In less than a year and a half at Krav Maga Experts I transformed into a completely different, and much better, person. One of the things that I am most grateful for is that Tsahi believed in me well before I could believe in myself. And he has been there consistently to remind me that I am stronger than I think I am. I enjoyed the experience at first until I didn't... #1- Red flag happened before I even signed up. After the trial class, I was pretty much pressured into a membership by Amy. I only wanted class packs and she said they didn't provide that. That's not true. If you go online, the option is there. I even called the next day to see if I can switch, but Tsahi tried to convince me that a membership was more flexible since it allows you to try different types of classes. He said, "I am not trying to be money hungry, but I want you to get the full experience." If someone wants class packs, you should respect their decision because you don't know their financial situation. #2- No one tells you how to properly book a guest. I got two guest passes with my membership ($119 for 4 classes per month, minimum 2 months). The first time I wanted to bring a guest, I emailed and didn't get a reply. So I called, but they said that I didn't need to call and to just sign them up in person. The second time I wanted to bring another guest, they told me the class was full and that I had to sign them up beforehand online. However, there's no option for that on their site. They need to train the staff with the same information. My issue here was that the young man with the comb over haircut (Caucasian brunette in his 20s) told me that the gym's liability insurance only allows 3 new guests per class. How am I supposed to know that? It's not even in the contract that they make you sign. The owner Tsahi was there hanging out on the side and didn't even bother coming over to find a solution. It felt like retaliation because my membership was almost over, and they wouldn't budge on extending the guest pass for my guest. If they had helped, I would've considered extending my membership. #3- I like the variety of classes, but there are flaws here. You must go to the Brooklyn location to try the rest. One review in the "Not Recommended Reviews" below said this place lacks an actual curriculum/lesson plan, which is true. Every class is different, which I find inconsistent. In one class, an instructor will say, "Remember what I taught you in the last class and use it," but you probably didn't attend that class. Then in the next class, you might get an instructor that will repeat something you already learned, so you don't learn anything new that day. I will have to say I enjoyed that one BJJ class I took and the instructor named Elaine is super cool, but that's about it. You must be careful since the classes have students with different expertise levels. You might get paired with an advanced student who's too aggressive or you'll get partnered up with a beginner, but you don't want to be too rough with them. #4- Lastly, I didn't feel comfortable being questioned TWICE on why I was leaving. It's very pushy, intrusive and off-putting. Overall, I felt like the institution wasn't very approachable when it came to conflict resolution. This is one of my favorite places to train during my week's workouts. Of my 4-5 workouts per week, I try to get in 2 sessions per week to work on different skills, as not all classes are the same. My favorite classes include the Weapon's Defense Class with Tsahi, combatives class with Harrison, Krav Core Class with David, Harrison, or Elaine, and for ground work, BJJ with Kevin and the new Ground Combat with Marco on Friday at the UWS location (the last class I took and a great introduction to fighting on the ground with slight variances from BJJ). The more classes I take, the more comfortable I become with understanding how my body can react effectively, if a fight arises. I would highly recommend KME for anyone looking to deepen their practice in combat training while significantly improving body composition in the process. When I first stepped into Krav Maga Experts back in 2019 I didn't know what to expect. Krav Maga is an ever evolving Self Defense System, a no nonsense approach to protecting oneself and one's love ones. It's pragmatic, engaging, empowering, uncomplicated, FUN. It is a journey worth taking and from my personal experience paid dividends many times over. KME is a great place to learn. My classmates are supportive of my progress, enthusiastic about life, and most importantly GENTLE with my body. When you join KME you aren't just investing in learning Self Defense, you're investing in a community to grow in, to be a part of and belong too. I arrived to KME a complete stranger and I discovered people eventually began to leon on me for inspiration and support. I became a part of something bigger then myself. I am so blessed to be a part of it. It has led to personal growth and healing. Training wise the curriculum of KME incorporates alot of Striking and Mobility Work. Warm Up Drills are yoga and some calisthenics. Your body will get use to it. Classes are