I purchased WTF's $97/unlimited promo & while I've only taken 2 classes, it's been freaking awesome. The gym is nice, spacious, and clean. (The locker room and showers are hella nice too. I usually stay away from showering at the gym but you don't have to worry about that here) First day I run in with 2 minutes to spare, find my name, check in. Being a newbie, Mike helped me wrap my hands (thank you!!), passed me a pair of gloves (wraps & rentals come with the promo) and off I went. I thought "It's been a while since I've went to the gym & im out of shape but hey, the muscle memory will kick in. #lightwerk" BRUH. The class is held in a group setting, super fast paced and you just keep going at it. First warm ups and then you start practicing your punches. I was struggling but Greg walked me through how to do everything - the whole time the pace of the workout never stopped. Then came the glorious 5 minutes where we rested as he set up the room and explained how to do the different exercises - circuit style. You won't get bored because there's literally no time to be bored. My second class was with the fierce af Sonia and she also came around and walked me through proper form, never slowing down the pace of the class. Her arm workouts are crazy but maybe my traps and triceps will finally come out of hiding. My shirt was drenched after her 7am class. (I am NOTTTTTT a morning person but her class is worth waking up for) Honestly the best thing is that the instructors don't make you feel like crap when you struggle or need to fix something multiple times. They pay attention, step in when you need it, and definitely motivate/push you. I don't write reviews (this is my first one) but WTF is seriously dope af so go try it out It's been 2 days & my body is sore in places I didn't know could be sore AND IT HURTS SO GOOD SO YOULL DEFINITELY WANT TO COME BACK. read more

Had an injury while on a membership promo for 5 days. tried to contact their management for three days re a way to work around the membership. No repose whatsoever. The front desk staff are helpful but despite them flagging the situation, there was no way of contacting the "management" besides an email address that is basically a black hole. Very disappointed since I did enjoy the first two classes that I took at WTF. Now it feels like when they take the money they just don't want to deal with any accidents that a member may have. read more

This is a great real boxing gym. All the instructors are top-notch and friendly and will train you on your boxing techniques and conditioning. The classes are fun and will work you hard but everyone goes at their own pace so beginners have nothing to worry about. The gym is spacious, there are lockers and showers, and they provide boxing gloves. The boxing community there is composed of people training for boxing competitions as well as those there for just conditioning and recreation. Everyone is friendly and supportive and there is a sizable female membership. They have a good intro gym package as well. read more

The gym is awesome, it has a lot of boxing equipments, as well as weight lifting equipments. The coaches are amazing, very professional, very easy going, and provide great knowledge to the sport of boxing. Ive been going to this gym on and off since 2015 (less from 2017-2020 because I moved further away) AND now have been doing their live streaming classes. They have always been a GOOD gym, with excellent instructors, wonderful facilities (and this is even before the renovation/upgrade). They are killing it on zoom-- a wide variety of boxing, cardio focused boxing, strength, yoga, salsa, still doing their fight night, etc. I didnt know how boxing would translate over to Zoom but its honestly they make it work. Not the same as a boxing bag but you truly dont miss it if that makes sense. And the classes overall are consistently GOOD, yesterday Katelyn was able to make realllllly helpful corrections while still teaching so I mean kudos (and thank you!) to her. I tried a lot of online workouts but WTF blows all of them out of the water. read more

Boxing gyms are different because everyone is trying to do the same thing with different stages and abilities. I LOVE this place. It is in essence a cool boxing gym where you can g to sharpen your craft as a novice or as a professional. Very little ego and bull that sometimes you in get boxing gyms. Excellent merch..tees and sweaters if you are in to that type of stuff. Front desk is mad cool..What's up Buswick? My schedule at work changed so I had to join another gym. However I will be back! Amazing boxing gym! It's my new boxing home gym since Mendez Boxing closed when the pandemic first struck. The staff is great, the trainers are great and everyone who comes in, no matter if they're tearing the heavy bag apart with punches, are friendly af. I'm glad I've found this place. It's my church, my sanctuary, my second home. I do wish they had 2 rings but they make it work so outside of that whattaya waiting for?! C'mon down!! read more

Disclaimer: Please wear your own gloves and wraps when coming here. You can borrow from the gym but goddamn do those things smell. I imagine that smell to equate to something like a rancid dead animal that has been laying under your porch for about a month in a humid climate. Now picture that smell all over your hands. Now further picture that lingering for the entire rest of your day despite several hand washes and a manicure. Ugh. I had a good workout though. Did it in the group class but I am not sure it was for me. I am competitive but maybe it is just that I am a lover and not a fighter. Could also be that I went right after thanksgiving and was fighting a hangover more than the bag. Maybe I will go back and change my opinion soon but sticking with 3-star for now. Our instructor was great and really made you work hard. That is why I am going to say OK. If the instructor sucked this review would have been pretty bad. read more

