The gym staff were very friendly and helpful! They offered a "step in" boxing experience when I was there with my husband through our hotel. We did not get to try that, but everyone in the boxing ring looked like they were enjoying the class! The gym was clean, and had lots of machines available: Stairmaster, free weights, weight benches, yoga room, and several weight training machines. read more

Trained with Malik today. He was so attentive to my form and alignment and gently aided me in getting into proper boxing alignment. He was full of insight on the mindset of a successful boxer, which we were able to transfer to my mindset. What I really loved is how generous he was with helping me releasing tension in my shoulder. He gave me many tools to start practicing at home to loosed up my muscles. Thank you! read more

Great gym fun atmosphere and professional service. Greeted warmly from the time we got in the gym to the time we left.

(KEEP IN MIND THIS IS A BLOG POST TURNED YELP REVIEW.) I have been following Gotham Gym on instagram for about two years now and have always been curious as to why so many models train there. In my mind I imagined this pristine, super high-end gym with vanity lighting, spa amenities and a very intimidating "you can't sit with us" vibe. I mean this place is where Victoria's Secret model's get runway ready, there must be a huge luxury component to it, right? To my surprise when I arrived there I encountered a small gym tucked away in the West Village with nothing too glitzy or glamorous about it. If you don't know about it you can probably walk by it and not even notice it. Except you will thanks to the amount of models and celebrities who hang out there. The space consists of a Boxing ring which is probably the gym's main attraction, weight area, small group fitness studio and a few cardio machines. No amenities like locker rooms or juice bars. What I really loved about the space is the fact that it has so much natural light, which is something very rare in New York especially at a gym. I went there for a one on one personal training session and was very close to dying at certain points but the adrenalin rush kept me alive (so poetic I know.) I will definitely have to try and review a group class very soon. The gym is membership based and classes are included in your monthly membership, personal training is not. However you can pay for a drop in class and the studio is also included in Classpass. After trying this gym I have to say I was really happy with my training session which consisted mostly of boxing. Boxing is a great workout for the body and for the mind. It's a mix of cardio, weight training, flexibility and agility. There is no other workout that encompasses so many elements, which is probably why so many models have made it their workout of choice. Now I still don't know why so many celebrities flock to this particular studio but my guess would be that the main reason is because Hugh Jackman works out there. The other reasons I can think of is that Gotham is located in a very quiet corner of a very quiet neighborhood and unlike most boxing studios this one doesn't stink, it actually smells great! The only downside I saw is that they don't have a real locker room with a changing area, what they have is a room with old wooden lockers and you have to bring your own lock. This would make my gym to office transition very complicated since you sweat buckets when you box and they have no showers! Other than that this gym deserves an A plus and I will definitely be back to see if I throw some more punches. read more

Best workout, best gym vibe and so much fun. For a one on one training session, ask for Simeon. He is beyond....you will get the best workout, learn so much, laugh and not know where the time went. Off the chart! read more

This actually looks like one of the best places in NYC for kickboxing. I actually got the pleasure of meeting rob a few months ago and you can tell that he has actually put his heart and soul into this place. He really does care about what he dose and his staff having the true NY vibe. Everything that you get here is designed to be a true NY experience. I love the layout and interior of the building. I also did like the awesome tee shirts and other things that they had to choose from in there as well. I actually did love the layout of the place and the hardwood floor. I wasn't quite ready to get a class in when I met with him due to a sports injury. Then I did actually leave the city to deal with some family issues. I do look forward to taking some classes there when I return to the city at the end of the year. I've been following this place on instagram and I do feel like it is actually a good place for progressive training and getting into the best shape of your life. It was good to meet with you Rob. I look forward to getting in a workout in the near future. There were just so many amazing quality's about this place. Its too great not to pass up. read more

A neat, one-of-a-kind elite boxing gym. Well-organized, clean, full of equipment. The staff is kind and professional. I got to work out with Frank and Sonny, both are the real deal with lots of experience. Whenever I needed an advice, trainers were there for me to help and explain things in detail. Some very dedicated and knowledgeable people come here, inspires to see their skills. This place is a good combination of tough and chill. Nobody's going to bother you here. Hands down the best gym in the city. read more