low to moderate level of physical assertion and intensity. There are advance classes. You are never punished for going at your own speed by the staff or fellow classmates. Your "No" is always respected. You are always respected. If you never done anything physical like Krav Maga before you are in good company. You will find a vast diverse group of people to train with from various ages, backgrounds, occupations and training experience. Whatever insecurity you might have there is someone similar to you in KME. Shemesh incorporates different disciplines in his studio for a flat membership price, he is generous with his program hiring Boxing and Muay Thai Instructors and BJJ Instructors to make his students well rounded in Combat. This shows me he is sincere and committed to making Self Defense affordable and equitable. A similar well rounded program in an MMA academy that includes Muay Thai and BJJ could cost upwards of 300 dollars a month. You can't beat the deal you are getting. Plus they have a kids or teens Self Defense program. KME has a gracious space. I know this from the amenities I'm getting. The KME Studio in the Upper West Side for example has three air conditioning units, a row machine, an aero bike, heavy bags, a squat rack complete with barbell and several olympic quality plates as well as numerous kettlebells and free weights. If you like to train in comfort rather then misery the three AC units helps alot during the 90 degree New York Summers. If you are into showers they got showers too. If you have bread to spend they have private lockers for you to store your belongings and gear rental. My gripe about KME there isnt another studio that can accommodate the number of students. Mat space is limited to maintain a safe environment so register for classes ahead of time. No exceptio from personal experience. Shemesh's classes always fill up. The Brooklyn Studio has brick walls so you have to be extra cautious when training. Being a Brooklyn native I can tell you most Brooklynites dont care we ball like that. But you know what does care? Your bones. IN SUMMARY: For the four years and odd months I have been there I do not regret a single penny spend from my rent money towards KME. From all the special workshops they run to the knowledge of their seasoned Instructors I have learned to confidently protect myself and others without resorting to brute violence. From personal experience the stuff works and the techniques I used to defend myself and someone else are lessons you learn in your first week. If you read this far in the review just sign up already. Sign your momma up too. The greatest takeaway I gotten from my journey is this. KME taught me that the strongest people aren't those who display strength in front of others, but those who win battles others know nothing about. That is Strength. I used to go to this gym some years ago until I had to relocate for work and had to reluctantly give up my membership. Fortunately, an opportunity arose and I'm back in nyc to work and I was so excited to enrol again. I honestly am not here to earn a blackbelt but I truly want to learn how to defend myself since this city is truly dangerous. Before coming back to this gym I've been relying on videos on YouTube and my Nintendo switch to familiarize myself again with self Defense. I did taekwondo in college and although I kept my flexibility over the years, I know I'm more likely to use my track and field skills when confronted by danger because to me tkd is really just an exhibition sport. Now that I'm older I don't care much for belts but rather the quality of what I learn and the practicality of it. This is the gym for me. I love the camaraderie of the people here. Everyone is so inclusive, accommodating and helpful . Even if it's been years since I've been in such a class, i felt at ease almost immediately. When I got injured on my first day because I was still adjusting, I corresponded with them via email on how I can still train with my injury. They were very kind and even asked if I wanted to freeze my membership because of the genuine concern of my injury. But I didn't want that. I wanted to still train because I was worried if I stopped I will be back to square one. So they told me to just inform the trainer and that's what I did! The trainer let me train with them and I mostly did shadow boxing for a while until I felt better. So yeah I totally recommend this gym. You will get the real worth of your money because at the end of every training you feel stronger and confident. I don't live close to it so I have to make an extra effort to attend the workouts but like I said it's totally worth it! read more

I noticed someone who wasn't participating filming a significant portion of the class without obtaining consent from those being filmed. This made me feel uncomfortable and unsure of my privacy expectations while attending classes. While I understand the gym may use photographs for promotional purposes, it would be beneficial to have a clear policy regarding video recording of members. It would be helpful if members were informed of this policy before signing up and if there's a way to opt-out of being filmed in class. read more

