NYSC, if you don't like these comments, then you should recruit employees who treat customers WITH RESPECT. Be warned that the supposed "manager" of this gym NYSC at Harlem 125st, a woman named "Camille" or "Camel" or something like that, according to the message she left on my voicemail, is a QUITE DESPICABLE and negligent person. I am a costumer of NYSC and I have been a costumer of NYSC for the past 12 years. I have been using this Harlem 125 street location for many years, but in a daily basis since 2014. This crazy woman called me one day to tell me I have a problem with my membership. She told me to talk to her. When I went to her office this negligent and irresponsible woman wasn't there. This lazy woman took the day off. The people at the front desk didn't even let me use the restroom. This Camello can be only so tacky to prohibit a member the use of a restoom. This woman Camel stole several days from my account $$$$$ plus 2 hours of transportation each time. Next Sunday I finally talked to this woman: she told some obscure excuse to prohibit me to go to that location: She told me that I sent emails or text messages or whatever was in her skewed mind, to another member who is an exfriend of mine. I told that crazy female Kamil that of course! He was my friend! We exchanged several emails, text messages, etc. What's wrong about it? This untrustworthy woman told me that, because I sent this person text messages and/or emails, I could not use that Harlem location. Ridiculous! Exchanging emails or text messages between individuals outside the gym has nothing to do with the gym or membership, This woman is totally nuts!! Probably she was having a bad day, probably she has some kind of mental disease, whatever reason. That psycho woman claims to be a manager but believe me, she received no MBA, not even from any community college. That woman camil knows nothing about management. Somebody handpicked this woman and told her you will be the "manager." She was dumb by telling me I cannot use the gym because I sent text messages or emails to other person. She was out of her mind. She never explained me beyond the text message excuse. Very obscure woman, very weird! This Kamelle has been the manager of that gym for a few months. The gym is going down. Two years ago it was crowded in the afternoons. Now this gym is almost empty. UPDATE FROM MY FRIENDS NOW THERE IS A BIG CROWD of men masturbating/sex in showers in the sauna like never before since this woman arrived and became "the manager." She is very happy with it. Before this comelo came to this gym, the locker room was quiet. Beware also of racism at that Harlem NYSC location. If you are not black like Camel, or the man who took her place the day she wasn't there, or the man I talked to on the phone the day they denied access to me, then they will very likely discriminate you like they did to me. Nice gym, nice cleaning people, DISGUSTING management and upper management. If you join, get a lawyer to sue this woman Camille and NYSC for the last cent they have. The company is doing really badly, they have only 2 years of cashflow to live. They are trying to sell it but no one is buying it. This happens to NYSC for having "managers" like Kamille who are there just making experiments with people as part of her learning process. Kamila made a big mistake and she does not want to accept it, neither her supervisors. Kamila is very irresponsible and negligent, this is what happens when someone handpicks a "manager" who knows nothing about management. Kamile should be honest and apologize for the mistake she made. all the money the thief camille stole from my account, and for all the damage this "manager" caused. After two months of waiting, the main office finally answered me that because this person Komillo doesn't like me, I have to wait until she is fired or replaced or relocated to be able to use that Harlem location Cornille, make NYSC a favor, and me too, and GO SOON! So I will patiently wait until that irresponsible "manager" Camalo leaves so I can use that Harlem location again. By the way, the staff at that gym are very uneducated. I tried to explain them that NYSC was a public company, the two men I talked to the day I was denied access to the gym told me NYSC is a private company. NYSC is in Nasdaq, at least last time I checked. They have no idea about business, management, public, or private companies. This company needs to replace all from the CEO Gallagher to the "managers" to survive. Giardina, the previous experienced NJ CEO they had, jumped off the sinking boat a few weeks ago. In case this woman Camello lies and claims she didn't said that, all the crazy things she said to me on that day are on my cell phone. Our lawyer is checking copies of the contract. I moved to Hoboken a few years ago but attempted to still commute to my old martial arts gym (over an hour away) for a few months. While impractical, the idea of walking into a new gym full of new people was intimidating. On one of these commutes, I was stuck in traffic and extremely late to class. I made a knee jerk decision to turn the car around and walk in to Edge Hoboken for their evening Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class after hearing about it from a friend. I called the main number and spoke with the manager Jeff, who warmly invited me to come in immediately. I was nervous - it's tough to be the new guy in a class where they teach chokes and arm locks but that feeling quickly went away. Jeff gave me a tour and to my surprise, the mat space was incredible. There were two (clean!) locker rooms complete with showers (even a sauna), and an upstairs lounge. As the class started I was thrilled to learn that it was instructed by professional MMA fighter and Renzo Gracie black belt David Branch. I was really impressed with how he was able to break down complex moves into easy to follow steps. Everyone was relaxed and friendly and went out of their way to introduce themselves to me. I couldn't believe a place like this was in my own backyard! I signed up that day. Since then, Edge has become like my second home. What makes this gym stand out from so many others is the caliber of the instructors; Since joining the gym I have watched coach David Branch win a world MMA title as the World Series of Fighting Middleweight champion. The wrestling staff is packed with decorated Division one veterans who are always willing to share their craft, and their Muy Thai / striking instructor is an experienced and knowledgeable tactician. While it's not uncommon to see elite and big name MMA, Jiu Jitsu, and wrestling practitioners on the mats at Edge Hoboken, The true nature of this place is that it welcomes everyone from the beginner to the veteran competitor. The Edge has changed my life. I have been training at this gym since day one, 4 years ago. I never trained MMA, and I lifted weights for 7 years. I used to come for a workout, to learn some