell. I especially like the sap moss weightless shampoo and conditioner (it's probably my favorite) and the cherry almond softening shampoo (my second favorite). On my recent trip I stocked up on my favorites and tried out some new products which is always a lot of fun. Upon arrival I was given a sample of their caffeine-free herbal infusion tea with licorice root and peppermint. I like it a lot too. At checkout, I was also given some travel samples to take with me on the road. I was also invited to come back to get a 20 min mini-facial maybe I will take them up on the offer soon. read more

I took advantage of the free mini facial here. I have to say that I was not impressed. It was really just an opportunity for them to slather on more products than I would ever use. This might have been okay if there was some education involved. I am not a huge potion and lotion person. I actually would like to be one but know so little, I don't really know where to start. I do know that I would want to keep it as simple as possible. I explained this to the young woman doing the facial but she had little to offer as far as advice. I would have liked some advice .... if I were to use only one or two products, which would be best? Instructions too were difficult to extract. I think the products are good but more enthusiastic, educated and informative would be appreciated. read more

I love Aveda products but why does every interaction feel so awkward? I found out that Aveda stores offer free facials and other services so I thought why not? I'm slightly housebound right now and a little pampering is something I could use. I also need moisturizer. I scheduled a time through the website and arrived 10 minutes early per the website's instructions. I arrived at the store and the two women working there seemed confused. It was almost like they played Rock, Paper, Scissors on who was going to do my facial. The girl who did my facial was pleasant enough, but I could tell she really did not want to do it. I had an Aveda facial ritual before, and this one was barely a facial. The one I had at the Northbrook store included a quick exfoliation and mask. At this location, she just washed my face, applied serum, and applied moisturizer (which I then got sold on). The next step was a scalp analysis which was supposed to include a scalp massage. She did it but I got a shoulder massage instead of a scalp massage. I also received a hard sell. I did buy the products, but I just felt uncomfortable the whole time. read more

This store smells great, their tea is delicious, and their products are all cruelty free. Couldn't ask for anything better. Yes, their products are expensive, but the quality is great. Sweetest sales staff ever. I love Aveda products. I love that they are environmentally friendly, are organically made and do not test on animals. I also love the way that their products smell and the fact that they do what they are supposed to do. I purchased a new under eye concealer that actually works. I am constantly battling dark circles under my eyes due to lack of sleep. I also appreciate how knowledgeable their staff is. My friend is allergic to tree nuts. The staff was able to direct her to the right products and which ones to avoid that contained nuts. Apparently, their shampoos use a certain kind of nut to produce lather. She can use their conditioners, but not their shampoos. Our sales person shared that she is allergic to shellfish so she can not use products that contain sea kelp, seaweed etc. We would have never even thought about allergies had she not asked. On a side note, I left my hat behind. I thought that was really sweet of the staff to leave a message on my cell phone to make me aware that they had it. I had forgotten all about it. read more

I came in yesterday because I wanted to try the Shampure shampoo and conditioner line. The two salesladies descended on me and did NOT let up or stop talking for a solid 5 minutes. All I wanted to do was quickly and quietly grab my products and pay, but I had to politely decline no fewer than 4 special offers. Also, I was tsk-tsk'ed for not buying the more "environmentally friendly" liter-size bottles (please), even though I told them this was my first time trying the product. Love Aveda, but I would rather just buy online than come back to this store. read more

Unfortunately I didn't get his name, but avoid the young man with dark hair employed here. I have been to this location a number of times, and it's always been a pleasant experience. On a recent visit, this guy was a total jerk. I suspected it may have been that I wasn't there to spend hundreds of dollars, but I would have been afraid to ask him anything because he seemed distracted and angry. Not even a "thank you" at the conclusion of the transaction, though I thanked him. He definitely seemed like he didn't want to be there for whatever reason, and that reflects badly on the store. read more

This was the third time I've visited this location. I love Aveda and am a loyal customer. My primary store is on Michigan Ave. At this store in Old Orchard, I've not yet been offered tea. Today I came with my toddler and stood by helpless as two sales associates ignored me. I came with a coupon but also intended to buy. I waited so long for someone to help me (and there were only 2 other customers in the store and at least 4 employees). When I was helped, I was handed my free sample that I had my coupon for. I was not offered the relaxation that the coupon also included. I also was never asked if I came for anything else or needed help. I would have bought quite a bit but instead will make the trek down to the Michigan Avenue store. read more

A trip to Old Orchard is never complete without stopping by Aveda. You are greeted (often by your first name) with a warm cup of tea, offered a moment of ritual if it is not too busy (which can include neck/shoulder massage or hand treatment), and introduced to new product lines. I would never use any other hair or skin care line besides Aveda. I could go on an on about how great they are - not tested on animals, great smell, etc but basically the products just speak for themselves. read more