Gotham Gym - Unique Equipment - Gyms Near Me - New York, New York

Butch is the man!!!! Such an amazing trainer. He is extremely knowledgeable. He takes pride in explaining each and every que. Aside from being a really smart trainer, he's a great guy to be around. I always feel amazing upon leaving, and feel really accomplished! Thank you Butch read more

After all of the positive reviews, I was really looking forward to working out here. However I was sorely disappointed with the class. I took a boxing class here departing from Work Train Fight which provides awesome boxing classes. The instructor was more concerned with flirting with the pretty young women (and there were many) and singing all of the lyrics to the Biggy songs playing. He did not correct the class at all and looking around, the class really needed help with learning how to punch and move. Also, the instructor always had his back to me when rattling off the combinations making it hard to follow the class. The other important thing to note is that they don't have a real locker room. It is a room with two curtains barely covering the door. It is too small for all of the women that come through here. There are maybe 20 wooden Ikea type lockers and you need to bring your own lock. I highly suggest you change before coming here. If you want really learn boxing, go to Work Train Fight. You won't be disappointed. read more

This is not a "pretty people" gym like Equinox. People are not going here for meticulously vacumed floor, always wiped down benches, and Kiehls products. If you want that you're not going to like this place. I didn't think I could actually find a gym like this in Manhattan, especially west village. But seriously -- I've gotten some of the most intense workouts ever here. Midway through a workout here I saw this crazy strong girl doing a circuit of boxing pad work (she was so fast holy eff), then to bent knee deadlift, to squat, to abs. Then back to boxing. No rest. If this intensity appeals to you -- especially if you like the prospect of mixing boxing with barbell work (seriously wtf insane), then you should come to Gotham. Also Wolverine trains here early in the morning. nbd u kno read more

I have tried group lesson in a few different boxing studios in the city, what I enjoy the most is the pad work, so the maximum of pad work time I have, the best rating I'd give, hence Gotham gym is one of the best I have found in the city so far. The facility itself is very decent and the gym itself is very clean. Locker room is a little small but it serves its purpose. For a 60 minutes of group class, they typically start with 15 minutes of warm up (or it feels like 15 minutes) and teach you some basic technics. Then they pair you up with another student in the class and you rotate between holding pad and punch, following the trainer's demonstration. I personally feel that you can have a great work out if you and your partner are at the same level, in any case, I always get a better work out here than going to boxing gym where you don't get much pad work time and only rotate between different stations. read more

I LOVE Gotham. I came to New York for the summer to do an internship, and I am so sad to have to leave it behind when I go back to school. I wish I could take it with me! My starting point was pathetic, and I almost passed out (literally) after my first class. But the atmosphere is so friendly and encouraging that I couldn't NOT come again. Everyone here is just here to get healthy, not to show off. I started out at working out once a week, and now I'm up to four times a week! It's something I look forward to now. I definitely recommend the boxing class. The private training sessions are great too! Any of the trainers will get you into shape and are so nice. Mike, my trainer, was amazing! Go, and try out Gotham. I promise you won't regret it. Girls--this is NOT a macho, guys-only gym! read more

Wow I loved the boxing class. The instructor was really helpful and so was the front desk. I had to sign a waiver and put my information in the system before class. The only thing though was that it was so hot in the gym. I'm not sure if it was because there was no air conditioning or simply because they like it being hot and sweaty in there. The class was challenging in my opinion. I went with a friend and had fun in the class. I'll definitely be coming back to boxing here at Gotham gym! read more

Go now! This is the best place ever to blow off some steam. Big shout out to Austin; #bestinstructorever

Love this gym - I have been a member of several gyms in NYC (equinox, nysc, etc) and Gotham is the best gym I've ever belonged to. The classes are awesome and included in your monthly membership and the trainers are very knowledgable. I HIGHLY recommend this gym to anyone interested in seriously working out / getting in better shape. read more

