This place was so good! We were able to be seated right away which was good since it was pouring out. The mussels were our favorite. We loved the soup that came in the mussels

Food was amazing. Fish perfectly cooked. The people are super friendly. The fish chowder was very flavorful. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We were in town for the Canada Dry dragon boat festival and made reservations at Fishook because the menu was very intriguing - a marriage of Indian tradition and PNW seafood. We were greeted immediately and shown our table. It's a very small and cute place. Drink orders followed. We opted to try the house-made ginger'd mint & lime soda. We started with salmon pekoras followed by the biryani and the halibut daily Katch (as recommended by our server). The staff is very friendly. The sodas were awesome! Very refreshing. The pekoras were also fantastic. Flaky salmon in a chickpea batter served with a cooling sauce and some chili oil. The portions are very generous. The halibut was a great recommendation. The fish was well prepared and the spices really lent a good flavor. The tandoori salmon on the biryani was also well prepared and the biryani itself was great. Again, the seafood portions were generous. When you're in Victoria, make a reservation and try Fishhook (the did have to turn away a number of diners who didn't have reservations).

Best meal of our trip to Victoria! The food was amazingly flavored, and it was interesting as we were not familiar with fresh fish and seafood combined with Indian spices. So delicious and seafood was handled perfectly. Even delicate squid was tender in the biryani. We had great service when we arrived and through ordering. Very helpful discussing the menu. We loved everything we ordered, especially the mussels and The Belly tartine. These were both exciting in flavor and texture. The bread they were served with was crispy, light and delicious. We also enjoyed the seafood kaftka and the aforementioned bireyani. The pickles were a wonderful way to start the meal. The food was both familiar and unusual. If we lived here, I'm sure we'd come often. Our only complaint was no one came to clear our used dishes and discuss dessert. We couldn't even catch someone's attention for more than 10 minutes, and the restaurant was quiet at this point in the evening. We finally got someone's attention and ordered the ganache. So happy about that too. Rich, smooth, chocolaty, topped with berries and cardamom coconut cream. Delicious. Glad we had the patience to wait for the server to put down their phone to wait on us. So different than the start of the meal though!

Delicious and such friendly service! The shrimp tartine and biryani with squid were the standouts! Definitely make a recommendation if possible- pretty much all the tables were reserved and taken by 7!

Enjoyed the unique flavors of Fishhook for dinner. My partner and I enjoyed the biryani and pondicherry. We were fortunate to get a table for an early dinner before diners with reservations arrived. Will make a reservation next time as it's a small restaurant. Friendly staff.

The food was flavorful and rich. fresh and excellently prepared. I'm here on vacation and we are probably going back. If I lived here this would be a regular spot for me. Staff was 10/10 with service and friendliness

Fresh off the ferry and my family was starving. Browsed through Yelp and found Fishhook. Fishhook is off the Main Street in Victoria, small restaurant with several tables. Service was great- was sat and attended to right away. My kids all ordered Fishhook's freshly made sodas with mango and anise- delicious. I tried a cocktail with a local gin. Several of us ordered the fish and chips- so delicious with a homemade remoulade, red cabbage slaw, and delicious fries with unique seasoning. My daughter ordered a salmon and curry- outstanding. I love the unique splash of Indian flavors with seafood. This place is a must try!

Lovely Indian fish place with a dedicated GF fryer and many GF options. I was thrilled to try breaded and fried cod, wow! Yummy baked halibut with chana, papadam and quinoa, veggie pakora app. All delish, didn't get glutened! Wonderful service, lovely family business for over 15 years, don't miss!

Visited Fishhook for dinner on a Friday evening with a party of 6. We had 5:00pm reservation that we made the prior day. The restaurant has one table that can accommodate 6-8. Everyone in our group loved the restaurant. We ordered the Poutine, the hot pot, the fresh catch (halibut), Pekoras (halibut), and wine from BC. Service was really good. Everyone working at the restaurant is passionate about the food they service which makes ordering and trying even more fun. The fish/mussels are locally sourced another huge plus! Can't say enough great things!

