In my house we have a treadmill, free weights, exercise balls and all sorts of other things to help…read moreyou stay in shape. The problem is I'm kind of lazy when left up to my own devices. Being lazy hasn't hindered me in the past, but recently I've upset my metabolism with all the eating out and drinking. (I think some of you may feel my pain?) So, I've been watching this group of people run up and down the hill by my house, then do push-ups, squats, bear crawls, and a million other exercises under the direction of one man. After a while of watching I made up my mind to head down the hill and see what all this movement was about. Turns out Trainer Scott operates a boot camp 5 days a week at Wash Park (at Downing and Ohio). Monday through Thursday at 7 pm and Saturday mornings at 10 am. You can go to all 5 of these classes for $75 a month. It's almost like he doesn't give you a reason to not sign up. So I did. The first hour-long class I thought I was going to die. I almost threw up 3 times and I almost passed out 4. I know, I know. You are probably thinking why did I go back? Well, I may be exaggerating about what I felt, but that's because this workout seriously kicked my ass. Like, I could barely roll out of bed the next day because all my muscles were so very sore. I am really enjoying the classes though. Scott has a way of making time fly while making you sweat your guts out. And each time I feel myself getting a little stronger. And that is a very fantastic feeling. Plus, I've been going for about 3 weeks now and I still feel the soreness from working my muscles so hard and I think my belt is getting loser even.

It has been over three years since I started going to Scott's gym. In that time, I have attended…read morehis personal training, group training, and boot camp classes. All these class styles offer many benefits; I have personally seen improvements in strength, endurance, and agility, but in all my time at the gym, the improvement I am most proud of is a change in attitude. Four years ago, I would have never thought I would enjoy working out consistently, let alone join a group training class. At that time, I was occasionally going to a normal gym and sticking to basic exercises thinking that was enough to offset the sedentary lifestyle of a person working in the corporate world. A good friend convinced me to attend Scott's boot camp one day and that was the day I realized that not only was I not pushing myself hard enough, but also I had been underestimating the value of working out and the benefits it could bring to my life. The first day was tough and it made me realize just how out of shape I really was. Luckily, I found that the class was in itself the best support system. You meet all sorts of different people who all want to enjoy the workout and lead healthy lives. The positive atmosphere I felt starting that first day is one of the reasons I decided to stick around and luckily, with five boot camp classes offered each week, going after work is not a problem. Through many push-ups, pull-ups, planks, towel drags, and burpees I have achieved more than I ever thought possible. I have made many friends at the gym who motivate me and challenge me, especially Scott, who has been with me every step of the way encouraging me through mental and physical plateaus. Now, I see these classes as an essential part of my day and even look forward to the "eight-count body builder" birthday challenge (something you have to be there to enjoy). I highly recommend going to the boot camp classes. It will change your life.

I've trained in the US and in Canada, and Robyn has them all beat. To start, she sat and talked with me about my goals and my injuries, and I could tell from the beginning that she had a deep understanding of what I wanted to get out of our sessions. After an initial assessment, the training began, and she consistently pushed me outside my comfort zone but within my ability range. Anyone who deals with injuries knows that pushing too far too fast only results in damage and more time recuperating, and Robyn helped me find that perfect balance. Not once during our sessions did I find myself regretting pushing so hard, and I knew that she had her eye on my form, making sure that I did everything perfectly. She is a professional and takes her work seriously, and it shows. Not only did she work with me on a weekly basis, but she provided a written description of the exercises we had completed and how I should continue with them in our "off" time. If you've ever worked with another trainer, you'll know that is not standard! Long story short, I began struggling on V1s and finished, 8 sessions later, projecting on V6s with no sign of injury. Every time I am back in Golden, I make a point of coming back to the gym just to see Robyn. A great trainer, a great athlete, and a new friend.

About a year and a half ago, after having three children followed by nearly two years of pandemic…read moreliving, I knew that I needed to change up my fitness and nutrition habits. After many, many search sessions, I kept coming back to Body by Emilee and finally took the plunge to set up my initial consultation. And now, I'd probably describe myself as a superfan of Emilee's. From the get-go, Emilee was really approachable, kind, and very easy to work with. We started with nutrition sessions, and while I was definitely not eating the most healthy diet, I never felt bad talking about my habits. Emilee's approach is a "sure and steady" way of looking at things. Instead of something drastic we were able to look at my habits and make small, consistent changes over the course of the past year that has served me really well. Plus, nothing is off-limits. Emilee believes in creating a sustainable lifestyle of nutrition and exercise. And I'm more of a "moderation in everything" kinda gal, so I couldn't handle someone telling me there'd be no more, oh, I don't know, fried chicken or champagne or cake. From there, I was also able to add personal strength training with Emilee two days a week. While the sessions are never easy, Emilee is always very mindful about how hard we are working and adjusting my weights or my exercises to have maximum impact on my goals. And working out with her is honestly just a ton of fun. Beyond the excellent coaching aspect, Emilee has built a solid community of women around her, both the folks she coaches as well as just the people she knows in the world. She hosts regular events for everyone who trains with her that span a wide variety of topics, everything from a session on learning to add meditation into your routine to a spin class. Every time I attend one of the events, I marvel at how much I genuinely like everyone that is there. For me, a number on the scale wasn't (and isn't) my ultimate goal, but I have lost nearly 30 pounds over the past year, and a half (all the Covid weight and most of the baby weight), but best of all is how strong and healthy I feel. My body feels really good, and I feel really good about my habits these days. Finding Body by Emilee was like finding a light at the end of the tunnel, and my sessions with her have been such a bright light in each of my weeks.

Spending time to talk about tailwinds and how to make small changes created a lot of change quickly for me. She checks in with you and creates a holistic plan catered to your needs. I can't recommend her enough!  I will continue to leverage her further as coach in the future, as her method is aligned to what works for me!

Ty created customized workouts (and continues to do so) that are tailored specifically to me and my goals. He starts out with a consultation to go over your BMI, macros, etc to ensure he knows how to make a customized plan thats right for you. I came to him with specific goals and he helped me reach them successfully and feel confident in my workouts and my form. Im tall, so "one stance doesn't fit all" and he taught me that which immensely improved my workouts and my low back and knee pain. Through COVID, Ty navigated the rules and regulations perfectly - helping me virtually stay on top of my fitness and also making sure my mental health through lockdown wasn't on the decline. Fitness is a health change and that touches all parts of health, which Ty recognizes and works with you on. When I've needed to take breaks or my hip flairs up - Ty helped to customize our workouts and work physical therapy into our session. I have recommended Ty to all my friends and peers, not only is he an incredible trainer but an all around incredible person who not only helped me with my fitness goals but also settling into a new state!
