I would give this place 2 stars on the service, the guy we had and I can't not remember his name to save my life never checked on us after giving us our food. He rude regardless when we first sat down but I noticed him being nice and smiley to other tables. My reasonings as to why I think he was shouldn't be posted on yelp. When we first arrived I didn't make reservations because the address was saying a chapel hill address and I did not want to go to that one, but it was about a 30 min wait because of that. The food was pretty tasty although we went without napkins and refills on our water even when the carafe was empty. I went to the First Watch at New Hope Commons for breakfast. My server was Mary and man she was so polite. Our food was fresh and hot, the flavor was amazing. The worst service I have ever had at a first watch. I have been here multiple times and have always had bad service I just go to the one in chapel hill now. The service here is always slow and they always mess up your order. The last time I went I waited for 30 mins and did not even get my drinks and when I asked about it I was told they were making it I didn't know it would take so long to make water. We waited another 10 mins and ended up leaving after that and not even getting food or drinks. read more

We love first watch in general but this is the best location in durham. My husband & I are regulars & enjoy our sunday brunch here. The wait times are fast despite it being packed, the food comes out piping hot & presentation is on point. The new GM Jasper is detail oriented, takes initiative, observes the guest and is out on the floor working side by side with his employees, something that is rare to see these days. You can tell he's passionate about his job which is refreshing in this economy. Our favorite server is Isaiah but all the staff we have experienced is great. Stopped in at lunchtime. No one was working as host/hostess. Waitress was quick to take order but had to wait over forty minutes for a basic meal to arrive at the table. Probably the rudest waiter i've ever had, middle-of-the-road food couldnt save the poor service. Decided to go somewhere new on saturday morning. Coming into the restaurant we were received with a mild greeting and seated. Our waiter arrived and asked what we'd like to drink. No welcome, no greeting, if there were specials we didnt hear about them, he did not even give his name. Because i dont have his name I can only say that he was working 7/6/19 at some point between 12 and 2 pm, was tall, overweight, slicked back short black curly hair, and he had a face like he didnt want to be there. he was waiting tables in the booth area near the windows away from the front door. We ordered our drinks, hot cocoa for them and I order sweet tea. He came back a few minutes later and wordlessly dropped them on the table, the water glasses were on the table, they remained unfilled. I was with my wife, mother-in-law and her aunt, english is not their first language and they are very picky eaters. They spent about 5 minutes reading the menu before he came by and asked what we were ordering.. I look over and my mother in law is literally in the process of squinting at the menu when he asks us this.. My wife is still reading a menu and her aunt still has one in her face as well.. no one had a menu on the table, no one was staring around idly, no one flagged him down, in no way shape or form was there a cue for him to ask us our order.. dude didnt even ask if we needed more time or had questions.. because theyre foreign theyre often uncomfortable ordering food, my wife hurries both of them through the menu while the waiter essentially stands there with an irritated demeanor and toe-taps. he takes the order and hes gone. I couldnt follow his interactions with the other tables but they didnt look like they were any better. what makes it worse is he didnt seem all that busy or rushed, while that doesnt excuse his behavior, it would have at least made it understandable. our drinks ran out and shortly after, our food arrived and it was pushed onto our table. if there was a utensil, cup, hand, cell phone, purse, whatever on the table, it was shoved out of the way by a plate.. at this point it was comical how much this dude did not give a damn. the plates were shoved onto the table and he was gone. The hot cocoa cups were empty, the water glasses still werent filled, and my tea was just ice. No drink refills, no mid-meal check up. He came by, asked if we would be splitting our check and that was the last of him. oh yeah, i forgot about the food.. Overall the food was "okay" but completely forgettable.. hell, ill only remember this place cause the waiter was a terrible host.. read more

I took my grandson to first watch durham, our first time going there.We were seated promptly and sat at the table for 15 to 20 minutes with no contact from anybody although several people seated after us , were were waited on. We decided to leave, my way out I explained to the guy at the register what happened and why we were leaving he said ok. when I got home I called to speak to a manager, I heard the person on the line tell the manager she had someone on the phone that wanted to speak to her.i held on for 10 minute no-one ever pick up the phone.So now I am writing this review.If were possible to zero stars I would because that is the service we received read more

While visiting Durham we looked for a someplace for brunch. We just happen to stumble upon First Watch. Upon entry the decor and ambiance makes you feel your in an upscale restaurant with all the bells and whistles but not the high prices. Brunch was about $30 for two for what we had. The service was fast, the food selections all looked good and tasted great (fresh ingredients)the coffee was amazing (pumpkin spice)! I'd definitely recommend First Watch! The only reason I didn't give a five star is because it was freezing in the restaurant. read more

