There's only ONE thing that pissed me off here, and I'll blame the employee, not the establishment. I'll save that for last because, more importantly, this place is fantastic for breakfast or lunch. We arrived around 1:45pm, waited about 30 minutes and were sat shortly before 2:30pm. Had to order in a hurry if we wanted breakfast. I got a Goat Cheese Salad that was FANTASTIC. Wife ordered Beet Salad with pepitas (pumpkin seeds) that was boring, so I got a side of warm goat cheese for her and that made it better. Daughter got the Lobster Grilled Cheese. I liked it but she felt it was a little boring... I think maybe the bread was too thick for the amount of lobster on the sandwich. For my main, I had the Fish Reuben. It was spectacular. My daughter liked it more than her grilled cheese... it was great. Dessert was the Blueberry Lemon Cheese Cake, which I saw a great looking picture of here on Yelp. Man, that blew us away. I got a Lychee Martini drink from the menu... two whole leechee in there. It was good but I think a little heavy on the sour mix. Not worth $22. We were super lucky that it was nice outside and I so appreciated the umbrella. The waiter was really good. Asfor the hostess that led us to the outside table... she showed me to one with some shade, and she was thinking that maybe they could move the table, which would have been great. Instead, she showed me to a table in the back of that area. She noticed a black thing on the tablecloth that she tried to brush off, but it only moved... she left it alone. She walked away, and I saw the black thing and thought it was a piece of fuzz. When I flicked it, it was moist and some stuck to my finger... which immediately told me it was BIRD SHIT. I told them about it and thankfully they changed the table cloth as I went to wash my hands. Regardless, I would definitely return. read more

This is my second year coming back to fish house. If it wasn't for the atmosphere and yummy food this would be a skip for us. Both years we arrived on a week day before 6pm and the wait time was an hour and half for 4-5 people. Though there is a gift shop (which has a bathroom if you need to go) I recommend bringing a beach chair and relaxing. Or sending a member of your group to take one for the team and wait it out. They use the site Toast to see your spot in line. Now food wise could not recommend the cauliflower more. The crispy potatoes were good but could use more aioli and salt. The only food left on our plate was the lobster grilled cheese. Too soggy and wouldn't really call it a grilled cheese. The fries were utterly delicious and we ate them all. For drinks crowd favorite was Hugo's Garden and Sunset Spritz. Wear shoes you don't mind getting a little sandy cause some of the tables rest on a bed of sand. There is truly no bad view no matter where they sit you. There is a 90 min seating limit to accommodate all the guests but after waiting so long for a table you don't need more than that. read more

