In my house we have a treadmill, free weights, exercise balls and all sorts of other things to help you stay in shape. The problem is I'm kind of lazy when left up to my own devices. Being lazy hasn't hindered me in the past, but recently I've upset my metabolism with all the eating out and drinking. (I think some of you may feel my pain?) So, I've been watching this group of people run up and down the hill by my house, then do push-ups, squats, bear crawls, and a million other exercises under the direction of one man. After a while of watching I made up my mind to head down the hill and see what all this movement was about. Turns out Trainer Scott operates a boot camp 5 days a week at Wash Park (at Downing and Ohio). Monday through Thursday at 7 pm and Saturday mornings at 10 am. You can go to all 5 of these classes for $75 a month. It's almost like he doesn't give you a reason to not sign up. So I did. The first hour-long class I thought I was going to die. I almost threw up 3 times and I almost passed out 4. I know, I know. You are probably thinking why did I go back? Well, I may be exaggerating about what I felt, but that's because this workout seriously kicked my ass. Like, I could barely roll out of bed the next day because all my muscles were so very sore. I am really enjoying the classes though. Scott has a way of making time fly while making you sweat your guts out. And each time I feel myself getting a little stronger. And that is a very fantastic feeling. Plus, I've been going for about 3 weeks now and I still feel the soreness from working my muscles so hard and I think my belt is getting loser even. read more

All these class styles offer many benefits; I have personally seen improvements in strength, endurance, and agility, but in all my time at the gym, the improvement I am most proud of is a change in attitude. Four years ago, I would have never thought I would enjoy working out consistently, let alone join a group training class. Started off great! Scott seemed like a good trainer, even if all he talked about was himself. Constantly. He has no problem reminding you that he is stronger in every way and is the best at everything. We switched from private training to small groups and it just went downhill from there. A client should never have to constantly ask "what's next" while his trainer is texting and not paying attention. We ultimately left him because he is massively self-absorbed and the workout experience wasn't satisfactory any longer. We want a trainer that knows his business (physiology, nutrition, etc) and actually has a plan for his clients. read more

I went for a one day trial before deciding if this was the right place for me. Most places I've found will give you a free class some even give a free week or two but not here. Good news is that you can pay for one class with no commitment. For whatever reason my GPS brought me to the wrong address using the directions feature from yelp so I initially went to the wrong location, super annoying but not the trainers fault. When I arrived there wasn't anyone at the front desk but I saw folks standing around so I figured I was in the right place. I saw the trainer shortly after and introduced myself. The warm up was outside which I really didn't like. It wasn't remotely comfortable and didn't seem safe, I even got a cut on one of my hands. The rest of the class was inside. It was effective but certainly not the style I prefer. I can see where some reviewers have said that trainer Scott seems cocky. I think he was trying to be helpful but the tone was almost like he was talking down to me. I made sure to tell him that this wasn't my first time doing boot camp, just my first time with him. For the price you'll get a great workout but I've decided to go another route, 11 pounds down and counting. read more

I purchased a Groupon which brought me to Trainer Scott, I think it was $59 for a month. Scott is great, he's really enthusiastic and he knows how to empower and motivate people to work out as hard as they can. The classes are pretty small around 20 people and they are INTENSE, but in a good way where you want to go back. Each day is different and you can go at your own pace. I'm not an avid gym goer and I'm not really into fitness but there would be days where I would wonder where the heck the time went because the classes go by so fast (in a good way). This is a review of Scott's personal training sessions. I tried one of Scott's boot camps a couple years ago through ClassPass. I remember thinking it was a good workout, but I don't remember much about Scott or his training methods for the group. Recently I decided to sign up for a personal trainer to help me prepare for my first triathlon. Foolishly, instead of paying for 1 session to see how it'd go, I signed up for 50 sessions with Scott. Unfortunately, I ended up being very disappointed and requested a refund for the unused sessions after only 6 workouts. I've had personal trainers in the past - and they made it clear their mission was to help me achieve my fitness goals in a productive, healthy, safe way. I expected Scott would be the same. While the workouts were physically challenging, the experience with Scott as my "trainer" was entirely negative. First, the sessions were not tailored to me or my goals. There was no baseline test or conversation to understand my level of strength or areas of weakness. Previous trainers took the time to get to know these things and structured each session so they had a specific purpose. Scott didn't focus the sessions around my needs. I'd come in early to warm up and noticed his group session seemed to finish the same way my session finished (indicating the workouts were the same). The second frustration I had was Scott's lack of communication around my sessions. Past trainers would talk me through everything. If my form started to slip, they'd correct it, explaining what was wrong, why, and how to adjust. If I struggled to finish a set, they'd push me to keep going, cheering me on and celebrating each accomplishment with me. There was a clear attention to detail that made me feel like I had their undivided attention and wouldn't suffer an injury. Scott was nothing like this. His guidance for each exercise was rarely anything more than, "Here's what to do, now do [50] reps". I didn't feel like he was concentrating on me as I went through each exercise. Sometimes he'd check his phone, sometimes he'd watch tv, but usually he'd be talking about things completely unrelated to my workout. Several times I would stop, knowing I had poor form, and he wouldn't notice - instead he'd ask if I was done. He didn't offer corrective advice or guidance unless I specifically asked. There was very little encouragement or motivation. His behavior annoyed me and made me nervous about getting injured. The third, and worst part, in my opinion, were the things he DID talk about during the sessions. He either wanted to talk about himself (boasting about what a great athlete he was) or worse, would share inappropriate stories about women or people from his past. The things he talked about made me very uncomfortable and made it difficult for me to focus on my form, counting reps, breathing, etc. His one-sided conversation was neither welcome nor professional. After the first 1-2 sessions like this, I tried controlling the conversation by asking nonstop questions about things like proper form, stretching, breathing, nutrition, etc. This sometimes worked, but I realized I was gaining no value from his "training" if my focus was on "distracting" him with my workout. And after listening to his stories, I didn't want him to come near me or touch me, and I realized I couldn't continue for another 44 sessions. Having a personal trainer is a big investment and it's important to find someone you can trust. I'm grateful Scott refunded me the balance for the unused sessions. That money will be much better spent elsewhere. If you're looking for an inexpensive trainer and don't mind crude stories and humor, and don't care if you have his full attention, then this is a cheap option that could work for you. If you are looking for a knowledgeable, professional trainer who will focus on your fitness needs, I'd recommend coughing up more dough and going to someone else. The 2 stars are for the fact that the actual workout (physical activity) was good - better than sitting on the couch - and the cost is much lower than other personal trainers in the Denver area (which I realize is often a deciding factor for people). But I'd won't go back to this guy, nor would I recommend him. read more

