I'm in my mid-sixties, and for most of my life, my body was just a means to transport my head. But when overall wear-and-tear began to creep in, I decided to join this neighborhood gym to delay the ravages of time. Since the last time I did weight machines was in the Jack LaLanne/ Bally Total Fitness era, I decided to hire a trainer to give me a kind of orientation and help me launch a fitness routine. Liam came highly recommended. He customizes our sessions to reach my goals, and modifies them as my goals change. Liam knows my medical conditions, which he works with, and weak areas, which he helps me to strengthen. He suggests exercises I feel comfortable doing on my own in the gym, or at home. Liam can point out details of how a position or motion should feel, so I know when I'm doing it correctly. I have the attention span of a flea, yet he designs routines that are challenging and entertaining. He checks in often during a session, yet he can somehow inspire one or two more reps out of me than I believe possible. Befitnyc has a variety of classes which I've just begun to check out, from barre-pilates and tai chi to cross- and interval-training to zumba, all included in the very reasonable cost of membership. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the facilities are clean and well designed for a relatively small space. i joined because it's close to my apartment. on my very first day i was discriminated against by another gym member due to a disability and having a service animal. upon signing up, i was told this would happily be accommodated. this gym allows other gym members to harass people with service animals and they did nothing to fix the situation. they just kept telling me to exile myself in another room instead of use the machine i wanted to use. they allow toxic white male members to boss around female members who aren't even doing anything wrong. i will be filing a lawsuit for disability discrimination and will not be coming back here. this was a traumatic experience that i never hope to go through ever again. read more

Way too small, even for a small gym. Even with 4-5 people working out it feels packed. Even taking the machines out of it, there's really little space for floor exercises even. Factor in the trainers who frequent this place and aren't respectful of other people's space besides their clients, and you have a damn pressure cooker. Not worth it. Took a few classes and they were run of the mill. Staff and the owner are very friendly though. Overall just not worth the $; go with Body Strength Fitness on W106th for this type of bare bones gym instead. read more

This gym is so warm and welcoming it is THE ONLY gym I have felt comfortable in and much of that goes to the owners, Fernando & Mike, who are so kind and create such a wonderful environment. I used the machines and weights but also enjoy the Pilates class and would encourage anyone who has been skiddish about exercising, in public, to join! read more

Have been a member for several years, and I love the convenience, friendly atmosphere, and class options. I kept my membership through the pandemic even when the gym was closed, just to be sure this place stayed in business. But a couple of things need attention. The street-level entryway and stairs are grimy, not cleaned near enough. There's been homeless people living out in front under the scaffolding lately, and though it's not the owner's fault, he should at least be sure their trash is cleared from the front of the door (which also needs cleaning). Overall, I'm finding the cleanliness of the place isn't what it used to be. I've been back at the gym for classes two morning a week for months now and I haven't seen Fernando there even once. I think he needs to stop by more often. read more

I just started on a 3 day free promotion pass at befitnyc and I really love it. I plan on becoming a member. So nice to find a gym close to my home that has almost everything I need to work out. This will make my commitment to being healthier much easier to achieve. I love this place. Never crowded, it has such a quiet, wonderful vibe. The owner Fernando, is very nice and very hands on with his clients. The staff is very nice and accommodating. There are great exercise and classes and the small gym is immaculate and has just enough workout equipment to keep everyone happy. They have zumba, body conditioning, yoga and pilates classes. Because it is a new facility, they are still adding new classes and instructors to their roster. Matthew is the best! The facility is beautiful and very clean. There are no showers or water facilities there but there are two small locker rooms for dressing. They also offer free hand towels and bottled water. it is a great boutique gym for serious people in the neighborhood that need to get in and out quickly. read more

Tried this spot out for the first time with ClassPass. I signed up for the circuit workout on a Friday with Eve. Apparently it was her last class at this locations which is sad because I loved my workout even though it kicked my butt. It was tough but I was pushed to go as far as I could and felt comfortable. Awesome boutique gym for those in the UWS area! It offers plenty of great classes and enough variety for everyone (classes are included in the monthly membership fee). The room where the classes take place is also very nice. For those that prefer to use weights, there is also a weight room section with both free weights and machines (plus two treadmills, two ellipticals, and one rowing machine). While the weight room section is on the smaller side (this is NYC after all), I have never had a problem with it being crowded and I've rarely had to wait for anything (people are great about sharing). I went to befitnyc with my Classpass membership to make use of the facility for gym time. I was immediately greeted by a very friendly front desk attendant who gave me a quick tour around the facilities. This gym is very small, it has two ellipticals, two treadmills, and a smattering of free and machine weights. Additionally. it has a classroom studio, that they offer for use when classes aren't in session. I got the feel that it is typically used by people working out with a trainer, which for that it is perfectly suited. Two women were working with trainers while I completed my workout. The gym was definitely functional, equipped, and very clean, but might not be easiest choice if you're doing a self workout and just want more space to move about. read more