I was going to sign up for this gym but after seeing how they treated someone who came in for an interview, I will be going elsewhere. Everyone who walks through your business doors should be treated with the same respect. read more

Love Gotham! I've been going for two years and it's been great. The trainers are all so friendly and helpful, no matter what you're doing. Josh's Boot camp class on Wednesday is amazing and really challenge and inspire you! I wouldn't change a thing about it. Plus the variety is great between Boxing, Muay Thai, Boot camp or just using the equipment! read more

Been coming here for almost a year now and it is definitely enjoy coming here! Staff is very nice and welcoming every time you walk in, the work out is great and effective, and the price is super cheap compared to the commercialized $200-$300 a month gyms. Can be intimidating the first time if you come by yourself and have never boxed before, but really isn't that hard to pick up and people are super nice and ready to help. read more

not bad, but not great. most of the guys are nice but not very professional/ i see them hang around equipment - don't know if they're using it or taking up space / but this seems like a mans man / tom girl type of gym. it's a fighter gym heavily based on boxing. no showers / 1 toilet / and front desk isn't run great - i've seen some turnover there. for $100 a month eh... i don't appreciate the cursing i can hear amongst trainers read more

I highly recommend Gotham Gym, particularly for those who are curious about the possibility of adding boxing to their fitness regiment, yet may feel slightly intimidated by the prospect. The space has a great energy that is both full service gym yet with an afficionado's passion for the sport of boxing, I love the great fights posters on the walls. I took a group beginner's class and my review is in large part based on my experience with Noah as the group leader of our lesson, Noah is patient, accessible, and able to balance leading a high energy session with individual attention-a difficult balance to achieve in 45 minutes yet he does. The staff was gracious and patient as well. I got the impression from some descriptions of Gotham that this space is a bit of scene yet for me walking in out of shape and green I felt comfortable and left being glad that I went. read more

Not gonna lie, I was pretty intimidated When I first walked into this gym. It's definitely a no frill gym with a huge boxing ring as the focal point in the middle of the room. As a 5'3" 113 lb girl my only experiences with group fitness classes has been quiet yoga and pilates centers or dance based cardio classes. However, being surprisingly athletic, this is exactly what I have been looking for in a workout. Definitely challenging and you will leave super sweaty, I felt accomplished that I could keep up for basically the entire boxing class as well as the muay thai class. After weeks of really pushing in my workouts but still not feeling as though it was enough, I woke up extremely sore the next morning. The staff is super nice and encouraging, I'll definitely plan on coming back! read more

If you want serious resistance work with barbells and free weights, Hanson Fitness and Blink provide much better alternatives. I've worked out at Gotham with my personal trainer for almost six month. The manager of Gotham recently installed two large boxing rings that take up over 50% of the gym space and leave a cramped work out space for people like me who are only interested in doing resistance work with barbells and free weights. Furthermore, the manager insists on playing very loud music through the gym speakers which makes it difficult to concentrate. When asked courteously to lower the volume a bit, the manager has repeatedly refused, even during off peak hours. In contrast to the manager, the staff at Gotham are courteous and friendly. read more

I love this place. As many others, I found out about it via Instagram thanks to the gazillion models working out here. I train with Sonny almost every day (only have so for a week) and I love it. I was new to boxing and quite scared to try it, but it's so addicting and you always want to get better. The 1 hour is usually split up between boxing/mitt work and strength and conditioning, but no one workout is the same! I've never been this sore/sweated this much before in my life! The gym itself is basic, no frills, which I like. No Kiehl's shampoo and candles, just honest and hard work going on here. Everyone's friendly and encouraging. Couldn't recommend it more! read more

Fantastic gym and awesome local vibe. Solid group of trainers and all are eager to help or root you on. I train with Josh and he is not only talented but makes the experience fun. A true hidden gem in the west village. To top it off the membership cost is a no brainer. Bravo Gotham. read more

LOVE this gym. Best thing in my neighborhood and every day I make it to Boxing Class is a great day. See you guys later!! WOOHOOO!!