Definitely one of my favorite exercise studios in NYC. I've only done group classes here and every time I finish feeling super pumped and loving it. WTF is very welcoming to newbies, so don't be intimidated by the number of regulars that are here. I used a new member promo that gave me free gloves and wraps, which was awesome. Feel free to ask the trainer to wrap your hands at the beginning of class (I still don't know how to do this properly...). I've done Box Work and Work classes with Rob and Alberto (who is the founder). Both classes and teachers were great, but I prefer Box Work because you'll get a chance to use gloves and punch bags. Teachers here just exude authority, so there is no complaining in WTF! You just do whatever they say and get a fantastic workout. You can see that they really keep the facility clean here. There are four showers in the women's locker room with ample shampoo/conditioner/body wash and towels provided. The only inconvenient thing is that the bathroom is located outside the studio. read more

A business is as good as its worst employee and WTF worst employee is Donavan. I have taken almost 10 of the beginner classes with him in the hopes he would be different next time. But no chance. He self admittedly says he is "A**hole". He is condescending and bully's participants of his class Constantly. I took his class on Dec 15th and 3 people left the class as they felt uncomfortable. Myself included. He personally stopped the class to identify my deficiencies in boxing. And told in front of the class if I don't want to learn I should leave. It's your beginner class. I am not supposed to know what I am doing as I am taking the class because I recognize I am not a talented boxer. Donavan also wears inappropriate attire to the class with pants which leave nothing to be imagined. Finally he says "go leave and write a bad review about me and don't come back to my class". If a business can't stop something like this they are contributing to the problem hence I write a review on the whole business. The company is great all the instructors are good except Donovan. Take the classes just not his if you are not in peak performance and don't mind be ridiculed in front of people. WTF if you don't resolve him you will lose new people trying to join your programs. WTF is the best gym in the city. From the amazing trainers, to the incredibly sexy facility, to the best workout you can get in NYC- this is the real deal. And I mean BEST workout- as someone who has taken every method from Barre to Cross Fit, Spin to Hot HIIT classes- you will not find a better gym with better people anywhere in the city. Did I mention the trainers are all hot?! And the members are incredibly friendly to boot! They have free towels, free glove rentals, free wraps, showers, and awesome equipment. It's also a much better membership deal financially than most gyms in the city. Also lots of class times which makes scheduling easy. They also cater to all fitness/boxing experience levels with PT sessions and different level classes- so that you can grow and master new skills over time. They made the gym larger... which was my one and only complaint ! This place is beyond fantastic, the owner is such a part of the community..hosting boxing events ( which I haven't been but look so cool.. I will HAVE to go next time!) and also has a youth program that helps under privileged kids get off the streets and channel their energy into the boxing sport. He has a heart a gold, and you can tell he is an extremely caring person, about his craft, the community and people around him. This place feels like a family, everyone is kind and down to earth.. but will kick your ass. Everyone is friendly and remembers you. They have a great variety of classes and options for style of session. I tried lots of boxing gyms on ClassPass and WTF is by far the best. The coaches are amazing (Nikki and Greg in particular), the space is highly functional and well-equipped, and the classes are lots of fun. There is a lot of focus on technique, but you'll also get a great workout. Everyone is friendly and on average, folks that come here are interested in good form on top of fitness. This gym is everything! A community, a family, a place to feel empowered, challenged, and accomplished. WTF trainers are motivational and professional. WTF members are supportive and friendly. This is a no-nonsense gym where you learn REAL BOXING. Many of the trainers are actual fighters that teach boxing and coach you to fight (if that's what you're looking for). Get a great workout and make friends! This gym is very much a part of my NYC life. I've been a loyal member for 2 years, and still come 4 times a week (even after I moved to Brooklyn). This boxing gym is one of the most complete boxing places in the city, with some of the best instructors. The highest tier monthly membership ($197) includes 2 semi-private / 1 private training session per month, as well as one boxing class per day. This is excellent, boxers and boxettes. Do you know how hard it is to find trainers to do legit padwork with you in this city without dropping your rent money for private training sessions? Not the weak 1-2 pattycake ad infinitum variety either. The classes are general HIIT format with boxing specific exercises interspersed but you can really test and strengthen your skills in the PT/semi-private classes. There you receive specific corrections and more nuanced instruction. Worth its weight in gold. It's recent expansion is amazing! It's all grown up! New equipment, new space, spa-like locker rooms, oh you spoilt us Alberto. The old-school crumbling boxing gyms in city has its place but there is only so many times a girl can get ringworm before fleeing for a place with standard of hygiene. They are also active supporters of various charities and have a non-profit geared towards at-risk youths. That more than anything drew me here. A gym with a mission! So you have heart, you have the head (intelligent instruction), and you have the hand: the staff have been with WTF for some time and all are experienced and have their own styles. There is an encouraging place for all levels here, from beginner to those wanting to learn to spar, to budding fighters. All seem to be equal. Whatever your goal, I think they'll get it done. When I first tried Work Train Fight I took Box Group on classpass and after thought "Oh my god that was so embarrassing I can never show my face here again". I realized the class I had signed up for was way over my level since I was brand new to boxing. I started taking the Box Group 101 classes with Alberto and Josh and they are awesome! You learn the fundamentals and proper techniques while getting a great cardio workout. After a few classes in 101 I started taking the regular Box Group and am hooked. Boxing is an amazing way to relieve stress especially after a long day or week at work. I always feel excited to come to WTF. I can understand how WTF can be intimidating at first especially if you are not used to a boxing gym. I came from mainly working out at pilates and barre classes and was freaked out when I first walked into WTF. All the trainers I have met there have always been nice. I have never met a "mean trainer". This place is unpretentious and if you really want to learn how to box they take the time to help teach you. Box Group and Work have about 15 to 20 participants, if that is not your style I always see smaller groups of 3 to 5 or lots of 1 on 1 training as well. If you do not want to sweat this is not the place for you. You will leave WTF feeling like you got your ass kicked everytime and covered in sweat but isn't that what you pay for? Lastly, I have noticed they do lots of things for the community and are frequently putting on events to help the community. This is not your average boutique gym that just cares about $$$. This is the time I wish Yelp had more than 5 stars because this place deserves it. I heard about this place from Vanida (a trainer at WTF) a year ago, I had torn two of my ligaments in my ankle so I waited until I healed until going. One year later I'm so happy I was introduced to this place. Upon arrival you hear really upbeat music, not too loud that you can't hear yourself talk, the vibe is just energetic and it just looks like a club with a boxing ring in the middle. There are showers, lockers, free glove rentals, the big boss Alberto is almost always near the front desk directing people and helping them with their wraps. What I really liked is he actually taught my friend how to wrap her hands and why he did it that way, very educational. Now to the good stuff, I only do personal training here with Vanida ( who is amazing btw and adjusts every move to fix my ankle injury) but every single trainer here is super nice, no judgement, always smiling and just focused on boxing. No one is hitting on you ( which gets very annoying at any gym). Also, doesn't smell sweaty at all. (Huge plus) read more

