Fish!, set in the middle of the bustly Borough market exceeded my expectations. We had lovely outside seating and a personal friendly waiter who gave us help with the wine list. We had a very nice Riesling to start with our oysters, smoked salmon and devilled whitebait. The oysters were very fresh and served with shallot vinegar- lovely. Our maincourses were light and fresh, you can either have a set dish or select your own fish, how its cooked and which sauce to serve it with. I had monkfish, which was plainly grilled with salsa verde on the side and steamed carrots, corguette and chicory. Very good! We ordered a second bottle of the Riesling but it wasnt as cold so they kindly bought us a bottle of the more expensive Pouilley Fume for the same price. Over all its a great place to eat whether it be a casual lunch, a business meeting or a romantic al fresco treat. read more

Fantastic food and the wine is beautiful, it felt wrong sitting down at a restaurant whilst in borough market, but I'm glad I did! Two starters and a glass of French wine ended up at £20 which I thought was reasonable, but 20% service charge meant I didn't bother with a tip. read more

Perhaps it was because I went in to my trip thinking that London would be expensive, I didn't have the same reaction to the price that many of the reviewers here have. Maybe there are better places in the city to get fish and chips at a better price, but as a tourist, there's no way I would know where they are. I got the catch of the day and it was exactly what I came looking for - fish was cooked nicely, the batter was seasoned well, and the chips were hot and crispy. It was very good! Fish was fresh but the batter lack flavor a little to subtle for my taste and the abundance of tourists hoarding the condiment bar didn't help, since I wanted to add some vinegar to my fish. Came across Fish!, National champion of Fish and Chips, fancy kitchen in the middle of the restaurant, chic, stylish and friendly staffs. Fish & chips and set dinner menu £25 for sardine on toast; while lemon sole with hollandaise, finish with apple crumble, feels like a bargain. Thick piece of cod wrapped with crispy batter, no point describing how good it is, it is a winner! The grill lemon sole is fresh and that's probably all I can say to that, hollandaise was surprisingly lack of flavor, imo. 4 is fair I think! read more

To be honest, the fish and chips is quite ordinary. However, that is sometimes the best way to have it. Deep fried fish plus some crunchy fries really hit the spot when you're hungry. My advice is not to eat it for dinner as it's heavy and not so healthy. Well, eat it once a week and you'll be fine. What a lot of these reviews fail to mention is that there is the posh restaurant section where you need to shell out 15 quid a fish and chips meal, but there is also a outdoor stand with about 4 seats outside or for takeway. The fish and chips in a box is about 7.50 which by most fish and chip stands is above average in price, but I can definitely say that its one of the best fish I've had at a stand. Fish! Is located in the heart of Borough Market, just near London Bridge station. I've been here a couple of times and the food has been really great: the fish is super-fresh and tasty, fairly reasonable priced,and the staff are always really nice. Good wine list, beers and spirits, great decor and a really easy-to-follow menu. You can choose the way your fish is cooked, and Fish! boasts the best mushy peas around. I had my first-ever Fish Pie here and I LOVED it, plus the servings are really decent (I couldn't finish my Pie and that is very unusual for me!) read more

i would like to give this place another chance but sadly, i was only visiting London for a week and only had one chance to come here. My friend and I stopped in to grab a quick snack to share and ordered the fried calamari. While it was well seasoned, I pretty much was chewing on sand with every single bite. That's pretty much the worse thing EVER! Even still, i'm giving it more than one star because the seasoning on the calamari (minus the sand) was pretty delicious. read more

