I must separate the technical expertise of Dr. Rothstein from the administrative and cultural environment of The Smile Place. The 5-Star Dentist: Dr. Rothstein is exceptionally talented and kind. I came to him needing complex work done on a failed permanent bridge after a high school trauma left me without my front teeth. This is a very vulnerable situation, and Dr. Rothstein showed genuine compassion and the highest level of skill, successfully recreating my smile where others could not. If you are looking for cosmetic dentistry or complex restorative work, he is, without question, a genius and one of the best. The 1-Star Staff and Culture: The reason I am compelled to write this is the pervasive atmosphere created by the rest of the staff, from the front desk to the hygienists. While under Dr. Rothstein's care, I overlooked numerous instances of textbook passive-aggressive comments and behaviors directed toward me. As a patient, you quickly learn that getting in to see the doctor, who is truly excellent, takes priority over the unpleasant--and unnecessary--staff drama. It was always clear the office lacked soft skills and professional empathy. The Shocking Dismissal: The relationship ended abruptly and disrespectfully. I had scheduled cleaning appointments for my daughters in May to ensure they were seen before an insurance transition. When my daughters had an unexpected, time-sensitive conflict, I emailed the office the morning of the appointments to apologize for the inconvenience and cancel, and I immediately offered to pay the full cost of the missed slots. (By the way they are both young adults) Two weeks later, I received a certified letter formally dismissing me as a patient from the entire practice. After putting up with years of unnecessary passive-aggressive tension from the office staff, the ultimate irony is being fired as a patient via certified mail because my daughters missed their cleaning appointments--an inconvenience I offered to fully rectify financially. Attempts to reason with the front office post-firing were met with being ghosted. Final Verdict: Dr. Rothstein's talent is 5/5. The patient experience, from the day-to-day interactions to the final, shockingly cold dismissal, is 1/5. If you need great, cosmetic work and are prepared to tolerate a hostile atmosphere and risk being arbitrarily dismissed over a scheduling error, go here. I'm happy to share that I have found that very dentist. I take good care of my teeth and typically go in for routine cleanings every six months and rarely have cavities. Normally I get ahead of things before they become an issue but with my big move and a pretty intense past 10 months or so, I had gone an entire year without a cleaning or exam. And then an old crown popped off when I was flossing, reminding me that I better get my ass to the dentist. And then I found Mel Mel Dental with what appeared to be a very sincere 5 star review, so I took a chance. In all my years of going to dentists, I find my experience here to be the best of all. I rarely if ever, have to wait. There's a family-like atmosphere amongst the staff that makes one feel immediately comfortable. If you look at their website, they give a bio on everyone from reception to hygienists to Dr. Suditu himself. So cool! I actually look forward to seeing the staff and Theresa, the dental assistant, is particularly great to talk to. She makes you feel immediately comfortable as if you're about to share a bottle of wine rather than get dental work done. Finally, a note on painless dentistry. Dr. Suditu is particularly careful to explain exactly what is going on from anesthesia (he expertly administers the shot so that you barely feel it) to the procedure itself. For a first visit we noticed this dentist office was more technically advanced than our old dentist with more modern equipment. We are taking off a star because Dr. Kay doesn't deal with the business side of things which can be a good thing because then he can only worry about the best treatment for your teeth instead of being distracted by the business side of things. We found out from the office manager is is one of several locations owned by two dentist brothers. The one star down is because they do not have a sliding scale for low income people and charge New York City Prices in Dutchess county. The insurance companies are able to negotiate a discounted price but if you need major work and are on a limited income and have trouble covering the deductible they don't negotiate on a sliding scale do to your income but rather refer you to care credit so you'll probably be dead before you pay off your dental care. With the volume of patients running through this place they could have a little more compassion for lower income people or even donating some dental time back to the community. I'm not very happy with the business side of things but will update on future visits as the work I need will take time that my last dentist couldn't get to because he was to busy.

This is just an update of my review for Monroe Dentist Office. So I grew up in Monroe, and as a kid…read moreI went to the dentist every 6 months for a cleaning, with Tara, who was pleasant, and knew how to take care of kids. Even got a cavity filled with Dr. Crohn with proper pain relief of the numbing cream. So at least 4 stars with that. Years later, I got a cavity filled by Dr. Allison Douglas. For pain relief, she only offered the novacaine shot, in which i refused. But it wasn't until I was crying that she stopped and offered the numbing cream. After she applied the numbing cream it was better. However after the appointment, I went home- tooth that got filled hurt for like a week. Also I wasn't given any information on side effects or directions. to boot I also had steak for dinner, and I normally love steak but the tooth hurt and made it hard to eat for a few days. Luckily it subsided after a week. Note 3 stars for that experience Fast forward a few years after that, It was my annual cleaning, Tara asked me about my wisdom teeth, and forgetting, I told her the wrong information, which were that my bottom ones were intact. How easy it is for a doctor to check records, especially if they don't remember or anything? Part of that appointment was xrays, which were taken. Now during the xray process, Tara was understanding on how the positions can be not natural, and tried to make me as comfortable as possible. Which helps. Even while doing the cleaning, she stopped for a second if I was a little sensitive or if my gums bled. Now, when the dentist Alison Douglas came in to check the xrays, she told me, oh you may need more fillings. Now I didn't say anything at that time, but If my last filling with her was a bad experience, and as long as I don't have teeth pain myself- I don't really want any dentist work done. Alison also failed to explain to me where on the xray, she sees I have cavities. She kept saying "Oh you know, You know" Obviously If I Am asking then No, I don't know. I am also a firm believer in that healthcare is both the doctor and the patient agreeing to a treatment plan that works for the patient. After that, It was the last straw and I wouldn't recommend this office at all. Maybe for the other dentist Dr. Crohn and My Hygentist Tara. But other than that- No because some need pain relief. I also no longer live in the area. Hope this office realizes that bad experiences can cause Trauma, and sometimes that can be no good for health in the long run, and I say that because I haven't been to the dentist since, and this was more than a few years ago now.

Gotta admit that removing tartar has been a little uncomfortable to me because it is like scraping the tooth, and I brush my teeth twice a day with no issues. But the way tara does it is very gentle. I have 3 stars because last visit, which was years ago, but the other dentist alison i believe filled my cavity without novacaine, and it wasn't until i was crying that she applied the numbing cream on my tooth, which i had to suggest. Didn't explain any side effects either, as for a week, i couldn't chew that much and my tooth that got filled hurt. Didn't even tell me to take advil or offer medicine for pain relief. After i got the cavity filled, at my last appointment, i did xrays, and they found a spot where they may have to fill a cavity, but it was a small one. They didn't even show me that xray, or ask if my tooth bothers me. For me, If a tooth bothers me then i am more likely to get it filled, not just because "I have to.." Consider what the patient wants as well as what may be needed on the doctor's end. I don't recommend coming here because of the dentists. The hygentists are fine, but the dentists seem to have some kind of agenda and not care what the patient wants. More so because of my truama, i may not ever go to a dentist again. If i find getting a cavity filled hurts, i need to be sedated or at least with a strong numbing agent.