I've been a member of BeFitNYC for the past year, and I'm so sad to be moving from the area! The staff is always super friendly, and they really make an effort to get to know you. The owner, Fernando, is also so welcoming! I would highly recommend taking his Ultimate Conditioning class. Although the gym is small, it gets the job done and has enough basic equipment. Sometimes the treadmills and ellipticals are all taken during busy times, around 5-7pm. The gym is also super clean and new, and they have complimentary towels. I chose this gym because they have unlimited fitness classes at a reasonable price, with a discounted membership for students. The classes and instructors are also extremely high quality! I absolutely love taking barre classes with Jessica and Denise, and I've really enjoyed HIIT with Matthew and Mara! The HIIT classes are especially challenging, but I appreciate how the instructors show you how to modify exercises if necessary. All of the instructors at BeFitNYC are so motivating and energetic, I will definitely miss them and hope I can come back to visit soon! read more

I've taken what feels like every single kind of fitness class in NYC over the past few years, and paid far too much for boutique "fancy" brands like solidcore and equinox -- but the classes and energy of BeFitNYC might just be the best I've found (and delivered the best results to boot!) I can't speak for the gym-only side, as I just come for classes, but they're high-energy, intense, challenging, and *fun*! While I wish there were *more* classes daily, the ones that are on offer (nearly all taught simultaneously on Zoom and in person) are excellent! And the 120 dollar monthly no-contract price is one of those "too good to be true" deals. (The nearby equinox, by contrast, is $265 with a strict twelve month contract, and I prefer the classes at BeFit!) read more

I absolutely love this gym. I recently moved to the neighborhood and was looking for a place to workout and take a variety of classes. BeFit exceeded all my expectations. It's a super clean, small gym, and really affordable compared to everything else in NY. For the monthly unlimited package you get to go to all the classes you want plus use the gym equipment whenever. What really sold me the first time I went to visit was the friendly staff, the cleanliness, and the fact that they give you a clean towel every time you go and if you do yoga they even have their own mats. I've been at the gym for a month now and what I love the most is the sense of community. Once you start to attend classes regularly you realize that it's usually the same people every week - from students, to young professionals, to older people. Most importantly Fernando (the owner) really makes you feel at home. The Ultimate Conditioning class he teaches is my favorite - challenging but fun (he knows everyone's name, so if you stop at any point in class he'll call you). When I moved to Morningside Heights for a six-month period, my first priority was finding a gym. The Columbia gym was an option, but an atrocious one. I wanted a gym where I could be left alone to do my thing, put on my headphones, and have it be immaculately clean. I don't need shower, sauna, pool, etc. This gym was perfect for me. I was one of the only folks not working out with a trainer, but I was indeed left alone to do my workout. I always had access to the machines I wanted. It's a nice, light space, and the group fitness room was often available for stretching. I was sad to leave the gym when I moved, and would highly recommend it. read more

I love this gym!!!! I have been going here for almost a year. The facilities are great- they are super clean and the gym has everything I need: weights, ellipticals, bikes, treadmills. I really like that everyone is really friendly here and the gym is small but it is never super crowded. I can always get on the machine I want. I am not much of a class person but the classes I did try were great! The student rate is also really reasonable. I would definitely recommend checking this gym out! read more

I'm so sad to leave this neighborhood and leave this gym. It has great sunlight, so it's not like smelly like other studios. It's not big, but has all the basics. The classes here are awesome; the instructors are great at making the exercises accessible to everyone, no matter how much experience you have, so they're great for learning new things or refining older skills. The gym is a little small, but all the trainers I've met there have been really cool about making sure they're not invading my space while they're working with their clients, and it's never been so crowded that I felt like I couldn't get a great workout in. Great neighborhood gym, friendly staff, and it's never too crowded. They have a nice mix of machines, weights, and classes, and it's kept very clean. Most of the classes they offer are early in the day, and it closes at 9 on weeknights and 6 on weekends, so it can be hard to get there for people who work late. So sorry to have to give this studio such a low rating. It has great potential, being clean and bright and well located, close to subway and in a neighborhood that desperately needs more yoga studio choices. The yoga classes they offer are fine for what they are if you like a very slow paced class. They advertise two basic types: "Slow Flow," and "Vinyasa." In my experience, the Saturday morning "Vinyasa" class as taught by the current regular instructor is in fact a "Slow Flow" class---fine it if that is what you want, but disappointing if you sign up expecting something other than a Slow Flow. I complained and they said they would correct the problem but they didn't. read more
