I purchased a three class special through Facebook and the class I attended was really great. Definitely needed that cardio session. However, once my first class was over, they swindled me into signing up for a membership ON THE SPOT which was a bit uncomfortable because they are definitely the pushy salespeople type. Either way, I gave in and signed up for the membership but I cancelled it before 3 days in when I realized I definitely couldn't pay it every month. My two stars comes from the lack of customer service. I paid for a full month in which I was unable to use because I tore my ACL. I reached out via email hoping I can possibly get the month back especially since I didn't use any of the classes for the month that I paid $200+ for! They didn't even reply back to my message. This just shows that they're really all about money and not really about community which sucks because you're located in Harlem which is all about the community. Grand opening package purchased FEB 2016, finally cashed in and first class completed. The introductory package comes with a set of classes, gloves and free water for workouts. This is a cashless business, they only accept cards for all purchases. As well as no shoes allowed past the check-in counter. So please make sure your pedicures are on point, (Lol) or you can wear socks. The studio is very well maintained and everyone takes pride in that fact. Don't be fooled by the name, iLoveKickboxing provides you with a total body workout. With a pretty intense right to the point warm up, they will get your heart rate up and have you ready to work. The class is a group workout with opportunity for individual practice at different points. Everyone is cool and welcoming especially to first timers. The instructors are fun, informative, skilled & patient, but they will make you work! After your first intro class, you are presented with the opportunity to join at reduce rates of $197 for membership (the cost of your intro pkg will be deducted from this fee) and monthly membership rates of 7months @ $189 and 12 months @ $165. Overall a cool studio that offers you the opportunity for a total body workout, and a wide class schedule with varying times to accommodate all. Easily accessible by MTA or car, with metered parking available in front. Worth a try if you are looking for a fresh start or something new. The gym has only gotten because now they include Kettle Bell Training, Free weights classes, yoga, self defense classes and Reiki/Meditation. Last but not least. The staff is great! They are friendly and very good at what they do. They challenge you each time you come to class and are there with you every step of the way to ensure you are properly working out. My first class kicked my ass!! I have four more to go before I decide if I will purchase a membership . What is holding me back is that you only have the option of a year commitment, I wish they had a 10 package deal, a 20 package deal, or unlimited three month package. A year is a long commitment for someone who normally doesn't work out, let alone how expensive it is. If a smaller package like above presents itself, I will definitely be more likely to sign up! Also, when I bought the five starter class deal it was supposed to come with gloves, but I was told you only get them if you sign up. In September, I completed the 6-week Challenge at FittHarlem and had immediate results. The workouts are intense, but you can go at your own pace & modify. Came here for my first class today. I was a bit hesitated at the beginning about the membership, because it seems a bit expensive. But I really enjoyed my first time here, instructor Jasmine and Tin have been really helpful. The crowd and the atmosphere made me feel very welcomed as well. It started with cardio and then kickboxing. It was not easy for me to follow through the whole cardio part, i haven't worked out for so long, so it's definitely challenging for me. The kickboxing part was fun, you got to learn different moves and got to practice by yourself and with a partner. Knowing that they can transfer you between different locations , I signed up for one year membership. Can't wait to start this new journey with you all. The only downside is that you can't take a shower here. But the bathroom is very clean. read more

ILKB is great. Admittedly, it took a few weeks to get my first class scheduled but I appreciated having a dedicated instructor to walk me through the combinations and exercises for my first class. Classes are organized by a cardio warm up, stretch, bag work, partner work and then a cool down. With all of the different sections, classes tend to fly by. The instructors are motivating and funny. Even if you can't do a move correctly, they offer modifications and always seem to know when you can't do something vs. just being too tired to do something. The entire staff and studio seems like a family and makes you feel welcome whether it's your first class ever or first class in months. My biggest con for this location is that they don't have showers so it's hard to do morning workouts. read more

