Was given a 20-25 min wait time and was seated in 15. The food was great. I had the fried shrimp and my daughters had the cheeseburger and fried fish meal. All were excellent. We also tried the cauliflower appetizer which was perfect because it was light. Was very tasty. The view out the windows are like paintings. Fish House is in a unique position because it has a prime spot on the beach with the "best sunsets." Wait lists can get long --I heard upwards of 90 mins around 6:30p. They turnaround tables pretty fast and camping out to see the sunset when they are really busy, or if you are not a larger group that's actively consuming won't likely be possible. They don't do reservations and they try to limit seating to 90 mins (per their menu). At the end of the day, it's all about having a little luck. I arrived around 5p and was told it was the best time before they got crazy busy. As a solo diner, I was offered one of the highly coveted bar seats directly facing the beach. However, the sun was unbearable and sadly I could not swing it. I ended up grabbing a seat in their main outdoor area. It was still hot but partially shaded. I couldn't see the beach but the relaxed vibes in the sand were very nice. I ordered the fried shrimp and fries, and at first glance was disappointed. It was more like fries with a side of shrimp. There were five shrimp total and felt skimpy for an entree. The seasonal slaw had zero seasoning and needed a lot of something to be a slaw. Skinny fries were actually good and nicely salted. Food was a 3.5, ambiance was a 5. Ultimately I was full when I finished my meal and forgot all about how I felt like someone robbed me of a shrimp or two. After my 50 min dining experience, I hopped over to their hidden bar side patio where seating is also first come first served. They had upbeat music and a sweet set up. Bartender was nice and effective. I enjoyed my margarita. Sat there unbothered for about an hour enjoying the tunes and people watching and forgot I was in Jersey. Definitely recommend for drinks before or after. As it got later I saw more people drop in as they waited for their tables. Pro tip- they can also do light appetizers at the hidden bar. I took a few steps to the beach right around the 7p Monday flag ceremony and stayed for sunset. This was our first time visiting The Fish House, and we had a great experience! We arrived around 4:45 PM hoping to beat the rush since we know it's a popular spot. We only waited about 15 minutes to be seated. The parking lot fills up quickly, so my husband parked on the street, which is pretty normal for Sunset Beach and something we expected. We sat outside with the tables right in the sand, which is a beautiful setting but something to consider if you're visiting with little kids. Our waiter Robbie was one of the sweetest people we've ever interacted with. He's truly a gem--so attentive and always one step ahead of what we needed. We ordered a few different entrées to share along with cocktails, and everything was delicious. The spicy margarita was one of the best I've ever had! This place screams "summer"! We stopped in for cocktails mid-afternoon on a June Saturday. We were fortunate enough to land 4 bar seats. The open-air environment was delightful! Ocean breezes and the fantastic smell of salty air. My friend and I ordered Aperol Spritz's while our guys ordered a Zest Lemonade and a Hugo's Garden. All cocktails were well-balanced and refreshing. Our bartender was SO SWEET! I wish I caught her name. She was an absolute doll and made our experience that much better. We didn't order any food, as we had dinner reservations elsewhere a couple of hours later. Their bathroom is one of those bougie porta-potties with running water and a true sink. There's only ONE thing that pissed me off here, and I'll blame the employee, not the establishment. I'll save that for last because, more importantly, this place is fantastic for breakfast or lunch. We arrived around 1:45pm, waited about 30 minutes and were sat shortly before 2:30pm. Had to order in a hurry if we wanted breakfast. I got a Goat Cheese Salad that was FANTASTIC. Wife ordered Beet Salad with pepitas (pumpkin seeds) that was boring, so I got a side of warm goat cheese for her and that made it better. Daughter got the Lobster Grilled Cheese. I liked it but she felt it was a little boring... I think maybe the bread was too thick for the amount of lobster on the sandwich. For my main, I had the Fish Reuben. It was spectacular. My daughter liked it more than her grilled cheese... it was great. Dessert was the Blueberry Lemon Cheese Cake, which I saw a great looking picture of here on Yelp. Man, that blew us away. I got a Lychee Martini drink from the menu... two whole leechee in there. It was good but I think a little heavy on the sour mix. Not worth $22. We were super lucky that it was nice outside and I so appreciated the umbrella. The waiter was really good. Asfor the hostess that led us to the outside table... she showed me to one with some shade, and she was thinking that maybe they could move the table, which would have been great. Instead, she showed me to a table in the back of that area. She noticed a black thing on the tablecloth that she tried to brush off, but it only moved... she left it alone. She walked away, and I saw the black thing and thought it was a piece of fuzz. When I flicked it, it was moist and some stuck to my finger... which immediately told me it was BIRD SHIT. I told them about it and thankfully they changed the table cloth as I went to wash my hands. Regardless, I would definitely return. read more

