My fried shrimp and catfish were cooked to perfection; fresh, crisp and not too greasy. Batter used on the shrimp was a different texture than I'm used to but still good. Fish was well seasoned and served in a large enough portion to have two meals. Sides of collards, Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, and were hearty, standard/ not outstanding, and savory. Just enough pot liquor for the cornbread. Although I got food to go, would have loved led staying inside at the cozy and friendly restaurant. Okay I hate to give a Black owned business a lukewarm review, but the food was mid as far as soul food. The collard greens tasted like vinegar, the catfish fillet was not seasoned well and the macaroni and cheese was oily and there was hardly any cheese. Fishbone needs to hire all new cooks that are consistent. Fish is either over or under cooked. The corn meal comes off the fish and shrimp. The fish looks unappealing and the seasoning is hit or miss. Try changing to Louisiana seafood fish fry. It's perfectly seasoned and it stays on your fish. They also have a shrimp fry that's wonderful. Macaroni is horrible and so is the coleslaw. You've been open to long now not to be consistent. I'm not a big fish eater. But today my husband and my father wanted fish. So I went along. I'm a convert! Had the fried snapper and the okra. Delicious! Okra's got a little kick, but def not too hot. Fish was cooked perfectly, and I loved the seasoning and the tartar sauce. Bread was great, too. Husband and Dad both loved their shrimp and fries. Place is clean, including the bathroom. I have been there a couple time around the time you first open the foods, and service was excellent the 3rd time I noticed a decline in foods quality and services stayed away for while out of disappointment came back just recently notice package changes but I'm sorry my fish dinner the fish was fry to hard and the cut was so thin. We were excited to try a new seafood place in town and were sadly disappointed. Ordered online to go, pick up time was 530. We got there 5 min late and the order wasn't ready for another 5 min....whatever, they were busy I get it. Got 3 dinners to try: tilapia, catfish and red snapper all fried. Collard greens, yams, potato salad, mac n cheese and a green salad. All the fish were good, smaller thin filets but what you would expect from a fried fish, nothing off putting and they give you a large amount. The sides is where this goes south. They forgot our potato salad. The collard greens were...bizarre tasting. We couldn't identify the seasoning and our family loves greens but none of us liked the strange flavor and aftertaste these had. The yams were too mushy, overseasoned and very very sweet. The Mac n cheese looked good, I took one small bite and had to take it away from my kid. Absolute salt bomb! I couldn't believe it. The green salad was fresh and plentiful. Came with dressing. 4 starts usually this place is 5. The other night I order Catfish/ Shrimp combo and with Red beans & rice & Mac n Cheese. Usually this is my regular order. The Mac N Cheese the other nught was curdled and over salted. I didn't call to day anything but if you order Mac n cheese in 8/27/24 im surely we had the same experience. On October 25, I placed an order for a plate of red snapper and fries from the Fish Bone stand at the Lake Elsinore Outlets. After about 20 minutes, I got my plate. After I began eating the fish, I discovered it was catfish rather than the red snapper I had requested. Three members of my family tasted the fish, and it was once more determined to be catfish. I returned the food to the stand. After passing my food to three individuals to check the box, the cashier came back and said it wasn't CATFISH. I then explained that RED SNAPPER does not have a gummy texture. Then I heard the woman who was frying the fish speak to the cashier. However, due to the live music playing in the background, I was unable to understand what was being said. "We gave you another piece" was the cashier's statement once she returned with my box. To be clear, the piece of fish did not resemble the ones I had previously gotten. To summarize, improve your service. All I was asking for was what I had paid for. I love my fish fried well done and they did it perfectly. I would say though, the seasoning was lacking & was pretty much non existent, the fish was still good though. The fries were a dud. I wish places would do better with their fry selection because a good fry keeps people coming! These were thick crinkle cut fries with seasoning on them which I give a .5/10. The jumbo shrimp and hush puppies were very delicious, the catfish was cooked well but needed more seasoning/salt. The greens were tasty however the potato salad needed more onion, more sweet pickle and way less Mayo. Today my husband and decided to eat in to have the freshest meal possible. We