3 reasons I train at the Dogpound every time I visit New York: 1. The vibe here is unique! It's a family and it's a baddass one 2. Trainers are extremely knowledgeable. I learn something new every time I go and that's priceless if you are really interested in improving your performance. 3. Equipment selection is just perfect! Wouldn't change a single thing. If you are serious about your fitness game, this is where you should be working out! Try it out and thank me later. read more

Dogpound - Trainers Near Me - New York, New York

These guys and girls just know how to kick you butt. Aside for that, they motivate you to want to kick your own butt. They, above all others will make you feel like the change will take place by "smashing it" not alone, but together...they will be there for you, they will drive you, they will push you, but ultimately make you want to take yourself to that next level. They will 1000% push you harder than you have ever been pushed. But also, they will joke with you, they will focus on you, they will make you feel like you can break through a wall. In addition, they will be able to do any and all exercises that they ask you to do and they could prob each do it 100 times, perfectly. That, in and of itself, will make you want to do it and do it right. They are some of the nicest, most driven, down to earth people...expert trainers...motivators...friends, in the business. Go here. Change yourself. Thank yourself. Make some friends for life and enjoy that change for life. read more

I had a training (boxing) session with Stephen or Steven, this was a few months ago. I felt like his attitude was very lackluster; he just didn't seem to be very into it at all! I had been sick and was only just recently starting to work out again for the first time in a while so my stamina was low, and he just made me feel bad about myself. He wasn't very encouraging or enthusiastic, like I wasn't worth training and he drew the short stick. Maybe it's because I'm not famous or a model? For $200 a session, I would expect my trainer to at least look like he wants to be there! Never went back. I put 2 stars because he seemed like he knew what he was doing training wise (he just acted like he didn't want to do it) read more

The best. They make you feel like part of the Smash City family. The staff and whole atmosphere is super warm, friendly, inspiring, encouraging and inclusive. I usually train with Christian - who is absolutely excellent, so upbeat and motivating - but have also had sessions with Sechew and Spencer, who were both brilliant too. I am overweight and frankly rubbish at exercising even though I quite enjoy it but the Dogpound team really gets me into it and makes you want to try and do your best plus there is absolutely no judgement or body shaming. It's the friendliest most inspiring gym ever. Can not recommend it highly enough read more

Let me begin by saying that I have had many experiences with all types of trainers. From California to New York every single trainer has let me down or not ended up being anything too special. As a flight attendant I have an extremely irregular schedule and I was looking for a trainer who would be committed and flexible and really be on board with me to get my body to the next level. Fast forward to a couple of months ago and while looking on Yelp I stumbled upon DOGPOUND. My first thought was "this sounds like tough, militant, no nonsense training and maybe I should give them a shot, after all they have all five star glowing reviews online". So I did. My search for the perfect trainer has ended. I chose to workout with Kirk Myers (one of the owners) and he has turned out to be the most knowledgable, committed, enthusiastic, kind and enjoyable guy to spend an hour with each day. I used to dread workouts and now I feel excited for each workout knowing that Kirk is going to guide me in the right direction and push me to the next level with his unique approach to fitness. I have a ways to go but so far I am very happy with the great results I am seeing with my body. Let me also mention that if you think this is going to be your typical experience in another snobby high end gym with lots of attitude, think again. The DOGPOUND team literally rally's around their clients and introduces everyone to each other as they work out to create a feeling of community amongst their clients and trainers. It's awesome. The DOGPOUND environment has a feel of Zero judgement and 100% support while everyone has a great time doing their thing. These guys aren't cheep but let me tell you they are worth every fucking penny and more. I encourage anyone to try these guys out, you will not be disappointed, I guarantee it! read more

Just came back from the gym with DogPound and they literally wrecked me in the most awesome way possible. Every minute training with them we do something different. Time flies to the point where you almost lose track. All the staff is extremely friendly and encouraging. Though you may only have one trainer per session all the trainers are all pushing you even if it's for a split second. When I was asked where I feel it, I had to catch my breath and say everywhere. Nothing like the feeling of coming out of the gym and thinking I worked for that shit. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone that wants the training and the discipline. read more

ALL AROUND AMAZING!!!!! Lets talk about of Band of Brothers (and a sister I saw :) that love fitness and getting people the results they want to see!! I have to say, after going to another PT studio and not only being bored with the same-old routine, but the trainers were actually mean to each other (i guess competing over clients??) DOGPOUND was like joining a second family, LITERALLY!!! And not to mention they train in the ultra-swank David Barton Gym (but they are getting there own space soon...exciting!!) NOW to the real stuff, the workout. LORD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR BODY, by the third exercise, your legs will be shaking, asking for water breaks, sweat dripping all over your mat. And I'm no beginner (albeit slightly out of shape) but these are no easy tasks. But the best part, the motivation behind it! They're not talking your ear off, distracting you from the workout, nor barking at you like you are subhuman, but the best combo of both. Taking my mind off the task while making sure I'm doing it right, all 15 reps!!! Honest best part to me, you never work with the same trainer back to back, and believe me, its beneficial. Its a new workout every week , a new set of motivation, a new set of eyes on your body and your skills letting you know what you're doing right and what you can improve on. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!! COME AND SMASH IT !!!!! read more

Great trainers. Super motivating. I dislike working out. But love working out here!!!!. The best.

