Some of these reviews confuse me but maybe since I am a visitor from out of town, there are details I haven't seen. First time here visiting from Palm Beach Florida. Our golds is so awesome so I already had a pretty high standard. The only downside of today's visit was the hours. 10am opening time on Sundays, and the sign outside says 24 hours. That only applies to Monday-Friday. Wouldn't have know that if I was just pulling off the highway and didn't stalk the website. No biggie though. I ran some vacation errands to kill time for an hour. Lifting makes me sweat, not small stuff like that. The gym is very well kept, friendly helpful staff, amazing variety of equipment, actually and they even have a "ladies preferred" weight room for the girls who can't hang with the big boys. Sort of like a "judgement free zone". The locker room was phenomenal. Ours is small and pretty too but this one is so spacious I had ultimate privacy changing. Anyway I wouldn't depend on the prior reviews - the grass isn't always greener - you want a perfect gym? Go hit Equinox for $250 a month. My husband signed up for a 7 day trial pass today and received a call regarding this. He was told that he could come in for the tour but could only work out if he had a Conroe or Willis ID. We live in Spring but he works down the road from this location in Conroe. I understand that each location has different policies but I don't understand not being able to workout in the gym before signing up for a membership. He was told that if he wanted to work out he would have to sign up or pay for a day pass which is $20. As someone who used to work in the fitness industry, I've never heard of not being able to try to the gym after a tour unless you purchase a membership or day pass. read more

The gym is very well put together and has almost everything you could need, but the staff isn't so great, I went in today and an African American guy was at the front and being very rude to me when i started asking about the month free trial membership, he said I was being very confusing and shoved me to the side pretty much and just talked in a huge egotistical tone saying "i run this club" like dude its a gym not a billion dollar company, apart from him everyone else is really cool. Tried to cancel, they charge $100 to cancel. Tried to freeze and they are trying to amend the contract to state I have to continue to pay WHILE it's frozen. Horrible service I just want out. Horrible management director. The reviews are in fact TRUE. They tried telling me when I signed up that people just didn't like him for racist reasons but nope, that was a lie. He is rude and condescending. On another note, the daycare staff is a hit or miss. Some are great, some are super young girls that have no idea what's going on. My son walked out with a deep cut on his face from another kid. No one knew what really happened. They don't allow you to talk to the parent or even know who hurts your kid for confrontation reasons. They also won't even suspend the child until they've done it 3 times. Therefore I had to cancel my membership on the spot. read more

This gym has decent equipment, I've been a member for 2 years, they are nothing but a hastle! My honest main complaint is there payment process and the software they use, and for the cost and the hastle, it's a rip off! It's a by weekly charge there apparently even though I used to get charged 1 time per month now for some reason twice, and for $60 a month, for an over crowded gym and workers who have little knowledge with the software and system being used? Lol I think over priced is what they are, manager is nice, workers not so much, you want to cancel your membership? Good luck! Took me over a month to finally cancel my membership, you might want to keep a card on file to so they don't mess your credit score up, you have to buy out of it, worst part is, my membership ends in 2 days and I just got a charge as if I'm paying for the next month or shall I say (2 weeks) lol, what a joke, to much false promises, and terrible attitudes, I cannot wait to switch gyms! I've been a member of FP 1,5 years. I first registered at Magnolia location but we moved to Willis and I'd been going to Conroe location since last year. There was a necessity to freeze my membership for some period of time. So I went to the Conroe location and there was a guy at the front desk. I told him that I needed to freeze my membership. After looking up at my account he told me he could not do that and that I have to go to Magnolia to freeze It since it was my home location. I explained that upon the registration I was told that if I have a FP membership I can go to any location and freeze my membership at any location. I also explained to the guy that I don't have time to go to magnolia and if he could help me do that online to which he responded that "we don't do it online here" and he is "unfamiliar with the website". Well rather to bother and go to magnolia, I told him I'd like to cancel my membership. To which he replied he couldn't not do that either. And he had this "leave me alone" attitude which was unprofessional and insulting. He was the only guy at a front desk at the time , so when I saw another guy came to the front desk I asked him if he was familiar with the myclubonline website and if he could help me freeze the membership and he said yes, I can do it in the system. And that first guy jumped in and yelled I thought you wanted to cancel!!!!, you told me you wanted to cancel!!!!!. If you want to freeze I can put it on your file. How stupid! I spent there 10 minutes explaining I need to FREEZE it. He's just too lazy to do his job. So he asked the second guy if he could finish that for me turned around and said I'm not going to deal with her. He's got some attitude, man!! He didn't have a badge but I approached to him later and asked his name and he said something like Meilikh or Maleikh. He refused to tell me his last name. A tall guy with a little fuzz on his chin. Well thank to this guy in the next few days I'm going back to the Magnolia location and I'm going to cancel my membership. It takes me 25 minutes to get to FP in Conroe so with this kind of attitude to the gym clients I don't think it's worth it. read more