This is only for the group boxing class. The actual gym, facility and vibe is 3.5 stars. I came here with Class Pass and was very disappointed with the "intermediate Boxing Class" mainly because - On CP, it stated " Their small group boxing sessions....", yet, there are 20 people in the class. In their regular Box Work, it stated " Their boxing and circuit training class...", it didn't state "small" and yet, there were less people for the Box Work than Intermediate Boxing class". When you have 20 people in a class, out of the entire 55 minutes of class, you only have 2 minutes in total with the instructor, and that is 2 minutes sharing the instructor with another 3 people at once. The instructor rarely has anytime for you. I have been WTF Chelsea, Gotham Gym in West Village and Soho and Equinox, they all are much better because the class is much smaller and you actually box. WTF Chelsea might not have better facility than here, but the instructor Brian who teaches there is much more attentive to the student than the instructors here. My first experience with WTF was with Brian in the Chelsea studio, it was a good class, which is why I thought I'd come here to give it a try, but it was very disappointing. I don't think it is because of the instructor, but it's because the class was way too big than it is supposed to be. The gym it self and the vibe itself was actually very energetic. While I was waiting for the class to start, I also saw some people who were going private training session, one of the person had really bad form when she was doing cardio work, her instructor didn't even correct her, which was also very shocking to me. I have been going to different classes with Class Pass and I am a regular Equinox member, after seeing all the reviews on WTF and actually experienced it myself, I'd recommend other places including WTF Chelsea. read more

