Preface: Maybe my taste for seafood is spoiled, from having lived 14 years in dc/md, but this trip to fishack was thoroughly un-impressive. I normally won't post a review on a local restaurant, until my third time in; but this meal was so bad, that I couldn't let it slide. The entree: Following my typical routine for local restaurants, I ordered something familiar for my first trip; in this case, crab cakes in a cream sauce, with a vegetable medley. The crab was both flavorless and old. It had the texture of over-cooked asparagus(soft and stringy). The vegetables were so old, that they ate like jell-o and the "cream sauce" both tasted and looked, like salty milk. The experience: The server was very attentive and courteous; he never made me wait and payed close attention to my table. He didn't make me ask for anything twice and didn't present the bill, until I asked. To summarize; the food was crap and for being 10 minutes from the Atlantic(in traffic), this is inexcusable. At 14.95, the entree was obviously, terrible value for money. However, the service was good. I'd seriously consider giving this place a single star, if the server wasn't as good as he was. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, whom I actually cared for. read more

OMG, I loved this place! Have been coming to Vero Beach to visit Mom for at least a decade and we were always dragged to places that were overpriced and overcooked. This is without a doubt the BEST seafood I've had in this town, and I'm originally from the Boston area so it's not like I'm not a bit on the high maintenance side when it comes to this sort of thing. Mom had the Shacktastic and loved it, the fish couldn't have been fresher tasting. I had the fried clam platter (I hadn't had clams since we moved to AZ five years ago) and it was worth the wait! I'm not a big french fries fan, so I opted for the extra buck and got the sweet potato tater tots....which I highly recommend. . We were there around 1P on a Wednesday. Great friendly service and a totally acceptable wait time for the meal to arrive. I thought the atmosphere was great (loved the fabric on the booths...which were pretty cool in themselves as they're nice and long, so could very easily accommodate at least 3 (or 4 if you're my Mom's size) people on each side. My only regret is that I waited until the last day I was in town to try this place. Can hardly wait until we come back in March for spring training; it's going to be the first place we go. I have been re-visiting this establishment for over 5 years. I love the fresh fish available but my ultimate and absolute favorite "go to" items are always the whole Maine Lobster and fresh LI Steamers when they have them. Tacos are always awesome, Shrimp and Grits, and anything fresh and blackened. You will definitely be happy you stopped in for an awesome Margherita and a great dinner or lunch. I love coming to Fishack when I'm visiting my parents in Vero. On a recent visit, I thoroughly enjoyed my tuna tacos. I swapped out the fries for a salad (the fries are good, though), and asked for a side salad instead. Their crab ranch dressing is totally delicious. My husband enjoyed his oyster po boy, and my dieting dad gave his veggie wrap a 7 out of 10 (the wrap was tasty, but the vegetables needed to be drained more--"tasty but messy"). On my recent visit, I wasn't drinking beyond the tasty unsweetened tea my dad and I ordered. However, I've had great luck with their margaritas in the past--totally delicious. For the price, we really like fishack. Don't come here for a hot date or for the atmosphere--come for the cheap beers and the delicious tacos. read more

After moving to Vero and really have only eaten at RiverSide. I wanted to change things up so, I've seen this restaurant I dared to go in and after 5 trips I have to suggest it to others, Ive had the Blackened Fish Sandwich, The Blackened shrimp quesadilla, Lobster wrap, and some Peel and eat shrimp. All great haven't had a bad meal there. We went here for dinner a few nights ago and it was really good. I ordered the special: Haddock with crab meat and asparagus, rice and veggies- I loved it! My parents ordered fish and chips and they said it was great. My mom and I ordered Pina Coladas and they were delicious. Very happy with Fishack, will return! read more

It was my boyfriend and I's first time at the Fishack this past Wednesday, the 6th... and WOW! Our dinners were absolutely delicious! Hard to go wrong with a whole Lobster, and the Seafood Stew had a VERY generous amount of seafood, especially lobster, which wasn't expected! Had a great lunch at the Fishack today. I ordered one of the specials, the Snapper Ponchartrain, and I pretty much cleaned my plate. Sautéed snapper topped with a mix of tomatoes, real crab, green onion and garlic, served with fresh veggie mix of zucchini, onions, green beans. Typically served with bell peppers, but they left them off at my request, thank god, because #NoPeppersEver and #SatanMadeBellPeppers. Family and I are traveling south to get back home from vacation and used Yelp to find our dinner spot. Our intention was to go next door based solely on reviews but decided to give this place a try because the island design is our style. They had a happy hour throughout the whole restaurant. I ordered a Kendall Jackson Chardonnay and my second glass was a penny. Happy hour in the restaurant side is always a bonus. I ordered the fish stew. It came with an assortment of fish served over cheese ravioli. The sauce was a Sherry k cream sauce with a hint of spice, similar to a lobster bisque soup. It was very good. Large chunks of lobster, scallops, shrimp and crap. I thought it was in line with the price of $27. Hubby had the scallop entree. Scallops topped with bread crumbs were a little small and chewy. It was served with rice and vegetables which made up for the scallops. Lol. Hubby said he would order something else next time. My son had a cheese quesadilla, nothing more to say on that except he liked it. And then there was dessert. Peanut Reeses pie. Omg! I'm not a big dessert person but that pie could begin a terrible addiction. Just order it! Our server was great after the initial greet. How disappointed we were this evening when we went to the Fishshack. The Vero Beach paper ran their add indicating that Tuesday was all you can eat fish and chips, Wednesday Maine lobster and Thursday tacos. When we asked for the lobster all you eat we were told that the add did not apply to lobster. False advertising to get customers in the door this quiet time of the year? Yes, I think so. My husband and I just landed back in Northern California and we still can't get over our trip to Vero. We rented metal detectors, checked out copious amounts of shopping malls, went alligator watching, and indulged in the local sour margarita scene. However, the undisputed highlight of our trip was or server, Mario, the night before we departed the beautiful state of Florida. The food was really good, I haven't found many places in Vero I would say that about but I have zero complaints here. I got the blackened shrimp tacos which came with two big tacos loaded with fresh shrimp, nothing was greasy or felt like I was eating thawed out frozen fish, the super helpful gentleman at the bar told me about an avocado and jalapeño sort of salsa mix they had and I opted to use that in place of the salsa it normally comes with and was not disappointed! My boyfriend got the Shack Burrito and I was skeptical but once again, so delicious! Huge but fresh and "clean" (not sure if that's an adjective to be used for the way something tastes but hopefully you get what I'm sayin) so you didn't feel like you just ate a bunch of junk, no after dinner, tummy ache. And we split the Lobster MAC and Cheese and holy Lobster Batman! There was amazing, giant, juicy chunks of lobster throughout the entire dish! Definitely a bang for your buck and they list it under starters/apps but it's definitely the volume of a large American meal. The only thing I would say is if they could throw some cheese that had a little more pop to it's flavor that would make the experience flawless, but then I would probably eat it 4 times a week and no one needs Mac and cheese that much. I met a colleague from work and I happened to arrive first at the restaurant. When I went in I was met by a waitress who had a personality that really made me question this place. No smile no name badge and asked how she could help me in a tone that really made me believe she didn't want to be here. The only negative about this place is that it is a bit loud but this could be expected for a tavern-like environment. I ordered the peel and eat shrimp which were good and the crusted scallops which were outstanding! They had a light panko crust and were in a puree of some type which had an excellent flavor.
