Every time I come to this location I am greeted and satisfied with my purchases. This store is always organized and clean and the staff is incredibly friendly. I love wandering around and just looking down the aisles even if I have no plan to purchase anything because it's always a vibe being inside this store.

So Easter is coming, you're still paying off Christmas for the kiddos, and you need some cheap but-not-too-cheap basket stuff ? Five Below is your jam. Cheapish candy, seasonal stuff, throw-away "electronics" like headphones, phone chargers, LED lights, toys, kitchenish stuff, art supplies... yeah, it's one of those stores. Honestly, you don't really need anything in this store. But for those who like to shop for inexpensive stuff, it's always worth a walk through this store. I bought a wireless iPhone charger for $5. Sure, it is probably giving off a low grade radiation from its ionized Polonium coating and shoddy workmanship, all but guaranteeing that its placement near my pillow on my nightstand will give me assorted brain tumors in a matter of months. But $5 though. And it works. Don't come here for 5 Below... but if you're here anyway, walk through. It's like, fun and stuff.

Where was this ACT book when I needed it in high school? I still remember paying full price at Borders-- ugh!

If you haven't been to Five Below, it's a more "upscale" dollar store except items are priced up to $5. Think of it as a glorified Target $1-3 aisle expanded into a store with music. They have random things - shirts, candy, blankets, stuffed animals, books, cell phone chargers/ cases , sandals, makeup, toys, travel size, fitness equipment, socks etc. I especially like their book section which varies but is mainly cook books, fun books for kids, and educational books. If you have been to any Five Below, it's consistent with others.

Balloons - A selection of birthday balloons with colorful designs and messages is shown on a store pegboard at Five Below in El Monte, CA.

The aisles were too crowded. I had a walker. My friend, in a wheelchair, had a difficult time managing. Something got caught on his wheelchair, and it wouldn't let go. Finally, my friend is a wounded veteran. That's why he uses a wheelchair. He rarely uses his benefits card. He had asked the day before the benefits worker about the parameter of card usage. The worker didn't explain that his card was only for FOOD. He had an exorbitant amount of credit, but it could only be used for food. At the check out, the white woman must have known the rule, because she bagged the food separately from the non-food. She shamed him for making a long line. Maybe had we been white-not me black and female and him Vietnamese and male-disabled or if I had had sex that time, then maybe she would have been respectful. I'm the daughter of a deceased veteran and my friend in the wheelchair, wounded from the war in Iraq. She should try harder. Oh, yes, she was the only one of the staff that was proficient in English. Had the business truly been accommodating, there would have been more space for wheelchairs and walkers. Also, a sitting area for elders and disabled would be there. Finally, common courtesy may go a long way.

If you are a fan of the Huntington Collection in Pasadena, you'll be sure to love the Bargain Box. Just like the Huntington Collection, I can't call it a thrift shop since it's not like any thrift shops I've been to! Looks more like an expensive antique shop when you step inside. I was blown away by the quality of the available merchandise, especially the housewares and decor. It's very evident that all of the pieces on sale were meticulously cleaned and staged by the hardworking staff. All of the furniture and housewares are excellent condition, not to mention very well priced. Make a point to visit before Halloween! The store is all decked out with Halloween decor! The Bargain Box is managed by the Assistance League of Arcadia, and one of their worthy endeavors is Operation School Bell, which provides much needed clothing as well as school supplies such as backpacks and books to children in need in neighboring local schools. There's a small parking lot but there should be plenty of street parking available if needed. Also, be aware that the store has limited hours since it's managed by volunteers. It's only open two days a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 10am to 1pm.

Clothing, jewelry, books...they carry a little bit of everything here. I enjoy browsing the racks and shelves even when I leave empty handed. Good to know: They are only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I suggest subscribing to their email list so you know the weekly happenings before you visit. The lot is on the smaller side and it fills up pretty quickly. There is plenty of street parking on Live Oak, but that also fills up on Wednesdays. If you arrive a little before opening there is usually a short line outside to get in, but there is never a mad rush to get in or anything, so don't let the line scare you away!

However,…read moreI've had several negative experiences inside the store that make shopping here frustrating. One incident really bothered me: we came in with an empty Trader Joe's tote bag, and the Filipino lady with glasses made us put it on the bag rack--yet she didn't ask other customers behind us to do the same. It felt very unfair, almost like we were being singled out. When I brought it up, she said she "didn't know," even though others walked in with bags in plain sight. The manager did apologize on her behalf, but she never apologized herself. We shop here regularly, so I'm pretty sure she recognizes us, yet she continues to give us a hard time. As for the store itself, some deals sit for a long time and I'm not sure what their staple items actually are. The produce section is especially disappointing--many items are not fresh, and I've even seen moldy produce. I would not recommend buying produce here; the prices aren't cheaper enough to justify the quality. You really have to know your prices or you'll end up paying about the same as elsewhere. Most non-produce items are cheaper, though. They do have EV chargers in the back, which is nice for electric vehicle owners. But another issue is that I've come in specifically for sale items from their email ads, only to find different packaging or to be told they can't honor the advertised price. Associates often say they don't have the item or have never seen it. It makes me wonder if the marketing emails are just meant to draw customers in. There is a restroom available, but you do have to ask for a key. Overall, there are some conveniences here, but also recurring issues that make the shopping experience inconsistent and sometimes unfair.

Besides the fact that San…read moreGabriel is a super busy street that backs up with traffic, if you decide to buy a bigger item that needs to be picked up from their back warehouse, you have easier access to get in, instead of circling your car around the block. The prices here, in-person can be better and even more discounted than on their website, depending on what inventory they need to clear out. There are lots of chairs, like office chairs, gaming chairs, dining chairs, bar stools, that you can get for a really, really, REALLY good price. I'm not gonna say they're the best quality, but I think it's perfect if you need to quickly furnish a place on a budget, ie - a college student needing a desk, chair, etc for a dorm or an apartment. I would say, try sitting on the stuff in store before you buy to test it's durable enough for your usage. You have to imagine that stuff this cheap is built as mail-order stuff for skinny Asians. I picked up a side table that's lasted the better part of a year, so far. I was SUPER tempted to get a fluffy cat tree for $20. Some cool selection of outdoor furniture. And even some random household things, like a clothes steamer. The thing is, I get the sense that their inventory is rather randomized. But I think you'll find some cool deals or something useful for a bargain if you take stroll and walk around. Their pricing puts a lot of other "outlet" warehouse furniture stores to shame.

The room is pretty big so thought there was going to be a lot of good stuff. Looking around the place it became quickly apparent that this stuff is really just overstock stuff. Sitting in the chairs and feeling the fabric of the furniture you can tell the quality is somewhat lower which is reflected in the prices. After walking around for a few minutes we decided to leave. The prices are good but the stuff just seems disposable. Like you just replace them every year. We just didn't find anything worthwhile and the social media post was obviously an exaggeration and just had to pass. Only go if you want low prices over quality. But we had to pass.

I used a dustpan to shovel snow (1st time shoveling snow + using a dustpan to do it) LOL... it wasn't too bad actually. One gray dustpan was $4.49 + tax... not too shabby and it's the sturdy type, too. I didn't check out any other items in the shop, but from what I can tell, they do have some nifty knick knacks, small appliances, general household stuff, etc. It doesn't have a lot of space for customers to walk around though... there are only 2 aisles really... the one closest to the entrance and the one on the other side of the wall LOL. I grabbed one dustpan, waited in line (wait wasn't too bad), and paid cash for it. The lady at the cashier was pleasant. She may have been the owner... not 100% sure though.
