What a great place! I just ate there on Monday with a group of over 30 people. You may notice that on their schedule Monday is not a typical day of operation. Well, the fine folks at Fish Bones actually opened the restaurant specifically for us. Obviously there was pre-planning involved but it was still very nice of them to open the restaurant on a day they aren't typically open. We started the night at 6:30 with hors d'oeuvores being passed out and a cheese/cracker platter siting on the bar. Their lobster rangoons are ridiculously good! At around 7:15 we all sat down to order from a set menu. Appetizers: Clam Chowder or Garden Salad Main course: Beef Wellington, Rosemary Chicken, Haddock stuffed with lobster, and a vegetarian dish Dessert: Strawberry and amaretto white cake or a chocolate dipped fudge cake I had the clam chowder, chicken, and strawberries on white cake. Everything was FANTASTIC! After eating all of those hors d'oeuvores (I'll be honest I must have put down at least 2 lbs of the rangoons) the portion sizes were perfect. The size of the chowder bowl was about one cup, the chicken was about a 1/4 pound piece on top of about half a cup of rice pilaf, and the cake was about a 4 inch square with 5 whole strawberries and a 1 oz shot of amaretto. Now, my wife thinks I have a tape worm with the amount of food that I eat so I'd have to say without the 2lbs of rangoon I probably would have left unsatisfied with the meal size. Now that the important stuff is out of the way...the atmosphere was a little small. Although the restaurant is pretty open with a high ceiling it is by no means a LARGE restaurant. I don't know how crowded it gets but I can imagine that it would get a bit crowded on the weekend so call ahead to make a reservation. The waitresses and bartenders were all fantastic and more than accommodating. It was a full bar and coming from the Boston area the drinks were CHEAP. I'm not in Lewiston very much but the next time I go to Freeport, ME I WILL drive the extra 30 min to get to Fish Bones. read more

As the only fine dining restaurant in Lewiston, I find myself here often for work dinners. Unfortunately, I get sick about half the time I eat at Fish Bones. I have a seafood allergy and I thought it was from cross contamination, but speaking with colleagues this is apparently a common experience. I wish Lewiston had more options! I miss Fuel. read more

Took the wife here for a date night. Upon entry we were happily greeted and seated immediately. Restaurant is spacious and clean yet has nice seating for couples who want privacy. Waitress was pleasant and took our drink and apps order. Food was top notch and my tuna steak was cooked perfectly. Our party of 10 headed to Fish Bones to celebrate a birthday and for my family to spend time with my in-laws from Germany. As we waited for the entire party to arrive, our waiter introduced himself and took a drink order. He had the coolest accent (Polish) and demeanor. Once everyone had arrived, we were seated at our table near the open kitchen. Awesome table! Everyone tried different drinks and appetizers - all excellent. We had oysters, lobster Rangoon flat bread pizza and calamari. My meal was really good, which was salmon and mussels in the shell. My dad had the ribeye steak, and he loved it. Loved this place. On a Wednesday night, wicked busy. Our table was not ready so we found one in the bar. Was thinking we would stay there but then they came and got us. We were seated in the the smaller if two dining rooms. Quieter nice area, beautiful beams. Great waiter. Goat cheese and strawberry salad to start. Wonderful. Awesome seared tuna with Asian slaw and Jasmine rice. An amazing Salmon dish, and one haddoc dish. All wonderfully perfect. Creme brulee and key lime pie for deserts. $100 per couple including drinks and tip. A little pricey but worth the value. read more

I've been here twice: the first was for lunch. I ordered the chowder and it was delicious, and my entree was baked haddock which was overcooked and dried out. The service was great, but the meal was underwhelming. The second time I was here for dinner, I ordered the scallops which come with pork belly. The pork belly was dry and the scallops were okay, the flavors came together well and the sauce was great. The calamari and lobster rangoon were super good, but the crab fondue fell flat for me. I will probably give this restaurant another try in the near future and will update. The atmosphere was great and there were lots of beers to choose from. read more

Food is decent. Drinks are good. Clean and pleasant atmosphere. It can get very busy especially if there are many things happening at Bates; so I would definitely recommend a reservation on the weekend . read more