Great no-frills gym. They pack weights, cardio, a boxing ring, and crossfit equipment into a small space, so you've got a ton of options. Great trainers too; they clearly love what they do. It tends to get crowded at peak hours, so check it out on the weekend to see everything there. It's a fitness playground. read more

I love this gym! I have been coming here for a couple of months, and everyone who works here is super friendly/helpful but also very professional. They have all the equipment I could ever need to get a hard workout and when I run across something I don't know how to use, people are always willing to show me how or help me out. The community feeling is great, but it's also nice to be in an environment where like everyone is working out hard and the staff is really knowledgeable. If you are looking for a trainer, you should workout with Mike! He's awesome----laid back personality, but pushes you hard. If you are looking for a boxing/fitness class that will leave you in a full sweat and get a full body workout, then you should take Mike's Sat. class, I think he teaches during the week, too, but I can't remember right now. I have tried NYSC, Equinox, other boutique gyms/boxing gyms, and I've found no other gym that has the community feel and intensity of Gotham. If you're serious about working out/fitness/getting in shape, then these guys will take care of you! read more

Friendly gym that's perfect for someone who wants to learn Boxing, or just wants to break some sweat. The crew is super friendly and they don't treat you like a "customer #157". It's person-to-person relationship, which comes handy especially when you need motivations to come more often and reach whatever goal you are heading. Okay, there are not as many equipments as Equinox or Crunch, but when you combine daily boxing classes combined with the crew's one-on-one sessions, its not-so-large space becomes a minor issue. After all, it's you that's doing the workout and the crew is always there to help you out. read more

Tried boxing for the first time and absolutely loved the class Curtis taught. The class was large so I didn't get the attention to technique that I would've liked for a first timer but overall I got a good workout and had fun. Will be going back! read more

I checked out this gym before but never became a member because it's quite small. Plus it's $1000 to work out in a tiny space- you could actually just get yourself a home gym for a cheaper price. Clean gym, super small facility, it can't handle more than 25 people. Not enough treadmills, equipment, or machines... the only perk?... they have a boxing ring. Don't go unless you are serious about boxing. Not a good gym for people who just want to work out. read more

Cool place with good instructors, also clean (doesn't have bad smell like some boxing gym). The class is challenging and dynamic, definitely a good sweat. I'm not sure if the shower in this place is working, most people don't shower here anyways but I'd like to have that optionality if I'm going to somewhere after the class. read more

Really kind staff and excellent pair boxing. They try to match you up with someone with similar experience level so you get the most out of your class. Two of the trainers rapped my hands, i did get $h1t for having a different gym's raps :) will definitely come again read more

First off i just want to say that this is a dream facility for someone looking to train or get in the best shape of their lives. When i first joined Gotham, they made it a mission not to use the " ID check in process" but instead they took the time to get to know their clients and check in on a first name basis, where else do you get that! I have been to a lot of facility's training year round and i have to give it up to Gotham hands down on one of the most integrated gym fitness lay out experience, including an amazing boxing ring, Olympic lifting station, Olympic rings, tires, sand bags and battle ropes. (you even have room to sprint 10-15M if your workout requires you to) . The staff/ trainers of Gotham are some of the most helpful staff i have experienced in a gym, fitness is their passion and you can tell the way they treat their clients. I encourage people to really try this fitness facility and take their workout experiences to the next level. You will not go wrong.. try it.... read more

The best money spent in NYC! I recently moved to the NYC West Village from Atlanta and was super excited to find Gotham Gym - a hidden gem in the West Village. The words that quickly come to mind are LOVE it and Can't get enough! Check it out. read more

This gym has got exactly what one needs to get a great workout in and "BREATHE HEAVY" as my trainer Mike would put it. The boxing classes are intense and will def whip any jelly belly into shape quickly and efficiently. When I started a couple of months back, I hinestly did not think I was going to make it through my first class. I have to say, I now feel like a seasoned vet. The atmosphere is very cool and laid back. Great staff running the place and I've also met some cool folks while getting it in!!!! What I really enjoy about the place is that it is by far NOT a Globo Gym as you can find many in the neighborhood. Keep up the great work guys!!!! read more

