I recently had pictures taken at the portrait place here and they came out absolutely amazing! Katy took our pictures and helped us check out and everything in between and she was such a great help. She was really nice and communicative about what her ideas were and how everything worked. I went to the checkout with a printout of the product page from the JCPenney website where the register showed a price 150% above the website price. When I challenged the price I was told the JCPenney website price is not available in the store I had to buy the product online. My response was ok I'll do that and I received snarky response from the salesperson. Signed up for an account, ordered the product and proceeded to wait for the product to be picked, etc. It was then that I found the JCPenney policy on their website which stated that jcpenny.com pricing is honored in the store. At that juncture I asked to speak with the store manager. Really nothing else to do a that point given I was stuck waiting for an email that I could pick up the same physical product that I just tried to buy at a checkout... From the JCPenney website, "Yes, we match JCPenney.com prices on in-store purchases and vice versa. Does not apply to clearance pricing and/or online only coupons." The store manager confirmed in fact that website pricing is in fact honored in his store. It was then that I told him that a certain argumentative salesperson refused to honor the corporate policy. Picked up my product and on the way out of the store, which happened to near the same checkout, I found the salesperson arguing with the manager. It appeared the manager had to pull up the policy and prove it to his employee! Basically wasted an hour of my time and drove my aggravation level very high. An hour I'll never get back, not including the time to unwind from the experience. What still shocks me is the argumentative behavior of the sales person which extended to the store's top management. The first word that comes to mind is inconsistent. After having a fairly descent experience with our 8 month old first in studio photo shoot, I thought I'd return for her 1 year photo shoot. What a disaster! Not even sure of the name of today's photographer ...why, you ask... bc she never even bothered to introduce herself. So I'll make it short since the essence of this is perhaps becoming clearer based on my one star rating... no passion for infant photography, no attention to details, minimal effort to engage our daughter, and seemingly rushed the barely 15 min session. Yet, I remained hopeful that after hauling in props including balloons, a small customized rocking chair, a wooden number 1, and a change of clothes, surely I'd find a handful of photos that I couldn't resist purchasing. A was sorely disappointed... I selected one photo of the 20 or so "snaps" she took. Too many things wrong to even bother listing... just suffice it to say you should consider going elsewhere unless you just have time to waste. read more

I think this JCPenney is store is trying to update their image. The store itself has gone thru some face-lifts, and it looks really nice! I had stopped shopping there for nearly 10 years and just started again during this past Christmas season. I think they're really stepping up their game in order to survive in today's trendy-demands. Kudos to them for sticking it out so long, and trying to compete! The main reasons I've gone there are for: Bedding, and for Teenage boys clothing/suits. Both times I've been very successful. I can't stand their in-store Sephora because it's just too small and never seems to have what I went there for, so I refuse to go there anymore. But thank God they're opening a full Sephora in the mall soon (today, maybe even??). Which is great because the Vernon Hills mall really needed a sephora. Anyways, I digress. Yay for Penney's! I'll continue to shop there. Now they just need to up their online game. More coupons/sales and such. read more

My husband Gary and I and our adorable fur baby fefe were at JCPenney on the 19th shopping for a birthday present for my dad cause his birthday is march 31st which is this week. And so we looked all around for a nice dress shirt and there were some for $40-$50 and some for $24.99 and then we looked in the clear boxes where all of the clearance dress shirts are and we found a really nice dress shirt for an amazing price! Plus we got to buy 4 new towels as well because of the incredible deal we got on my dads dress shirt. All together we spent $25 on all 5 items! My husband Gary and I and our adorable fur baby fefe were so happy that we stayed within our budget. Plus we also got to buy my dad a birthday card and a coffee mug as well since we didn't spend a lot. Thanks so much JCPenney for always carrying amazing items at such great prices. read more

