I was excited to try out this new place and walked in with an optimistic mindset. My man and I walked in and immediately noticed the place was cold. It's already 35 degrees outside so we were expecting to enter into a welcoming environment and warm drinks. We noticed the other customers were eating with jackets and hats on. Some of them were shivering as well. We asked the hostess to turn up the heat, but her excuse for not doing so was because OSHA laws require the temperature to be at that setting because of Covid to "stop the spread". I immediately sensed that was false because I am OSHA certified and there are no regulations associating COVID and the temperature of the restaurant. I felt like she did not want to help us and she used Covid as an excuse. In addition, my man asked for the featured Cinnamon cereal milk drink that is advertised in the front of the restaurant on the window, and our server just bluntly responded to him "oh we don't have that one". His response and entire vibe was very dry, and he did not make feel good. He wasn't very helpful to recommend anything else, and we were turned off by the negativity. Also, as a restaurant it looks bad if you don't have a featured item. My man and I were so turned off by the way we were treated that we ended up leaving without trying the food :( Overall the company needs to improve their customer service skills because it matters. read more

Right off the bat, I absolutely love the patio at this location! In order for me to have some type of normalcy during this pandemic, I ALWAYS try to find restaurants with outdoor seating. The patio here is spacious, cozy, fully covered, and the quality of patio furniture is top notch! Next, we try to eat here for breakfast at least once or twice a month. Four out of five visits the wait staff and the hostesses were all excellent. The food is always fresh and yummy! One issue I have with First Watch is their limited times of featured dishes. One in particular, is the braised short rib omelette I had while having breakfast with a friend. I had it once and it was everything I had hoped for. Seriously! It was gobsmacking scrumdiddlyumtious! Then, I went back with my Bae a few weeks later as I had been dreaming about this dish. Low and behold, to my dismay it was no longer offered. My heart hit the floor from disappointment. So, I wish the company would do some type of quality assurance and improvement survey in seeking guests feedback before yanking a home run dish away. As for their consistent juice bar offerings, they are always on point and I sometimes struggle with choosing the juices or their tasty coffee. By the way, the coffee is always fresh, but the creamer is nothing to write home about as they don't offer any flavored creamers.Bummer! Moving right along now. My last visit was one of the best yet! We arrived on a Sunday morning around 8:30 am and we had the entire patio to ourselves! Our waitress was the most attentive server we have ever had here and unfortunately her name has slipped my memory. She was fairly new to the company, around 5 feet tall, African-American, and around 19 years to 21 old. She was sweet as pie and professional! Well, I ordered the shrimp and grits with some cheddar cheese,but I needed just a tad bit more seasoning and requested some Cajun seasoning. Our waitress couldn't find any and went and got the cook for me. He was so apologetic for not having any Cajun seasoning in the building, but offered me a bottle of hot sauce. Guess what? That hot sauce sealed the deal in the dish! Although I was honestly surprised that this dish was made without ANY Cajun seasoning! Go figure! Nonetheless,I didn't leave a single morsel on my plate. I will definitely be back just for this dish and I am hoping to the highest levels in Utopia for the dish to still be on the menu. Oh yeah, my date had the lemon ricotta pancakes and enjoyed them just as much as I enjoyed the shrimp and grits. Well, I am pretty sure you don't have to wonder if I'll return here. I love First Watch but this one is not up to par. Spent 25 minutes just waiting to get put on the waitlist. They had people waiting who hadn't checked in and were seating people out of order . The front staff was totally overwhelmed which is usually a result of poor management. I finally left, never getting on the list. So the did the couple in front of us. Spend the extra 10 minutes and drive to Richmond. You'll get to eat faster anyway. read more

My dad and our family/friends go to this First Watch location a few Saturdays of the month for breakfast together. Ever since my mom passed away last year, we have been intentional about prioritizing time around loved ones - and Saturday morning breakfasts are a big part of that. I can't think of a better place for us to have our almost weekly Saturday breakfasts. Debra is one of the waitresses at First Watch, and she has been nothing but a pure ray of sunshine in my dad's life, treating him like she would her own father. This was my first time trying this place out. I ordered the trifecta which came with two eggs, two bacon strips, and the waffle. The food was very good. The waffle was great. The reason for three stars is due to the portion size simply being too small. Add another egg and another strip of bacon and the rating would be much higher. Well when the place opened it was great and service was great. Now many months later, wow has it gone down. Service the last 2 times on Sunday has been awful. First time we waited at the bar for over an hour and never got our food, so we left. this past Sunday we thought we would try it again. MISTAKE. Service sucked and bar attendee was waiting our table which was close by. Took over 1 hour to get 2 orders of avacado toast with side of bacon. Seriously, we won't be back. This place and their food is excellent! Like so much so that we called the manager, Naomi, to complement her and the staff on how good it was. We got the eggs Benedict classic, eggs Benedict BLT, and biscuits and gravy. It's always a crap shoot that the eggs are going to be cooked right when taking eggs Benedict to go and First Watch nailed it. The biscuits were big and fluffy and the gravy was excellent texture and flavor. As I'm writing this, I'm still shocked at how good this takeout order was. We will most certainly be visiting this place again and we're happy to have them in the neighborhood. read more

This morning I placed an order for 3 meals, one of which was for the classic Eggs Benedict. Unfortunately my husband didn't check the order until he got home and found that the Classic Benedict was left out, although it was paid for. When I called the restaurant, they stated that it was there and that I could pick it up. It had been about 50 minutes from the time the order was placed until the 2nd call. I mentioned that I did not want a cold meal. Danette assured me that they would remake it and it would be ready when I got there. When I got back to the restaurant, I checked the bag, the order was correct, I also felt the container to ensure it was hot, which it was. Unfortunately when I got home, instead of nice poached eggs, I was so disappointed to find something more like hard boiled eggs. Either Danette lied and they just heated it with a microwave, or someone does not know how to poach eggs. Very disappointing when all you want is a nice runny, poached eggs benedict. Absolutely LOVE this restaurant!! Both outdoor and indoor seating is Surrounded by a great ambience of modern "farm" Decor and open airy spaces. Service has been excellent both times. My only "gripe " Is that this restaurant requires you to take your bill to the register to pay out before you leave. Having worked in many restaurants for many years, I understand managers choosing different protocols for how to approach things like this. However both times I've visited there has been an extension of time when you're both waiting to be seated and at the end waiting to pay out. This is because the line backs up mixed with paying customers who want to leave and customers who entered and want to be sat. Perhaps if they had two workers at the stand one specifically to deal with the register and one to seat new guests things could flow faster? Or have servers run payments? :) Bathrooms are neat & tidy and for the most part Covid procedures are followed. I say most because I've seen a few servers walk around with their mask not covering their nose when talking to a table. Food is delicious. Everything is very fresh. My one-year-old loves eating here. First, let me say the staff was excellent and very professional and the restaurant was very clean and you saw the staff sanitizing immediately after patrons departed. On to the food!
