Had two great experiences at Fhitting Room! I am very unathletic and not in shape, so it was intimidating at first walking in, but the staff and the instructors are friendly and made me feel welcome and hype to be there. Garen and Eric were really fun, helped me with my technique, and allowed me to make modifications. The workouts were very challenging but engaging, and it definitely felt like an accomplishment once I finished. There's a lot of different equipment I used during the sessions, which is fun to try out (at least for someone like me who never goes to the gym otherwise lol). I also found that the people in the room are encouraging, and it felt like we were in it together. read more

Gym was pretty good. The trainers are pretty good at correcting form. Not sure how I feel about the tvs showing the moves I find it kind of odd. Workout space js small for amount of people in there. If you're not that far away I would recommend otherwise probably not. read more

This review was in my drafts that was never submitted from 2019: It is very clean and well maintained facility. I absolutely LOVE the instructors here - Melody, Riley, Eric, Simon (just to name a few). I love that the trainers always catches me slacking in class and motivates me to work harder (of course that makes sense since I paid $$$$ to attend). There are two trainers for every class instead of one. I like that the trainers are always there to correct me if I am doing a workout the wrong way (so I don't hurt myself). They are very proactive and enthusiastic. The workouts are always different and I feel like I definitely get a great workout every class and it is worth spending the money for me to keep myself in check. You must check-in to the class and arrive on time. They have showers in the back, plastic bags for your gym clothes, towels, etc. ***Recently I've attended some strength classes with Alex and she was very attentive and energetic. I'm always sweating and so sore the next day. They do try to help members of all fitness levels and make them feel comfortable. read more

Great workouts! I love the combination of weights, HITT and cardio. The instructors were engaging and high energy. I especially loved the format and the use of kettlebells. 50 minutes flew by and it was a full body workout. My sister goes regularly and I attended two classes as her guest. The instructors were welcoming. I found the workouts easy to follow but appreciated the quick demo of correct moves. I would definitely do this class again! read more

I had an AMAZING time here! The workout was great and the instructor Ben was great too. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. The facility is very clean and you can tell that a lot of that was put into the design and amenities they provide. It was my first time taking a class here but the people that were taking the class as well were very helpful in showing me things i didn't get. The instructor Ben also checked in and gave encouragement. I would recommend arriving 5-10 mins before class to get yourself together. Once the class starts you won't be able to join. The workout is hard in the best way possible, despite class size of 24 there was still some individual instruction, and facilities/amenities are pristine. They have bags to put your sweaty clothes in, showers were super clean, felt like the body wash/shampoo was high quality, and overall offered everything I needed to go straight to work after the class. read more

Obsessed with the entire experience. Classes are a combination of HIIT, cardio and weight training. It's a great (and often challenging!) workout, but the trainers make it fun. I think fitness classes can sometimes feel intimidating, but that's not the case here at all- the entire staff (from trainers to front desk staff) are so friendly and helpful and seem to genuinely want you to enjoy your experience. read more