Just had lunch here today and enjoyed it a great deal, even though it was quite pricey. It was chilly and raining and I didn't have a reservation, but even though I showed up at the height of the lunch rush the hostess was very gracious and managed to find me a seat at the counter. That was great because watching the cooks on the line was excellent entertainment. The food was equally excellent. I had fish (cod) & chips with mushy peas. A huge, crispy, freshly-fried piece of fish occupied half of the plate, while excellent chips occupied most of the other half. Flavorful, hot, and fresh. What more could you want? Go here one in a while to catch up with friends the fish is the best quality you can get in London. I had Calamari with rocket and lemon mayo, and the lobster with chips as a main which was pricey but worth every penny. Had a little trouble making a reservation on line but called and they got us in. Once there had a lovely meal with the house soup (bisque) then I had a great lobster grilled to perfection. The server must have known I was an American because he didn't bristle or roll his eyes when I asked for ice water. He provided a generous supply of ice and water. My partner had a lovely cooked to perfection sole that he loves. We were pleased with the attentiveness and pace of service and enjoyed our server. Will be back read more

I was really shocked that this place got good reviews. In my opinion, it is overpriced tourist trap in the borough market. We went here after we were too late for breakfast in near by Las Brindisa thinking we are ok for the breakfast here. In addition, we got enticed by the cozy seating in their terrace especially on a sunny Saturday in London, so we decided to give it a try. Ohhh boy, big mistake! We had the calamares salad and found 9 pathetic medium size rings over rockets leaves and ok sauce for £9.99? Really? The fish soup I ordered was lacking flavour and meat. It was mostly like waterdown fish broth that was not worth £6.99 a bowl. Nothing else was really worth ordering especially the £16 fish and chips! Outrageous!! Obviously the innocent tourists, who do not know any better are willing to pay for such hefty price. I hope they are really good but after the disappointing appetizers, I think not. This place was great! The selection was just incredible and the waiter was great. I had the swordfish club sandwich which was bigger than my head (and a great deal more delicious I'd wager). We went to fish! right when it opened so we were the first and only people there for the majority of our meal. It is a beautiful restaurant and very clean. The hostess and our server were very polite, although when we asked for a recommendation our server said he did not like the cod, which we got anyway and it was delicious. Came here for dinner and even though we had reservations at 5:30 and showed up at 6pm, we didn't need it. They had lots of empty tables. The one we went to was under Borough Bridge. We ordered the fried calamari for appetizer and for our main dishes, we ordered steamed Sea Bream and steamed Line caught wild sea bass (bass is from Spain). The fried calamari was lightly fried and I thought the sauce was okay but the calamari was rubbery and that should not be the case for a seafood restaurant. I originally was going to order the Sea bass from Canada, but changed my mind. We ordered the fish steamed because I thought it was the best way to test out the product and let the product speak for itself. I do not think beer battering the fish and frying it does the fish any justice. I had sea bass with the herb and butter sauce and my wife had the Sea Bream with the salsa verde sauce. In terms of how the fish were cooked, they were cooked perfectly. The meat flaked right off. Despite that, everything else was a subpar. I had 5 fish bones in my fish. That's unacceptable for a place that specializes in fish. I did try my fish with a little of the butter sauce, but I thought it made the fish too buttery and overpowered the product. The salsa verde sauce did match the Sea Bream but it didn't elevate the dish to a new level. The presentation sucked. I could have gotten the same presentation and quality of food for a lot less money at Redondo Beach in the States. Because this place was more on the pricy side, I thought the meal and presentation would have been more elegant and flavorful. The vegetables on the side were not seasoned and just steamed, just soggy vegetables. The service was excellent at the beginning, but deteriorated towards the end of the meal. My glass of water was never re-filled and our waiter never even paid attention to it. I didn't bother asking him to re-fill it to see if he would ever notice throughout the meal, he never did. That's just terrible. As other reviewers have mentioned, the 12.5% discretion fee is not a discretion fee, it's a mandatory fee. I came here with a party of 2 and they still charged me that fee. Hence for future reference, this fee is mandatory. I don't mind paying the fee because they do list it at the bottom right corner of their menu, but my waiter did absolutely nothing!! I would never come back to this place and I do not recommend this place for anyone. STAY AWAY!! read more
