I had a training (boxing) session with Stephen or Steven, this was a few months ago. I felt like his attitude was very lackluster; he just didn't seem to be very into it at all! I had been sick and was only just recently starting to work out again for the first time in a while so my stamina was low, and he just made me feel bad about myself. He wasn't very encouraging or enthusiastic, like I wasn't worth training and he drew the short stick. Maybe it's because I'm not famous or a model? For $200 a session, I would expect my trainer to at least look like he wants to be there! Never went back. The best. They make you feel like part of the Smash City family. The staff and whole atmosphere is super warm, friendly, inspiring, encouraging and inclusive. I usually train with Christian - who is absolutely excellent, so upbeat and motivating - but have also had sessions with Sechew and Spencer, who were both brilliant too. I am overweight and frankly rubbish at exercising even though I quite enjoy it but the Dogpound team really gets me into it and makes you want to try and do your best plus there is absolutely no judgement or body shaming. Let me begin by saying that I have had many experiences with all types of trainers. From California to New York every single trainer has let me down or not ended up being anything too special. As a flight attendant I have an extremely irregular schedule and I was looking for a trainer who would be committed and flexible and really be on board with me to get my body to the next level. Fast forward to a couple of months ago and while looking on Yelp I stumbled upon DOGPOUND. My first thought was "this sounds like tough, militant, no nonsense training and maybe I should give them a shot, after all they have all five star glowing reviews online". So I did. My search for the perfect trainer has ended. I chose to workout with Kirk Myers (one of the owners) and he has turned out to be the most knowledgable,committed,enthusiastic,kind and enjoyable guy to spend an hour with each day. I used to dread workouts and now I feel excited for each workout knowing that Kirk is going to guide me in the right direction and push me to the next level with his unique approach to fitness. I have a ways to go but so far I am very happy with the great results I am seeing with my body. Let me also mention that if you think this is going to be your typical experience in another snobby high end gym with lots of attitude, think again. The DOGPOUND team literally rally's around their clients and introduces everyone to each other as they work out to create a feeling of community amongst their clients and trainers. It's awesome. Well it's just a crossfit gym. Nothing more and nothing less. They charge the average amount of money for a trainer. But let's be real, they have marketing down... they get ppl to selfie their company and that makes other ppl want to go. It does not mean this gym is better than any other gym.. it just means they get alot of ppl who dont work out or never have worked out in their life come here and think they are getting a better workout. Just came back from the gym with DogPound and they literally wrecked me in the most awesome way possible. Every minute training with them we do something different. Time flies to the point where you almost lose track. All the staff is extremely friendly and encouraging. Though you may only have one trainer per session all the trainers are all pushing you even if it's for a split second. When I was asked where I feel it, I had to catch my breath and say everywhere. Nothing like the feeling of coming out of the gym and thinking I worked for that shit. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone that wants the training and the discipline. read more

ALL AROUND AMAZING!!!!! Lets talk about of Band of Brothers (and a sister I saw :) that love fitness and getting people the results they want to see!! I have to say, after going to another PT studio and not only being bored with the same-old routine, but the trainers were actually mean to each other (i guess competing over clients??) DOGPOUND was like joining a second family, LITERALLY!!! And not to mention they train in the ultra-swank David Barton Gym (but they are getting there own space soon...exciting!!) NOW to the real stuff, the workout. LORD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR BODY, by the third exercise, your legs will be shaking, asking for water breaks, sweat dripping all over your mat. And I'm no beginner (albeit slightly out of shape) but these are no easy tasks. But the best part, the motivation behind it! They're not talking your ear off, distracting you from the workout, nor barking at you like you are subhuman, but the best combo of both. Taking my mind off the task while making sure I'm doing it right, all 15 reps!!! Honest best part to me, you never work with the same trainer back to back, and believe me, its beneficial. Its a new workout every week , a new set of motivation, a new set of eyes on your body and your skills letting you know what you're doing right and what you can improve on. I've been training with a few guys in NY, and I, by far get the best pump and best sweat from Kirk Fitness. This is no bs here. My SWOLL arms are a bit in pain as I type this review, because jesus the pump was so good. I walk around like one of those weirdos who can't straighten his arms because the pump was so good. The full body workouts from them (jesus, flipping a giant tire is HARD oh but let's add sprints in between the flipping nbd) are insane -- indeed, they've given me the hardest heavy workout I've gotten in the city. These guys seem to focus on a collection of sets of a few exercises, usually with drop sets and little rest. They're in it to win it, and clearly you are too. They're now starting to train at 5AM! 5! WTF. But training at 5am sounds kind of badass and you're badass so you'll probably want to train at 5. WHY NOT START AT 4? They're training at Gotham Gym these days, it seems, so check them out. The guys are cool -- early in the morning they might offer you an espresso because jesus it's early and YOU NEED TO GET YOUR PUMP. [A lot of women train with them too!] read more