I've been to many gyms and fitness classes in Denver and I finally found one that I love! Scott's classes are fun, social and a great workout. He's encouraging, funny (don't tell him I said this) and knows his stuff. All fitness levels are welcome and you go at your own pace. You get out what you put in - no matter how tired or pumped you're feeling that day. If you're the type of person that gets bored at the gym and needs motivation, this is the place to go. When I came to Scott's class, I was really nervous because I hadn't worked out in a long time. When I say I hadn't worked out in a long time, I mean I completely lost my motivation months before I moved to Denver. I had been eating out twice as much and drinking twice as much due to a slew of good-bye lunches and dinners. I knew that when I got to Denver, I needed to find a boot camp to get my butt in gear. Scott's looked just right and once a Groupon came along, I decided to just bite the bullet and do it. I'm so glad that I did. His classes are intense but you feel great after and definitely want to come back. Everyone is really nice and supportive of each other and he constantly tells you to just do your best and not get down on yourself for feeling if you get tired. In addition, it's reasonably priced. I feel like boot camps usually cost an arm and a leg and you HAVE to come on the designated days. I went to Scott after searching for a new personal trainer. I work and travel allot so was looking for someone who can work with my schedule and had the knowledge and attitude to drive me towards my goals. ... a couple of months later... Scott is a great guy. He makes your workout fun, ensures they you are blending multiple muscle groups in a single exercise and he is kicking my butt (in a good and safe way). He also goes the extra mile.. checking up if I am sore, working with me on my schedule and hounding me to get to the gym. Exactly what I need. However, there is more.. I told you I went to him for personal training. i have never done group classes because I am intimidated by the bootcamp aspect and felt that I would never get the personal attention (and workout) in a group setting. Scott proved me wrong on this. Now, I attend group fitness (small group setting where Scott manages to combine group exercises with personal workout for you.. I do this a couple of times a week and also maintain my personal training once a week. This approach worked for me both I am starting to see my body change and the combination is friendly on the pocket book. Now, still have not attended the bootcamp led by Scott.. maybe one day! I would give this 0 stars. This was the worst non boot camp class ever. I went for a class and was told we aren't doing boot camp today and to go stand over there in a dark, freezing cold, dirty gym and do 100 reps of weights. Never a hello, what's your name, any injuries, etc. Pretty much get out of my face and lift weights. Hugest D Bag and totally disrespectful nearly shoving me out the door when I told him it wasn't for me. It's called respect dude, especially towards a lady. Such a waste of my time. read more

I've done boot camps, personal training, and group training with Scott. I must say my favorite is probably the boot camps because I enjoy the intensity (and Scott and I share a love of horrible pop 80's tunes) but they're all great! I'm a teacher so my days are long and sometimes make it so I can't get in to workout. However, Scott always texts me when he hasn't seen me for a few days, which is awesome for someone who needs that accountability. Also he laughs at my awful jokes (and I his) so that's nice- plus his dog is pretty neat too! read more

I needed to whip my AR a$$ back into good ole southern a$$ kickin' shape & Scott got me back to as my grandmother used to say "you feel like a brick wall my dear". I started Scott's Denver Boot Camp back in December 2012 and it has been nothing but progress ever since. I was a little nervous when I first made the commitment to change the way I was taking care of my body and mind, but Scott was a helping hand since the word "GO." I remember my first Boot Camp, where all the blood rushed to my face and I started seeing stars, and I decided leaning against the wall was going to be the best decision I made all day. Later on, Scott texted me and asked how I was doing. I knew from that point on that I wanted to work out with someone who cared, but was still going to push me. The classes were a lot of fun with the people and the change in routine every time. Scott is great at mixing together cardio, strength training, endurance, you name it. I've been attending weight lifting classes and gym programs for over 15 years. I found the instructor is more interested in telling jokes and calling out what song is playing rather than walking around correcting the students form. I saw various students swinging around weights and what's worst is his mentality that heavier weights is better than proper form. Avoid this class! read more

I had always heard great things about Scott's Denver Bootcamp, so when I saw a groupon, I quickly bought it. I have been to a handful of classes so far and they have been good. Scott has a great sense of humor, which makes the hour go by fast. He is always incorporating new exercises and each class is different. I also like that he watches my form and lets me know if it is incorrect. Sometimes the classes are a bit large, but I think that has a lot to do with the groupon. Held outdoors at Wash Park (or Scott's gym), this boot camp is more than an aerobics class. The varied exercises and small group size keep you motivated. At first I was concerned about keeping up in such a small group setting because I hadn't been exercising regularly. I needn't have worried!