MMA, BJJ, Boxing, and Wrestling. After about a year, I cancelled my other gym (NYSC) and completely stopped lifting weights. I fell in love with MMA and BJJ. Not only is it a great workout, it's fun, challenging, and your skill level continually improves. Over the past 4 years I have made very close friends with the guys and girls at the gym. The gym has grown substantially over 4 years from 5 students to probably over 100 now. I can tell you that everyone treats each other with respect, and it's like a big family. The students also hang out outside the gym, so this is also a great place to meet new friends! The Edge always holds events for the UFC Fights at places such as Wicked Wolf, and a lot of the students come out to attend. The instructors at Edge are world class. Dave Esposito, owner and national champion wrestler, is one of the best coaches in the game. There have been some of the best UFC and Pro MMA talent that have held wrestling training camps at the gym to be coached by Dave. Our gym has seen the likes of Frankie Edgar, Rashad Evans, and Demien Maia! Coach Jeff Marsh (Michigan Wrestling Alum) is awesome as well. Our head jiu jitsu black belt instructor and current WSOF middleweight is the most technical and knowledgeable instructor I have ever had. Not only that, he is a cool dude and down to earth. Let's get this out of the way right now -- if you're looking for a boxing/tae bo/full contact Zumba class where you can swat at the air and chit chat with your trainer about your day at the office then Edge is not for you. If there's one thing Edge isn't its a gimmick gym where every class is a self contained and predictable work out. What Edge Hoboken is is professional instruction on various aspects of mixed martial arts. Whether you're attending a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class with Dave or a Muay Thai class with GJ you are being taught by guys who have first hand MMA experience! In fact, you'll sometimes hear Dave fondly reminisce during his instruction about tapping other professional fighters out using the various locks and holds.. it's charming in a this-guy-could-kill-a-man-in-eight-different-ways sort of way. Now, don't think that every person here is looking to sign a contract with the UFC (though there are several!) nor that it's populated by juiced up rage freaks. One of the best things about Edge is that there are NO egos at here and everyone is welcoming and encouraging towards your individual goals. At Edge, I found a second family. I came to Hoboken about 6 years ago and joined NYSC for my regular work out. After a couple of years, I was looking to doing something new and find again a feeling of camaraderie that I had when playing basketball when I was younger. I always wanted to learn to boxe, so I gave Edge a try. I did my free trial week and never left. It is the only gym of its kind in the area. If you are looking to seriously learn to fight, wrestle or grapple, this is the place to go. The teachers are top notch, yet accessible and down to earth. The regulars make you feel welcome regardless of your level. I was a beginner and I never felt left out. I learned so much in only a couple of month that I felt more confident rapidly and made me want to learn even more. I was hooked. This place is definitely for people who are looking into learning technique and fight. They also have 2 levels of training. Beginners and Advanced that allows for some sparring. I recently joined Edge Hoboken and my experience with the staff/instructors has been wonderful. Prior to me joining in 2012 I was looking for something different then the typical gym/run routine. I looked for a couple of years not finding that perfect match. Fortunately my wife found an Edge Hoboken Groupon online and that began my journey into MMA. I informed the staff of my novice or should I say no experience in regards to Mix Martial Arts. They easily informed me that this will not be a problem and began my 20 mins of orientation for Muay Thai and Boxing(free I might add). In addition, the staff was understanding and supplied me equipment until I got around to purchasing my own items. I stumbled across Edge online as I was searching for wrestling instruction for my 8 year old son. What a great find!!! In addition to all the great feedback you will here on Yelp, I'd like to add that their approach to young kids is spot on. It is not easy to "drop down" to a child's level when you are a nationally ranked wrestler, but Coach Jeff, Gerry, and David are naturals with kids! I am impressed with their consistent level of expertise and professionalism coupled with genuine kindness. This combination is rare in my experience and makes me all the more committed to this practice for my son. Coach Jeff has made it pretty clear in his approach and in his genuine manner that wrestling is just as much about building character, confidence and purpose as much as it's about achieving great prowess on the mat. My first time stepping into this gym I was extremely nervous due to its reputation of having world class coaching. What I didn't know was these high caliber coaches were also one of the nicest and most down to earth humans I've ever met. First day there the two head coaches Espo and Marsh, introduced themselves to me and within the next five minutes I was drilling with coach Marsh. I have been a member of this gym for over 5 years now, and it's more than a wrestling/MMA gym, it's a family. To this day I still ask for advice from Marsh and Espo, not only in wrestling, but anything outside of wrestling. Even after knowing these guys for 5 plus years I'm still in awe watching the level of coaching these guys provide. It's not something you can find anywhere. I joined Edge Hoboken back in November 2011, and all I can say is Amazing. It's amazing from the trainers, environment, and the people. It's the environment where its constant positivity and motivation. I joined because I've always been interested in MMA and could lose a few pounds, mission accomplished lost 17pounds within two months of working out at edge Hoboken. Edge Hoboken and their trainers are very detailed in their training techniques whether it's muay Thai, Brazlian jiu jitsu, boxing or wrestling they break everything down so it's easier to understand and learn. I love this place!! All the coaches are really great and nice: Jeff, Marc, Scott, and Steve are my favorites to work with. They're very professional and super nice, and will always help me whether it's something with my account or on the mats. The whole atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming. The facility is clean and organized, and there's an upstairs section where you can relax or eat. I love coming to train and working with the people who come here. I just joined Edge Hoboken as my New Years resolution to get back into Brazilian jiu-jitsu after three years away from the sport (basically in the beginners category again) and what a great decision.
