The food here is excellent. We enjoyed our seafood selection as it was fresh and delicious. However I can't say I would go out of my way to come here again given the ambiance and service. Staff were scattered, no one seemed to have a job as they bounced around from host stand, bar to table service up and downstairs. We ordered drinks with our food and they came after the entree was served. Our empty plates sat there until they brought over our mains. Then the waiter seemed perplexed that he couldn't put them down because there was no room. Complete lack of management makes this a poor dining choice. Not to mention the ambiance was dead. Seafood any fresher and your bream would be flapping around on your plate, gasping for air in its gills. Luckily, it's all perfectly cooked and delectable. We turned up with our 'two courses for £15' vouchers we'd collected from the newspaper. The waiter did have a vaguely snooty expression on his face when we asked about it, but not to worry - he still had to serve us. To add insult to injury, the 'special' menus were printed on the brightest yellow paper you've ever seen, so everyone in the place could determine the cheapskates (skates - geddit??!) I think this probably says more about my own insecurities and snobbishness than about the actual restuarant, which is traditionally smart, dark wood panels and curtains all round, with some subtley romantic lighting (take note, fellas). Wipe your drool off the wine menu and begin - they'll recommend the perfect bottle so as not to overpower the delicate I had seabass resting on a bed of tangy mustard mash (speckled with mustard seeds) served with sauteed spring greens. Simple, yes, easy to get right, no. Fishers got it better than right. Flaky, meaty flesh versus creamy mash and juicy veg. I'm in an underwater heaven. The main was so filling and zingy, I can barely remember desert. I believe it involved chocolate and cream and was value for moulah, but that ain't very useful to you. What you need to know is that people come here for the fish, and stay here for the fish (and langoustine, and prawns, and lobster, and oysters, and mussels and clams). I have a weakness for sea food, particularly fresh sea food, and after visiting Fishers restaurant, I have a weakness for Fishers. It's fairly posh, as to be expected in Clifton, with dark wood and well spoken waiters. Not to bad though, with various bits and pieces denoting the nautical theme of the place and giving the place a little bit of character. The prices match the décor unfortunately, but aren't too appalling though. Expect to pay about fifteen pounds for a main course. Once it comes, the quality of the food should have you not fretting too much about the price of the place. You should get perfectly cooked fish dishes every time that are succulent seasoned exactly right. The wine menu that goes with it is well chosen and if, like me, you're not too sure what to pick, the waiter or waitress will gladly recommend. Well executed dishes with beautifully fresh food, Fishers doesn't need the high end ambience to justify its prices. read more

I'm so glad that I found this place when I first arrived in Bristol. Fishers has an inviting atmosphere that is both great for a special night out or catching up with an old friend. Now whenever in Bristol I always dine here because the food is delicious and all home made. They have the best sweet chilli sauce, I guarantee the best. The Fish & Chips is huge (trust me I know I'm from America) and the freshly chipped potatoes are the best in Bristol. The chefs are always coming up with new things on their seasonal menu. When I was last there my favorite was the fillet of Seabass with puy lentil salsa ans sauce vierge. Try it, trust me it is delicious. And the desserts are melt in your mouth delcious, especially the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Banana Fritters. If you have a food allergy or special dietary needs the chefs are always willing to accomodate you. They'll do virtually anything you want as long as they have the ingredients and they're more than happy to help. I used to work here and know that it is quite possibly one of the best places one can work. You get treated well here and you also have fun while at work. For someone who has spent hours upon hours in the service industry I know how important it is to work at a place like this. When I'm a patron at places I always feel better spending my money there when the staff seem happy and like they are treated well. I don't know many who work there anymore but I have always had pleasant service and been happy with whoever helped me. Try this place and I'm sure you'll love it. read more

Not being a enormous fan of seafood anyway, I have to admit being slightly underwhelmed by the quality of the food on offer at Fishers Seafood Restaurant. I went here with a largish group of people and maybe they forget to cook a meal in the kitchen, then shared what they had cooked between all of us, because the portion sizes were tiny. This wasn't good, particularly as they weren't cheap, in fact they were expensive. The service was friendly and attentive enough and the atmosphere was welcoming. Unfortunately the meal did not meet expectations and neither did the price! We did expect a lot more from Mich Tonks, but like most of these celebrity chef restaurants, the chefs rairly have much to do with what goes on in the kitchen. read more

Fishers is a great local fish restaurant. First time we went we just popped in to try their early evening dining offer (before 7.30) - £5 for a main from a selection of about dishes - I had ling (a flatfish) which was excellent and my partner had the fishcakes which were really nice and big. We went back for an anniversary meal and had one of the shellfish platters, had loads of clams, prawns, langoustines & mussels and comes beautifully presented on a raised platter. We dropped in for the lunch menu: a real bargain at £8.50 for two courses. The style is relaxed, with fishy-themed decor, and service friendly. The food was absolutely superb: tasty and perfectly-cooked calamari with sweet chili sauce; whole mackerel with a flavoured butter and fat, crispy chips; and our neighbours' desserts also looked temptingly good! I am jumping for joy......the reason, well I have found the most amazing fish restaurant in Bristol! Having been living in Mexico for a few years and spearfishing my own lobster I have quite honestly been spoilt rotton! (Just the way I like it) Did I ever for one moment consider the possibility of ever eating in a fish restaurant again and finding that same freshness and taste NO WAY!! However it has happened. The Fishers Restaurant is incredible the mussels which I opted for are out of this world.... and a bargain too. Does it get any better I ask myself. They do a great offer from 6pm -8pm every evening and quite honestly I have to say the place was buzzing. So after a delicious meal the bill arrived which is never the highlight of the night but in this case it was shock 'Is that all I have to pay are you sure!'. What a treat a good meal at an incredible price made it taste even better! So the end of this story is a happy girl left with a full belly and purse which still had some money left for a drink after. What more could I ask for..... except the nurofen the next day. read more

To start , the dish we ordered was supposed to have scallops and there was not one. The prawns were visibly not fresh. We paid extra for the crab claws and they were so over cooked the meat inside was shredded and half disintegrated. Nice wine and decent desert but overall I am sick that we paid a most 60 per person for a mediocre meal at best. I am not sure how they got such good reviews in the past. If Fishers was a pub it would be my local. I come here all the time- it's very un-poncy with friendly down-to-earth staff and a fantastic daily changing menu. As I am skint most of the time I try and take advantage of the early dining menu, where selected main courses are only a fiver. I tend to drink too much on these occasions too but that's okay because the wine list is well priced and a bottle of house plonk is only about £12. I've had many a happy time there and always look forward to going there. read more

Fishers is a great (guess what) seafood restaurant. They offer a fantastic A la carte menu and a really good early bird menu which is fantastic value. I have had really delicious fishcakes there and the most amazing Cornish crab. They always serve wonderful bread and gorgeous desserts. They also serve champagne by the glass (or kir royale) which is great if you want a treat but don't want to blow the budget. This is a really good place if you want to catch up with your friends in a relaxing atmosphere whilst having beautiful food. I thoroughly recommend this place: really nice but not poncy! read more