Kirk Fitness isn't just personal training, it's a whole knew way of looking at yourself and the rest of the world. The most positive guy I know. The glass is always half full and his energy and passion for what he does is seen in every training session. With his knowledge, his compassion, and his dedication to his craft I would reccomend him to anyone looking to change their life through fitness, and a positive way of thinking. Well it's just a crossfit gym. Nothing more and nothing less. They charge the average amount of money for a trainer. But let's be real, they have marketing down... they get ppl to selfie their company and that makes other ppl want to go. It does not mean this gym is better than any other gym.. it just means they get alot of ppl who dont work out or never have worked out in their life come here and think they are getting a better workout. Do not be fooled by thinking this gym is better than any other gym.. they are just good at marketing read more

I've been training with the DogPound for a few weeks and can already see results and feel amazing. I started training with Brey to increase my core and upper body strength to improve my running and I am already feeling faster and stronger! The workouts are always fun, but be prepared to be pushed to your limits! Brey is the most positive person & knows how to train you to get the results you are looking for. Love every workout session! Highly recommend checking out the AWESOME DogPound team for anything fitness related! read more

I've been training with a few guys in NY, and I, by far get the best pump and best sweat from Kirk Fitness. This is no bs here. My SWOLL arms are a bit in pain as I type this review, because jesus the pump was so good. I walk around like one of those weirdos who can't straighten his arms because the pump was so good. The full body workouts from them (jesus, flipping a giant tire is HARD oh but let's add sprints in between the flipping nbd) are insane -- indeed, they've given me the hardest heavy workout I've gotten in the city. These guys seem to focus on a collection of sets of a few exercises, usually with drop sets and little rest. They're in it to win it, and clearly you are too. They're now starting to train at 5AM! 5! WTF. But training at 5am sounds kind of badass and you're badass so you'll probably want to train at 5. WHY NOT START AT 4? They're training at Gotham Gym these days, it seems, so check them out. The guys are cool -- early in the morning they might offer you an espresso because jesus it's early and YOU NEED TO GET YOUR PUMP. [A lot of women train with them too!] read more

Amazing boxing classes. Leaves you feeling very accomplished. Would recommend for sure! read more

After tried different gyms in several different places throughout United States and Europe, this was the one I liked the least. The place is fine and the visitors are fine but the trainer was so full of himself. It made me and some other people feel uncomfortable. And he got angry when I got tired. read more

Kirk is an amazing trainer and one of the coolest people I've ever had a chance to meet. He has such positive energy that it is nearly impossible not to get energized yourself and put that into your workout. My background is that I have NEVER visited a gym before, and did some P90X stuff at home because, to be honest, I had no clue how to use 3/4s of the machinery found in most gyms. I was quite nervous about getting started and Kirk eased me through it and helped find the energy and motivation to keep learning more and pushing myself harder. I've shopped around and had experiences with many trainers in the city, and Kirk is one of the best. He understands what it's like to not be a really fit guy to begin with and a noob in the gym and helped coach me through the whole process. I'm feeling better than I ever have before about my physical strength and appearance (getting more lean and cut) and have received many compliments since working with him. read more

I had such a great experience training with Brey. I've been working out for quite some time, but had hit a wall in my workouts. He knows how to motivate you mentally and encourage you to make the last set really count. His workouts are creative, and he mixes up the workouts by using a variety of equipment and movements which helps the time go by quickly. He also frequently incorporates supersets that really make you sweat and get the most out of your time at the gym. The core was engaged the entire time and we finished off the session with a shredding ab workout. When you're done you feel insanely accomplished. Most important, this guy is passionate about what he does and he knows what he's doing. Brey's workouts are always on point and he delivers. He reads his clients really well and can tell whether or not an exercise needs to be more challenging or modified based on strength and skill level. His positive attitude is infectious and any session with him instantly puts you in a better mood - I'm not sure if he ever stops smiling. He genuinely cares about his clients, and does the little things that really stand out and will keep me going back, such as greeting you with a water bottle and towel. Highly recommend! read more

