I drive a long way to come here to get my horse's Triple Crown 30% Ration Balancer recommended by my vet. Often places that are Triple Crown dealers don't have it and can't be bothered to special order it. The parking is a little bit wonky if there is a big hay truck making a delivery - ha! - but I've always found the staff in the store to be friendly. They bring your purchases right out to your vehicle even if you park out on the street. I haven't tried the hay yet because I haven't quite figured out if I want to try to get my trailer in and out of there, but for now I'm thrilled to have a place to get my grain. Although it is wonderful to have a feed store in Redmond again. I am unsure how long this one will survive. You have to wonder about a business that always has a help wanted sign out front. My spouse worked here for a short time, we feel blessed for the paycheck, but the owner is a complete basket case. On a positive note the owner does have a great staff member that worked many years at a feed store in Woodinville that always makes sure that the feed products are quality. The owner also brings in beautiful hay almost on a daily basis. read more

I have been a loyal customer since First Fruits opened in 2014, spending thousands over those years for feed, bedding and supplies for my horse and chickens. Sadly, I will no longer shop there nor will I recommend this establishment to others. I stopped in to return a very new Grundens raincoat I had bought three months ago and worn half a dozen times that proved defective as it was soaking wet after being in the rain for 30 minutes. I would not expect this at all from such a high quality brand as Grundens. They 100% guarantee their products for the life of their garments, so clearly this coat was defective and I thought it would be simple to return or exchange it. What retailer of repute would refuse to take back a defective product? What retailer would actually try to fight with a customer, belittle them, tell them they are not Nordstrom? What retailer would say the item was not defective and blame the customer? Well, Tim, the owner of First Fruits did all that and more. I quote him here, "I'm not going to take the hit on a return!", "Grundens will not take it back." His unprofessional and confrontation demeanor was not pleasant. I suggested he call Grundens and let me talk to them, but he called his supplier instead and refused to let me speak to the person saying he didn't want to talk to me. He turned his back on me and was so rude that I left with the coat and called Grundens myself. Grundens absolutely does stand behind their products and will take back and repair or replace all defective clothing. I shipped it back to them and already have a new raincoat because Tim did in fact sell me a defective product as confirmed by Grundens. Basically Tim Matt refused to treat me to basic respect and professional, honest, customer service, which would have cost him nothing had he done the right thing and offered to ship it back to Grundens for a replacement. The only saving grace of this establishment is a kind man who works there that used to work at another feed store that closed. I think his name is Joe and he is tall with light hair. If you shop here I suggest only working with him. Tim Matt does *not* care about his customers despite him saying he does. Actions prove louder than words. read more

I am so glad to have a livestock supply store in Redmond, WA for chicken feed and shavings. I used to drive to Issaquah Grange, but now that Firstfruits has pretty much everything I need for chickens like starter feed, layer feed, fine and medium white pine shavings I go there on my way home from work. I still get my oyster shell at the Grange when I am down that way because it is bulk and really inexpensive. Firstfruits Feed is a little more expensive but it would cost me way more in time and gas to make up the cost difference from the Grange. read more

Their hay prices aren't bad by the bale compared to other feed stores. The eastern Washington timothy hay quality is usually great. I've only had one bad batch from them. The downside to this store is that it's missing a lot of other things. You want the quick and easy local farm store to have a good selection so that rather than ordering online you can just stop in and get the part/tool same day. They never have the hot fence parts I need. I only go there now to buy grain and cat food because of that. I have to drive 10 minutes farther to another feed store because I know they'll always have the part or tool I need. Also one day I came in early to buy a couple bales of hay and had to wait for 25 minutes while some guy talked to the only worker inside about chickens. I don't think the guy even bought anything. If I had known it would be 25 minutes I would have driven to their competitor. Also, almost every time I've asked employees for advice about products they don't know much. Very unprofessional. read more

If you are desperate and don't want to drive to a real feed store and want to pay 20% over retail for inferior products, this is your place. First, do NOT ask for any advice. These people, and I mean every employee, know NOTHING about farm animal nutrition. If they are out of what you want, they try to sell you just about anything on their shelves telling you it is fine for your animals. Let me give you an example, I went in for livestock feed (all purpose) and they were out as they were the last time I went in. The owner brought me sheep chow for lactating sheep and told me it would be fine for my goats and I explained to him then that the calcium was too high and would make my neutered goats sick with kidney stones. He then tried to sell me "goat hay." First of all, there is no such thing as "goat hay," second this hay was so brown and nasty that I would only use it as bedding. Goats need good nutritionally sound green hay just like any other animal. Two days later, I sent my son in to pick up the food they were out of the first time and a different employee gave my son food for "lactating dairy cows" saying it would be good for my goats, because it said "if could be used for dairy goats " in the fine print on the bag. He did not ask my son if we had dairy goats and assumed that all goats were goats and did not ask if they were female and nursing. My son brought this home and fortunately told be about the change before he fed this to our male, neutered goats. This would have given them kidney stones and could have killed them. I called and let them know that they had no business giving uniformed nutritional advice to customers. The employee did not know what "lactating" meant and was unaware that there were different kinds of goats in the world with different nutritional needs. He said that it said "goat" on the label and that was good enough for him. The owner was also present and didn't seem to know the difference either. I wouldn't bother to write all of this except that this unsolicited, horrible advice seems to be given to customers frequently. Just today, one of our employees stopped by there for goat chow that they were out of and he tried to sell his nasty "goat hay" to her. I am a licensed wildlife educator, animal sciences instructor, and farm owner. These people have NO business giving any advice to anyone. If you go in, stick to what is on your list and don't let them potentially harm your animals by selling you something that might make your animals sick. There are other farm stores within a short drive of them. GO THERE. At least you might find someone who knows something about your animals and if they don't they won't give you harmful advice and bad products. read more

I really like First Fruits - I'm glad to have a place that's closer by to get what we need for our dog, chickens and horses. They are increasing the number of items they carry (so 4 stars for now), and we are going to start buying our monthly ton of hay from them -- it is great to be able to go by and first check what kind looks best for our horses needs. Also, the owner (I think it was him) was really helpful when I went in and asked about hay and hay availability. read more