both had red snapper and regular shrimp. I had fries & coleslaw. The fish was fried a tad to hard and were small/thinner pieces. The regular shrimp was tasty but fried harder than I prefer. We normally love their food, but they've apparently changed their mac-n-cheese recipe without noting it on the menu. We went a few days ago and our mac-n-cheese was red colored with some kind of spices or sauce. It was not appealing to us and a waste of money because 2 people did not eat their order. It was too spicy and not a flavor that we enjoyed. This type of change should be noted so people like us don't waste our money. This is my second time eating Fishbone. This place is in a good location. It was clean and quiet. The staff were very nice and professional. I ordered fried red snapper which came with a couple hush puppies and a really soft dinner roll. I also ordered greens and cornbread as sides. I also had a slice of 7up cake. If you like fish, you NEED to go here. They have a bunch of kinds of fish like Red Snapper, sole, catfish, Catfish etc... fried OR grilled (thank you!). So hard to find good, moist, flavorful grilled fish that isn't dry. To find it take out style and affordable is a dream come true! They NAILED IT!! Almost perfect. I generally only write reviews if a place is REALLY good or REALLY bad. This place is excellent. We are big fish eaters so pretty picky about fish. We had grilled red snapper and fried catfish. The fish was sooo moist and flavorful. The quality is equal to a 5 star fish restaurant for the fish and the best take out fish I have ever had (and Im in my early 40s). Snapper: OMGosh the flavor was out of this world. You HAVE to get it. Don't ask. Just get it. Fried catfish: All too often fried fish just taste like the breading but the crust was thin, crisp and added to the dish without taking over. You definitely still get a ton of fish with a flavorful, crisp but thin crust on it. The seasoning is ON POINT!!!! Sliiiight kick in the breading but Im a TOTAL baby with spice and for me it was perfect (if you like spice you'll want to add your own heat bc I wouldn't call it hot at ALL). Both fishes: The flavor is sooooo amazing. We are picky foodies and this is DEFINITELY going to become a regular place for us. "Almost" perfect you ask? Siio the fish was perfect. No complaints, not one thing could be improved. The mac n cheese however has room for improvement. The flavor was good but it's lacking in a creaminess or sauce to it. Tastes more like noodles and cheese with good flavor (but too heavy on black pepper in some bites) so this has potential to be ahhhmazing. You have to buy bottled to get ANYthing to drink (Pepsi products) so to get water for my kid, I had to buy bottled Aquafina ($1.50/water $3/soda). Minor detail but I like having a place where I can get the fizzier fountain soda with refills. They could make more money that way too. Next time I'll stop at McD's if coming from the east or stop next door at Luna for a fountain drink. Hopefully as they get up and running they'll invest in a fountain system (preferably Coca-Cola products) even if it is just the basics bc the mark up on that would benefit them and it would make their customers happy. We did not try any other sides or desert but look forward to that next time. I don't know if they are a chain, franchise or mom and pop but they seemed to be working hard, have great quality, place was clean, took about 25 min to get the food but it was fresh, fresh, fresh. The cashier was nice and personable but she may want to watch her language. Im used to it as a HS teacher but didn't appreciate the f bomb considering my 8 yr old was right there next to me (and it was Sun on our way home from church) but she was nice and helpful so she just needs educating about what's appropriate to say and when, to whom etc. I didn't say anything at the time but if the owners read this, have a convo with the nice young lady about the fact that not everyone uses the f word and some may be offended by it. Also consider that those coming in on Sun for lunch who are dressed nicely might not be the type who use that lol. The food is so good Id hate you to lose customers over something like that but she meant well so just needs re-educating, not disciplining. Overall... definitely in the top 5 now for fave places to eat in Menifee. We are already talking about what we want to try next time! PLEASE keep the quality up!! The fish is always great. It comes out hot and fresh seasoned right. Not too salty. The sides also are always good. The shrimp are horrible though. This is the second time I've gotten the shrimp. I thought it may have been an off day the last time I ordered, but no, they are just trash. They are always rubbery and bland. They always taste like they came straight from being in the freezer to the deep fryer. I threw the shrimp away on both of my last two visits.