The JCPenny Portrait studio in Vernon Hills was so disappointing. My husband wanted to get a family shot now that our infant can sit up independently. We got there and stood at the desk while the 'photographers' talked amongst themselves. Thankfully one of them finally broke from the herd to check us in. Here is what i got *You only get 15 minutes with the photographer -I had two outfits i wanted for the two grandmothers. 15 minutes did not give us enough time for our daughter to warm up, for enough pictures, nor enough time to change her out of the first outfit. I didn't get one smiling picture of my baby and family. *Our photographer did so little to engage our daughter to smile -My mommy-friends said that when they went elsewhere, their photographer would run up to the child with a feather and wildly run back to the camera making the baby and the whole family laugh hysterically. *"Corporate Policy" will be that the photographer only will take 12-20 pictures in your 15 min session -If you have an infant, you know you need around 6 shots before you get a good picture of him/her smiling/giggling. For instance, my wedding photographer would take several rapid shots. So i expected a treasure trove of pictures to choose from. Which is what i expect if they are charging $170 for one CD. *Customer Service was lacking in every regard -We got dumped on a gentlemen who worked there. This gentlemen started saying pick this click this. I was confused on what we were doing. Turns out the session was over and we were to pick out the pictures. He spent 10 seconds rushing through an explanation of how to select pictures and their size. -Also, we found that several pictures were of my daughter's outfit having one pant leg up above her knee and the other not. As a photographer, wouldn't you take a moment to fix the outfit so it looks even? -And even if you dislike all the pictures, you still have to spend $10 for each person having their picture taken, e.g. $30 for a family of 3. I left sad when i left and talked to my mommy friends today back at work. They all confirmed this photo session was mediocre at best and that i should ask for a refund. I called today at lunch and was given a refund by Daniele. No apologies. No questions about why I was asking about a refund. My theory is that they know this is a scam and they will burn as many guests as they can since very little people will ask for a refund. I post this so that this Portrait studio can correct these customer service gaps and that other moms can have a better experience and pictures of their children. Our children are young once and we'd like to have beautiful pictures to remind us of their cute lil smiling faces. read more

They offer a variety of backdrops and props that we could match with his outfits. She captured some amazing shots and I will definitely return! read more

We had a great experience at the portrait studio getting newborn photos done. The photographer was engaged and patient with a 10 day old baby, and came up with some great shots. We got 2 outfit changes, and brought some of my husband's USMC uniform pieces and a couple ideas from Pinterest, without a really clear vision and the ideas Amanda came up with came out so beautifully! We went in because we purchased a Groupon at a significant discount, but will be glad to go back to get family portraits when the little one is older. We were promptly tended to when we came in and the staff was friendly (as was the general store staff that helped us find the studio). The photo packages and customizing options are a little overwhelming, but when we weren't prepared to make the decision same day on what prints/digital alterations to get there was no pressure. We attempted to purchase a TV. They cancelled the order via email (not even a courtesy call) on the day of delivery (which we switched around our schedules to be home for). We got a call from the delivery company stating they had TWO TVs to send to us. We did the right thing, contacted JC Penney about the situation and they corrected their mistake. I also placed a small partial payment of the TV on my JC Penney credit card. Sadly, even though we purchased this TV in December, the charge is still on my credit card (it is February). I am working with the credit card company to dispute this. This has been a customer nightmare, and JC Penney has not done any service recovery for their mistakes for us. DO NOT PURCHASE ELECTRONICS from them. They have shown to be unreliable, they are novices and you will do most of the follow up if they make the mistakes. read more

The portrait student was professional but overbooked and running an hour behind schedule. If you want cheap but good photos they're great. They don't take many photos but cuts down on the selection process. Photos takes 3-4 weeks for delivery, they are not immediate delivery. read more

Last Thursday I had an appointment at 6:30 pm at the optical dept to get an eye exam.I got there at 6:36 pm They told me the Doctor has left for the day.I called US optical and told them what happened. They called me back and the manager told them that I was a walk in with no appointment It's very sad that JCPENNEY'S has an optical dept with a bunch of liars.I will never shop at this store ,and,will pass the word around about how I was lied to. read more