This was our first time visiting The Fish House, and we had a great experience! We arrived around 4:45 PM hoping to beat the rush since we know it's a popular spot. We only waited about 15 minutes to be seated. The parking lot fills up quickly, so my husband parked on the street, which is pretty normal for Sunset Beach and something we expected. We sat outside with the tables right in the sand, which is a beautiful setting but something to consider if you're visiting with little kids. Our waiter Robbie was one of the sweetest people we've ever interacted with. He's truly a gem--so attentive and always one step ahead of what we needed. We ordered a few different entrées to share along with cocktails, and everything was delicious. The spicy margarita was one of the best I've ever had! This place screams "summer"! We stopped in for cocktails mid-afternoon on a June Saturday. We were fortunate enough to land 4 bar seats. The open-air environment was delightful! Ocean breezes and the fantastic smell of salty air. My friend and I ordered Aperol Spritz's while our guys ordered a Zest Lemonade and a Hugo's Garden. All cocktails were well-balanced and refreshing. Our bartender was SO SWEET! I wish I caught her name. She was an absolute doll and made our experience that much better. We didn't order any food, as we had dinner reservations elsewhere a couple of hours later. Their bathroom is one of those bougie porta-potties with running water and a true sink. Visited this spot in August 2025 for a bachelorette party and this was such a lovely spot to kick off the weekend. A friend recommended this location because it was on the water and supposedly had great views. Well, she was not wrong! We planned to enjoy dinner there at sunset, and it was absolutely stunning. You can even see a shipwreck in the water from the restaurant. The food was delicious and the outdoor bar overlooking the water was definitely popular! It was packed. I recall having a refreshing, bubbly, berry libation. So tasty and beautifully decorated with fruit and a pearl skewer on top. My only constructive criticism is that this place is very busy and the wait time can be quite long. You may consider sending one person from your party there a bit earlier to wait for a table, because it can be up to an hour wait during peak times. (Not a spot to head to if you are very hungry and need to eat ASAP!) Aside from having to wait about 45 minutes to be seated, this place is a gem. We had a wonderful experience while eating at the fish House off-season and midweek. I imagine that, since it is small that it can get really crowded during busy times. Our wait staff was wonderful and I'm sorry, but I can't remember her name. What a wonderful setting, right on Sunset Beach. You're looking out of an open space that looks like you're in a painting. There are heating elements throughout on the ceiling which keep the restaurant fairly warm even though it is open air. I imagine in cooler weather they close all the flaps. I was disappointed that they didn't have soup of the day, but I did order a wonderful salad and added a crabcake. Fresh and delicious. Plenty of beers on tap as well as a full bar. I'd heard great things about The Fish House and was excited to try it, but overall it was just okay. The menu felt a bit limited, although they do offer some gluten-free options, including GF bread. Our server was amazing--truly the best part of the experience. We ordered espresso martinis, which were good but a little small for $16. We stumbled upon fish house and are so happy we decided to stay and eat! The space inside is beautiful with an amazing view of the water. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. To drink, I loved the passion fruit margarita. It was perfectly sweet and refreshing. For two people, it was more than filling to share three small plates. We had the day boat scallops, the crispy potatoes, and the chili garlic shrimp. Each one was amazing, but the scallops were our favorite! Definitely a solid place to dine in Cape May. I recommend coming for a late lunch or early dinner since Sunset Beach parking is a nightmare once it starts to get a little later in the day. My husband ordered a lobster roll and the chili shrimp appetizer, which he said was not as flavorful as he would've hoped but still very good. My chicken avocado sandwich was gigantic, as well as very delicious and the garlic aioli was a 10/10. The only downside was, because of the structure of the restaurant and there not being a specific place to wait for your table outside of the main dining area, we kept noticing people just randomly standing around or waiting in the little alcoves behind some of the tables. We watched as the table next to us kept getting interrupted by an entire family of 8 (I wish I was exaggerating) that kept going back and forth from the alcove to standing around in the main dining area. One woman in particular kept having to move her chair back and forth to avoid getting hit, which I can only imagine was even more distracting for her as it was for us. Similarly, there was a family waiting for their takeout order standing directly behind my husband's chair, to the point of genuinely almost breathing on him, which made us a little uncomfortable. All in all, though, I would still say that the food and service make this a place worth visiting if we're ever in the area and I do recommend it. read more

They do not take reservations which for such a tiny, popular restaurant during peak summer season they should. They are located near almost nothing else in Cape May! So you take an uber out there for ($20-$30) ask for a table for two, get told it's going to be 2 hours and 15 minutes at least before you get a table. Have no where else to go nearby to kill time, so you take another ($20-$30) Uber back to the heart of Cape May to look for dinner elsewhere. Lucky for us, we had a lovely meal at The Blue Pig Tavern that accommodated our table for two without pause! The food is great--the best in Cape May! We had the fried fish dinner, crab cake sandwich, a salad, grilled cheese sandwich, potato fingerling appetizer, and shrimp appetizer. All fantastic. Even better than the food is the location. All seating is outside, with open views of the Cape May Point beach, the sunset, and the concrete ship. So beautiful and iconic. My first instinct driving up to this restaurant on Sunset beach was, "This is a tourist trap. Leave now." But then I thought, "My fellow yelpers won't let me down. They rated it a solid 4.1 stars. It must be good". So we stayed. Well, this is yet another example of your first thought being the correct one. First off, let me say the restaurant has great ambience - right on the beach with a full sunset view. Service was also very good. The food and drink? Not so much. It started with the drinks. My wife and kids each got a mixed drink for $16 a piece. It was served in a small glass with a huge clear ice cube. It looked cool, but left maybe 2 or 3 tablespoons of actual drink to fit in the glass. Appetizers were a huge disappointment. I should have been wary when the smoked fish dip menu listing didn't mention what kind of fish it was. Now I know why. I believe it was a can of tuna. If it wasn't, it surely tasted like it. Speaking of problems with the menu, the crispy potatoes were misnamed. They should have been called soggy potatoes. There was nothing crispy about them at all. My wife and I also shared the little gem salad. I can't comment on that because, at least for this evening, my dear, beloved wife's definition of splitting a salad 50/50 is that she gets 40% of the lettuce and 100% of the toppings while I get the leftover 60% lettuce and no toppings. As I looked longingly at her succulent bacon bits and apple slices, it looked like she may have been enjoying her half. Luckily the main course was better. The lobster was good. It was expensive, but at least it had a decent amount of lobster. The lobster grilled cheese was equally expensive, but had probably half the amount of lobster. Fortunately the lobster that was there was tasty. The highlight of the meal may have been the fish sandwich. A nice fried piece of flounder with French fries. Yummy. All in all, a nearly $250 meal that was OK. A tourist trap? You be the judge. read more