Issa Scam. So I want to start off by saying that I have had gym memberships to some awesome gyms like TMPL, a few downtown boutique studios via ClassPass. Harlem is somewhat of a fitness dessert compared to lower Manhattan. I was excited to try ILKB because it's closer to my house than downtown fitness studios. I purchased a Black Friday 5 class package. It was priced extremely under value. I was suspicious but I tried. When someone says it's too good to be true it probably is... I accidentally purchased it for Hell Kitchen and sent about four emails and left several voice messages to get it to be honored at the Harlem location which literally had the same promotion. I finally got a call back from Harlem Location several days later and man on the phone who name starts with a D said that he couldn't find me in the system. Maybe it was the too-casual nonchalant phone conversation that I found off putting and unprofessional but... At this point I was exhausted with the run around about scheduling a class and asked for a refund. Most gyms allow you to schedule a class online through an online schedule like MindBody or something but it just seems weird that you have to call and leave a VM to schedule a class. Nobody got time for that! read more

Definitely love iLoveKickboxing! My fiancé and I originally came here because we wanted to try something new. We have never done kickboxing before, so might as well try it out! We bought the Groupon and used it on the last day before expiration. In our first class, we were definitely getting our butts kicked - and this was just during the 15-minute warm-up! We even had a personal ILKB employee to help us clarify/improve our techniques, as we were new to the class. It was a new experience and we ended up spontaneously signing up for 35 more classes! The next few times, once we realized we should actually pace ourselves, were much easier on us. Although we didn't have the personal ILKB employee to help us out, the upbeat and kind instructor will also go around the room to help us out as needed. Although we don't push ourselves to our max limit/pace ourselves to last for the whole hour, it is inspiring being with other people of all different kinds of activity levels put together in one room and exercising together! The classes are pricy, but this is a great way to get one's workout in for the day! read more

I've been going to ILKB Harlem since June of 2017. I absolutely love the intense and full-body workout I get with each class. They push you hard from the warmup on, but it's totally worth it. I like that the instructors play a variety of upbeat music and are helpful, giving both group and one-on-one pointers to help you achieve the best technique and form possible. I will admit that I was slightly surprised when I was called to schedule my first class and that I had to wait a few weeks to actually take the class. Being that I'd done kickboxing before, I didn't see why I couldn't just take the class. But once I did my first class, I got it. They want to help you get comfortable with their techniques and pace of the classes before just letting you go. And yes, there was a sales pitch at the end of my first class, but I wasn't especially bothered by it. I ended up signing up and don't regret it. For a person who prefers classes to just going to the gym and making up your own workout, this was a great option, even though the price was quite a bit more expensive than my other gym membership (which I ended up canceling). While I didn't have any major issues getting in contact with someone and scheduling my first class, I have had friends that voiced that issue since I joined. It may be easier to drop by and try to schedule in person? But overall, I'm very satisfied. read more

I was extremely skeptical about whether I'd enjoy kickboxing but I wanted to try something different. On my way to the gym, I'd been walking by the ILK studio for months so I finally decided to buy the Groupon and give it a try. Because I didn't think I'd like it, I only purchased 4 classes so I wouldn't risk wasting my money. Fast forward three weeks to today, my last class on the Groupon, and boy was I wrong, I love the ILK workout! It's challenging, it's different, fun and you get results pretty quick! The Harlem location is great for me as I live very close by. The instructors are energetic and seem to know what they're doing even though they all have baby faces! And despite some of the other reviews, I never had a problem scheduling my classes with my Groupon. Now to the reason for the two star demerit. Membership is very pricey! Over the years, I have paid top dollar for some nice gyms in new york city and I feel like the offerings were definitely worth it. However, as cool and hip as ILK is, this isn't a full service gym. No towel service, one bathroom for each gender, small locker room, no shower, no juice bars, no extra space for you to workout while a class is going on...you get the point. It's a boutique boxing studio with brightly colored walls, energetic and fun instructors and great workouts!...but without the additional amenities I'm used to at that price point, I can't justify or commit to ILK. With the growing popularity and the changing pricing model of gyms in general, I hope their prices fall to a reasonable level soon. read more

