I went to this venue in late September to see one of my favorite music artists, Elbow. For those unaware, they are a British band from Manchester that's been around since the late 90s, and they're unfortunately more popular in Europe. The songs range from simple ballads and sadder tracks to louder ones, with many featuring a strong orchestral mix, all backed by Guy Garvey's lyrics, which range from soft to booming. In other words, take the old Coldplay (Rush of Blood to the Head period or so) music, make the vocals less falsetto, and add a few more classical instruments, and you have these guys. The opening act that night was Why Bonnie, a soft-spoken artist with a pretty voice who was doing songs entirely on a single guitar, apparently because the rest of the members were sick or something. This led to many of the songs sounding somewhat similar, though I did like a bunch of them. Anyway, outside of the artists, the venue was a bit dark but nice. The main thing to always worry about at venues is the acoustics, and they were fantastic here. There was plenty of room (or, I guess, you could say Elbow room in this case) with good views from the main area and some space above the stage. The drinks were overpriced, but hey, it's an NYC venue in Williamsburg to boot. The staff were friendly, and it was easy enough to get inside. It's not my favorite venue I've been to, but it worked perfectly for an artist like this. I would recommend them.

Decent sound, solid setup (I only see things bottleneck really by the bathroom/coat check) and brings good artists. My husband and I managed to get a solid spot upstairs, but even when we were downstairs it was fairly easy to find a good spot too. In my humble opinion, the talent that comes out to perform at this venue are some of the bet musicians in all of New York. The crowd is welcoming, supportive and really open-minded. From poetry and comedy to punk music, rap, indie, rock and country.. the range of artistry here has no bounds. The theme last night was to dress as your favorite musician and perform their covers. I went as Post Malone and really enjoyed the crowds reaction to my set. Colleen, one of the hosts is always so friendly and welcoming. She even performs herself! Mike, the sound guy extraordinaire, works wonders from behind the sound booth. He's always adjusting levels on the fly and helping each performer sound their very best. And can you believe it... this open mic is free! Just be sure to bring some cash to drop in their magical tip bucket, which helps all wishes come true from the tipper.

I found the sound system to be standard, not standout good or bad. I liked the 360 stage and enjoyed the side closer to the VIP section. However- the venue is only so big, so it was pretty crowded. The restroom line was pretty long but moved very quickly when I went. I personally don't love the club scene versus a more concert vibe for venues - this is much more of a club scene in my opinion. There were a lot of drunk people unaware of their personal space and running into people constantly, one dude in particular falling into multiple groups multiple times. There wasn't much room to dance until people started leaving after 2:30AM in the GA section. Would I return ? Yes - for artists I love.

It should not be a surprise, but it's rather huge. My sister and I already had tickets, and all we had to do was show our IDs, get our tickets scan, and we were able to go right in. From the entrance, there are no signs that indicate where the stage is, so you have to walk around a bit, but it's not difficult. The bowling lanes are straight ahead and there's a long bar. They have some cool looking cocktails, and the one that really caught my attention was a peanut butter espresso martini. For the longest, because I was afraid of how much it would be (it actually wasn't too bad), I resisted the urge, but after the concert, I got one and it was delicious, even though it was not jazzed up and looking fancy like a typical espresso martini. They put it in a plastic cup and that was pretty much it haha XD. Anyways, the concert was a blast, and it's awesome that we could literally stand right in front of the stage, no barriers or security with a gap. It was an awesome crowd, and even the some of the artists came into the crowd. Even though it's not the smallest space, that made it feel more intimate and it was a fun experience. The sound was amazing all around too. I haven't been to many concert venues in NYC, but I have no complaints about this one really, though the drink's presentation was a bit of a letdown for me. Most events seem to be under $20, and you can purchase tickets on their website. It's set up so there are a couple of tables around a stage; if you're a small party, you could share a table with other folks. I suggest going when the doors open so you can pick out your preferred seat. The staff are super kind and cool. They do sell food and drinks which you can consume during the performances, but there are also a zillion restaurants nearby too. I've seen a comedy show and a movie screening and had a blast at both. Excited to check out more Q.E.D. events this year!