It is so nice to finally have a good place to eat in L/A. Fish Bones is a gorgeous renovated brick building with nice ambience. It can be noisy with no fabric to absorb sound. The menu is good but I would like to see them freshen it up with some new flavors, how about shrimp and grits with rotating preparations? My haddock was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. First Look: The interior of Fish Bone is clean, uncluttered and comfortable. The hostess seated us immediately and was very polite. The waiter was excellent; he was able to answer every question that was asked about the menu and the bar selection, offered suggestions for dinner and dessert and was generally superb. The Food: I started off with several appetizers: the lobster Rangoon which was awesome, the oysters, which in my opinion we're a little gritty but I'm not a huge fan of oysters in any case, the calamari was the best calamari I've ever had from anywhere, they were tender and flavorful and just amazing. The bread basket was great with three different kinds of bread. The Caesar salad was also pretty great. Anyway the entrée was definitely a star. I got the special for the night which was a lobster dinner which included a pound of lobster, red potatoes, asparagus, mussels, and clam chowder all of which were fantastic. The lobster was tender and flavorful, the potatoes could have used a little salt, the mussels a little less garlic, the asparagus, which normally I loathe, was great, and the chowder left me speechless. I finished up with some pumpkin cremé brulee, which was a perfect way to finish the meal. The Verdict: Without a doubt Fish Bone is the seafood restaurant of choice in Auburn and probably the surrounding 15 or 20 miles. If you're looking for lobster, haddock, or any other seafood, hit this place as soon as you can. read more

Stop this nonsense. I am sure that, in Lewiston, Maine, this passes for fine dining. I did not grow up in Lewiston, but grew up in a similar town which, like Lewiston, plays second fiddle to other towns. The need to have something special in a second rate town causes people to overvalue the good things that they have in that town. Fish Bones is a good example of that phenomenon. Sorry, folks, it's nothing special. You could get the same satisfaction from eating a meal at a well-run Ruby Tuesday's. Among other things, a place that gives you a beer bottle and only after serving asks you if you want a glass is not ready for the big screen. The salad had old iceberg lettuce. I stopped eating my entree' because I was rather sure that if I ate the whole gooey thing I would be sick. I'm sure this is great for Lewiston, but it's nothing to be proud of. read more

Never disappointed by Fishbones! One of my favorite lunch spots in the LA area. French onion soup...excellent, coffee...what it should be, fig bleu cheese flatbread...amazeballs! Fishbones spiffs up the Dirty Lew just a bit and renews our faith in the potential of the mid-state, urban scene. Don't reserve this restaurant for occasional dinners. Come in and check out their fabulous lunch menu. The quality, flavors, and prices will make you a frequent lunch flyer. *Special note* Kudos to the seating hostess who clearly has her act together! Not only did she seat us, got our waters poured whilst we were waiting for our waitress, but she also ran interference for us to help alleviate kitchen/waitstaff congestion. My grandmother died last September, and after her funeral a group of 12 of us went to Fish Bones to have dinner, to celebrate my grandmother. Maybe it was the fact that the 12 of us hadn't sat at a table together since my grandfather died, but we had great conversations. They sat us in a corner and let us be, but we had great service - always showing up when we wanted it, but more or less letting us flow. We got drinks promptly, and food arrived at the right time. Everything tasted great and was cooked well, and the atmosphere was cozy without being claustrophobic - interesting because the place was fairly open. read more

We arrived at Fish Bones for a mid-afternoon lunch on Veterans Day, and were in before 3:00 pm. The ambiance of Fish Bones is classy-casual, with the exposed bricks and beams of the 19th-century mill that it occupies looking elegantly historic. Fish and seafood are featured on the menu, of course, but it's worth noting that the place does *not* come across as a Maine Fish Restaurant such as you would find on mid-coastal Route 1 -- and that's a good thing. We started with the Ahi Tuna Crisps, which are cubes of raw yellowfin tuna, well seasoned and served with vegetables on four fried wonton triangles. We ordered them dairy-free, which meant no "cusabi" (that's wasabi cream, btw) on them and we didn't miss it at all; the honey-ginger sauce was enough to make them refreshing and tasty. For her main dish, my mom ordered the seafood Mixed Grill, which came with one seared/blackened sea scallop, one jumbo shrimp (these two skewered), and a generously sized haddock filet. Again, she ordered dairy-free and didn't miss the lobster crema that they come with. The haddock filet was "cooked perfectly," says Mom, and the shrimp and scallop were "al dente" (heads up!) which is just the way she prefers. The seafood was served with Brussels sprouts and mashed potato (homemade, with skins). Both the side dishes were lukewarm, which Mom didn't mind and thought was intentional, but I was not so sure (?). I had the Wild-Caught Haddock Sandwich: a very large and delicious beer-battered haddock fillet on a brioche bun with greens, onions, shredded cheese, and other goodies. It was quite delicious! The "Penobscot fries" on the side deserve a special note: they are a thinner, crispier, and far superior alternative to steak fries. Really excellent. All in all, Fish Bones served us a well-prepared and affordable lunch (neither lunch entree was over $13). We'll be back again to this mid-upscale restaurant that adds variety to the LA dining scene. read more