Best gym I've ever belonged to. Mostly will repeat what others have already written: 1. No frills. Don't misinterpret this to mean tired or rundown. The place has great and new equipment and is kept spotless, almost obsessively clean). And great little perks like free fruit & bottled water. A nice touch I think. 2. Highly personalized experience. In my opinion what a neighborhood business should be. Every small business owner should take note of the culture Rob (owner/manger referenced elsewhere on this thread) has built at Gotham. Everyone makes an effort to get to know your name, your family and friends. Rob continually asks for input on what could be better & makes it feel like your own place. Truly makes me want to get up in the morning...kind of like the local restaurant where everyone knows you when you walk in the door. 3. Passionate and extremely knowledgeable staff. Most of my time has been spent with Mike and Josh, who are masters of their craft. Hard working, reliable, and completely dialed in to your goals/objectives. They can do just about anything...boxing (of course), conditioning, strength, etc. Guys you want to hang out with too which is an added bonus. Have done both 1-on-1 sessions (great) and group classes (also great), which have a great community vibe to them...and offer a superior workout of course. 4. Resources. They have a PT (Steve) on site who is an absolute magician. When I first joined I had pretty severe neck & nerve pain, which has since been seemingly cured entirely (I had been to other PTs who didn't help at all). And the coordination with Mike (before-mentioned personal trainer) was a huge benfit since the two of them took the time to constantly compare notes. I have also seen dance instructors & other specialists walking the floor so again, despite no frills, incredibly well resourced and efficient. If you live or work near the West Village there isn't a good reason not to join. For those of you who were left looking for a gym when Equinox bought out the original Printing House, Gotham is your spot...and it's even better. read more

I was a member of The Printing House Gym from its inception. When Equinox took over I switched to Gotham. Thank you Equinox! Gotham is the best gym I've found in NYC. Spenser and Hawk would be happy here. read more

Literally just joined yelp, to write my first ever review to let everyone know what a great experience I had at this gym! I went for the first time last night, and had a personal training session with Q. He was professional, friendly, thorough, and knowledgeable! (made sure I had no injuries/my workout history.. let him know I've been training for a half marathon so basically been running a ton.. he knew right away its probably bothered my knees, etc.) And then the fun began. He literally kicked my butt, in a good way! I had an awesome, dynamic workout. Going to be sore.. Of course, everyone comes here for the boxing, and it was SO FUN. Q taught me all of the basics, and I really got a great sweat in. I can see why people love this workout so much, because you feel super tough, and can really progress in your training with it. My girlfriends also came for a personal training session last night, and had a good time. We are all going to come back to try a class. The gym is definitely no frills like other users have said, but everyone's fun and energetic attitude make up for any missing juice bar. I got the idea that the gym is really a family, and everyone was super friendly/approachable. I hate gyms that you get nervous in,, and where everyone is super conceded/cliquey Hope to be back in the future ... can't say much about the pricing structure/options. I'm sure it isn't cheap, but nothing in NYC is. But definitely such a fun workout & I was super impressed by the staff. read more

I've been going to Gotham for a little over a year now and I can confidently say that there isn't a better gym around. If you're looking to work out independently, take a group class, or have a private lesson with some of the most knowledgable and talented trainers there are, Gotham can do it all. The trainers are dedicated to ensuring that you're getting the results you want. Whether you're looking to get into shape, drop some pounds, pack on some muscle, or get into boxing, they've got the experience to help you get where you want to be. If you're looking for a private session, ask for Josh. He's guaranteed to entertain you the whole time and is still committed to getting you the best workout possible. No matter if I'm taking a private lesson with him or taking one of his classes, he's always switching things up to keep the workouts interesting and challenging, always pushing me farther than before. I can't recommend the place and the people enough, if you're looking for the best, you've found it. read more