Visited this spot in August 2025 for a bachelorette party and this was such a lovely spot to kick off the weekend. A friend recommended this location because it was on the water and supposedly had great views. Well, she was not wrong! We planned to enjoy dinner there at sunset, and it was absolutely stunning. You can even see a shipwreck in the water from the restaurant. The food was delicious and the outdoor bar overlooking the water was definitely popular! It was packed. I recall having a refreshing, bubbly, berry libation. So tasty and beautifully decorated with fruit and a pearl skewer on top. My only constructive criticism is that this place is very busy and the wait time can be quite long. You may consider sending one person from your party there a bit earlier to wait for a table, because it can be up to an hour wait during peak times. (Not a spot to head to if you are very hungry and need to eat ASAP!) Aside from having to wait about 45 minutes to be seated, this place is a gem. This is my second year coming back to fish house. If it wasn't for the atmosphere and yummy food this would be a skip for us. Both years we arrived on a week day before 6pm and the wait time was an hour and half for 4-5 people. Though there is a gift shop (which has a bathroom if you need to go) I recommend bringing a beach chair and relaxing. Or sending a member of your group to take one for the team and wait it out. They use the site Toast to see your spot in line. Now food wise could not recommend the cauliflower more. The crispy potatoes were good but could use more aioli and salt. The only food left on our plate was the lobster grilled cheese. Too soggy and wouldn't really call it a grilled cheese. The fries were utterly delicious and we ate them all. For drinks crowd favorite was Hugo's Garden and Sunset Spritz. Wear shoes you don't mind getting a little sandy cause some of the tables rest on a bed of sand. There is truly no bad view no matter where they sit you. There is a 90 min seating limit to accommodate all the guests but after waiting so long for a table you don't need more than that. read more

Questioned the hostess, who said they agreed to sit at a table outside with no umbrella, an option not offered to us btw. Also, stated it was someone above her who made the decision to seat them. A few minutes later we get a text saying an outside table is available but no umbrella. We got seated outside and the first thing the waiter does is ask us if we want the umbrella up. More importantly, the food was not great considering the price and that it is a fish house. Blackened tuna sandwich contained a thin piece of tuna that was just ok. Would not return. We went to the Fish House on opening day. I grew up going to the Sunset Grill at Cape May Point and knew that no matter what I would miss that special place. Despite missing the simplicity of Sunset Grill and getting $7 chicken tenders while watching the waves... it seems that all good things must come to an end. We can all sense that Cape May is becoming more "upscale" and the Zest Group has done a good job taking tried and true favorites that might be a bit dusty and making them into more upscale establishments. We had a wonderful experience while eating at the fish House off-season and midweek. I imagine that, since it is small that it can get really crowded during busy times. Our wait staff was wonderful and I'm sorry, but I can't remember her name. What a wonderful setting, right on Sunset Beach. You're looking out of an open space that looks like you're in a painting. There are heating elements throughout on the ceiling which keep the restaurant fairly warm even though it is open air. I imagine in cooler weather they close all the flaps. I was disappointed that they didn't have soup of the day, but I did order a wonderful salad and added a crabcake. Fresh and delicious. Plenty of beers on tap as well as a full bar. Every once in a while a new place opens that is a complete revelation. This used to be a beach snack shop, totally remade into a limited menu, family-oriented fine dining restaurant. The food is great--the best in Cape May! We had the fried fish dinner, crab cake sandwich, a salad, grilled cheese sandwich, potato fingerling appetizer, and shrimp appetizer. All fantastic. Even better than the food is the location. All seating is outside, with open views of the Cape May Point beach, the sunset, and the concrete ship. So beautiful and iconic.