ILKB/ Fit Theorem... whatever you want to call it, it's BOGUS. I recently saw a 6 wk challenge promo as of it was free. The only thing free was the consultants on which wasn't any consultants on at all just you filling out the form and small talk... just to get to the end for them to tell you it's $599 (I was like $5.99 because ain't no way) for this challenge. Literally canceled an appt I had just to have my time wasted. Like that's ridiculous... Workout Videos are free on YOUTUBE (you need motivation, just look in the mirror, it cost less). I came one (1!) minute late to the class as my travel was slightly delayed from the pouring rain and was not allowed to join the class I signed up for in advance. The class had not yet started and wasn't going to start until 14 minutes after the time I arrived. Of course, the lateness is on me but the fact of the matter is that I was late to being 15 minutes early and was only 14 minutes early. I should have read the other reviews since it shows a pattern that only members get treated how one should be and people who are trying this out through Group On get second-class treatment. This reveals that their true intentions are not related to fitness but rather money (which makes sense I guess since it is a business). If making fitness accessible to all is any kind of priority to them, this kind of treatment would not happen. The workout is good but I would not recommend getting a Group On as only full members get treated well. read more

I love that there are a big mix of people, lots of different ages and sizes, etc Some people are on their 3rd class and some have been coming for years. Its a very supportive and welcoming atmosphere. The classes are intense in the best way. And he instructors are fun and attentive. Great Stress reliever too! The workout itself is very challenging and I appreciate their willingness to modify certain skills to accommodate my injury. Believe the other reviews. This is a very poorly run business. Of the 4 times I've been, 3 times they said I didn't sign up when I did. Either some one is very disorganized or they intentionally neglect folks who purchase discount deals and don't sign up for their membership which is an outrageous $200/month deal. I'm going to give three stars because I was told this is a black-owned franchise and the staff seems generally upbeat. But.... My experience today warrants a 1 star. I showed up today for my scheduled appointment 15 min early. A young guy was at the desk and he was helping a lady. When he turns to me, he asks how he can help me and I mention that I have a scheduled appointment but I'm 15 minutes early. He proceeds to tell me that he wished I hadn't or I shouldn't have come early because now he can't go in the back. I thought he was joking so I played along and said, "why is that?" He then tells me that I have to be watched so I don't steal their merchandise because it's happened before. He then adds, "you don't look like a thief, but I don't know you. " I'm thinking woooooooow. So I asked him, "ya'll don't have cameras?" And he says something along the lines of how is that going to catch someone. Idk I just pretended I heard that part. So I sat down. A few minutes go by and he comes from around the desk and says, something about how I can wait in the lobby area since she's here (the customer he was initially speaking with when I walked in) and then locks the front door and goes back behind the desk. At that point I'm thinking, WTF was that? So I'm offended at this point. He then calls me up to tell me to have my Groupon voucher ready in a moment while he prepares everything. He goes on to ask if I'm mad. Because he basically just accused just ME (not the other customer) of potentially being a thief under no grounds whatsoever. And I told him, its not that deep especially if there are cameras. Or hold id's if it is that serious. Sidebar: What I was thinking is: Nobody wants that bullsh*t! Plus aren't they insured!? And why don't they invest in a display case that locks like some of the Duane Reades do!? But I digress. My point is how is that okay to treat a potential customer? How? Thats BAD BUSINESS. Even if that's how they felt, they weren't supposed to make me feel like that. (It's the same feeling some ppl must get when they stand near a woman who gets scared for no reason and decides to clutch her purse tighter). He goes on to tell me that people try to steal gloves. So I ask why, because they come free with my groupon. He tells me that they are not free. They are borrowed and have to be checked back in at the end of class. So now I feel mislead in addition to feeling disrespected. There ended up being an issue with my Groupon that I don't 100% agree with. But I suppose it is for the best in my case. The young man told me I could still take the class if I paid FOH. But despite being annoyed by everything, I decided to make a classy exit. I remained polite and calm as I said okay and walked towards the exit... up until I ran in to a locked door, and had to turn back and ask for help. ‍ what a disheartening experience. I bought a Groupon for 10 classes. The gym is nice and clean and the workouts are FANTASTIC. All the staff are super nice and helpful. I especially enjoyed the classes with Ting and Dainer. I was new to kickboxing but in just a few weeks I felt stronger and in better shape. I liked that the class was organized into warm up/cardio, bag work, partner work, then cool down. The hour goes by super fast. The only downfall--and it's a significant one--is that membership is super expensive! $120/month plus a membership fee (can't remember exactly how much but it was around $100 bucks). I felt a bit pressured to sign up (the staff asked me every week if was going to sign up for the membership) but I just couldn't afford it. I ended up signing up for less expensive kickboxing classes elsewhere. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE! Not worth the price!!!! I got a membership with Fit Theorem Harlem, which was overpriced! I didn't mind at first because I felt like the classes can whip me into shape. After my third class, my ankle was injured and I was told by my doctor to not take classes until further notice. I immediately informed them about my injury and because I had already taken 2 classes under the "members only", I was not able to get a refund of $424 that I paid for 1 month of classes. It felt like a scam. Unfortunately, I will not recommend this class to anyone. I would rather pay equinox prices instead of go to this location. The instructors were nice but customer service is terrible and it seems like they are overpriced especially to be located in Harlem. The wording they used is very manipulative. My followers will be informed about this company because It seems like they care more about money instead of the health of their clients. Giving me half my money back was not the decision that should have been made, especially since I have proof of my injury. read more

