Wow, this is my second class so far, and I can feel the burn If you're new, like me, I suggest starting with the Essentials Package (current special: 3 Essentials classes for $75) before jumping into the All Levels classes. Although grounded in Pilates principles, SLT has its own method and reformer. You have to experience it to feel the difference. The Tribeca studio is beautifully lit. I hated this. The instructor fully intended on just saying what we were supposed to do and not demonstrating any of the moves, and I could tell that all four of us in the class was just looking over at each other and trying to figure out what the hell we were supposed to do, so I told her that I was having trouble following her spoken instructions and asked whether she could demonstrate some of the moves, which she did a little bit after my request. She also did help me with some hands-on modifications, which I really appreciated. I also really hated that she would say what we were going to do next when we were still doing the previous/current exercise. For example, she would say, "we're dropping down to our knees" which signals to my brain to drop down to my knees immediately ".... In ten, nine, eight...." So wait, we're still doing the previous thing? I don't care what we are doing next. It's so confusing that she did this with every exercise. I would think we were moving on to the next thing because she was describing it only to find out we're not doing it yet. Our brains aren't built for that. Lastly, the equipment was kind of worn. I much prefer Wundabar or Nofar Method for a nicer studio and easier to follow instructions, and they are cheaper too, at least on Classpass. read more

I've been taking classes at SLT Tribeca for a year and love the workout for the slow, controlled movements. The transitions between positions can be quick, so listening to the instructor's cues is really important. SLT has helped me with balance, hamstring strength and core strength, even though I only take class once a week (twice if my schedule allows). I recommend newcomers start with the Essentials class. Took my husband today for his first class (Essentials) and he was dripping in sweat and surprised at the difficulty - even though I'd demonstrated some of the moves at home with sliders and showed him SLT videos online the night before so he would know what to expect. SLT has given me defined abs, notwithstanding the occasional pizza and Popeyes fried chicken sandwiches. I highly recommend the workout. My first experience here was so wonderful. First of all I was about five minutes late and they let me join manny was so helpful for my sock ready for me in no time so they were literally Waiting for me at the door. The room was super clean and I felt enough space between people during Covid time. Chase was kind and welcoming and encouraged me as it was my first time back to any workout after a stomach surgery. As a former athlete (Varsity swimmer and triathlete), I love a great workout challenge! I'm familiar with Pilates and reformer classes, but a workout on a mega reformer is really next level. Within the first 5 minutes of class, you will feel the burn. SLT is a great way to work your smaller muscles (and muscles you never knew you had until they're super sore for 3-4 days after). You truly work your inner thighs, lower abs, and glutes to say the least. Also, there is a lot of planking and balancing work -- yay abs! I like that SLT classes are intimate (less than 15 people). I would highly recommend taking an essentials class, so that you can get familiar with the mega reformer. I would also recommend taking a class with Caitlin Flood - she's amazing and does a great job of explaining the moves. read more

OKAY, so SLT is just fine. However, it is by no means this "crazy, amazing" workout. The StudioMDR in California is real Lagree, with enthusiastic instructors who play loud, inspiring music and have fun, fast, easy transitions. If a real hyped Lagree studio every came to NYC, SLT would be out of business. But, because there are literally no other legit Lagree classes, SLT will have to do. Some instructors resemble the great nationwide studios (ie: Cullen) but overall if clients knew what they were missing out on, people would refuse to pay the $40. read more

The worst customer service, got called into work and couldn't make a class they refused to help reschedule my class/put me in a different class so I wouldn't lose the $40 I stupidly spent on a work out... I had to call 5 times just to get someone on the phone when I finally spoke to some one they were so rude. Ive tried to email the manager who refuses to respond. Really not worth it will just go to one of the other boutique fitness studios on the same street. read more

I have to say that the negative reviews regarding SLTs customer service are true. I bought an intro class pack ($40/2 classes) and attended my first class in TriBeCa. The receptionist was very friendly and accommodating. The instructor initially offered helpful instruction and explained the equipment. As the other reviews state, this is a challenging class and can be a little awkward your first time on the machine (side note, I have taken other reformer classes not at SLT and have enjoyed them). So, it would seem like a given that the instructor would be understanding if the moves are difficult the first time around, or if participants need to modify or take a few extra seconds to get in these awkward positions that change every 30-60 seconds. It seemed like as the class went on she grew frustrated with correcting me, so halfway through I decided to leave as this was the least enjoyable workout class I have ever experienced. I want to make it clear that I was not disrupting the class and I also attend other fitness classes regularly, such as Soul Cycle, Pure Barre etc, so I'm very familiar with instructor lead courses and following their critiques. I'm not sure if this instructor had a bad day, but I don't go to classes to be chastised at 33 years old. However, the more frustrating part of this story is that I emailed the SLT info address asking for a refund for the remainder of my credits and explained the situation and never heard back. I called the following day and was told "SLT does not give refunds", which was never stated anywhere when I purchased this stupid intro pack. I read ahead of time that their customer service is poor, so I pushed the person on the phone and finally she said she would forward my email to a manager named Melissa. I said if I don't hear back I'll assume I should call and ask for Melissa and she said managers don't take phone calls. I'm writing this review to reiterate the negative customer service but also so that people are aware that they won't get a refund - even if they spend $40 for a single Class. In a city filled with limitless options of expensive workout classes it's unfortunate that SLT chooses to disregard their customers experiences. FYI when you are thinking about giving SLT a shot, it is a challenging full body workout yes, but in my experience they were rude and it's definitely not worth the money. FYI here is the response I received from the manager: Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your class with us on Monday, we want all clients to have a great experience at our studio. Unfortunately we do not offer refunds, I could return that offer and purchase a single class for you but our single classes are $40 so you wouldn't actually get anything back. I am happy to recommend instructors if you'd like to come back to use that other session with us. You also have the option to give that class to a friend as well if you do not wish to use it. This studio is SO fresh and roomy, biggest SLT lobby that they have to offer. The schedule has an awesome variety of instructors from 5:30am to 7:30pm at night so you really can't miss an opportunity to sweat. There's also a cool side area with two megaformers if you don't want to be 'in the mix' with the rest of the class. There's always really nice staff at this location as well and the jams are pumpin in the lobby. AJ is on the schedule a couple times a week, if you haven't taken her she's a killer!! read more

I used introductory offer ($40 for 2 classes) to check out the hypes over the megaformer workout. My first exercise was with Vanessa. She was tough! In 5 minutes, I was groaning, sweating and secretly crying. The workout is really challenging. After the exercise, I felt so sore all over. The studio is nice and spacious. There are only like 10 spots. So, it's easy to get individualized attention from a teacher. If it's your first time, you will get corrections. On my second, it was not as difficult as it was. Maybe, Vanessa was more effective. I will keep trying. Pretty much everyone in the class is really in good shape, which makes you self conscious. But in about 5 minutes into the class, you will forget about that because of sweat. The only downside is the high price tag ($40 per class). Hence, 4 stars instead of 5. But for the first time in a long time, I think my butt got kicked out in a good way. read more