Transformational. Tsahi is the kind of teacher that pulls from you your best. Every teacher manages to balance the grit and endurance necessary to perform with a warmth that lets you know they want you to succeed. Classmates too are a very welcoming bunch. I absolutely love Krav Maga Experts and my involvement with the studio has been one of the great empowering decisions of my life! A few years ago in my own neighborhood, I saw a young lady being a victim of an anti-Semitic verbal and physical attack, when I interceded on her behalf, I had a gun pulled on me. For many years after I made my life very small and I was filled with a lot of fear. Krav Maga is something I had an interest in for quite some time, but I was always very intimidated by the notion of it and I told myself it was probably not something for me, I saw myself as a middle-aged non-athlete. From the first time I walked through the door at Krav Maga experts, I was made to feel welcomed, I was instructed in a caring and compassionate way that allowed me to gradually test my strength as my skills increased. Every single class and one on one lesson I've ever had there, I've always walked out feeling stronger and having more agency over my life. After my first four months on the mat, I was able to return to acting on stage for the first time in 10 years, the strength and confidence I'm able to bring in all areas of my life have increased tenfold since I first walked through that door. I convinced my fiancé to join as well, and she has gone from having to use a walker all the time to being a fierce bad ass warrior woman. Been going to KME for about a month and a half, and have loved it! I generally attend the morning classes, Fit-2-Fight, and Women's Krav. I have taken lessons with Carlos, Tsahi, and Rav. All three are amazing. I never took Krav - or any martial art class - before this summer and was really nervous going in. However, the instructors really made an effort to get to know me and I have felt myself improve significantly with time. Of course, you will feel awkward your first class, but make sure to be forgiving with yourself. Most classes consist of partnering up to practice different techniques. Each class usually focuses on a specific core lesson, like ground fighting, agility, punches, kicking, etc. The women's class does this from the perspective of defending yourself from certain attacks. The Fit-2-Fight class is more of a conditioning class - lots of squats, push-ups, and sit-ups! Prepare to be sore the next day! If you are a new student, they have a special on Groupon. That's how I got started. But even after I used my Groupon for $78 for my first month, I went ahead and paid full price for another month because I was having so much fun! One heads-up is that minor bumps and scrapes will probably happen. Those who are worried may want to invest in gloves, knee pads, and/or other protective gear. I bought gloves halfway through the summer. The front desk sells a full set of gear for $99, but you can also just buy MME gear from Amazon. read more

I had previously studied Krav Maga for about three years at another studio in the city. I then got married, had a kid, and put my KM studies on hold for a few years. I recently restarted my KM training by testing out classes at a few different studios in the city. To be honest, they all provided a good workout and great self-defense training. However, IKM New York is by far my favorite place to train. Tsahi and Carlos are both nice guys and great instructors. They both create a safe and friendly environment. But make no mistake about it - the workouts are tough! KM will get you in great shape. Every time I've attended a class I learned a new technique or improved on a technique I've previously learned. The classes attract a wide demographic range. I've seen teenagers there and guys who appear to be about sixty. There are students who appear to be in amazing physical shape and students who are not in the best of shape. Classes tend to be about 30% women. Basically, there is room for all types at these classes and nobody should be intimidated about attending one. Trust me, KM will build your self-confidence! read more

Krav Maga Experts has a wonderful kids program- I enrolled my son here years ago and he absolutely loves it and is very committed. I attribute that not only to his individual taste but also to this particular program. I went in to Krav Maga, and this class in particular, with a high level of interest and low expectations and was blown away by the great experience facilitated by our instructor, Tsahi. Besides being knowledgeable, Tsahi is friendly, funny, and passionate about what he does...and beyond that, he pushes you, making sure you get the most from the class. In addition, the other students at IKM New York were friendly and supportive without going easy, helping to create a positive and challenging atmosphere. As of now, I've been with the studio a bit over a year, joining a couple months before they moved to the new space on 100th street and while classes were good before they're