I feel like one of my many toxic traits is thinking I'm in shape and can handle any workout but then I'm sweating in the first 5 minutes into the WARM UP. And Pvolve definitely had me sweating in the warm-up. The workout: The class I took was Sculpt & Burn. It was low-impact, had great music, and the equipment we used was weights and resistance bands. The coach was super nice and knowledgeable and even at the start of the class, offered to help set me up. The class was a good size where I didn't feel I was just another number and the coach was able to correct forms and give pointers throughout the workout. I will say, the class is pretty fast-paced and it will work muscles you never knew you had. Service / Amenities: - As soon as I walked in to check in, the front desk crew was super nice and showed me around. I really liked how attentive and friendly they were! And even at the end of the class, they gave a goodie bag. - The space is really clean, the lockers are a great size, and the best part, is they have a whole shared space with dry shampoo, deodorant, a blow dryer, and some face products

So much fun and more tiring than I thought it would be. Great instructors and so much help and guidance throughout. Would highly recommend.

Ask the Community - Pvolve

Are there showers at this studio?

No showers. But there are sinks in their nicely stocked locker room that you can use for free (face wash, SPF, body wipes, lotion, hairdryer, hair products). I also like that they provide face towels; which I used after washing my face at the sink.

Filled out the online inquiry and received a quick response to fill out a form with basic info…read more The form asks about info like goals, injuries,... I have a few injuries that impact some flexibility but generally don't limit me (for example, I play competitive tennis and used to box semi-competitively). I also stated I was just looking for general conditioning but hoped that through the strength training I could improve my structure (for example, my shoulders pull forward a little because I need to develop my back a bit). A week passes and I don't hear a thing. I send a follow-up and very quickly hear back with an e-mail response stating that they aren't a physical therapist and won't take me on as a client. I'm somewhat surprised but sent a response clarifying I wasn't looking for a physical therapist just a trainer and seeing who they could recommend. Again, I didn't hear back...I've moved on. I ended up finding an amazing trainer who I've been working with the last few months and the progress has been great.

Let's get real... I hate working out. I do not look forward to training here every week yet I keep…read morecoming back. It's probably due to the fact that it's my first time in my life that I'm actually training at a place that employs professionals (which means every week I get my ass kicked). I've done my fair share of training through various corporate clubs and the quality of trainers can not even come close to those that work at Rich Barretta. I've had the opportunity to work with two of the trainers here and both are extremely friendly, creative with their workouts and knowledgeable. Each week I'm presented with an entirely new workout. I've never repeated any exercise in the 3 months I've been training and the new muscles I've discovered thank me (or hate me) for that. The facilities are clean and intimate. Since it's a private studio, there are no distractions (other trainers talking to your trainer, waiting for equipment, not having enough space, gym members staring at you, etc.). I feel really comfortable working out here and I'm not embarrassed to try some of the exercises my trainer wants me to do since there's no one around watching me. The prices are reasonable as well. If you're looking to train somewhere, I would 150% recommend going here rather than with a trainer in your gym.

Financial District

I have always "worked out" from classes to trainers,…read morePilates, Yoga, running etc. I saw mediocre results. Three years ago, my good friend introduced me to Joel and I have been training with him ever since. "Excellent Trainer" doesn't do Joel justice. He is way more than just a great trainer - he is a fitness guru, motivational coach, and nutritional expert all in one. He personalizes my workout regimes to meet my goals and body type, and is genuinely invested in my journey to achieving maximum fitness. He is reliable, consistent, and inspiring - so much so, that I am willing to go to the financial district at 6am weekly to see him (despite living and working taxi rides away and being a night person! ) I highly recommend Joel for anyone looking to improve their overall well being, fitness and/or outlook on life!

I changed my goals a bit and Joel was very receptive to lighten our workouts in a way that worked for me. I had chronic problems with my lower back and Joel was very cautious to exercise to strengthen it without causing any damage. I can say that my back NEVER hurts any more!!! It's amazing!! Joel changed our workouts depending on my feedback and we found something that increased my endurance, strength and felt great during and after the workout. He is the kindest, most patient, supportive and entertaining trainer I have worked with!!

We came in with different fitness levels and goals, and Ivy met us exactly where we were - she designed personalized workouts that challenged us both without ever feeling out of reach. Each session was thoughtful, well-structured, and never repetitive. She kept things interesting by constantly mixing up the exercises, and she was always quick to tweak things on the spot based on how we were feeling that day. Whether it was strength training, mobility work, or endurance, Ivy knew exactly how to push us. On top of being an incredibly skilled trainer, Ivy is warm, professional, and just a joy to spend time with. We genuinely looked forward to our workouts and always left feeling a little prouder of ourselves! She's able to push you with just the right mix of intensity, humor, and encouragement. Highly, highly recommend Ivy to anyone looking for a trainer, whether you're getting back into fitness or want to level up!!

I work from home and spent a lot of my time at my desk so my activity levels were at an all time…read morelow (aside from taking walks in between meetings). Every time I went to the gym in the past, it was with a friend and I would just chill at the cardio machines. After long bouts of body dysmorphia and bad eating habits, I came to Ivy knowing something had to change with my lifestyle and that I had no idea where to start in terms of using any kind of proper exercise techniques. When looking for a trainer, I was looking for someone who would push me and make sure the exercises weren't cookie cutter like the ones offered at most big gyms. From Ivy's past reviews I knew she was the one (personable, cares about her clients, invested in long term lifestyle improvements). Ivy is empathetic and encouraging no matter your level and will push you to ensure you are getting the most out of your sessions. Her programming is diverse and aligns with your personal goals (which you go over in the first consultation call). I did the group sessions and Ivy always makes sure the vibes are uplifting and motivating (awesome playlists btw - also loved the workout groups)! I was already seeing results by the end of the first month, already learned how to properly deadlift and squat and understood which muscles had to be worked on with certain exercises. Ivy will go over exercises with patience and understanding and even breaks down steps further if you are struggling. Working out with Ivy was the highlight of my week and I looked forward to every session. I can now lift heavy things I couldn't carry before and my stamina is improving every week. My only regret was not starting with her sooner! I went from running the other way with the idea of the gym to loving exercise (not to mention my mental health is on an all time high since starting four months ago). I've learned to love my body and love sweating it out at the gym. The first day I stepped into a public gym by myself, I was able to approach the squat racks without embarrassing myself! I cannot emphasize how amazing she is through this essay alone so definitely call her for a consultation and see for yourself ;)

The first session was simply a conversation with the trainer solely for the purposes of learning what was important to me so they could tailor not just the workouts, but also ways to help me feel inspired as a whole person. That made me feel so special. The trainers were sure to respect and be mindful of what could seemingly be small details but were important me. That for me is priceless! The physical space itself is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It was designed with so much intentionality that it made the workout sessions even more enjoyable. The small group sessions are lovely. They aren't overstimulating and that was key for me. Every workout session left me feeling inspired, encouraged and renewed not just physically but mentally & emotionally. Lastly, Dani, the owner and founder, is an absolute PLEASURE to do business with and her passion for mind and body fitness is evident. She wants every client to get what they need to feel empowered. She makes herself accessible and easy to communicate with either by phone, email or text. As a nurse leader, I am deeply appreciative of what she has created at Very Personal Training and will continue to do support her business not only with my own personal training but also with group training events that I will host for my clinical team and friends.
