A friend and I dropped by for an intro class for 20$ each. We signed up for a weekday night session for Kickboxing and Flow with Shanna. The glove rental was 5$ which was well appreciated for my friend who didnt have gear, but I also brought my own MMA gloves to use. Lockers and bathroom at the facility were also amazing. You don't need your own lock, and the bathrooms were stocked with a lot nice products to freshen up post class. Hit House really pushed and challenged us - it was a really cool experience to try out their unique Bishop punching bags. A great workout and I loved how I didn't feel like I was pressured to buy more and buy a membership after our class. Tip: if you do the kickboxing & flow class (yoga) grab a towel so you aren't slipping on the fitness mat for the yoga portion of the class. read more

I attended Richard's first class and I'm so glad I did! For his very first time teaching, Richard did an incredible job. He was super helpful in getting everyone set up with their punching bags and stayed fully engaged throughout the class. Richard clearly explained the flow of the workout, demonstrated each exercise, and made everything easy to follow. I especially appreciated the one-on-one feedback he gave during class, which really helped me improve and correct my form. Glove rentals are only $5, which is more than reasonable considering the class was complimentary. The facilities are great and include all the essentials, like showers, and even a free laundry machine! Took a few classes here on a discount class package I purchased, and left incredibly impressed. I have taken standard kickboxing classes before, but never Muay Thai. It was an interesting experience--great, intense workout which also seemed to add a bit more of a flexibility component with their blocking techniques--or at least some moves that were new to me and my body, which is always a great workout component. Some sessions are all striking, but others incorporate power bags for done cardio and weight training interludes. Instructors were good and encouraging--I was particularly fond of Chrissy. I'd say they are more hands off unless you need help--I felt fine and personally prefer that approach, but I'd say this might be better for people with previous Muay Thai experience, or at least some previous striking experience. What I most enjoyed was their unique Bishop striking bag. Extra padded--I've eeen some complain it doesn't feel authentic, but I thought it was great--I've left some boxing classes with bruised hands, so I appreciated the extra give--felt like it let me give a little extra power without fear of self-harm, and was I personally felt fine striking even with just wraps one time. Space is very nice, clean locker room and gym area, and does have a couple of showers with nice amenities. Easy check-in for class and smooth experience. The studio is clean and well-kept--a couple of the bags feel a little tight together or to the wall, but there are a lot of options (over 30) to sign up for, so unless a class is almost full you should be comfortable. read more

I came to Hit House with little to no knowledge about Muay Thai. This place is amazing for beginners and can set you up with the basics! When you walk in, you are greeted by wonderful, friendly faces. Once you check in, grab a locker and change in the changing rooms. There's a men's and women's changing room with showers, stalls, and even complimentary products for everyone to use!! Each individual is allowed one towel to use and if you need gloves, they sell them at the front or you can rent a pair! There's a water fountain for refills, but if you forgot your water bottle, they sell water too! There are two classes you can choose from: kickboxing combos or combos and power bags. Both are super fun and will make you sweat your ass off. All the instructors are knowledgeable and will patiently guide you through the combos. I promise you won't regret it! ;) read more

I absolutely loved my first class at hit house! The staff is all very friendly and prioritizes customer satisfaction. I had to step out of class for a second and the lovely lady at the computer instantly asked me if everything was okay. HOW ATTENTIVE! Instructor Tyler was great! He's very clear and concise when teaching technique and extremely encouraging! I honestly felt like a fish out of water since it was my first exposure to Muay Thai, but his class instructions were clear and he'd walk around giving individualized feedback. It's a great work out and the music really helps keep you energized. I would love to take consistent classes (eg 4+ times a week), however the prices are high for me (I'm uncertain how the prices compare to similar classes), so I'll have to weigh out my options. The ladies locker room is lovely! It's very clean, a couple of showers and bathroom stalls, and plenty of extra amenities to freshen up. Items included dry shampoo, blow dryer, makeup remover, hair ties, face washes, and even detoxifying charcoal masks! Charcoal masks?? Their attention to detail is outstanding. For someone who's practiced Muay Thai for over a decade, I was reluctant to come with a friend to check out this place since there's been an uptick on "trendy" boxing classes (ie shadowbox, rumble, grit e.t.c) all of which are nothing more than loud music, no direction type of classes to get your next IG photo. However Hit House actually emphasizes on technique instead of letting you go free with no idea what you're doing. Tyler was the instructor and it was clear that he understood the fundamentals and techniques of Muay Thai. If you're looking for a cardio kickboxing class with technique I'd recommend this place out of all others. For those looking for a gym to learn the sport and learn the art, this is not one of those places and rightfully so. Only took one star off since the "bishop" which is their hybrid punching/kicking bag is just extremely too soft for doing such things, but that's just a personal preference. read more