I took my first class through a ClassPass trial I had at the Fhtting Room Upper West Side. The front desk folks who were there helped me check in, explained all the facilities, and I have to say I was very impressed! It is very hars to find a gym that has both a sufficient workout space, but also amenities that people on the go can utilize like clean and comfortable showers, restrooms, lockers et cetera... I knew found my gym! Dale the instructor was great encouraging, and didn't come off as cheesy or robotic (which sometimes happens at places like these). My class pass trial ends today and since I enjoyed working out at the fhitting room so much I figured I would just buy a monthly unlimited membership outright at the end of my 11 AM session today. Unfortunately, as I was en route to an 11:00 a.m. class today when I arrived at 11:03 (I know this because I parked my car at 10:59 AM and have the parking reciept to show it) I was told I could not enter the class because "they had just finished the warm up" and they have a very strict policy on if you finish the warm up you're not able to enter. I understand a policy is a policy but (1) it was one I was not aware of, and (2) moreover there's a certain sense of professionalism that comes in running a business like this where grace and leniency around these policies are expected and often considered. Sure if I showed up at 11:05 and people were well into the circuit with their weights I would have understood...If I showed up at 11:10 that's entirely too late to expect to jump right into a workout class... but for someone like me who comes all the way from Washington Heights to attend a class on the Upper West side, it is beyond a mild inconvenience to be told after driving for nearly 40 minutes in traffic, finding parking, paying for parking, over extending myself to ensure that I am able to attend this class and entering just a short few minutes too late that I simply cannot attend because of because "we would get into toeubke if we let you in". I come all the way from Washington Heights to take this class so to say that is an easy journey via car, metro, uber, or bus is not easy. Just for fun, I checked, an Uber to get to the class today wouldve cost me $37. After pleading and explaining my situation a bit more to no avail the 2 teenagers who worked the front desk, they still refused to let me in. I very politely explained to them that I was fully ready and committed to purchasing my unlimited membership today because I enjoyed working out so much. As concerned as they may be about getting in trouble for letting a customer in late, the bigger concern should be on how that customer responds to an issue of this. YOU'VE NOW LOST A CUSTOMER! It never ceases to amaze me how in a city full of workout options these studios can let patrons go so easily... Tangentially, I will never forgive the pandemic for closing what was my favorite workout studio in the city. They had a very forgiving tardiness policy, fantastic instructors, and a reasonably priced unlimited monthly membership. Based on other reviews I'm sure this facility will be just fine but it's a strong no for me. Time is valuable commodity on both ends of this transaction and for me I don't have the time, energy, or money to worry about an incident like this happening again. I've never been a huge fan of boutique workout places when my gym offered the same caliber of classes, but the Fhitting Room has changed my mind. The fact that there are two instructors instead of one really makes a world of difference when it comes to correcting form. Each time I've taken a class here, I've gotten more hands on attention than I have in any of my gym classes. The instructors are friendly and don't make you feel bad if you can't complete an exercise or you are slower than the others in the class (describing a friend, not me obviously... I can do 100 burpees in less than 2 minutes). They do a great job motivating you and offer a variety of modifications to make exercises easier or more intense. It's close to my apartment too, so I know I'll definitely be back. read more

I really do love Fhitting Room! As a frequent Classpass user, this is probably my favorite fitness studio in all of NYC. The classes are always challenging and fun. I love the variety of equipment that is used for each class. The instructors are normally fantastic. They walk around and correct form as well as modify exercises for you. I removed a star due to it being expensive. With classpass, I can only go about twice a month. I wish they had sales like other fitness studios...but it is what it is. read more

The Fhitting Room finally has a location on the Upper West Side for our workout fhix! It's been open for a few months at this point, but its definitely a welcome fitness studio addition to the UWS. Previously, I was making the trek over to the Flatiron location just to take a class - it was that much worth it. This studio is smaller than the Flatiron location, but it's clean. You might have to wait for a bathroom though. Sometimes the floor in the actual workout area is a little damp/sweaty from a prior class. The Fhitting Room Signature Fhix classes are so much fun that the time flies by each time. All of the instructors I have were upbeat, super energetic, and give the right amount of motivation without being annoying. Note that there are normally two instructors that tag-team and teach the class. These classes are usually packed to capacity, so there's not as much 1:1 time as some of the other studios I've been to, but they make sure to teach you the correct way to do things prior. The class usually starts with a warm up, then some strength aspect, the main part of the workout where you cycle through 5-6 stations, and then a burn out at the end. I like that you don't really get bored here because there's usually 5-6 stations and each station targets a different muscle group. Music has always been on point when I'm here as well. I noticed that I don't burn as many calories as other classes I take (via Apple watch) probably because it's not an hour-long class and sometimes there is a bit of standing around watching the instructors guide you through the stations, but it's still a fun (and one of my favorites) work out and I will continue to swing by. read more

The place kicked my butt and I love the instructors! The class has so many different components that it's very mentally absorbing and the time flies. I love the station workouts and actually learned a few new exercises, too. (I see you, kettlebell crunch, and my abs think about you for daaays.) I experienced this to be a positive and healthy environment that is challenging and uplifting without seeming disingenuous. I definitely recommend checking it out, there are folks of all different levels and a good mix of people. The instructors don't let anyone flounder, either. Everyone gets attention, motivation, and kind corrections if they need them. I've recommended to a bunch of friends. read more