I was a first time visitor at there portrait studio back on Mothers day. I decided to have a first time family portrait done. So of course I ordered a large 16x20 canvas plus some addition sheets. and I picked them up 2 weeks later, just to find my husbands eyes were Greener than a Green Goblin. Do to the reflection from his eye glasses, Which I found disturbing, that they would even print such a picture. Let alone give it to a customer like that? So I immediately called Daniel (Photo manager) and she said that she would replace all the pic's and have them expedited. however that the 16x20 would take a could more days than the sheets. so I said that I would rather wait and pick them all up on the 21st of June. Yes! over 1 month of waiting? So today I went and they only had the sheets of pics ready and No 16x20. Which I had already paid for?? Not to mention that they don't"t do enhancements or photo shop for customers. Yet they charge you as if they were a professional studio. So beware!!! cause my journey is still not over and we are now going into 2 months later :( read more

I and my wife went to pick up something at this JC Penney recently. We were there to buy some curtains and accessories. They had an excellent selection of stuff. However, our experience was killed by the customer services. JCPenney draperies section is exclusively handled by specialized staff. Which means if there is one person working there and that person is busy, you have to wait wait and wait. All we needed was to check if there is inventory in the backroom for a particular curtain we liked. We waited for nearly 30 - 45 minutes to be paid little or no attention to. On top of that, when we did get attention, it was very rude and abrupt behavior from the lady there. In a competitive world (and for a company that is struggling), this is the last thing that JC Penney requires - poor attitude and customer service. We walked to the sears in the other end of the Hawthorn center and bought what we wanted. JCP's loss, Sears's win. While you may have tons of good stuff, what you also need is good attitude and behavior to sell things. Sorry JCP, no wonder your fortunes are sliding. read more

Salon. Very Disappointing. Stylist late. Didn't apologize, then told the next cust. she was running late bc I added highlights...but SHE spent 5 minutes convincing me I wanted highlights when all I made the appt. for was\all over color, so her delays and added highlights added 30 minutes to appt, but she blamed me? . Then she wanted to upsell me for a conditioner treatment, I said "no" and all of a sudden, "free coupon". Conditioner was nothing special, glad I didn't waste $15.00. Color, highlight and cut just OK. Did not get the usual compliments I get after an appt. All around she was very controlling with what she thought was best--color, length, style, etc. and continually pushed Penney products. Will not go back. Reviewed by David's wife, Lisa. read more

My husband and I found a good Black Friday deal on a new mattress, so we were quite thrilled - at first. Delivery took two weeks, which was to be expected because mattresses are made to order. The delivery was scheduled for between 1-3 p.m. and we were told we'd receive a call half an hour before the delivery arrived. Well, we started calling around 3:00 to find out where the delivery was and kept getting told the driver would arrive within an hour. Finally, around 6:30 the delivery showed up. The truck left and then I noticed a stain on our brand new mattress. I called customer service and was on hold for over 45 minutes just to be told that all JCP could do was send another mattress, which would take another two weeks. No apology, nothing offered to make up for the fact that I had no bed to sleep on now, and no rush service to be had. Great. I'm 8 months pregnant and need to sleep on the couch for two weeks... The next delivery was scheduled between 1-3 p.m. again and guess what? We repeated the same process as the first time, calling and calling because 3:00 came and went... Driver showed up just after 5:00, so I guess that's progress...? Lesson here: You pay for what you get; cheap price equals sub par customer service and very delayed receipt of product. We will gladly pay more next time at a better store! read more

Friendly staff who at least try to help puts this location into the "good" column, and this location has always been clean, items stocked where they should be, etc. That said, JCPenney's recent problems are showing. Went to buy a couple of short sleeve dress shirts for summer and a pair of shoes - the selection for both was terrible. Maybe the "new-old CEO" will turn things around -- I'm rooting for them, for no other reason than they haven't succumed to the Wal-Mart/Target led strategy of staying open on Thanksgiving Night. read more

