I'm so thankful I found FIT Brea! Over the past several years that I've lived in the area, I've been a part of various gyms (both chain and boutique) nearby. Having now experienced FIT Brea, I'm definitely kicking myself for not trying this gym out sooner. I've only done their group fitness classes so far, which range from 8-12ish people in size, and I'm looking forward to trying out the personal training sessions when my schedule opens up! Here are a few ways that make FIT Brea a standout: COACHING: The coaches here are the whole package! 1. They all have stellar credentials, with many of them holding advance degrees and multiple certifications. In short, they know their stuff. 2. At the risk of sounding facetious, I just want to make the point that the FIT Brea coaches actually coach. It might sound like a no-brainer, but it hasn't always been my experience that coaches do much more beyond demo-ing the moves and saying "good job" or "keep going" every few minutes, especially in a group class setting. Here, the coaches constantly move throughout the room to offer individualized pointers on form, differentiated movements depending on individual strength and mobility, alternative movements for injuries, and encouragement and motivation to keep pushing so I can get better and better. 3. They are all super patient, encouraging, and welcoming! PROGRAMMING: The programming for the group classes are thoughtfully and methodically designed. From what I can tell so far, the workouts are structured in mesocycles with a progressive overload pattern. This is important because if we do the same thing over and over, our bodies will adapt and we will not make appreciable gains over time. With progressive overload, our bodies are constantly challenged so that we can keep increasing strength and improving hypertrophy. COMMUNITY: The FIT Brea community is so nice and helpful. I felt welcomed by the coaches and the other patrons from day one. Several people who recognized that I was new introduced themselves and helped me find and set up various equipment. Others even put my plates and dumbbells back during transitions. Just last week, the whole class broke out into spontaneous applause and cheer when I pushed out that last rep of bench press, haha! The mutually encouraging environment really underpins the whole vibe and experience here. It's a special thing. MANAGEMENT: One of the things that I didn't realize would make a difference in my overall gym experience is having direct access to management/owner. In my past gym experiences, the questions/concerns I had would typically have to go up a chain of command before I got a response. Since FIT Brea is owner-operated, the patrons can directly talk to Andrew, the owner, who is so nice and provides exceptional customer service. SPACE/EQUIPMEMENT: It's spacious, well-maintained, clean, and an overall pleasant environment to train in. CLASS OFFERINGS: I'm a busy mom who works full-time hours plus daily commute. I'm thankful that classes are offered as early as 5am and as late as 6:30pm so that I can get my training time in! If you are looking for a gym where you can optimize and maximize your fitness goals (whatever they are), look no further because FIT Brea is it! I found FIT Brea when I was 7 months postpartum with my second kid. I had 2 C-sections in under 3 years and was not feeling awesome about my body. I was ready to start feeling like myself again, but sleep was (is) scarce. I almost put finding a gym off for a few more months until things "got easier," but I'm so glad I didn't. I really appreciated the free fitness assessment before starting with group training. It was a way to objectively see my baseline and identify my short and long term goals. I did not feel pressured at all to join when I went for the assessment, but I instantly felt comfortable and knew I was in the right place for me. Each of the coaches at FIT Brea has been hugely supportive and helpful, encouraging me to start slow and pay careful attention to form. In the 4 months that I've been a member, I've gone down a pants size and gotten noticeably stronger with more endurance. I've joined my fair share of local gyms over the years. I tend to jump in too quickly out of excitement, then get injured or sick, lose momentum and ultimately not return. At FIT Brea, there is a level of accountability without intimidation and I am slowly building a foundation for general health and strength, rather than setting myself up to burn out like I have in the past. I've been attending the classes at FIT Brea for about 2 months now and it is the best decision I've ever made. I was always hesitant on joining a gym because I felt like I didn't know what I was doing or what exercises I should be doing. Once I found FIT Brea I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. It's been exactly 6 months since I joined here! First, a bit about me. I'm a mom of one, with pretty much ZERO strength training experience. It's always been a dream of mine to learn how to strength train properly (with barbells and dumbbells), but I was always far too scared to try. In Oct 2022, I made the decision to finally find a gym and start training. Being a parent during the pandemic meant just "getting through each day," until I no longer had any goals for myself and felt so socially isolated. I knew I wanted a change. But it was so important to me to find a place that I could trust, that wasn't trying to fast talk me or see me as just a walking monthly membership. Joining FIT Brea has been one of the best decisions I've ever made for myself. I started with personal training (there are great group classes too) and without exception, every trainer here has been amazing. Each one is so warm, kind, caring, and knowledgeable- always so encouraging. I can't say enough about each one. Nick has this amazing laid back vibe that makes sessions so fun. Phil's calm and patient, encouraging nature has been a huge part of my success here (he's taught me much of what I know now). And owner/boss Andrew has this way of both pushing you further than you think you could go, and making you feel so special (whether you've been a member for a day or ten years). I still have other trainers to work with, but they seem so cool as well, and will update my review when I do! So, if you read this, and it resonates with you, know that the first step is the hardest- but you can do it. Don't let excuses get in the way- you're never too old, never too out of shape. Amazing gym! I've never seen a set up like this with progressive overload workouts in group sessions. I gained more muscle in 3 months than I did with a personal trainer because of the methodically planned workouts and ability to track weights in the app. The trainers do a great job explaining the exercises and demonstrating proper form. This is an awesome fitness community! Before coming here I never even thought of wanting to be a "strong chick". I just wanted to work out and lose weight. I have definitely changed my mentality about what physical health look like after coming here. Being strong is awesome and lifting weights is fun! A lot of lifting is involved, but the great thing about this gym is that the program is very scalable! You have beginners (like when i first started) and really experienced heavy lifters. The cool thing about it is that everyone has their own pace and PLACE here. I joined FIT Brea in May 2018 with two main goals in mind: (1) gain strong muscles and (2) make a healthy lifestyle change. It's been over a year and a half, and FIT Brea has far exceeded my expectations! I signed up for the Women's Semi-Private. This group is fantastic! It is a smaller fitness group with a more personalized workout plan to meet individual needs. We meet twice a week, and there are both morning and evening classes to meet everyone's schedule. Included with this package is unlimited group classes. The group classes are just a slightly bit larger, and are offered 6 days a week. Giving everyone plenty of time to get that 3-5 days of workout in! What makes FIT Brea truly unique, and deserving of 5+ stars, is the people! This is not some generic chain gym. This is a FIT Community! We are a great group of like-minded individuals that are all striving to push each other to becoming better and stronger! Every trainer here is awesome, and gets to know you on a personal level. Even in the group classes, they assist with your personal goals in mind. Whether it is losing weight, gaining weight, injury recovery, maintain strength, etc. Since joining, I have lost weight, increased muscle mass, decreased body fat, increased overall strength, lowered my blood pressure, eliminated my sciatica pain, and gained positive mental strength!