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review. I just took my 100th class at Fhitting Room! I love it! The workout is fierce, but you can always modify or scale. The equipment is awesome (ropes, ski ergs, kettlebells, TRX, bosu balls). But what really makes this place incredible are the instructors. They are smart, motivating, and know their stuff. They push me when I need to be pushed and make me laugh when I'm dying on the air assault bike. They are strict about form, and are able to take any injuries into account to help you modify. I also love that for such a tough workout, the instructors are friendly, down-to-earth actual humans (with six-pack abs) who want you to be your best. I've grown stronger, leaner and more confident than I was 100 classes ago. Absolutely love this place! read more

I received a complimentary class via Well + Good's promotion with Fhitting Room, and I'm super glad I got to try it out! Fhitting Room is great for all levels as you really can go at your own pace and choose your weights. Of course, there is some pressure and motivation as there are a few rounds of partner work that depends on say, reaching 8 burpees, etc. but even then, there's no right or wrong. A great intro to HIIT! I love that there are two instructors as it really does help with clarity, and the energy becomes 2x as energetic. The classes aren't too big at this location which is nice as well- I feel less frantic about what to do next. The studio itself was very clean, plenty of space to get ready at. Everything is unisex in terms of showers and locker rooms. Front desk was great. For $30 something dollars a class, it is a bit too high for my liking but if it fits into your price range, I urge you to try it! read more

Maybe I am spoiled cause lived in LA with some amazing instructors but this place is not worth money. I honestly got a way better work out walking home than on this class. I booked on ClassPass, and the ClassPass description literally says to call if you're going to be late. I was 4 minutes late because my daughter was crying on my way out the door. They wouldn't let me into the class after I paid for the class and the Uber there and back. Makes no sense - I'm pretty sure the warmup wasn't even over either yet because the music wasn't on yet. Safe to say I won't be returning to a place that wastes my precious time as a working mom and is completely unreasonable and inflexible - too many boutique gyms with the same concept to deal with this. read more

The newest Fhitting Room location has finally opened -- and I'll admit, I'm still a fan! To be honest, this location is pretty far out of the way for me, so it's unlikely I'll become a regular here but I have to say, there are some serious upgrades. The class area itself is on the smaller end -- think capacity of the Penthouse location (so not as many spots as Flatiron) but the studio as a whole is so spacious and took some serious design upgrades. There are 4 showers here!!! FOUR!!! Waiting in long lines to shower after morning classes may become a thing of the past. This is really great news for those of us who like to start off the day right. Now, onto the workout -- for those who know Fhitting Room, you should expect nothing less from this location vs. others. I've written a more formal review of Fhitting Room in my other reviews, but in short -- this is a HIIT class and one of the best in the city (if not THE best in the city!!) What I love about Fhitting Room is that it truly is an open-level workout. Anyone from beginners to the fhittest of the fit can challenge themselves here. I also love that the classes are led by 2 instructors, so you always feel that you're getting the guidance and attention you need to perform exercises effectively and safely. I don't know what I was doing before Fhitting Room but I kinda feel like I can't have been living life right. They were amazing and super encouraging the entire time and even took the time to walk me through each part of the circuit. A HIIT/circuit workout that uses kettlebells, TRX bands, and mixture of equipment for cardio elements during the circuit. Pros: two instructors in each class who actually demo moves and make corrections, format is the same (cardio warmup, kettlebell set, short abs, circuits in small groups, cardio/HIIT set, cooldown) but moves are different (except kettlebells are kinda repetitive), friendly people in class, not intimidating vibe Cons: so much standing around when instructor demos moves and changing out weights that isn't as challenging as I'd like, floor is little gross and mats aren't usually offered, spots are numbered on ceiling but spacing is always an issue I like it for an occasional ClassPass visit. Few dollars more expensive than competition and don't think it's that worth extra cost. read more