A very good and pleasantly surprising spot! We were wanting to try red fish blue fish but didn't know that they were closed for the season, so we ended up here instead. I didn't realize that this spot had Indian and French influences, which added a really nice and interesting twist on the food! We came at lunch time and got the fish and chips as well as the fishhook chowder. The fish and chips were great - super crispy fish on top of a bed of nicely seasoned thin masala fries. The chowder was also good, but not entirely what I expected. It was thin, and more soup like rather than a thick clam chowder, but it had nice pieces of fish inside and a good coconut flavor that I enjoyed. Service was friendly, the ambiance was pleasant, and they brought out the food fresh and hot really quickly! I was overall quite pleased with this spot for lunch.

We stopped here for lunch on a cloudy and slightly rainy day. The inside dining area is small, but the staff is friendly and the food was satisfying. The water in Victoria is good, but I wanted to try the chai cream soda. It was not sweet at all but had a pleasant chai flavor. We both wanted something hot and the chowder with smoked wild caught salmon and cod fit our needs perfectly! Hubby added The Cure tartine with lox and chive cream cheese on a toasted baguette, while I chose The Tuna Melt tartine with sliced albacore tuna. Both sandwiches were tasty and we were each happy with our choices!

Interesting fusion of seafood and Indian-French inspired food. I tasted mostly Indian inspired and not so much French. The place was bustling when we came on a Friday, late lunch. We managed to get a seat by the window. The service was quick and friendly, server gave us some help with our menu to identify dishes that may be too spicy for the kids. We ordered: - Briyani ($26) - This was the best dish IMO. We all enjoyed this the most and couldn't get enough. Love the pieces of squid in it. - The Belly ($17) - The sandwich was HUGE. It tasted ok but a bit dry (dry fish on dry bread). The sauerkraut could get a bit much. - Fish and Chips - Cod ($17) - It came with a generous portion size of fish but flavor wise, it wasn't memorable. There was a spicy sauce served in the side that we dipped the fish in but it was overly spicy and didn't improve on the flavors of the dish. Came with a small salad and fries. Overall, other than the Briyani, the rest of the dishes were just ok.

We had a high bar because we had just gone to an Indian restaurant in Chicago that was over the top good. Sizzling Tandoor met that bar. It was just as good as Chicago. Many reviews mentioned the Rogan Josh Lamb so we ordered that and balanced it off with Chicken Tikka Masala. We each ate half of each entree. A side of plain Naan completed the meal. We like hot food and we're going to order hot, but our server, Muskan, convinced us to get medium hot. It was perfect. Muskan was attentive but didn't hover. She engaged us in a nice convo after our meal and was very pleasant. The most difficult part was deciding which we liked better. The lamb won, but only by a small margin. Both were excellent.

Our group arrived some time after 9pm on a Friday evening. I knew we were in for a treat as soon as we opened the door. There was an amazing aroma of spices that was waiting for us inside. The service was great! We were immediately sat at a large table near the entrance. We had a great view of the entire restaurant. Every table was taken, and I'm assuming it was their last dinner seating since it was past closing time. We were given samples of a pilsner from the local Hoyne Brewing Company as our guide was telling us about this unique restaurant with Kerala cuisine. It was so smooth and light. It actually pairs well with spicy food. The experience became magical after receiving this beautifully plated fish/rice ball. I love the presentation with the curry leaf on top. It's like a cross between an arancini and a fish curry. This was a flavor bomb. Absolutely delicious! It was crispy on the outside, and packed with a yummy filling of minced fish and curry spices on the inside. I've never had anything like it. I would go back to Victoria just to eat at this restaurant. It was that wonderful! I wish we had more time here. We were only in port for 3.5 hours. Fortunately, it was enough time to take this tour. I'm not sure we would have found it otherwise. I feel so fortunate that Cafe Malabar was one of the stops. The restaurant location is new to Mermaid Wharf. It was previously located in Victoria Public Market. I predict lots of good things happening for them in the future. The hype is real!

Though the sauce made a valient effort, I am, in the end, absolutely convinced that those were frozen carrots and green beans...either that or they were actually rubber. Then, we hit rock bottom with the "green salad". Some badly chopped tasteless vegetables lined up like they are ready to be stir-fried and no dressing. I guess you were supposed to squeeze a lemon on them. Yum, yes please, I would love thick slices of raw onion with some lemon squeezed on it, who wouldn't? So take a dosa to go is my advice. Or go somewhere else. Fake flowers on the table, so maybe those carrots and green beans were made of rubber.