This place is on the same block as my office so I used to go her back when they offered kickboxing as well as boxing. Well, I returned a few years later when I joined the dreaded ClassPass in an effort to broaden my horizons beyond running and biking around the park. The owner, Alberto, is a super nice guy, and the same goes for every trainer i've met here. It's clean, the locker rooms continue to be excellent (3 showers in the girls' one), and the classes are challenging. Honestly, if I had to say a bad thing about the place it's that I left my most recent class here with shaking arms. I appreciate the toughness, but i do wish there were a range of classes--not just either A) total beginners intro to boxing or B) OH MY GOD I CAN'T HOLD THIS MEDICINE BALL OVER MY HEAD ANYMORE. Perhaps when i get more used to abuse in the fitness department I'll return and have a less grueling experience. Perhaps it was just the instructor I had. I forget his name, but he seemed pretty intent on this whole training-for-the-end-of-the-world motif, which probably accounted for my jelly arms. Anyway, I would recommend this place over Overthrow--though the space is much less curated and "cool" it's more spacious, less smelly, and there's actually enough room to throw a punch. Starting on my 3rd year at this gym. Differences from your normal gym: * the floor is for trainers or classes only, not open for general usage * instructors vary in their structure of classes, but every single one will kick your ass * if you're a member, you can leave your gloves & wraps in the back room. but there isn't locker space besides to use during class. If you don't like being yelled at or you don't know what a burpee is, maybe consider something else. If you've done an ironman, even you will be challenged here...! NOTE: if you're a newbie/groupon/classpass/whatever...welcome!...but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show up early enough to get your wraps put on etc vs delay class!! read more

This review is for the Box Work class that I took via ClassPass . I have never done a boxing class before, and this was my first time stepping into a boxing gym at all, so I can't really say how it compares to other boxing gyms. Loud, energetic, filled with a ton of people both on the floor and in boxing rings but not overcrowded - a little intimidating but also very energizing. The guys at the front desk were really nice and helpful and they took the time to wrap people's wrists before class. They provide gloves for free or you're welcome to bring your own. They do not provide wraps for free, but they sell them there (although I found that I was fine without them for the class). The class started with a warmup that consisted of jumping jacks followed by various sequences of boxing moves broken up by burpees, mountain climbers, and pushups. As someone with absolutely no prior boxing knowledge, I was a little disappointed that there was no basic instruction at the start of the class. For example, I didn't know which foot was supposed to go in front (FYI left foot for right handed folks.. oops... did that wrong for the first half of warmup) and the instructor never explained what the various moves (jab, undercut, etc) were before jumping into sequences. The class did get started late, so maybe he cut out giving direction due to the time constraint. After warmup, we put on our gloves and rotated through a circuit that consisted of punching bags, floor work with weights, and jabs/hooks/etc with the instructor. You move through each one quickly, which gets your heart rate up pretty nicely. After this is finished, we go back to the floor and finish the class by doing a fast paced run through of planks, burpees, push ups, and sit ups. Overall, I got more cardio out of it than I did strength training - If you exercise regularly with weights, this workout shouldn't leave you sore the next day, but it does get you sweating profusely throughout so you feel like you got a good workout in by the end of it. I think it was a fun class that got me pumped up, but I'm still unsure if boxing is for me :) read more

I took my first class yesterday via class pass. I'm actually mad that I can only take 2 classes for the remaining of March!!! (I smell a purchase of classes coming along!) When I walked in, I was shit intimated, due to the big boxing ring, & underground fight club atmosphere. However, everyone who worked there, or was working out there, was nice, and energetic. Melissa, who checked me in, was SO sweet, helpful, and super nice!! She made you feel more at ease. The class I took, box class, was basically a drill type class. I enjoyed it. The instructor should use a mic when instructing: just saying. I'd definitely recommend this class to a beginner. You'd enjoy it, and get a good burn. I bought a package of three classes and gloves for $47 with my boyfriend. The trainers here are great and the classes are a lot of fun. The first session we went to was their Box Work class. Since we are beginners, it was a little bit challenging keeping up with the combinations. The second class we signed up for - Box Group - was a bit more introductory and I would recommend taking that first if you are new to boxing. Box Group felt more like strength and conditioning, going over the boxing fundamentals, while Box Work had more endurance/stamina training. I would DEFINITELY recommend bringing your own wraps and gloves. My package was supposed to come with gloves, but their shipment has been delayed. In the meantime, I've been using their rentals and they smell so bad!! read more