Kirk is an amazing trainer and one of the coolest people I've ever had a chance to meet. He has such positive energy that it is nearly impossible not to get energized yourself and put that into your workout. My background is that I have NEVER visited a gym before, and did some P90X stuff at home because, to be honest, I had no clue how to use 3/4s of the machinery found in most gyms. I was quite nervous about getting started and Kirk eased me through it and helped find the energy and motivation to keep learning more and pushing myself harder. I've shopped around and had experiences with many trainers in the city, and Kirk is one of the best. He understands what it's like to not be a really fit guy to begin with and a noob in the gym and helped coach me through the whole process. I had such a great experience training with Brey. I've been working out for quite some time, but had hit a wall in my workouts. He knows how to motivate you mentally and encourage you to make the last set really count. His workouts are creative, and he mixes up the workouts by using a variety of equipment and movements which helps the time go by quickly. He also frequently incorporates supersets that really make you sweat and get the most out of your time at the gym. The core was engaged the entire time and we finished off the session with a shredding ab workout. When you're done you feel insanely accomplished. Most important, this guy is passionate about what he does and he knows what he's doing. Brey's workouts are always on point and he delivers. He reads his clients really well and can tell whether or not an exercise needs to be more challenging or modified based on strength and skill level. His positive attitude is infectious and any session with him instantly puts you in a better mood - I'm not sure if he ever stops smiling. He genuinely cares about his clients, and does the little things that really stand out and will keep me going back, such as greeting you with a water bottle and towel. Highly recommend! read more

Lazy to Motivated in 6 months 6 months ago I went to DogPound hoping for some trainers that I could commit to training with while in town. I'm beyond lazy when it comes to fitness. Various health issues stopped me from exercising and though cleared for it, I just wasn't going. I honestly thought I was hopeless but knew I had to go and figured if I paid for it, I'd go. Knowing it wouldn't be too many times a month, I wanted trainers that would be intense and super knowledgeable. Shows what I know! Within months I was actively LOOKING FORWARD to "smashtime" missing it on my off days. I even started seeing the inside of hotel gyms during work trips- something I'd never done before- just cause I was missing the feel of exercising so much! The best part of the dogpound team actually has nothing to do with working out. You could get any knowledgeable trainer and start seeing results with consistent commitment. I absolutely love dogpound! It is my happy place :) I have been going for a little over two months and my body has completely changed. Everything is tighter and I am so much stronger. They're are a few things that make dogpound the best. I have been going for more than two months 2-3 times a week and not one workout has been the same. The energy these guys have is incredible. You could be having the worst day, go to dogpound, get your butt kicked and leave on cloud 9. Brey, Kirk, Dawin, Rhys, Keyla and Dennis are the most motivating positive trainers and people all around. They make the hardest workout actually fun, you won't believe how fast the workout goes by. They are fun, hilarious and trainers who know what they're doing and their energy is contagious. The group is dynamic and they know what they're doing actually works. BEST workout I've ever had. Not like traditional gym trainers repeating reps with weights, my session with BEAST was non-stop different exercises, nothing boring about it. I have used Equinox and trainers there on and off and this was on another level. I was sore during, an hour after and days later which makes me confident in what we accomplished. The thing I LOVE about this entire crew is the overwhelming amount of dedication, passion, and commitment they have to each and every single one of their clients. They're the perfect combination of super fun and incredibly tough! These guys live, breathe, work health and fitness. Kirk is the best! I've been working out with him for about 15 months now and he has changed my life for the better. Kirk is always there for you, for example, I had to work an overnight shift and he was worried about my food intake so he came to my rescue and delivered proteins bars after I worked a 12 hour day. The place is clean, it is in a good location, and you get gloves and equipment there. However, the instructor disappointed me a lot. I attended the group boxing session. The instructor did not introduce himself, he did not pay much attention to us, he did not correct when we did something wrong. He felt annoyed all the time. He spent one second showing the exercise. He did what he had to and nothing more. However, when I got tired and could not do as many push-ups as he asked me to, he started threatening "do the exercise or leave". I apologized and tried to explain that I am trying as hard as I can, but he insisted that I should either do all the pushups or leave the gym. What an attitude. Moreover, when one other person's shoelaces untied, he got angry and he humiliated her in front of everyone. During the class he did not say a single word of encouragement, not a single positive word to anyone of us. When the class was over he just turned away and left. I have been at several different gyms and I loved them all. Not here. Will not be back. Maybe other instructors are nicer. The head of the gym greeted us when we came, he smiled, and he seemed really nice. But I will not be back here. read more