Whoever does the buying for furniture at this store location-Bravo! I've gotten so many great furniture pieces from you over the years and all of them were totally affordable and sold to me with great service. The most recent purchase was a couch. I had my heart set on one I saw at Ikea, but I checked out JCPenny anyway, and I'm so glad I did. They only had maybe 10 couches in the whole store but every one was beautiful. I was disappointed at first because all of them were out of my price range but then I saw it-a modest couch with microfiber and big enough for four. It was perfect. And three months later, my boyfriend and I still talk about how great of a couch it is. The man helping us was so kind and patient. I don't remember his name, but he was extremely professional and he had a foreign accent. For the delivery, I was given a two hour gap and was even called twenty minutes before the movers got to my apartment. When they arrived with the couch, I thought there was no way the movers could get it inside-it was SO BIG. But they were insistent and sure enough-it fit after a few tries. All in all, I was extremely impressed by how professional everyone I dealt with here at JCPenny was. You guys made buying furniture as hassle-free as it should be. read more

This is an awesome salon. My stylist, Morgan, is a true gem and is so, so talented. I followed her to this location from another salon because of her talent! My haircut today was excellent, as always. It had been a good amount of time since my last cut, and my hair was pretty damaged, but she took excellent care and time in making sure she achieved the exact look I wanted. She's the only one I'll trust with my bangs! I'll be back for a fresh color soon. If you're in the market for a new stylist, give this place a try and request Morgan! Did a portrait sitting using a Groupon... people were very friendly but we were pretty disappointed with the photos. They only took one shot in each position, and most didn't turn out too well. Wish they'd have taken more for better options. At least we only spent the Groupon amount, guess you get what you pay for. read more

First time ever writting a review. I went to westfield mall this past sunday with my husband and kids. I went to a few store trying to find shoes for my kids. The last store we went to was Jc Penny. We usually never go there don't really find anything good when i go. I ended up finiding some shoes for myself. But like i said we were looking for shoes for the kids. So i had the shoes i wanted and we have a baby in the stroller so we went on the elevator to get to the kids deparment. Looked at the shoes didn't like anything. My son was being cranky so we decied to pay and go home. As i was paying i notcied this girl walking around looking at me, i remembered i had seen her like 3 times. I thought has she been following us ? But i was w.e i was trying to pay for my shoes and leave. We paid and we already out the store when this lady that was following us started running and yelling excuse me excuse me! I turned around and she said i saw you guys looking at the shoes and we can find them did u happen to put them in your purse. Honestly i was so confused at first. I was like no pretty they are not and i opened up my purse and showed her. Everyone was starting at us because she made a scene. She didn't even ask to look at all the bags i had under my stroller. If she's getting paid to catch people stealing then she did a pretty bad job of it. I was so mad that she accused me. If she was so sure i stole them why not pull me into the store and check me. Never going back. My family told me i should of asked to speak to a manager and told them. But i had a cranky kid and i wasn't even thinking right at the time, i was just over the mall wanting to leave. Never going back to a Jcpenny again. read more

I've been to this particular store twice in about a two month period. The first time i was pretty happy. I found a dress that I loved and the customer service was good. This second time though I was very disappointed. I was there to get a dress to wear to a wedding and found a really beautiful formal dress. The lady in the dressing room was really nice but then when I went to check out at the customer service desk i was treated very rudely by the young lady there. She never greeted us, in fact, I'm not really sure she said anything to us other than the price of the purchase. Then she folded up my $90 formal dress and threw it in a bag with my boyfriends collared shirt and belt. I didn't bother to ask for a dress bag because I was getting the impression she didn't really want to deal with us so i figured I would just bring it straight home and hang it up. Then I get home and she hadn't taken the security tag thing off the dress! I guess I will be back to get the tag taken off but I wont be back after that. read more