I signed up for a Personal Trainer at WTF about 7 months ago with the intention of losing weight and changing my lifestyle for healthier habits. I had never been to a gym and knew that I would not go unless I had some gentle prodding to make a commitment. I got placed with the trainer Jason Miranda. J eased me into the process of making informed, proper lifestyle choices (eating, etc.) and counseled me into establishing proper form in strength training. Under his guidance and conditioning he has contributed to me losing 42 lbs to date (!!!). He is informed, constantly educating himself and passing on his knowledge so that I can develop better techniques and consistently challenge myself. The facility is clean, the equipment is up-to-date and the staff and other trainers are very cool and relatable. Everyone makes you feel like you belong and it genuinely feels like they want you to succeed in your goals (btw, the best part of the change rooms is the individual shower/change stalls - comfort awaits). In conclusion, I am lucky to have met Jason and had the opportunity to train under is tutelage. I'll be ever grateful for his contribution to my health. We have definitely made strides in changing my lifestyle into making healthy choices. Jason and WTF have aided me hitting my goals and getting into the best shape I ever have been in. read more

3 syllables...AL-BER-TO!!! I've never been much of a gym rat but more of an outdoor sports type. When you live in the city during the winter time, it's hard to find places to stay active either finding tennis courts & players or it gets really dark and dangerous for a chick to run outdoors after work. I saw a promotion for WORK on lifebooker - $45 for 6 bootcamp boxing/kickboxing sessions. I have absolutely no upper body strength but loved it! Who ever knew this would give you a good cardio workout? I'm hooked and will be coming here regularly in the upcoming months. It's a bit pricey. If you get a pack of 40, it comes out to $23/session. The classes are co-ed with a guy gal ratio of 1:3. Vibrant music, scheduled drills, great instructions on flow and form. You'll walk out of class having sweat a gallon of water and using musles you've never known you had. Oh yeah, facility is very clean, coded lockers if you don't have personal locks, 3-4 showers in the ladies room. It has been open for about 2 yrs and not overly crowded (which I like) but that can all change after this review! read more

Absolutely love this gym. The facility is ideal for a novice or a pro that wishes to practice the sport of boxing. I was under the impression that boxing was a simple man's game. The expert staff at WTF have shown me otherwise. The Boxing classes are exhausting in the most amazing and satisfying way. Boxing is an incredibly fun way to get your ideal body. Work Train Fight is amazing. The moment you walk into the gym, whether you are a regular or new, they will make you feel welcomed instead of feeling intimidated. All of the trainers here are super friendly and they really care about your well being. They aren't just there to drill you, they are there to help you make the most out of your workout, and they will connect with you on a personal level too. Alberto, the owner of the gym is incredible. He seems tough and really pushes you to the max, but he does it for your own good. Alberto, and another trainer, Tafari, aren't there to just run classes, they talk to you and break down what you need to do to make yourself better. This gym is one of the best gyms in NYC. All of the trainers are incredibly knowledgeable and approachable, meaning you can get the corrections and attention you need for real results. The gym itself is clean and the equipment is new and functioning. They offer a few different types and levels of classes, meaning there's something for everyone. I've taken them all--they're tough, you'll sweat, and your muscles will thank you (later). My only advice to new members is to be honest with yourself about how much boxing experience. That means, don't just jump into an intermediate class and then complain that it's too fast and you didn't pick it up, and that somehow that's the gym's fault. The owners, the trainers, the members--this gym is an incredible community of people who are there to push themselves to be better. I came to WTF for personal fitness and got matched up with Luke Barrett! I've had personal trainers before but Luke was amazing. He provided me with a variety of workouts to challenge and push my body and increase my performance. His boxing regimen and training were tough but awesome! Luke was very good at getting the best out of me, I'm twice the athlete I was before working with Luke at WTF. The facility itself has great equipment that is very versatile and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. They have great fitness and boxing classes for all fitness levels. The place was always clean and fun to work out in! I def would recommend it! read more

