Well, seems final. The place is not only "closed temporarily," but all the stuff is removed from inside and a "FOR LEASE" sign is up. They had a reopening date listed on Yelp, but no longer. Late post but had to share my visit. This is an old school no frills goof old Fried fish n chips place. You walk in to the smell of deliciously fried food hit you in the face. A little like old oil, but fish was soft and flakey fresh. Service was ok, nothing charming from a small mom n pops. Place is very dated but I assume thats what gives it charm? Nice place. They serve Alaskan Pollack no Swai served here which is a great thing. They have fried fish, clams and shrimp. They also have 4 monks malt vinegar used on the fish when you get your order, it's less acidic with a more malt flavor and it's beautiful on the fish. I got the combo plate and my husband got the 4 piece fish with chips. It was fresh hot and crispy and very delicious. All the sauces are handmade along with the coleslaw. This place is out of a different time and it serves fried fish which almost never seen anywhere. This store has been here since 1969 and this owner has been here since the 90's so 30 plus years. This used to be called "H. Salt Fish and Chips," but it has changed its business name to simply "Fish & Chips." I have tried fish and chips in many places and none have come close to here, especially when the older gentleman is doing the cooking. When the older man cooks, the fish comes out PERFECTLY. Not too much breading, but a lot of fish, and you can tell he makes sure the oil is always fresh. Also, the fries come out perfect, too. Don't forget to ask for malted vinegar and tartar sauce. I also appreciate how they make a lot of effort to keep everything clean and sanitized. So while the decor is very 1970s to 1980s, everything is well-maintained and clean, which gives this place an interesting throwback vibe (arcade game included). My grandpa, a retired Army general--and recipient of a U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor, in 2018, for WWII intelligence operations--who lived up until age 97, loved fish & chips from here. The handwritten " cash only" sign in the window is a bit of a turn off aa is the poor ventilation ( this visit was in August) so just know you will leave smelling of old frying grease. And that was the main problem with the food- the food was cooked at to lie of a temperature in oil that needed to be changed . Cooking food at too low of a temperature means greasy rather than crispy food. Cooking food in old oil at too low if a temperature produces soggy and nasty tasting food.