What appears to be a nice large gym, gets a lot smaller when you realize theirs no end of broken, non functional, and worn out equipment. Particularly the treadmills. There's 30+ treadmills with a minimum of 10 non functioning daily. The sauna has yet to be repaired, almost half a year after it burned down due to lack of safety considerations by the gyms staff. Often over crowded, especially after 4 o clock when they have several classes and it's full of students from Conroe high school. I really believe it would be better to offer the classes outside of peak evening hours personally. The value of the membership itself is ok, considering you have 2 more area locations to choose from with a wide selection of equipment, my personal favorite is the Woodlands location, where although smaller, all of the equipment is more functional, updated, and it is kept much cleaner. The Magnolia one also has a large amount of worn out equipment, but is much more well kept than Conroe. Hopefully this gym improves, or come august I'll have to take my gym needs elsewhere. read more

I stopped in to take a preview of the gym because my gym after 8 years is closing. I was told I could not look around unless I filled out a waiver, this required my street address, phone numbers, email and photo! I told them I didn't not want to give all this information as I do not want emails, phone calls and unsolicited mail, or my info being sold for marketing purposes, they told me to check the box to avoid that. Well the next day I received email offers, I also had sales from the gym reach out and call me. This is a violation of peoples privacy rights, who's to say they don't sell my info or it falls into the wrong hands as they can't seem to manage there business very well. read more

I am so confused by the bad reviews. This place is great. I've been going several times a week for a year. I've never had to wait for a machine, my two year old daughter loves the daycare ladies (she literally begs to go to the gym lol,) the locker rooms are spacious and have everything you could want. Per other reviews, the sauna IS perpetually out of order so if you're getting a gym membership for the sauna this is not your place. I will say it is pretty crowded when I go, but they have a ton of equipment & plenty of parking. I've literally never experienced an issue and would recommend this place to anyone. read more

I need to cancel and being told that I can't cancel because I paid for the whole year............There is even in the contract a buy out and I even acknowledged the $100 fee. Take whatever you need from my $700-$800 and give me my money back please. Ive been oversold and over promised. IF anyone says the Sauna in conroe is going to be fixed its just a bold lie. I cant even get a date when its going to be fixed. Then I was told they are adding a new infa red room for additional money. I was kinda flat out lied too. If you had no intentions of bringing back the Sauna that is included in our packages then you should tell people that on sign up. Manager Canyon told me in the same breathe they are going to repair the sauna and also not fix that one and replace with new tech that cost members more money. So you are not repairing the Sauna you are skirting around it. Im going to just call you a liar sir! I asked about the broken sauna and was told it was being repaired. This place is a joke. I tried the gym during a 30 day trial and cancelled prior to my origination date. I spoke to 4 individuals at the Conroe location and was told by 3, including Kenyan, the GM, everything was fine. However, I did receive a call back stating that my account needed to be bought out. I find this to be more than a bit unprofessional. The steam sauna was broken and couldn't be used, the facilities were in decent shape. I asked for the corporate number and was told "NO". I asked the GM to have the owner contact me and he stated that that was not going to happen. What on earth is going on at this place. They do not abide by their own contracts or offers, nor do they try to assist. The attitude I received from the GM, when simply asking questions, was that of a child. Do yourself a favor and do not give these guys a single thought. Had I know that this would have gone down like it did, I would have avoided this establishment like the plaque. If no one is willing to speak to you, answer your questions, or provide a solution, then there is a lot of work to be done. I did receive a statement telling me I was required to pay to cancel, even after the GM stated " You cancelled within the proper timeframe, the cancellation looks good." The gym is clean. The people running the kids play room are always welcoming and friendly. I'm a new member and my biggest complaint is that any time I go to the front desk no matter how many of the guys are up there they all stare at me like I'm bothering them and continue to ignore me. We stood there for a full 2 minutes today before one of the guys finally said "what's up" after looking at us and then walking away to continue his conversation with coworkers before. If it was a one off thing I wouldn't even leave a review but it's been every single visit it's like that. I've only had one person up front that showed good customer service and that was Josh. I was accosted by another member in the locker room of this gym. I did not feel safe coming back and asked to cancel my contract and receive a refund for the unused time. I had prepaid for the year. Corporate Golds agreed and said all they needed was local club approval. That never came. I tried multiple times and the would never allow corporate to refund any of my membership. Fast forward to the end of my year and I was charged for an automatic renewal. I disputed the charge on my credit card and did not pay. This gym refused to honor my cancellation and turned me over to collections. To this day I have a $224 dollar collection on my credit report. I refuse to pay for the automatic renewal. I already paid for 9 months I didn't use because I felt unsafe. Beware of any contract with this location you will not be let out of it no matter how extreme the circumstances. As an update, I did reach out to Velvet and she did try to help but was unable to. I have to hold to my comment that no matte the circumstances Golds Gym will try to continue to bill you and you will have a very hard time cancelling a contract. Beware. read more