It's so much fun and high energy. I haven't had the time to go in a long time but when I rarely do I love it. The instructors are fun, patient, and friendly. They really motivate you to work. Not a fan of the partner work at the end due to my introvert personality, I just want to work on my own, get it done and leave, but it's a minor discomfort. I think the workout here is fantastic and the community is very nice but I am incredibly unhappy with the service here. I was so excited to work out here and was working my way through a 10-class card with the intention of becoming a member when I completed my class card. Three times, I followed rules that employees told me to be able to sign up and attend class, and I was told at the front desk that I didn't follow their process correctly and therefore couldn't take class even though there was space available and I was on time. The third time I was turned away, the instructor was helping relay information to me and another employee came up to her and said "I'll deal with HER." She was very frustrated with me, rolling her eyes, refusing to give me contact information for a manager or someone I could talk to about the inconsistent messaging I've been getting. I was not rude or angry, and I felt I was treated really poorly. I understand that the studio have rules that the employees must follow, but if they aren't posted anywhere online and no one can be reached for communication, it seems really unfair to constantly shift the rules about when non-members can and cannot attend. Especially when I'm following the instructions I have been told. There are also appropriate ways to communicate information to clients without a hurtful or negative attitude. I was respectful to the employees and honestly so excited and enthusiastic to take classes here. My repeated bad experiences outweigh how much I enjoyed the workout. First of all, if you are a member and you leave 5 star reviews for ilovekickboxing you get free gloves. So the reviews are inflated for this chain in general. Having got that out of the way, I came here in jan 2017/Feb 2017. I had been thinking about joining here for months since I heard that it would be opening so it was not a casual interest. The groupon made me take the plunge. It was a great deal working out to about $3-$4 per class for 10 classes with free gloves. Instructors were highly competent and professional but they do an aggressive hard sell at the end of class that is very offputting. They have one time rates that are still very expensive at about $120/month. It's a 1 year contract and you can't break it unless you move something like 25 miles away which in nyc makes no sense. And if I signed up it would start immediately not after I finished my Groupon! Needless to say I was not ready to sign. I continued to return and realized that all the classes seemed to be the same set? It's a great workout but I wasnt sure I wouldn't get bored. Given that the regular price would be something like $160/month, that there is no ability to drop in on other ILKB, and that the subway commute ended up being inconvenient I did not sign up. But the process to sign up for a class with the voicemails is so inconvenient and unreliable and the hard sell had been so aggressive I stopped after 4 classes and just gave up the rest. I would advice not buying any groupons and just doing the deal where you spend the least overall if you really want to try it out given that any membership you buy starts immediately. 1 year later I joined a competitor kickboxing boutique (CKO) that is half the price, more convenient, has instructors with different styles, and will let you transfer to a different branch if necessary. Even now that I have the resources to spend ILKB prices I'm going to be trying out yet another fitness chain that does not require 1 year contracts and allows drop ins at other locations. I just don't think ILKB is worth the cost unless this is your only convenient fitness option. read more

They continued to charge my credit card during the pandemic (even though their location was closed due to the stay at home order issued by the governor and mayor).
