I have worked in every room at Euphoria since the 80's I think. Having moved away from NYC 8 years…read moreago, I had no chance to rehearse there again. But I clearly remember that the best gear, cleanest rooms, nicest staff and best SOUNDING rooms live there. So I was pretty psyched when I was asked to participate in a rather special band hit with some NYC top cats. And of course, they ONLY rehearse at Euphoria...so that is where we found ourselves a few days ago. It was fantastic to see David again; great human...and he knows the deal. Also a drummer and photographer. The walls are lined with his portraits of about every great player in NYC over the last decades. You name it, they work there. And so it was also great to again realize that there is just no other place on the level of this studio. Anywhere in NYC...period. The gear was top of the line - in fact beyond tops...and in perfect shape. I left NYC the following day - and already I am missing having access to this great set of rooms. Go anywhere else and be let down. It is the best of the best. Consistent - and never better.

I manage events remotely from the West Coast, and I was in dire need for a last minute drumkit rental. To make matters tougher, the drummer for the event was traveling so I couldn't get the exact specs needed. Here's what the team did for me: 1. Helped me pick the PERFECT drum kit for our jazz set simply based on previous videos/pictures of my drummer's performances. 2. Accommodated an earlier pickup on the day of to help us do sound check in time. 3. Accommodated a later drop-off because of logistical issues on our end. 4. Lastly, despite being in need, they didn't scalp me. They worked with me, and offered a reasonable price. I work with a lot of studios + venues, and the professionalism and hospitality of this team is undeniably S-tier. If you're an event promoter, an artist, or a band manager, I can't offer a higher recommendation for Red Note. I checked out Yelp to see what studios were near me during a recent Brooklyn trip, and Red Note had excellent reviews (and more importantly availability on short notice). If you are looking for a music expert/audiophile review, you can skip this review now given my lack of technical knowledge. However, I can say that it was super easy to book a room by the hour, and the person checking me in once I arrived was friendly and helpful. The digital keyboard that I used worked well, and while it took me some time to figure out the audio setup, I ultimately had no trouble using the space on the two days I went. I would return to this studio without hesitation whenever I'm in Brooklyn or the NYC area.

I've spent the past 3 years in a north Williamsburg rehearsal room that could easily be mistaken…read morefor a closet. Moving from that location to Savaria Studios 2.0 has been life-changing, if you allow me to get just a little hyperbolic. I'm a drummer. My kind needs space to practice. I had a 4.5" by 4.5" room in which to practice in my previous location. My drums - not even a full set - touched two of the walls and my seat touched the third. Now I have an 8" by 14" room I share with a friend. I can walk around my set, now with all my toms and cymbals mounted. That means I can also tune my drums. I'm a little bummed (sorry, Jeff) that I have to split the time in the spot instead of just having it all to myself 24/7, but that's the nature and the business of rehearsal rooms in NYC. I accept this. What's important is that I have space - essentially double the space but half the time - for only about $70 more than I was paying for my closet. Beyond the size and price, one of the draws to Savaria is the location in the old Pfizer building. It's hard not to feel like you're in on something. So many New Yorkers, so overwhelmed by each other and each other's access to every private space they claim, seek this uniqueness, this privacy, this frontier, in their quiet speakeasies and undisclosed location parties. Years from now the Pfizer building will be a different place. The neighborhood will develop around it. For now it feels good to know I'll be able to gloat in 5 to 10 years about the way things were here and how I was there when it happened. My only complaint about the space is sound leaking in through the walls and air vents. The bands on my left and right play so loud I can't even hear my own drums over them at times. This is partly because the space is constructed into an old office in the Finance Department of Pfizer Inc. It wasn't meant for anything louder than pencil pushing. The other reason is in the soundproofing, which seems to be merely carpet padding adhered to the walls. Tamas, the owner promised this would improved in time. I try to remind myself that Savaria, even in incarnation 2.0, is a startup, like the other tenants in the building. After being wiped out in Gowanus by Sandy last year, Tamas started all over again here. I imagine the experience here has been a bit life-changing for him as well. I recognize getting everything like the soundproofing in order may take some time. I'll be patient.

There's a nice waiting area by the front desk and the bathrooms are clean and comfortable. The midtown location is a great central meeting spot, especially when you have cast members flung across all boroughs. Pricing is extremely reasonable compared to similar studios in the area. Also, there was another rehearsal going on next door to ours, and we couldn't hear each other at all. Sunlight feels very safe in terms of Covid-19 guidelines: right now everyone is required to wear a mask in public spaces, and they check vaccine verification at the front desk. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a space to hold a rehearsal or class.

I've been at studios that have great equipment and boasts top notch production. What good is the equipment with all these plug-ins, amps, software, etc..if the engineer can't bring your sounds the way you envision? It's like that feeling I get seeing people who can't drive in a nice luxury/expensive car. Well, I hope you got the analogy, but basically what I'm saying is that the Brewery is official. One of the few spots that can give you something to look forward to listening to when you get home (granted you finish your session before leaving). Some studios you go to simple record your vocals and call it a day. Others don't make you feel comfortable recording. But the Brewery isn't either of them. The area isn't crazy like Manhattan, and the place itself is very well put together. They offer beverages, and boast a nice iso-booth to record. Trying to book a session might get hectic, but nevertheless, its one of the few studio gems that Brooklyn has to offer. The price is kind of expensive, but I never complain if the service matches it. Plus, they have off-peak rates that you can definitely take advantage of. I plan to make this one of my go-to places for all my music endeavors. Great that you can book + pay online too.