In the simplest of words: I've never had a better workout in my life, and I've never felt more inspired by creativity and individuality in workouts than at the Dogpound. I absolutely cannot wait to go back to such a family, and truly hope to work there one day. read more

I'm out of town for a boxing tournament and needed a place to workout and sweat a bit, and to check weight. Great facilities and a lot of energy. Trainers looked top notch (had my Coach with me). It is cross fit oriented but it looks like they could make a great program for whatever your goals are. Staff was very helpful and courteous. read more

Lazy to Motivated in 6 months 6 months ago I went to DogPound hoping for some trainers that I could commit to training with while in town. I'm beyond lazy when it comes to fitness. Various health issues stopped me from exercising and though cleared for it, I just wasn't going. I honestly thought I was hopeless but knew I had to go and figured if I paid for it, I'd go. Knowing it wouldn't be too many times a month, I wanted trainers that would be intense and super knowledgeable. Shows what I know! Within months I was actively LOOKING FORWARD to "smashtime" missing it on my off days. I even started seeing the inside of hotel gyms during work trips- something I'd never done before- just cause I was missing the feel of exercising so much! The best part of the dogpound team actually has nothing to do with working out. You could get any knowledgeable trainer and start seeing results with consistent commitment. The best part of DogPound is being warmly invited into the DogPound family. Kirk, Dawin, Brey, Dennis, Rhys, Keyla... They MAKE you a part of the team and you have no choice but to step up to the plate. They are so dedicated and passionate about helping you make your fitness goals that there is no doubt that their number one goal is you reaching yours! The energy and motivation that they bring to the table is above and beyond what any other group of trainers could hope for. Not to knock other trainers- there are some amazing ones out there, but the DogPound crew is just galaxies ahead! read more

I absolutely love dogpound! It is my happy place :) I have been going for a little over two months and my body has completely changed. Everything is tighter and I am so much stronger. They're are a few things that make dogpound the best. I have been going for more than two months 2-3 times a week and not one workout has been the same. The energy these guys have is incredible. You could be having the worst day, go to dogpound, get your butt kicked and leave on cloud 9. Brey, Kirk, Dawin, Rhys, Keyla and Dennis are the most motivating positive trainers and people all around. They make the hardest workout actually fun, you won't believe how fast the workout goes by. They are fun, hilarious and trainers who know what they're doing and their energy is contagious. The group is dynamic and they know what they're doing actually works. When I first signed up Brey had me send him my goals and he has not stopped pushing me to achieve them. He truly cares and gives you the best workout to get you where you want to be. I cannot say enough good things about this workout and more so team. You're only cheating yourself if you don't give them a try. You'll be obsessed! read more

The thing I LOVE about this entire crew is the overwhelming amount of dedication, passion, and commitment they have to each and every single one of their clients. They're the perfect combination of super fun and incredibly tough! These guys live, breathe, work health and fitness. It's not just about working out with them, but rather, it's about embracing the entirety of a healthy life style. When I train with them, I know I won't just be "going through the motions." I know that I'm being pushed to my personal limits and beyond. I've been training with these guys for about 2 years now and am currently in the best shape of my life. They consistently inspire me to be the best version of myself. 2 years ago, I was just doing a bunch of cardio, barre classes and spin. Since I've had the Dogpound in my life, I now have muscles I never knew I could have and feel AMAZING both inside and out. Also, my stamina in my other routine cardio workouts has definitely increased! Each of their trainers are AWESOME and unique with their own personal flare. I would recommend trying all of them. No matter what, you will get your butt kicked and something(s) or maybe even your whole body will be sore after a session (in a good way). These guys know what they're doing. All you have to do is commit. And not only will they match that commitment - they'll SMASH you. I put my full trust and faith in them in helping both myself and anyone reach their fullest potential in fitness! LOVE THE DOGPOUND! read more

Training with Kirk is an awesome experience. His enthusiasm and care that he provides each client is inspirational. He has helped me to surpass my fitness goals and have fun with the process. read more

It's so awesome to work with these guys- I met Kirk and Brey last year when I was trying to shed some winter pounds. I needed some major motivation, new exercises to challenge myself, and someone to kick my ass for a solid hour!!! In contrast to all the checked out, uninspiring Equinox staff trainers I've always observed and never hired for those reasons, all the Dogpound trainers are awesome at encouraging, pushing, and not letting their clients chat for an hour. Training with Brey is awesome!! He leads by example, making sure you're doing each exercise correctly, his energy, positivity (and especially his booty) are very motivating to train with him. As a 44 year old, in shape gay guy trying to maintain my physique, I'm so glad I found these guys- they've been amazing!! read more

Lost 2 inches in my thighs, 1 inch in my waist and gained about 100% more confidence in everything I do in my life. These guys are the real deal. Love love love #DOGPOUND. read more