amazing now, providing a wider variety of offerings, more class times and a better space. I had tried a trial session at this studio few month ago since my husband used to work out here. The class was fun and interesting but the cleanliness of the studio was so bad and the most important thing is I couldn't stand the stinky smells there. After the class, the front desk lady from North Carolina (I don't remember her name), she stopped me to give her a feedback on the class while talking to another customer. I and my husband were standing there to wait for her to finish for 15minutes. (It's a tiny studio so there are no seats around the front desk area) She finally finished with the customer and started her aggressive and pushy sales pitches which made me and my husband very uncomfortable and it also included too personal questions. I gave her a good feedback on the class and said politely that I will visit next time if I am still interested in doing it multiple times but she didn't let us go. She kept asking me why I did not want to join Right Now. The conversation with her was pointless. I and my husband were roped into her 15 minute spiel. As a consequence of this, my husband also cancelled the membership here. It was one of the worst customer services that I have ever received. read more

I have never written a review on yelp and I debated for a while before writing this one, but here goes. First of all, I want to say that I have never taken a class at this studio so for all I know, the classes/instructors might be excellent. In fact, I was tempted to check out the studio for my daughter based on the positive reviews here. On Saturday, I went to go ask about whether my 5 year-old could take a class (kids classes seemed to be grouped from 6-8 and 9-12 but someone told me it was worth checking). Upon my arrival, I saw a woman whose child was clearly about to take a class (the girl was wearing a helmet and knee pads) being berated by the lady at the front desk. I don't know how long the altercation had been going on, but I do know that the front desk employee was extremely rude and patronizing and was actually going off on this woman right in front of her child. She kept telling the woman to take deep breaths and that she didn't like her attitude and that "In fact, customers are not always right." Again, I have no idea what happened to cause the conflict, but what I saw did not leave a good taste in my mouth. On top of that, the lady briefly turned her attention to me and said (also rudely), "Can I help you with something?" and when I said I would wait, she said "take a seat, okay? Just take a seat." I saw no seats. I quickly asked my question and left. I was put off to the point where I don't think I will be back, which is a bummer as I live close-by. read more

If you have no experience with martial art classes, there are a million ways it can go wrong: impersonal teaching, shady business practices and "bro" behavior. Let me say that NONE of these are a problem at Krav Maga Experts. Beginning with my trial class, to this day, there have been no pointless uniform fees or hidden costs. Any gear you buy you need - it's just that simple. Head instructor and founder, Tsahi (actual IDF veteran, much respect), pours his heart and soul into KME and his philosophy permeates throughout. All of the instructors have years of experience and a vast knowledge base without any of the arrogance attached. They always take the time to explain the practicality of a particular move and answer any questions you may have. This consideration and respect goes for the students, as well. There are no inflated egos or aggressive attitudes, you will be made to feel at home the moment you walk in the door. Honestly, I could go on forever about the impeccable character of KME and the actual FUN training. Yes, FUN! In the end, you have to actually enjoy a class to attend it. KME gives you everything in one INEXPENSIVE package: real Krav Maga training, a great workout and an enjoyable experience. Give it a chance; you will not regret it. P.S. Unfortunately I have to give this business a negative review.. I showed up @7:32 , 2 minutes late to my first class, my first time in this business and I was greeted with rude comments and unprofessional-ism by the woman that works behind the desk. She later claimed she was the manager after being disrespectful and making condescending comments as she runs the world. I wanted to join my first class but was rejected because I came in 2 minutes late and missed the warm up. I was not notified by anyone in email or a phone call to arrive 15 mins prior before for a warm. I was also penalized for using up the class and was not being credited. Is this how you manage a business and want the customers to come back? This is a gym, a lot of people go and you wont miss on any $. Awful business management skills..! 