BETTER OFF LITERALLY ANYWHERE - I write this review with the full understanding that there is a universal and fundamental issue with ALL gym contracts. Here's my issue with Fitness Project: Conroe. I signed a 1 year contract for a membership for my kiddo. The sales person was super friendly and helpful. He sat us down and went over each section of the contract and gave us all the main points. He explained how we could cancel once the term was up: "No big deal, you come in and sign and the membership gets cancelled". I call recently and confirm, just pop in for a quick signature and it's all set. Boo on me for taking his word for it. In the meantime, I am charged an annual fee and then informed there's a 30 day waiting period to cancel, during which I'm expected to continue payments. I spoke with the "manager" today when I tried to cancel and the interaction was POLAR opposite to my initial encounter. He was defensive and short with me, offering me one word responses and walking away repeatedly to fill a cooler with energy drinks, however he was kind and engaging to everyone around me. Here's my advice, if you're considering a membership here: don't. There are a million other gyms in Conroe with owners that aren't out to scam clients and are willing to train their management to do more than fill coolers. read more

I had 20 pre-paid trainer sessions. I used 12 and had 8 left. I was injured and had 3 back/neck surgeries. My sessions expired and Fitness Project would not reinstate the sessions or refund my cash payment. While the staff was very nice, their hands were tied by management. Stay away from Fitness Project. My husband and I have been attending fitness project for over a year now and love it! The staff, especially Elizabeth at the front desk, always has a smile and warm welcome! We attend the fitness classes and always get a great workout with competent and friendly instructors! About the only thing good I can say about this place was Diego, always super welcoming everytime I came in. If you want a workout buddy you always have the roaches that are crawling around in there to keep you motivated. Equipment is broken, sauna has been down for God only knows how long, and management specifically Canyon Bruce, the GM, really just loves to talk down to you. They charged me $100 cancelation fee plus 2 more charges after. Maybe I'm paying for the roaches to chill there who knows. They won't fix their equipment cause there's only 5,000 members well I can assure you it's only going to decline from there. If you move they make it IMPOSSIBLE to cancel a membership my daughter has been trying to cancel her membership since she moved in January. She has emailed management and provided the proper documentation. She has gone in person even though it is a three hour drive to cancel and based on the agreement you can cancel if you move out of the area. However they will not honor this please beware they will continue to charge despite completing all the proper paperwork!!! My friend's daughter had the same problem. I am a member of Fitness Project and want to express my disappointment in this gym. The showers are unsafe and unclean. They leave the shower room floors with at 3 to 4 inches of water so when you come out of the shower you can slip and fall. I have almost slipped and fell a few times. It is unsanitary and dirty. Your are actually stepping into dirty water actually. The EPA should close them down!! I pay good money to use their equipment and at least have a decent shower. I will be looking for a nicer gym. read more

Be aware it is extremely difficult to cancel a membership. Calling or emailing is not acceptable, you have to submit proof that you moved and you have to mail it. Even then they will continue to charge you because they will claim you don't meet the cancellation criteria. Nobody at the gym is able to assist you either! Find a different gym, this leads to lawsuits and sleepless nights not good workouts. read more
