I absolutely loved my first class at hit house! The staff is all very friendly and prioritizes customer satisfaction. I had to step out of class for a second and the lovely lady at the computer instantly asked me if everything was okay. HOW ATTENTIVE! Instructor Tyler was great! He's very clear and concise when teaching technique and extremely encouraging! I honestly felt like a fish out of water since it was my first exposure to Muay Thai, but his class instructions were clear and he'd walk around giving individualized feedback. It's a great work out and the music really helps keep you energized. I would love to take consistent classes (eg 4+ times a week), however the prices are high for me (I'm uncertain how the prices compare to similar classes), so I'll have to weigh out my options. The ladies locker room is lovely! It's very clean, a couple of showers and bathroom stalls, and plenty of extra amenities to freshen up. Items included dry shampoo, blow dryer, makeup remover, hair ties, face washes, and even detoxifying charcoal masks! Charcoal masks?? Their attention to detail is outstanding. There's also complimentary lockers to store valuables and $2 rentals for wraps/gloves.

Review for Ronin Athletics - Gracie Jiu-Jitsu School in NYC…read more I've heard so much about Jiu-Jitsu from various podcasts as one of the most effective martial arts. It piqued my curiosity, but I was specifically looking for something that focused on self-defense. That's when I discovered Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, and it led me to Ronin Athletics in Manhattan. What surprised me was learning that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a form of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but prioritizes self-defense rather than the more sport-oriented styles that are widely popular. It's truly a system of self-defense--covering not just grappling but also standing striking defense, which I never realized was part of the practice. Ronin Athletics is the only school I've found in New York City offering authentic Gracie Jiu-Jitsu training directly associated with Rener and Ryron Gracie, sons of UFC founder Rorion Gracie. Their connection to the Gracie brothers ensures the instruction here remains true to the original self-defense philosophy of Jiu-Jitsu. What sets this gym apart is its organized and structured curriculum. Every class is thoughtfully designed, making it easy for beginners to follow while also offering depth for those who want to advance. The collaborative and supportive environment makes it feel incredibly safe to train, especially since they emphasize learning over competition. If you're looking for a self-defense system that's practical, effective, well organized, Ronin Athletics is the place to go. Highly recommend it for anyone in NYC seeking authentic Gracie Jiu-Jitsu!

Regardless of whether you're brand-new to kickboxing or you've been doing it for a while, you're going to get a good workout and maybe learn some new techniques. I've been going to her classes for about two years after doing other kickboxing and boxing classes in the city on and off for about a decade. Again, this is my favorite. Hip Fit just moved its location from the UWS to Hell's Kitchen, and the new studio is fantastic -- spacious, airy, lots of room to throw punches and practice kicks. I highly recommend this if you've either done kickboxing in the past and are looking to get back into it, or if you're brand-new and want to try it out in a supportive environment.

However, I was hooked to kickboxing and boxing the minute I finished the first class. Sure, I was sore like nobody's business and in places where nobody has business being sore. But let me tell you, you will want more. You will come back and you will ask for more of that pain that feels so good. Trust me. My heart has never beat so fast, nor hard and I have not sweat this much at Bikram yoga. I seriously had an adrenaline rush and a bit of an urge to lay down on the floor for a breather....um, you know, a rest. I wish they had a pool or hot tub because that would ensure that I would never leave (That and obviously work and stuff). The trainers are positive motivators who are passionate about perseverance in fitness and give you personal attention. I needed more, so I literally took a CrossFit class a couple hours after coming here. Things to know: Must buy hand wraps, which are $10 They give you shower towels only after class Three shower stalls Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, and deodorant available Gloves are included Bring sneakers, face wash, cream, and flip-flops Things that could use improvement: Lower the music so we can hear instructions Provide face towels for class Focus more on form on the non-boxing stuff Provide friendlier customer service Create a warmer, more welcoming environment Possibly include the wraps, like every other boxing studio does? Probably wouldn't go back, but if you're looking for cardio boxing, it'll do.