I went on Sunday Sept 30 the hostess ask me if I would be fine eating on the patio. I said yes, let me tell my family they were parked right outside the door she said ok I'll get it setup for you. By the time (15sec) we got back she had given our table away. She didn't have the common courtesy to come out to the patio and let me know what happened. I had to go back inside where she informed me (sorry we gave your table away). I didn't mine waiting for a table inside but she offered me outside seating. I will NEVER patronize any first watch in the future. Customer service was awful. They need to hire an experience host. She lacked etiquette and customer service training. I'm not blaming her she just needed coaching. Don't go there if you are hungry go if you just want to sit and wait but watch so they don't give your table away. read more

Worst service I've had in a while. We sat down got our drinks and then immediately our waiter asked if we were ready. We'd been here a minute. I told him no and two minutes later he was back. With such an extensive menu we still were not ready. My frown ordered biscuits and gravy with an over medium egg. I had the works omler. We got our food and then never saw the waiter again until we got the check. My friends egg was overcooked and my food was just lukewarm. We had to ask the manager for a refill on tea. There was no sugar for my coffee and I had to ask another server for more. If I had a penny I would have left it for the waiter as a tip. Actually pretty decent as a breakfast spot, one of the few places for a more traditional non-diner breakfast/brunch in Durham. Eggs Benedict well done and eggs properly poached, pancakes had good flavor, potatoes well seasoned and tasty. Minus one star bc the waitress was clearly impatient and wanting us to leave, cleared most of our plates immediately and then kept trying to take my 4yo's plate though she was clearly still eating. I get it, they were busy on a weekend, but service in a service industry should still take priority. FIRST WATCH warning...Not a welcoming place! Visited early Sunday morning. The first person you meet upon entering sets the tone for the experience. The man pictured that was hosting was the least friendliest person you could have at your front door. No greeting. No smile. Grabbed menus and proceeded to walk towards tables, with me assuming I should follow. He layed menus on table and walked away. I noticed that I wasn't only one who received his lackluster approach. He's an equal opportunity snob. My waiter wasn't much better. Gave me wrong info about dishes when asked. Never came back to my table after taking order. I had to stop someone to ask them to send my waiiter over. Never came. All I wanted was more butter. Would have helped the meal. I ordered scrambled eggs medium. I got hard fried as you can see in photo. It came cut up like that and with bacon so hard it was inedible. Not sure if I'll return but I know I will tell all about the terrible service. read more

Besides being an efficient customer centric server, he was instantly engaging and delightful to chat with even though he never stopped working and ensuring he was attentive to everyone he was serving. Come for the million dollar bacon, and well... The bacon's legit I can say that. I recently stopped in for a late Saturday lunch at First Watch and was shocked at how busy it was for around 1:00PM. It didn't take long to be seated. The host was very nice, took our number and we were seated in 10-20 minutes. After looking over the menu, both my wife and I decided on the pancake stack with a side of the million dollar bacon. I went with my preferred blueberry pancakes and she decided to try the carrot cake pancakes. The pancakes were large, fluffy, and generally pretty good. Not the most amazing pancakes I've had, but not the worst. My wife enjoyed her carrot cake pancakes, but thought they could have been more interesting and wish she had gone with something more traditional. Now the million dollar bacon, that was the true hit of the meal. four strips of sweet and savory bacon that were cooked to crackling perfection. It was absolutely delicious. Served with a cracked pepper and maple syrup glaze. I could have eaten two servings of this. The table service was a little lacking. Our server was rather kurt and only checked in a handful of times. It was pretty busy so that could have been a factor, but I was a little underwhelmed by the service. I wasn't blown away by my experience here but i'd be willing to try it again. read more

Ridiculously SLOW!!!! I ordered a to-go order online at 11:37 am, pick scheduled for ASAP, site said that was 13 mins, no problem. Paid for order (1 drink, 1 entree), pickup time stated on confirmation was 11:50am on a Thursday. By 12:20, the order was still not ready- that was an extra 30 mins of waiting!!!!! These were simple menu items with no modifications or add-ons. If the restaurant is unable to handle to-go orders they should not offer the service and screw up people's days. We used to like this location but the service has been terrible. I don't mean the waitstaff is bad - the problem is clearly in the kitchen. As we sat there last Sunday, we should have RUN AWAY as all of the tables around us were complaining about the service. Our food seemed to come out quickly but it was the wrong order. They managed to deliver the wrong food 3x. When it finally came, the homefries were charred and burnt yet undercooked. Pancakes were burnt and then flipped over so the burnt side was down. read more