My absolute favorite fitness class in NYC and you can trust that I've tried basically everything. The instructors are incredible and the workouts change often to keep everything feeling fresh. Not only has this transformed my body, but additionally, I look forward to class so much. The instructors truly care about form, pushing you, and keeping you safe at the same time. A boutique fitness experience 100% worth your money. The studio is slightly smaller that the Flatiron location but feels much less overwhelming and crowded. Everything is super clean. Each class has 2 amazing instructors (I have been at least 15 times and have never been underwhelmed) that have great chemistry with each other. The workout itself is very manageable for anyone in decent shape. My only complaint is that you stop a lot between sections of the workout because there is a lot of explanation involved in how to do everything. By the time I get the hang of one station I feel like we are switching. However, its worth going just for the great tips and corrections the instructors offer. read more

Workout is amazing. I am pretty active--workout 5x a week--and do a variety of circuit training, barre, running, yoga, and strength training. Fhitting Room is challenging every time I go! The instructors will push you and correct you on form, which I love. The circuits are also always changing, because they vary week-to-week and class-by-class. There are two trainers for every class, which means they can instruct and help more students in each class. I really notice a difference after consistently doing to Fhitting Room classes. Some people on here seem to be complaining about the "standing around" while instructors are demonstrating. This is a HIIT class, designed to have you work hard for intervals, and then rest. The instruction is also meant to guide you, so you are not going to ruin your form and hurt yourself. I'd prefer this over rushing through a workout and doing a move incorrectly. The class is also insanely challenging, so it's nice to have a breather after an intense 5 minutes of high intensity intervals. read more

I am from Arizona but was in town for the week and decided to join the class because my best friend raves about it. I absolutely loved it ! Instructors are high energy and encouraging! The people in the class were nice and welcoming to new comers! By the end of the class I was doing the worm on the ground from exhaustion but I loved pushing my body to its max. Fhitting Room is one of the best workouts in NYC. It's a full body workout, and combines both cardio with strength training. The instructors are amazing, especially Riley and Ben -- they're my favorite duo! They teach really challenging, fun, and encouraging classes, and they explain things really well! The instructors always push you to work hard, become stronger, and have fun while doing it. I love the emphasis placed on proper form at Fhitting Room. The instructors are always on the lookout for any corrections they can make to not only make the specific exercise more difficult, but also (and importantly) to prevent injury. The studio is nice and clean, and there's showers (although I've never used them so can't comment on them -- they do seem very clean though)! As someone who works out daily and has been to various classes/studios, I can honestly say that Fhitting Room is one of my favorite workout classes in the city! read more

LOVE Fhitting Room!!! It is truly such a good workout. I will day it definitely took a few classes to get the hang of it and become confident with form (especially kettle bell exercises!) but once you get it down it's great. Having two instructors is also very helpful. The instructors are also very nice, non judgmental, willing to help. Also, the front desk staff are great too. I have called and asked to change into a later or earlier class on the same day and they are so flexible unlike many other NYC studios who will penalize you for that!! I've tried basically every boutique studio in the city (from cycling to yoga to boxing) and Fhitting Room is the only one that I have never questioned being worth the $38 (unless you wait for one of their promos and get it for $30-35). You're never repeating the same workout twice, the instructors are beyond top notch, and you can notice the difference in about 3 weeks (going 2xs a week). highly recommend. I only wish they had better clothing options so I could buy some of their gear! read more

First of all, what a great business model. Classes cost as much as neighbor SLT, but they fit twice as many customers into one room. However, there are 2 instructors which helps make the class run quickly and smoothly. The instruction is too fast for my liking. Coming from CrossFit's RX classes, I'm used to a more complete demonstration of each exercise and a smaller group. With the two-instructor model, they move much faster, taking turns at quickly demoing each move and squeezing an hour-long circuit into 50 minutes. In Crossfit RX, the coach is on top of you, checking your form for maximum impact and minimum chance of injury. Here, there are a lot of us in the room, and while having 2 instructors helps, it's not always enough to catch all the mistakes. However it is a great workout and you will walk out sweaty and exhausted every time. It's fun and efficient and the facility is clean and well maintained. It's a bit of a factory and I'd call it "Crossfit RX Lite" for a higher price tag than Crossfit RX, but you do get your money's worth. I would not recommend Fhitting room for anyone with no workout experience. It's intense and they can't catch your mistakes quickly enough. But if you are somewhat in shape and have a basic understanding of fitness, you won't regret spending the $38. Also, right now it's two classes for the price of one for your first two classes. read more