They do not take reservations online but if you have 4 or less in your party sit at the bar and grab a seat you can order and have food at the bar. Try the lobster grilled cheese and try the scrimp. Excellent views and the staff is knowledgeable and efficient. Definitely try this place out if you're in Cape May. This was the one spot that came highly recommended by two other people, so we knew that we needed to experience it. I'm so glad that we didn't get scared off by the very busy crowd we came upon with a 2.5 hour wait time... we honestly stayed because there are things that you can do to kill the time.. grab a drink (or two) from the bar, hang out on the beach, etc. Which is what we did for the hour and a half to two hour wait that seemed to fly by. The bartender was very friendly, and really knew how to handle a crowd under pressure. The Hugo Spritz's were well balanced and tasty.. The sunset.. wow. I've never seen anything like it, seriously. It was so magical, that it ended up being the highlight of our weekend trip. We were able to capture so many beautiful pics. Amazing. It seemed as though we were seated right at the tail end of it, which was perfect. Ala was our very friendly server... pleasant and efficient. The food was really tasty. We enjoyed our lobster rolls (served cold).. so buttery and rich.. perfectly seasoned. I haven't had many, but this one was memorable. The smoked fish dip that we ordered to share, was tasty enough. Different, but not bad. My mom's fried shrimp were really decent. Loved the very crispy, well seasoned French fries. My daughter inhaled her Sunset Burger and said it was delicious. We didn't have time for dessert, but the whole experience was really sweet. Wow wow wow! We were expecting a wait but so glad there wasn't one due to visiting during off season and also going for lunch vs dinner. The views from this restaurant was an absolute dream. We ordered a few items off their snacks list, Shrimp, Scallop and Cauliflower and we enjoyed every morsel. The mint berry lemonade cocktail their take on a bramble and it probably could have been more muddled for stronger fruit flavor. Our server Andres was very sweet and they let us move from a table to the counter for the ocean view. 10/10! read more

Unfortunately, the Fish House doesn't take reservations, so on a Monday night in September, we ended up waiting about an hour. Fortunately, they were able to text us when our table was ready. We were supposed to be seated on the side patio but asked for a table on the sand next to one of the fire pits which kept us warm as it was somewhat windy. Fish House is all about the location. They're literally on the beach. However, the menu is small with no additional specials, and the food is just okay. We shared their goat cheese salad which was well seasoned and not stingy on the dressing. When the salad came out, I was told they had run out of Chardonnay so I substituted for a different wine which wasn't as good. Halfway through our salad, my husband was told they ran out of the wine he wanted. He had a hard time finding a substitute. I'm not sure how a restaurant runs out of wine? My cold lobster roll, with a salad rather than fries, was flavorful. However, my husband said his chicken avocado sandwich was hard to eat. It was piled high, which is good, but the bread was hard. He wasn't a fan. We decided to skip dessert for Kohr Brothers' pumpkin soft serve. Keep in mind, they charge a 2.5% credit card surcharge which we were not happy about. read more