Took a class here after walking by a million times and thinking "I should try that studio." It was my second time trying muay thai -- first time was at five points academy which I felt was a better experience of connecting mind, body and soul together to work out. The instructor, Joe, walked around to briefly correct people but didn't really form too thoroughly at any point so I'm not sure I was doing anything accurately. He was also kind of quiet during the class so a lot of the moves weren't clear to me even though the class was small. The music was also strange, they played some Taylor Swift, some screamo and then a few Drake songs. I don't think I'd come back, I wasn't sore and didn't feel super challenged in the class. My friend Lena recommended this studio to me: "I don't do Rumble. I do Hit House," she scoffed at me when I asked her if she boxed. So then of COURSE I had to come check it out. I lucked out because my first class ever was basically a private lesson with Tyler because nobody else showed up (the studio was very new back then) and THAT set the foundation and interest for me in Muay Thai (v important!). From then on, I've also taken classes with Jen and Ben, and they were both great--super patient and very knowledgeable. The foundational skills I built with Tyler from that first class help me greatly; I recommend taking an initial private lesson to really understand the depth of Muay Thai (the mechanics behind each move) because the group classes do not dive that deeply. The studio itself is beautiful with all you would need, but the main reason why I love this place above any other is THE AMAZING VIBES!! You can tell they're not about trying to make a quick buck and that they really believe in the philosophy of Muay Thai and enjoy what they do. I've been coming to Hit House every week for over a month. I think they filtered all the annoying stuff out of traditional kickboxing gyms. Luxury style gym with modern amenities. Small classes. Everyone can work at the own pace. Super soft proprietary punching bags that you can't hurt yourself on at all. The shape is also ergonomic to let you know where to land different punches. Warm-ups are super brief which gives you the entire class to do bag work. I've only been to Joe and Tyler's classes. I would say Tyler's is a bit more challenging, but Joe's is better for beginners. Some cons are that we don't learn any defense moves and all group classes are beginner level. I really just come here to practice basic boxing moves and get my fill of cardio for the week because I only do weightlifting and light mobility training the rest of the week. This isn't a gym for serious traditional muay thai training. That's not an insult at all, but it is what it is. It's a fun modern workout class that's very stress-relieving and empowering. read more

I consider myself the anti-boutique gym goer but I did not feel any pretentious vibe from this clean, stylish and friendly space. Went here on ClassPass and loved how they clean the mats before and after classes and Tyler (instructor both times) was kind, professional and instructive. If I wasn't so set on going to Martial Arts (BJJ) I'd consider this gym, except based off where I work (midtown west) and their class schedule - I wouldn't be able to attend as many classes as desired. Tyler - Tyler is the owner and lead instructor of Hit House. He was once a competitive fighter and former soap opera star. This conflation serves as the perfect recipe for the ideal instructor. His fighting background enables him to incorporate knowledge into the classes helping the students not only get a great workout but learn how to box properly. His acting background is demonstrated by his energetic personality that makes every class fun, enjoyable, and engaging. Bishop - Bishop is the name of the bag, which was created by him for the class. It is soft to the touch as many Rumble, Shadowbox alumni have complained about sore wrists/knuckles as hitting a heavy bag for an extended period of time is not healthy. Bishop is a revolutionary take on a heavy bag that eliminates the above issue. Facility - The facility is as aesthetic and clean as it is state of the art. The digital lockers were convenient as a heavy lock is cumbersome to carry around and the showers are a nice luxury allowing a customer to pop in for a quick class on the way to work, brunch, etc. without having to go home post-class. The exposed brick gives the facility a real urban NYC feel, allowing the customer to partake on his/her fitness journey in an authentic environment. read more