Fish Bones American Grill was a really nice surprise. I went there with some friends last weekend and the decor was classy, the restaurant was located in an old renovated mill and it was beautiful. I had a dirty martini that was fabulous and my friend got a crocodile? I think? Maybe an alligator? One of the two. It was an unlikely mix of 4 different types of alcohol, but it looked beautiful and she said it tasted really good. I ordered the pan seared tuna on a bed of sauteed veggies and rice. It was delicious. This place isn't cheap, but if you want to treat yourself or take someone out to impress, take them to Fish Bones. read more

I have never had a bad meal at Fishbones, and sometimes I have had excellent food. This place is especially good for Maine Restaurant Week. Make sure to try the Lobster Rangoons. They are so sweet they could be dessert. The challenge I have is that sometimes the menu is a little limited, and if you don't want seafood that evening it is pretty hard to find something to eat. Once we just ordered a glass of wine and appetizer and went elsewhere for dinner. If you are a seafood lover, this is a terrific place. If not take your chance during MRW when you can see the menu online. read more

We went to Fish bones for dinner Saturday and really enjoyed it. The NCAA hockey tournament was in town so they were slammed. I have to say, the service didn't suffer. It was quick and friendly and he offered some nice recommendations. I had the Seafood Pomodoro Papardelle: lobster, mussels, scallops, tiger shrimp, and white fish in a tomato Parmesan sauce over pasta. It was very nicely done. Each of the seafood items were properly cooked and tasty. My wife had the toasted sea scallops and really enjoyed them. I really like the atmosphere and am pleased to see that they have put the old mill to good use. We'll be back the next time we're in Lewiston. read more

I have wanted to try Fishbones for a very long time. I finally moved to the area and took the opportunity to endulge in some delicious lunch. That is what it was. From the greet to the bartender Quinn. Everything was great. I had lobster bisque, could have had more chunks of lobster, (doesn't everyone say that, so just ignore it). Tuna crisps, reccomened by Quinn after i asked that or the lobster ragoons. They came out so quick and were tasty. The whole lunch menu looked quite appetizing and so I will def be back and hopefully with some friends so i can experience the patio or dining room. read more

Wow the food here was amazing I started off with the fisherman's soup and my hubby had the pear salad. Really nice portion sizes! I came here on a Wed for lunch with two co-workers. I am visiting from California on a work trip and was excited to try a lobster roll. My co-worker said, "A good lobster roll has very little dressing, so you can taste the lobster." I ordered the lobster roll and asked for very little dressing. The waitress said it is pre-prepared and the amount of dressing can't be changed, but she'll hold the mayo. Sounds good to me. . . I noticed right away that there was way too much dressing. I couldn't even imagine what it would be like with the extra mayo. There was TOOOOOOOO much dressing. The sandwich is small and it's very hard to eat. There's a cut out in a small loaf like bread. A bed of lettuce with the lobster on top of it. I looked and tried at every angle to get a first perfect bite - this was my first lobster roll ever. I ended up eating 1/2 the bread, all the lobster. It was not that great. I would not recommend. I will not return and am disappointed. I looked at other lobster roll pictures (from other high Yelped restaurants) and they are not overdressed like this one. No bueno! read more

We love the food at Fishbones and generally everything has been pretty much perfect. We do takeout. Tonight they must be busy; while our order slip clearly says substitute fries for potato we have potatoes! However we have never been given bread and tonight included bread. read more

We moved to the area two years ago. Fish Bones Grill haws a nice atmosphere, but the quality and flavor of the food could certainly be improved. Of equal importance, FBG should offer more healthy options (it is the 21st century, after all). We tend to avoid FBG in general but hope their menu and quality changes for the better so we can give this local restaurant our business. read more

Crispy calamari and lobster Rangoon are outstanding appetizer choices. Service is prompt with a smile. Drinks do not skimp on the alcohol. The fresh baked crusty white bread and zucchini bread served with whipped butter in a wrought iron basket is a delicious and rustic touch to any meal. The filet was served in a frying pan. Not my first choice of serving vessel. The filet and its accompanying potatoes bacon and sauce reduction were outstanding. The special of the evening was a mushroom tortellini in a cream sauce with pan seared scallops. The scallops here are always outstanding. The house made tortellini was a little undercooked for my taste. Desert is a course you do not want to skip. The house made ice cream is great. The cream brûlée is always perfect. read more