12/17/12 Update/ response to recent post from "Alexander": i have serious doubts about the veracity of this alleged review. Not only is the attendance policy highly visible on the website, but the very first time I signed up I received a confirmation email stressing the importance of showing up on time (aka 15 mins ahead of time) aaand I also got a call stressing the saaame information. There are reasons for this. 1) important you are prepared and warm up etc w the group- otherwise you risk injury 2) rude and annoying to others when you are late bc you fall behind and we all suffer for it 3) basic respect 4) everything "Nate" said in his review. Re: Customer service: In all the times I've ever been here (5+ months) I have never been treated with anything but complete respect from all staff ( i've met them all). I know for a fact that uninvited disrespect from staff towards a student would absolutely not be tolerated here so if it happened the way that gentleman says, it was an anomaly. If someone is firm with you here, my money is on the fact that you show up late, are denied entry, and then cop an attitude of entitlement and arrogance and get pushy when you don't get your way; insolence doesn't always yield positive outcomes. These are serious, intelligent, and fair people; there's no way they got short with you unless you pushed them (and then you deserve what you get as far as I'm concerned). None of what was said in that review has any consistency with the reality of the months of experience I have had with IKM. For anyone interested- go check it out for yourself, you'll know in the first 30 seconds that this alleged experience from the previous reviewer is not the norm. Showing up late is unacceptable in any serious establishment; they don't owe you anything, get serious and take responsibility; if unforeseen circumstances cause you a delay call ahead to see what's up or accept your fate humbly and come back another day. I suppose the perception of personal injury here is not entirely the fault of the reviewer: our culture caters to egocentrism and the thinking that all time is "me time" and therefore deadlines are in fact, flexible and fluid, promoting excuse making and scape-goating when infractions occur. You have been set up for failure by these fallacies. In the real world, you can't just stroll in whenever you want and get whatever you want; sometimes it results in things like termination, expulsion, or denial of entry to a private institution. You have learned an important lesson, and now you will be a better human for it. yay! My only regret about IKM is that I don't have any kids, because if I did I'd enroll them too. And if they showed up late for class, I'd ground them. PS. This isn't a "gym". It's a professional training academy. They are both highly effective and supportive instructors. There are many different classes and schedules to choose from. The classes are diverse and always a reasonable size, which helps each student to feel comfortable asking questions and receiving personalized guidance. Each class is well structured and balanced, all of the students I've interacted with have been super cool to work with. It is impossible to miss the fact that both instructors are extremely skilled on many different levels but they are both so approachable and personable- definitely not the types to single anyone out uncomfortably or harass students (but they WILL make you work!!). Don't freak out about being a girl or not being super fit or any of the other hang ups that come to mind- these guys are totally disarming and effective. You will learn, you will be glad you went, and you will come back for more. My friend and I love the women's class and highly recommend you stay for the conditioning class- if you don't fall out, you will feel great after!! The guys I've spoken to here all seem to love their experiences too. This has been a great 2 month intro to Krav Maga- couldn't ask for a better experience. IKM Krav Maga New York is the best Krav Maga studio in the city. The classes are appropriate for all skill levels, from beginner to expert. Most of the classes tend to blend skills from each level of training, which means that you're always learning something new. This makes classes not only engaging, but challenging as well. The classes are generally between ten to twenty-five students with one, two or three instructors depending on the mix of levels and size of the class and you will definitely see your skills improving from week to week because of this. Speaking of the instructors, they are at the tops of their field. Each instructor at IKM has a very unique blend of expertise and training that work together to give each student the best possible instruction. They are all highly skilled, very approachable and have a talent for adjusting their teaching techniques to fit each individual's learning style. Last year when she was 13, my daughter took a series of lessons with Tsahi. She learned a lot in just a few months, and he kept the sessions challenging yet fun. He stresses the importance of physical conditioning, and always had her do a thorough workout before starting the training. She ended up being in excellent shape! Tsahi is very warm and has a great way with kids. Now they've moved to to a beautiful, large space, and my daughter is looking forward to taking more classes with him -- I may sign up for them myself. read more