I tried hit house with Tyler for the first time yesterday morning and loved it! I have never taken any sort of Muay Thai class so I think I was the newbie by far. The Bishop bags are so much better than traditional boxing bags because of the softness and shape (it's easier to picture a person lol). I also liked all the kicks and full body engagement there was throughout the class. The facilities were clean and bright too. I signed up for an 8 am class through classpass and was 6-7 minutes late because of the stupid J train.. but the girl at the front desk cheerily welcomed me in. This is by far my favorite workout and studio! The workout is intense but you set your own pace.. I always walk out feeling like an exhausted little bad ass. Hit House is intense! It's pure Muay Thai. I absolutely love that most of the class consists of beating the sh** out of "Bishop." There's a brief warm-up followed by 8 rounds of ass whooping. After the initial warm-up, the instructor goes over the proper technique for punches, kicks, elbows, and knees. After that, all hell breaks loose. After 8 rounds of striking Bishop, you walk away drenched in sweat. You literally feel the fat melting off your body. This is a great work out with the advantage of zero-contact striking (that means no one is going to hit you!) Everyone I've come across is very VERY friendly and the instructors have been extremely professional. The music is energetic and the environment has such a positive vibe. read more

I really really like this place. I get an amazing workout while doing cool stuff. I found Hit House because they were hosting a fundraiser for an animal rescue I follow. I have been doing Crossfit for the past 2 years and it has been taking a toll on my body so I decided to switch things up. The place is really clean with the best equipment and amenities. The workout is a full body experience. Cardio, strength, fighting skills and ab work. What more could you want? The owners are present and are so nice. The coaches have great attitudes. Another review that I will regret writing because I know it'll just make this place more popular than it already is, but hey, they deserve that and more. I've tried quite a few $30+ classes in the city and they are all filled with super fit, super intimidating instructors and clientele. The classrooms are usually filled with mirrors and all the beautiful class-takers are checking themselves out in them at all times. Meanwhile, me, miss-regular-degular-schmegular, I'm just sweating in the back trying as hard as I can to suck in my tummy and look cute so not to look as out of place. I end up not pushing myself too hard because I don't want to look like the fool who actually has to exert effort. The horror. This was not the case at hit house. First, there are no mirrors and no light so comparing yourself to the person in front, next to, or behind you is not a thing. I felt very welcomed and the environment was filled with people of all levels just trying to get their punch on in the dark to some loud/aggressive music. These things make this gym unique and a great place for beginners, people who are out of shape, and those that just want to workout without all the added perfectionist pressure. Another unique aspect of this gym/the classes is that they just aren't trying to do too much. Like Rumble, for instance, wants you to punch on beat to fast techno song , while switching between one of their 65 pieces of equipment at your station and then flit back and forth from one end of the gym to the other passing the other 30 sweaty people every 5 minutes for 45 minutes in the dark with the music changing with every combo change, monitors everywhere counting down, and the instructor yelling about how happy he is that this was his first sold out class. That's too much, that's not how a boxing class should be. Then you have the Everybody Fights type of gym where newcomers are welcome, but aren't really welcome because the classes are too hard and they do not offer modifications for people who are very out of shape (and they don't even ask if anyone needs a modification, because that's not their style). None of this is the case at Hit House. At Hit House, it's you, the bag, the floor, your thoughts, and a few hot jams. That's it. If you need modifications, the instructor is open and willing to offer that to you. But the instructors don't over complicate the art of of a boxing/ muy thai workout. I will be coming back as often as possible and I look forward to the continued growth of this gym. read more

