    Alligator bites - balls
    Tatyana W.

New to the area, we were given a gift certificate to try this spot. The place was very clean. A bit dated, but welcoming. Staff were very pleasant and full of smiles. We explained we were new and the hostess suggested menu items based on our likes. Service was fairly quick - we were the only ones there at the time. Food was presented well, and the portions were a great size. We ordered an appetizer sampler of onion rings, fried green tomatoes, and alligator ball/bites. An order of oyster po'boy, and a fried sampler of shrimp, oysters, and cat fish. Each item in the appetizer sampler was full size - large. The po'boy sandwich was fresh and came with large fries and hush puppies. The fried sampler had three large shrimp, three large oysters, and several pieces of fried catfish nuggets/pieces. The food was fresh, lightly breaded, crispy, and mild flavored. There was a condiments area of sauces and spices. Perfect touch. Our total was roughly $62. The amount of food we received was enough to feed 3-5 hungry people. We were very pleased with our purchase and plan to visit again.

Their food may be great but, I won't know because their posted hours on the web and the hours posted on their door are different. The reality is that they close at 8 pm NOT 9 pm. Maybe next time Fish Tales. I drove miles to eat at your restaurant tonight only to find you closed. You should update your hours to reflect when you are actually open.

Hole in the wall and our first time here and OMG "What a catch"! From the fried Boudin balls to the fried okra, everything was on point! The blackened fish on a bed of rice was delicious! I was a little hesitant to try alligator bites but I'm so glad I did. I'm an alligator bites lover now. Never heard of fried green beans so I had to try them. Again...did not disappoint. The hush puppies alone were so delicious, it's like biting into a corn fritter ball. Yum!!!! If you haven't been here and want good food, I highly recommend. Bring the kids or hang out with friends for some good comfort food. Can't wait to come back!

Trio combo platter was good. Service in the restaurant was excellent. The chicken and sausage gumbo was pretty good. When you are in Cleveland, give them a try.

    Inedible fries!!!

The shrimp is fabulous, the fries are terrible, they are obviously par fried and it's not working, either taste old or served cold.

5 piece shrimp basket. Had two hush puppies as well.

After dining here, it's pretty obvious that alot of their food items are pre-cooked. It doesn't mean they're bad, or not fresh, it just means they like to prep to ensure their customers receive food in a timely manner. It is a little ironic though since they have a sign inside the dining room stating "Good food ain't fast and fast food aint good!". They do have a small prep area / kitchen to make meals, but it has short ceilings, limited space, and no vent hoods for exhausting steam/smoke. There are 2 microwaves in the kitchen area, if that gives you any idea. Not sure they even have an oven in their kitchen. The dining area is a beachy, tropical theme to fit the name "The Big Kahuna". Their menu is pretty simple, 2 pages with burgers and salads being their specialty. However, they have a weekly steam table special which consists of a meat, 2 sides and a roll for about $10. They also serve bbq, and some Mexican food and even chicken fried steak. Since they seem to specialize in burgers, I ordered a burger. Just traditional burgers here, no fancy toppings. The handformed patty is about 1/3 lb, and comes standard with mayo, lettuce and tomato, served on a Hawaiian sweet bun. I ordered their highly touted fresh cut French fries, which are a la carte and good. Portion size of the fries was a little on the small size. Overall I enjoyed this meal since the taste of the burger and fries were actually good. They didn't ask how you want your burger cooked though, which makes sense since it's a pre cooked patty. How do I know this? Because the burger came out less than 5 mins after ordering from the waitress, and was cooked at least medium well...faster than even some fast food restaurants I've visited lately! They do not have cheddar cheese, just some shredded American cheese blend, so no cheese for me. I did add bacon to my burger, and they initially forgot to add it after bringing the plate to my table. Luckily they remembered though, asked for the plate back, and placed it on the burger. Another complaint is that the bacon is crumbles, not strips. They apparently don't cook the bacon fresh and seemingly use a pre-packaged, pre-cooked product which was pretty salty. Bacon strips are preferred on burgers since they leave less mess on a plate at the end of the meal. I also ordered a sweet tea and a dessert before I left. On my tea refill, the waitress gave me unsweetened tea, which was strange. There were 3 bundt cakes on a cart beside the steam table with slices of vanilla, red velvet and chocolate. I chose the red velvet flavor and it was okay, but I've had better. Maybe the strangest part of the meal is that they give you a spoon to eat your cake!! In summary, the best part of the experience were the prices. The service, food quality, and taste /preparation of some menu items were a little questionable. This might be the reasoning behind the prices....not sure. Some items are just meant to be "cooked to order", and some you can get away with pre-made such as items on a steam table for faster service. I feel burgers should always be cooked to order at a sit down restaurant!

It looks like the building was once one of those old school long n skinny motels. But once you walk in you will see the amazing job they did to create this restaurant. The decor is fun, colorful and lively. Reminds me of a real local place in a small town in Mexico. Super friendly staff will seat and greet you. The menu is huge. Took a minute to decide with such a variety of dishes. I opted for the Agave "Cancun" platter which was shrimp, grilled fish, topped with a white cream sauce and crawfish. Moy delicioso!! Really good. We nibbled on their very yummy queso and chips. It was a busy Sunday morning and the after Church crowd filled the place. Was thinking it might take a while for the food to be served. Wrong! We had not even finished the queso and our food arrived piping hot! Our new go to place for TexMex in Cleveland!! Our server was super friendly and efficient. Highly recommend Agave!!

I ordered a meal and asked for a little cheese to pour over the flautas along with a little pico. Now mind you the cheese and pico came out in bowl not larger than the sauce they serve. Got the bill and the queso was $8.00 and the pico $2.03. Same little container. we questioned the price and was charged for a small queso and no way was it a small queso. The waiter brought out the bowl and we tried to tell him that wasn't what was served, but he didn't listen. also the people who deliver the chips and drinks are the best employees and are probably the least paid. They work harder and are more attentive than the servers. As we were standing waiting on our party the hallway had a sour urine smell. If we ever return it will be a good while.

So my advice is this: if you are in Cleveland, eat here. The hubby got the fajitas. I tried them. They were no shredded or boiled like some person wrote. They were tender and tasty. I even stole one of his. I got the pound of boiled shrimp. The shrimp were cooked well and not overdone like at many boiled shrimp places. The price was very reasonable. In fact the prices were comparable to a good seafood restaurant nearby in humble or Houston. I get this is Cleveland, but it's also a notch above the other places here (I've eaten in them all). If I had one piece of advice, I'd say the appetizer prices are a little high (as they are at almost every restaurant now) but they looked interesting and different than a lot of places. But when you are a Mexican restaurant and you give out free chips and salsa, it makes it easier to not get an appetizer when they are priced high. Maybe lower the price and the portion size? And speaking of the salsa...it was different but excellent. Real spicy. My mouth is still tingling a bit. I think maybe some habañero in there. It was lighter than a regular tomato based salsa, but tasted amazing. I couldn't stop eating it. And they gave you your own individual cup of it so the salsa hogs couldn't steal yours. Also...it's chilled which I prefer, but a little different for the Houston area. So maybe that was part of the issue with that negative Nancy. Anyways, we will be back. This place should be rated even higher than it is. Ignore the negative reviews.
