This is one of my go to Chinese restaurants for take out. They have an extensive menu and everything always tastes fresh. We usually order one of the combination plates as it comes with the entree, fried rice, and either crab ragoon or an egg roll. My wife loves their won ton soup so that's always a must. I've been getting Chinese from this place for nearly 20yrs. It's always been affordable and pretty tasty compared to the other options in the O'Fallon area and the staff is usually kind, but the last time we went it wasn't the same quality as we've come to known. We ordered the following: steamed dumplings, hot and sour soup, general tso's all white meat chicken, and the black pepper beef combination plate with light spice, no onion and crab rangoon. The positives were: speedy service as always, affordable prices, friendly service and the dumplings and soup were both good. Their hot and sour soup always has more spice than the local competition, but I know that already so I'm prepared, but others may not be. The negatives were: we paid extra for all white meat, but there was still dark meat and there were several dried out chewy pieces with a lot of excess breading. The crab rangoon was solid cream cheese with no crab whatsoever, but the biggest disappointment was the black pepper beef combination plate. We get the black pepper beef often and we know it's spicy so we always say little to no spice and this time it came with onions which we didn't want and the container was almost half full of onions, but the spice was INSANE. We got it to go and live about 8 miles away so driving back that late at night wasn't logical, but if I had been there and discovered the mistake I would've made them remake it. Once home, I picked out the onions but there was nothing I could do to tone down the spice. It was inedible due to the heat. I can't even imagine how spicy it would've been if I hadn't of asked for little spice. I checked the receipt and it said "little spice" so it was definitely ordered right just not made correctly. Hopefully just a one time issue, but putting it out there as a caution to others since a lot of people can't handle things that are too spicy. The spice was definitely from the overage of pepper. You could see it all over the beef. I even tried to scrape it off, but the flavor was already cooked into the entree. Hoping one of our go to places hasn't changed up one of our favorite dishes and it's just a one time fluke. Otherwise, we've generally had a good experience there. read more

I first stumbled upon First Wok last year, when I was in the neighborhood getting boba at Sunright. What a gem this place is! Portions are large and the price is very reasonable. The staff is very friendly, and the food comes out hot and fresh. I especially like the house fried rice, which comes with shrimp, bbq pork, and veggies (it might have other meat in it too, but I ate it too quickly to remember!). The lunch special is a great deal too-- I picked the wonton soup to go with my curry chicken and it had three nicely sized wontons in the soup. The restaurant itself is not very large and mostly self service with napkins, sauces, and utensils on the side. They are very quick to bring your food out to you as well. Thought I'd give this place another try. Ordered online for 5:45. Showed up 15 minutes early and it was already done just sitting there. Mooshoo pork was wet and swimming in liquid. No flavor and just tasted like soggy vegetables. Worst thing is the pancake wraps were covered in spots of green mold. Disgusting, had eaten most of one before I noticed the rest were moldy. The convenience of having them close to home is great. Occasionally we will eat in, but most times we order to go. The food is hot and ready before I can get there! I will sometimes walk in to order then go next door to Schnucks to pick up something and hurry back to get the order. My wife enjoys the egg drop soup and I like the hot braised pork. Over the last several years we have tried many of the dishes here and found them all good. A tip for anyone is go to Schnucks first because there is almost always a coupon on the receipt for for an order of crab Rangoon. read more

The food was not good. My daughter and I came here for the first (and last) time for lunch on a Wednesday. The cashier was very nice. We ordered 2 lunch specials. Orange Chicken w/fried rice & Hot & Sour Soup; Sesame Chicken w/fried rice & crab rangoon. We also ordered Singapore Mei Fun to see if it's good. Both the Orange Chicken and Sesame Chicken were hard as rocklets. terrible! The flavor of the Orange chicken was very orange flavored and I liked the flavor, although my daughter didn't. The Sesame Chicken was bland. Biggest issue was not being able to chew, due to hardness. The fried rice was tasteless. One of the 2 crab Rangoon had oil pooled inside of it and was dripping oil. The 2nd was ok. The Hot & Sour soup cane in a generous portion. The taste didn't even resemble h&s soup. There was no hot. No sour. It tasted like nothing more than mushrooms. The Singapore Mei Fun was nasty. Tasted only like the over abundance of spicey spice used and it wasn't a good flavor. I'm sad to say we ate very little of the food and neither of us wanted to take leftovers home, although i did to feed to my husband which will eat anything. He ate it, but even he didn't like it and had trouble chewing the over cooked meats. He too thought the Mei Fun was nasty. It was almost as if they used half the bottle of spices in one order. So