Dear Hit House, I miss you. YOU MUST TRY THESE WORKOUTS. I have been going to Hit House for over 1 year now. I remember being nervous for my first class (can I handle Muay Thai!?) but am absolutely hooked now. I can sometimes feel awkward at fitness classes not knowing what to do but the staff at Hit House makes you feel 100% comfortable and capable. Better yet? I feel great when I leave! I'm sweating (in a good way) and have accomplished something instead of biked for 30 mins to nowhere. They have Bishop, these awesome floor-to-ceiling bags that you elbow and knee your heart (or carbs) out on and the instructor is right there with you. I have been doing their Zoom classes (which are awesome too! HIGHLY RECOMMEND) but I miss my friend Bishop too. I can't wait to get back in there. Went to my first class today. Was a great workout! I wish the instructor was more clear with the actual technique of how to execute the moves. She was very nice and sweet, though. They use a bishop which is softer and plushier instead of a punching bag. I was able to focus on my movement instead of the strength I was using on the bags. Super friendly staff especially on the front desk. They have a small locker section right across the front desk and a M and F bathroom area. Free towels and water dispenser. The place was super clean and modern. There is a main studio which is where most group classes are held and a smaller private studio for private classes. You will leave your shoes at the locker because they are not necessary for the class. I've been to CKO a couple times and would think this is an easier class compared to CKO. CKO also includes more cardio which I prefer but Hithouse would make a good beginner class. read more

I've been taking online classes on Zoom weekly during the pandemic and they are AWESOME. I cannot recommend enough! They're affordable, each class format is different, and everything is challenging, FUN, and keeps me motivated. Did I mention that classes are hard? But a manageable hard! I'm a terrible boxer but the teachers are supportive, offer corrections and advice, and make me feel like a pro every time. I can't wait to take in person classes here when things re-open. I have been to the group classes a couple times and tonight, by luck (AKA snow) I had the opportunity to have a personal 1 on 1 with Tyler. Wow! I think everyone needs this! I have come out of every class red-faced and dripping sweat (NOT ventilation related!). After tonight however, with the instruction and guidance of Tyler, I was able to improve my form and really feel power behind my force (Still red & sweaty, with added soreness). At first i was reluctant to try muay thai until my friend introduced me. So far I've been having fun and even though i'm completely new the staff has been so helpful. They are very patient and although i'm a beginner i can tell they know what they're talking about. The facility is really nice and is kept in really good condition. After each session I feel super tired but that's what great. I feel that coming here is a great way to get your cardio and still have fun while doing it. read more

I wish I could've had as good of an experience as many others here have had. Although Hit House touts itself as appropriate for all skill levels, my experience with Jon as the instructor did not live up to that ideal. It was my first time doing a boxing class, so naturally I was unfamiliar with the moves and exercises. The instructor was somewhat impatient and condescending in tone when "correcting" the class members, myself included. It would've been nicer had he been more encouraging and open to those with all levels of experience. Also, he was on his phone during the routines and seemed distracted/uninterested. My friend and I agreed that we probably would've enjoyed the class with a different instructor, but unfortunately this has soured our view of the gym. We won't be back. I must say, though, the receptionist was lovely and the facility itself is immaculately maintained with great amenities. So, if you're more familiar with boxing and don't need additional instruction from a dedicated individual, this may be perfect for you! However, if you're a beginner, I'd advise looking elsewhere. read more

What can I say. Hit house is the best. I need to keep in top shape physically because my body is my job and this place delivers. I truly enjoy attending all the instructors classes. I preferably love Tyler's class. He's very knowledgeable in Muay Thai and caters to all levels attending his class. GORGEOUS, CLEAN studio and EXCELLENT class. I have never taken a Muay Thai class before, so I was a little hesitant to try it. I'm so glad I did! The instructor teaches proper form and then you work through several rounds of combinations during which you kick and punch your Bishop heavy punching bag. The class is incredibly challenging and stimulating, but also low-pressure. Since this was my first time, I was obviously quite terrible at times. However, the instructor (whom I later learned is also the owner) was patient and encouraging. I got a great workout and also had A LOT of fun. How many workouts are actually FUN?! Not many... This is a great Muay Thai class for all levels; would highly recommend! The instructor goes over the basic punches and kicks in the first 5 to 10 minutes of class. Then, during the next 50 minutes of class, you can try your hand at combinations of punches, kicks, knees, and elbows on the punching bags, interspersed with cardio and core workouts. One of the things that sets this place apart from other boxes studios (I.e. rumble) is that the instructor actually goes around to give people pointers. This means you can spend more time learning proper technique and getting the most out of your boxing workout, rather than flailing at your bag. An additional plus- at least for me- is that the studio teaches combinations of punches AND kicks so that the workout is full body, rather than upper body focused (as in other boxing studios in the city). The facilities are beautiful and clean, and the instructors are great. Bonus: the showers (three) and bathrooms are super spacious. read more