Kirk is the best! I've been working out with him for about 15 months now and he has changed my life for the better. Kirk is always there for you, for example, I had to work an overnight shift and he was worried about my food intake so he came to my rescue and delivered proteins bars after I worked a 12 hour day. Kirk will always ask his clients how he can be a better trainer and is always looking for ways to improve. He is always willing to listen to his clients and respond to their need. Most of his clients will stop by when they are not working with him because they know he has such positive energy . I have lost 60 pounds since I started and am excited for the next 6 months and the rest of my life. I know I will have more confidence moving forward and I owe it all to Kirk! read more

BEST workout I've ever had. Not like traditional gym trainers repeating reps with weights, my session with BEAST was non-stop different exercises, nothing boring about it. I have used Equinox and trainers there on and off and this was on another level. I was sore during, an hour after and days later which makes me confident in what we accomplished. The gym has energy unlike anywhere else and a real family/team like support while working out. Definitely recommend this gym #SmashIt read more

Kirk and his team are amazing, and I always find that they are positive and excited about my progress as a client, even when it's minor. I never thought I would be the person who says "I love working out" but over the course of the last several months I've actually grown to love working out, and the results are starting to get clear. I'm stronger, leaner, and happier on a day-to-day basis! read more

The great think about training with Kirk is that he truly cares and is personally invested in getting the results you are looking for. He is always sending a vibe of positive energy in the form of an email or text to motivate me to come into the gym. Whenever I workout with him one on one he is able to get the most out of me every single session. The unique thing about Kirk is that he not only "talks the talk" but he "walks the walk". He has been there and back in terms of where his own personal fitness. His personal success story is both inspirational and motivating. The other great thing about training with the Kirk Fitness team is that each and every team member has a special niche area of exercise expertise that they are able to share with you. You never get the same workout twice which makes you get results you never expected you could get. read more

Kirk has changed my life! I appreciate that's a big statement but he has guided me to a fitter, more slender and stronger body, and has been an amazing support for my spirit. He has a quiet strength and wonderfully positive attitude which is so grounded, genuine, addictive and contagious! Though I could do without the plank to push ups :) read more

Kirk is a rare breed of trainer. Period. He gets your mind right, pushes you harder than you thought possible, and, above all, genuinely cares about your progress. Further, what he does for the community outside of the gym is a testament to the type of person he is. Whether my goals have been to put on weight or to shed a few pounds, Kirk has always been my "go-to-guy." read more

I started working with Kirk in late Spring, early Summer and saw FANTASTIC results within a week. I have worked with several trainers in NYC and his method is not only exceptional, it is effective. He has an amazing kind and engaging attitude which coupled with leaving skinnier each time you work with him is a formula for PURE happiness. Kirk is truly involved in helping you reach your goals from pushing you mentally to helping you anchor through the pain. Join his team and "Smash" it as he says. You will NOT regret it!! read more

I can hardly begin to describe what an amazing experience I've had. Brey has done what all other trainers have failed to do which is making me want to come back for more. He really keeps me motivated and helps me realize that I can achieve my fitness goals and get my dream body. I saw results almost immediately which I love because I need instant gratification. My workouts are tough and I'm amazed everyday with the progress I'm making. I really feel taken care of there and that everyone is interested and invested in my goals. Feels good to know that they really care about me and where I'm trying to go. Dogpound is by far the best gym experience I've ever had! read more

I love Kirk! Training with him is always fun, challenging and rewarding. I think he sets incredibly realistic goals that are challenging without being intimidating. I recommend him to both people who are beginning in there goals to change there lifestyle and to people who may already have trainers but need to shake up. He is very particular about form and ive never felt injured post class the way some trainers have made me feel! All in all im committed to the KIRK regime x read more

The place is clean, it is in a good location, and you get gloves and equipment there. However, the instructor disappointed me a lot. I attended the group boxing session. The instructor did not introduce himself, he did not pay much attention to us, he did not correct when we did something wrong. He felt annoyed all the time. He spent one second showing the exercise. He did what he had to and nothing more. However, when I got tired and could not do as many push-ups as he asked me to, he started threatening "do the exercise or leave". I apologized and tried to explain that I am trying as hard as I can, but he insisted that I should either do all the pushups or leave the gym. What an attitude. Moreover, when one other person's shoelaces untied, he got angry and he humiliated her in front of everyone. During the class he did not say a single word of encouragement, not a single positive word to anyone of us. When the class was over he just turned away and left. I have been at several different gyms and I loved them all. Not here. Will not be back. Maybe other instructors are nicer. The head of the gym greeted us when we came, he smiled, and he seemed really nice. But I will not be back here. read more
