This was pretty good! I had a two meat plate with brisket and links. I also tried a link of their smoked boudin. I thought the boudin was a bit expensive ( I think it was $9.00), but it was a huge link and was very good. The beef and link were good as were the beans and potato salad. I'm glad I stopped by for a good lunch. Historical to say the least. I'll have to try the ribs next time.

I kept a promise to a good man and took him up on his invite if I was ever in his neighborhood to stop by. I am glad that I did. The food was fantastic and the genuine customer service was phenomenal. When the food is prepared and served with love and kindness, it just eats (yes I said eats) differently and speaks to your soul. The Clevelands are wonderful people and the invite just draws you in on that lingering smell of smokey goodness in the air. We're driving through on our way to H-town and found Duke's on the Yelp app... as per our usual. You never eat bad this way. We found Duke's but realized that they only take cash or check. No worries, my partner left to grab cash while I finished ordering. Duke's amazing staff (kind woman who recently had a birthday - happy belated bella!) brought our order to me, packaged up and ready to go... all before we even paid. 15 minutes passed, them 20, getting close to 30. So, I texted to get the scoop. ATM hell. He's on location number 3 and not feeling hopeful. So, I can be creative. I asked the customers (one couple and one gentleman) in Duke's if anyone had a PayPal account and Angel said she did. She and Gabriel were waiting patiently on their order to arrive and without thinking twice, offered to pay for our meal. Wow. I was hoping to send dollars via PayPal and take care of our check that way. How kind! Meanwhile, my guy finds success with ATM number 3 and texts that he's on his way back with cash. Woot. We returned the kindness and instead paid for the couple's order who offered to pay for ours. And the remaining customer shared that he, too, would've helped out: "That's how neighbors are here. Duke is like that too." He wished ya safe travels and if that weren't enough, the young woman who took out order also shared being happy to take the $9 I had originally in exchange for the bill. It was my first time trying it . I ordered a bake potatoes extra cheese with moist brisket on side . When I got home the potato you can tell was old and it was microwave... The brisket was cold . I only went there one time and ordered a barbecue beef sandwich. No bun, just store bought white bread. It is the same most people use when they make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It did come with something extra special which is rib bones in the sandwich with the meat. Who in the world puts bones in a sandwich? What a waste of money. In laws brought some over and it was the best bbq food. I stopped to get some for lunch the other day it was amazing!

Delicious bbq at a great price and with even better service. Dropped in off a whim while travelling outside Houston to go hunting and realized I played football at the same HS, in California, as his nephew. What a small world. We had a great chat and he even called up his nephew to say hi due to the nice incident. Tried this out since a local referred me here. Cash only!! The prices on yelp pics have increased. We ordered a chopped beef sandwich and a small potato salad. I didn't care for potato salad it had seasonings in it I think. Husband ordered a baked potato with chopped brisket and chicken. It was enough for 2 portions for him. This is as authentic as East TEXAS barbecue gets! The barbecue here is sublime. It's a cash only business and the staff is attentive and gracious. It's a neighborhood place so there's always someone familiar coming in but newcomers are always feeling welcome. The meats are high quality and have just the right amount of smoke on them. I've eaten here many times and probably have only had one chicken that was a bit dry other than that I give the meet a 10 of 10. The sides are OK, but the meat is the thing! Don't let the outside fool you. The inside is kept clean and serviceable for barbecue eating. The sauce is a 9 out of 10. Picked up some BBQ sandwiches while driving through the area on our way to Dallas. It was delicious! The place is not much to look at but when we saw the barbecuing going on out back snd smelled it cooking I knew we were in the right place. They were very friendly. Not sure if you can sit there and eat. We got ours at the drive through window. FYI you cannot eat the sandwich while you drive. It was very juicy and will run down your chin. Mr Duke is a true pit master who has been in business at the same location in Cleveland TX for 35 years! Mr Duke is a Vietnam Vet and served in the US Army as a heavy utility operator. The BBQ is FANTASTIC and definitely worth a stop if your passing through Cleveland TX. I've had everything except the chicken and turkey. Top-of-the-line barbecue. I had it on my drive from Livingston to Houston a couple days ago. The potato salad was quite good with a bit of a mashed texture, and the beans rivaled the best I have ever had. Both sides tasted like they were homemade, which is often not the case at such places where you can tell they came from a mass purchase. I also had links, brisket, and chicken. The people I was with also had ribs and were very happy with them. To be sure, I currently live in central Texas where there is a lot of superbly delicious barbecue. Obviously the taste of meat here is no John Mueller or blacks barbecue in Lockhart. But it's still damn delicious, and the service was really really friendly and welcoming. I've had barbecue only in a few spots on the eastern side of Texas, and so far this place has been my favorite. read more
