Had an odd experience here. Place smelled delicious and the patio was perfect but we never got a chance to order entrees. We had drinks and apps and it took our server an hour to casually return to our table and ask "have you had a chance to look at the menu? Ready to order yet?" Everyone else had been served but somehow we were forgotten. We asked to speak to the manager and he was super apologetic but didn't offer to comp anything. They had a serious wait time for the inside, but honestly, they sat us pretty quickly outside.. I got the white sangria to drink, alligator bites, and baked oysters for appetizers. The alligator bites were a bit too salty for me, but they were seasoned well.. hubby got a lobster roll and truffle fries. He didn't like the sauce on the rolls. We are lobster roll snobs, so he said if we come back, he wouldn't get it... I got the stuffed flounder, string beans, and sweet potato mash. My meal was good. My prior review goes into detail -- I'm still an ahi-lightly-seared-kind-of- person -- but I'm writing an update with tips based on the birthday dinner my husband and I hosted Saturday night. *** Call early to book your table, particularly if you're looking for weekend reservations. I phoned the first week in January for our February 19th dinner. *** Ask for the back room. It's quieter, tables are nicely spaced, and it's more conducive than the main dining room for larger parties. I noticed three birthday dinners happening Saturday night. *** Management doesn't mind if you provide your own wine, something I prefer to do. The corkage fee is a reasonable $10 per bottle. *** Want to bring a birthday cake? No problem. You'll be charged $10, which is more than fair. Otherwise, order desserts from the menu. Fish Thyme's key lime pie is delish. We had eleven people in our party. Everyone was pleased with their order, including the one non-fish eater who had ribs. (They looked pretty good!) A tasty whiskey-sour to start & parm-potato encrusted flounder with creamed spinach & garlic mashed potatoes for entree. Wife had a mojito & the horseradish-encrusted grouper with green beans & garlic mash. Also very good & the horseradish was not too hot at all. I did not expect the oysters to be so darn good. I started off with 6 and ended up eating 18 by myself in total. I ordered lamb chops which were fantastic! I didn't really care for the mashed sweet potatoes, only because it was to sweet for my liking. The lamb chops didn't need the apricot mint jelly, I scrapped it off. But still it was a great meal. Drove 1 hour to try this restaurant. Got there 5 minutes before 5 pm (opening). side door was open and employees walking around. As I opened the door to use the restroom quickly, the two hostesses rudely yelled at me to leave and wait till restaurant opens. Another customer behind me, needed to do the same. So, my girlfriend had wanted to take me here for some time and we finally got a date night to do it. She setup reservations for it, and I certainly recommend doing that based off how many people were here on a Thursday night. Parking for this place was crazy too ... it's in a nice area that has a few shops, and it's clear it's a popular spot. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It's certainly more upscale and the prices will reflect that. Even the outdoor seating options were nice (they had a water fountain outside and comfy weatherproof couches plus tables. We opted for outside, and I apologize for lack of pictures. I was trying to keep my phone away bc of our date night. If you're coming here, it's all about the fish and the menu heavily reflects that. It's a niche for sure, but they have all types of fish! We decided to skip appetizers and jump in. I orders the Orange Roughy with mashed sweet potatoes and cucumber salad. The sweet mashed potatoes were probably the best I've had (creamy and not overly sweet but could've been a dessert). The fish flaked perfectly and the sauce provided just a very very slight sweet heat. The cucumber salad was light and refreshing! My gf's tuna with ponzu sauce was sooooooo good. You could taste all the flavors, and even the seared portions were bursting with deliciousness. We complemented our meal with a bottle of Chasing Lions Cab. It was also light and not bad for a cheaper bottle. We both enjoyed it! Our dessert, the cinnamon spice cake, was also light and delicious. This was the only disappointing part, bc I didn't taste the burnt marshmallow cream. Our service was excellent, think his name was DJ? We had a large family party for dinner. We were seated on time. Service was good, a bit slow at first as members of the party arrived at different times, but the whole visit was exquisite. We ordered everything from drinks from the bar, appetizers, entrees, sides & salads and of course dessert. Portions were very large and great for the prices. The environment was upbeat and well-lit, it was easy to hear conversation at the table. Our server was wonderful, keeping up with constant additional orders and asking for additionals and extra drinks. The food was wonderful from the crab cakes, to pork chops to the swordfish. Fish Thyme is that version of a local destination worth the hype but nice enough to feel like it should in big-town suburbia. If you can make it past the crab dip and local fried green tomatoes without a nap (impossible if you added calamari frites), keep up the momentum with some Naked Fish: salmon/tuna/swordfish/trout. Put some dressings on those bad boys, or tour the States with Texas redfish (my recent fave), fried Mississippi catfish, grilled N.Ga trout, Alaskan snow crab, or Hawaiian ribeye. Plenty of non-state-named choices for all you state-averse types too. Oh and don't worry if you want to stay off Lake Acworth this visit: try the half-chicken or double-chop land selection, among others. They have salads. They have sides. They have rum cake and bourbon bread pudding to sleep early and often during this meal. Okay that runs the gamut. Service is consistently friendly, and *remember* they're closed Monday and Tuesday to make things great for you those other days and making bourbon runs to restock the pudding. So when I ate here a few years ago and didn't have a very good meal/experience I didn't leave a review. I'm glad that I waited! Tonight, was exactly what I was expecting. Everything was on point. I had a half order of trout. My friends both had salmon with different sauce. We all liked our meals. Our waiter was amazing. Attentive, friendly and well trained. When I asked for her personal recommendations she gave me a recommendation for someone new to seafood, a seafood lover and someone who didn't want seafood. I thought that was a great way to spotlight something from each section of the menu. She also explained some ingredients in such a nice way. I felt like she went out of her way to out us at ease. Wonderful experience! Our server, Miss Dorothy, was fantastic! There were four of us and we had an enjoyable evening from the appetizers of mussels, oysters and fried green tomatoes (served hot and crispy!) to the entrees; we had the blackened red fish, naked trout with beure blanc sauce, and the snow crab legs. Each came with two sides--we had the corn, cucumber salad, kale salad and garlic mashed potatoes and sweet potato mash. Wow!! All the food was cooked to perfection, and I'm not exaggerating. The restaurant is a little on the loud side, but the blue lighting and the candlelight make it romantic. If you've been here you know what I mean. If you haven't you must come! Prices are reasonable too. Parking just outside the restaurant--and I didn't even mention the fire pit on the outdoor patio!! And a adobe fireplace indoors. They take reservations. The fried green tomatoes were a little tart and I do believe that they could have been fried a little bit longer, however my waiter was kind enough to take them off. The hurricane drink is really good and strong take it easy if your driving . My entree was the trout with mashed sweet potatoes and the kale salad. The fish was very flavorful and very filling . I was able to taste some of the other food that was at the table and everything was just as delicious.