Love love love! Great trainers, great atmosphere! Classes are fun and great structured plus they have a promo for 1 private session, 1 semi-private and a regular class + gloves, wraps and a bag (price varies - mine was under $100 but it's a bit more now I think). So worth it! Any little issue you may have - they'll fix it for you no problem. I had a session scheduled with one of the trainers for my intro deal and he double booked the time by mistake. So when I came in that morning (which was a Sunday and I traveled all the way from Queens to get there) I had no idea the time was also scheduled for someone else. I was simply paired up with a different instructor. No hustle, no questions. I'm kinda glad it turned out that way - Josh was fantastic! He started with explaining the basics and was constantly adjusting and correcting me as we proceeded through the sessions (both private and semi-private). He pushed me when he saw that I could do better but also listened when I needed to take it down a notch. Great gym sapce + locker rooms with showers (bring your lock!) I heard people who come in the first time say that it is intimidating - not at all. The whole team super friendly! I would say Shadowboxing or Overthrow are more intimidating at a first introduction. I would not compare those 3 though like some of the previous comments did. They all have different "personalities" and I while I love WTF and Overthrow I can't say I'm excited about Shadowbox. Five stars means WOOHOO! AS GOOD AS IT GETS! The review is long overdue. I've been going here since January 2012 and quite simply, it is awesome. The classes are great with challenging, great instructors and (mostly) awesome music. They are also spread out throughout the day. I was really really sore after my first class; it was actually kind of embarrassing. I personally recommend Donovan's class -- he asks about injuries, answers your questions, gives you a hard workout, and has the best music. Not all of the other instructors ask whether anyone has any injuries though. So if you have an injury, get there early and make sure you tell the instructor. The classes aren't cheap either (as indicated in other reviews). But I think the prices are pretty standard for workout classes in NY (Physique 57, Core Fusion, and most pilates classes are comparable if not a bit more). They also now have monthly memberships. The facilities are surprisingly nice, esp. the women's locker room. It has showers, a hairdryer, and a straightener, and it is really clean as well. Just bring a lock. The Work staff doesn't seem to appreciate when women use the number-coded lockers -- I guess those are supposed to be the men's lockers. read more

I attended one of Nikki's Box Group classes through Classpass and it was an awesome experience! My friend and I had never boxed before, so we were feeling a little apprehensive but it was more like a circuit training/boot camp-esque experience so once you get used to jabbing and swinging wildly (lose the sense of shame when you walk in the door) it's super fun. Work Train Fight itself is pretty small but there was enough room for all of us to run through calisthenics (burpees, high knees, butt kicks, pushups), weight train, practice on punching bags and with Nikki. One thing that I would add as a word of caution is that this class involves memorizing sequences of boxing moves - at times this got confusing and I had to use a lot of concentration to remember the sequences! At the beginning of the class (I know now that it was the warmup) I thought it might not be a very vigorous workout especially compared to previous classes I'd taken at Warrior Fitness Boot Camp but by the end I was sweaty as a pig and definitely a little sore the next day. Nikki was amazing and really patient especially with those of us who had trouble following sequences of instructions. She has great energy and was very motivating! I'd recommend this class to anyone who's looking for a unique and vigorous workout. read more

WORK has the best energy of any other gym in the city (says an Equinox member for over a year). Gotta love the boxing ring, the equipment, the staff, and the attention to detail (like the electronic locks!!). Alberto is the best trainer ever. He keeps changing up my work out so I'm knackered every time we work out together. And he notices stuff, like areas of improvement and then I wish so hard that he hadn't noticed :) If you are a regular with personal training - there is no other gym out there. Work Train Fight is one of THE TOP gyms in this city. Hands down. The trainers are professional and truly motivating. I've had the pleasure of getting my ass kicked by most the trainers there and yes, it's hard but it only inspires YOU to work harder, to dig down and deep and give it more when you feel like you have nothing left to give. Word of advice to first timers - it's a boxing gym, it isn't a Spa.. You shouldn't come to feel all warm and fuzzy inside. You should simply come to work your ass off. Classes max out at certain number and yes, the classes can often fill to capacity especially during after work hours... But truly it's a testament to the quality of training you receive. (And really - compared to how full the classes can get at the David Barton's and NY Sports clubs in this city.. come on) Pay attention and work hard.. Listen to your instructor but remember you aren't the only one in class.. If you need/want step by step personal directions for everything little thing.. Then well - they offer one on one personal training too and maybe that would work better for you. Have a sense of humor. Don't take everything so personal. In a world that's creating a softer generation by pandering to their every little need at the click of button it's nice to have a place that will tell you shut up, pay attention, work hard, and LISTEN... Try it their way.. You just may learn something. I for one am grateful to have my Work Train Fight community. They inspire to push myself in class, make laugh when it's over and still come back the next day for more. read more

An update. It's still awesome - every.single.time. But I also found my two new loves - Nikki and Alberto. I still think Eric is the best, but he is a tough love. So if you want to be treated a little nicer (or just happen to be very new to boxing) and still get a great workout, I'd say try Nikki or Alberto's classes. Also in Alberto's class, which got very full, we had another instructor (I forgot his name - he was a sweetheart) walked around and fixed our forms. That was really helpful. read more