I went here for the first time last evening, Mandarin Garden in st Charles was closed and the family wanted Chinese. Now that said, I was greeted warmly, but the food!!! I guess I ordered Kung Pao carrots and Mongolian onions, because that's what I got, further I looked up on their wall and saw dumplings (a literal picture). Update: I decided to try this place again, but this time was disappointed in a completely new way. As I was waiting for my carry-out order, I spotted food from the back sitting in the restaurant dinning area. I have no idea what they were going to do with it, but it sat out there for more than thirty minutes. If it was bad, why didn't they just throw it away. Or if they planned on using it, what was it doing sitting on a table in the middle of the dining area? Either way, I can't imagine that this practice is something the Missouri Food Safety/Health Board would approve. Previous Review: When I moved to this neighborhood and first starting ordering food here, I was quite happy with everything. But as time goes on, I've become slowly more and more disappointed with certain dishes. Most recently, the curry dishes. Just two years ago, any of they curry dishes (beef, chicken, or shrimp) were full of the meat portion. But over time, less and less meat is included. The beef version may only have three to five pieces, the same with chicken. And you have to dig and hunt for shrimp if you order that. Instead, it looks they've used onion to fill the void. Each time I've ordered recently, the dish seems like an entire large onion has been sliced into it, with a sprinkling of the other ingredients. Delivery time was solid. Other than that it was far from outstanding. General Tso's looked like orange chicken. The sauce was elastic enough to drip from fork to container for a solid 2 inches. Crab Rangoon had good taste but was super greasy. The chicken in the generals had too much batter. Fried rice was okay but not much flavor, just bland without enough pork/onion/other ingredients. I feel that I have to post after reading so many mixed reviews. We have eaten here many times (usually carry-out) and have never been disappointed. The food is always tasty, hot and fresh. Some of our favorites are the wontons/dumplings (dipping sauce is amazing), broccoli with garlic sauce, General Tso's chicken and Szechuan chicken. My youngest loves their honey chicken. Our Chinese exchange student has liked every dish he's tried here and any leftovers are gone by the next day:) The staff is friendly and helpful and they work hard to get the order ready quickly and accurately. I finally convinced my husband to try this gem since his favorite Chinese buffet was closed right now due to quarantine. He always wants a buffet because of variety. Now he realizes quality is so much more Important! He ordered the chicken in black bean sauce and I ordered my go to- black pepper chicken. First off the quantities are big- for us it is 2 meals which makes it a tremendous value for the money. I can't make 2 meals for us for this price- and if you watch your mail, coupons come all the time. The meat in the black pepper chicken was tender and flavorful and the sauce was outstanding! It also has thinly sliced onions and green peppers in it. The onions were delicious- not strong and overpowering cheap yellow onions. These actually complimented the meal. I also switched to the brown rice instead of white to keep the carbs down somewhat, it was very good and the container was stuffed. The chicken with black bean sauce had an abundance of freshly cooked broccoli in it: not limply faded pieces but fresh, bright green pieces that has a decent crunch. The sauce was thick and coated everything perfectly and has a good kick to it. You can adjust the heat when you place the order. We also ordered Crab Rangoon. It comes as a 4 piece. They were huge and stuff fully with a fresh cream cheese/ seafood mix. The shell was crunchy and cooked perfectly. You could make a meal off the Rangoon. I've ordered the egg rolls previously and they are delicious as well. Large and stuffed with fresh vegetables, again perfectly cooked! Also the restaurant itself is very clean inside- obviously no one was dining in right now, but it has always been spotless and when I have dined in the past at a table. As my husband ate, he kept saying he could not believe how good the food was and even said it was the best he ever had before! Yay! The food here is super oily. The fried rice with pork had an open container / fridge flavor. You get a large amount of of food but the flavors are pretty much all the same. The crab Rangoon has fairly good flavor, but my wife says they taste a bit garlicky. They definitely do not use fresh ingredients here. After a few hours after eating here I felt nauseated . Went to pickup an order and no one in the back that is cooking are wearing masks. There's about 15 employees all cooking and I was so grossed out. Front desk attendants wearing masks under chins. To the some uneducated people posting bad reviews about food sitting in the dining room, that food isn't made for any customers and it is made by the chefs for them to eat whenever they have time to do so. Lay off before even looking at the menu, and use some common sense before saying "the fda would most certainly not approve of this." It's embarrassing and clearly you're wanting to start drama instead of doing basic research or asking an employee why it's there. Shaking my head. First wok has always been amazing for me, btw.
